Hi!
I'm trying to root from Lollipop using the guide by Unjustified Dev & on the last step where you run the script I get 'DNS server not authoritative'. I've tried running the command prompt as admin & tried different usb ports, the obvious things but its not happening. Can anyone help please?

Sorry. That probably a red herring. The original message I got was after entering the last line & is 'sh' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
I don't know dos at all obviously.
Thanks in advance.
Jas.

I don't see what I'm looking for when I search so here goes. I'm helping out with a bible app that you can download off line versions for. Only in certain ROM's like SR it reboots instead. They want me to capture the log for it when I go to try download but don't know what to use so I can have it show on my computer. When the phone reboots everything is log of course. Can anyone suggest a program? Thanks

I have that but once the phone locks up I can't access it then it goes into reboot which wipes the log clean. Then all I get is the boot up sequence. I'm hoping someone knows of one that I can use via my usb cord or wifi to my computer that way I can hopefully capture it on the pc instead.
Can't remember off the top of my head, but look into adb commands.

I had thought about that but for some reason the adb shell will lock up my computer after a bit. I think it's a Windows Vista problem there.
Now when I first got my Incredible I had something like an SDK viewer? Darn I'm having one of those senior moments.
You're helping beta test too, eh? I'm Justin over there.
I'm not an Android developer, but would the files in /data/tombstone/ help? You can do an adb pull to get the file. With ddms you can browse and download files, but personally I can't get that to work in recovery...

I used easytether last week when my wife was in the hospital. I didn't have to turn off iptables.. In fact I just created a simple .sh so i didn't have to type in any commands..Network manager automatically configured the network also, so I didn't need to run "sudo dhclient easytether0"
I attached the simple script I created..Just open it up and copy and paste your device ID in. Change it to a ".sh" instead of ".txt" Make sure it executionable, just double click and select run in terminal and it should work...sometime i had to run the script more then once.
I juat ran it and it told me to dhclient so I did. It gave me this
Chown: failed to get attributes of '/etc/resolving.conf' : no such file or directory
Then chmod: and same syntax as chown

Huh, it worked great on my wife's netbook running 11.04. Did you turn iptables back on..I didn't have to mess with that to get it working.

I sent you a PM b4 reading this..I don't believe there are any dependencies for this program to work within ubuntu other then that .deb file. My wifes netbook is pretty bareboned...She dislikes it so only used it when she was to uncomfortable to get up.(pregnancy can do that i've heard.) It's not powerful enough for me to do anything with it.
Mmm then idk why it doesn't work....

Maybe try using wired tether 1.4 from Google's dev page. When I'm on a windows PC I use easy tether but when on my Ubuntu 11.04 lap top I use wired tether 1.4. Namely because it works without having to set anything up or download anything.
so i sucessfully rooted my DZ but i have a problem with my computer now after i rooted, i have a fair idea of what caused the problem but dont know how to fix it.
CMD commands dont work on my computer (like ipconfig and ping etc) giving an error that "ip config" isnt a recognized as an internal or external command.
i think the issue is due to changing the "Enviroment Variables > Path" on my computer as it was in the guide i was following to make things easier, i removed the default path and replaced it with what i have now being
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live;C:\PROGRAMS\Other\HTC\SDK\platform-tools;C:\PROGRAMS\Other\HTC\SDK\tools;C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Shared
however i think there may be a command i deleted that i need.
if anyone has any suggestions please post your advice
thanks in advanced Penfold
Add this to it:
%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;
-Nipqer
Ouch, yeah ... what Nipqer said will fix the cmd problem but if there were any other paths set up by other applications you might run into more problems down the line. The guide wasn't stating to replace the paths but to add to them by adding '; c:\new_path\'.
You might just want to roll back with System Restore if there's a very recent one and then readd the adb path properly.

Good Idea with system restore.
Looking at my Path the only other ones neccesary are possibly nvidia drivers.

I'm trying to install Ubuntu and when I press start I can't seem to type in the command box. I get a FATAL: No bootable medium found! System halt. Then there's a VirtualBox information saying the right ctrl key is captured. When I uncapture it I still can't move my arrow. I'm using a laptop. Even downgraded to 3.1.8 and still a problem. Need help, thanks.

Recently factory resetted my surface RT due to certain reasons. I successfully entered testsigning mode before my surface had to be reset. At the moment I have both updates specified in onbekend's thread in the hidden section. I'd assume that if they're hidden they can't be automatically installed, and in addition I have disabled windows update. When running the bcdedit command in windows powershell with administrative privileges, I do get the "command has completed successfully" response, but after a restart I can't find the watermark on the bottom right portion of my desktop.
At this point my only guesses are that with my updating after resetting my surface, there was a recent update that may also be preventing the testsigning mode to work, hidden updates somehow don't prevent them from being installed, or something happened when I reset my tablet that was in testsigning mode at the time.
Through checking some posts in other threads, I can only assume that it has to do with windows update. When running bcdedit.exe, you can clearly see that the load options is /TNSTSIGNING. I've uninstalled numerous other updates blindly, of which of course did not help. All kb308xxx and kb309xxx updates have been uninstalled in case I uninstalled the wrong updates, and I'm still unable to get into test signing mode. I've disabled the windows update service as well, in addition to setting the registry key to disable automatic updates.

I can't tell if I'm using it or not in powershell. I copy and paste the command line directly found in onbekends OP, and I also tried copying it from a Unicode .txt file. What I'm surprised about is how it worked the first time without this much problem or even my own awareness that there was a cedilla n. Also if I recall, you said you successfully got your tablet in test signing mode without the cedilla n.

I did, it got me in, but it didn't run anything. Cedilla N unlocks the execution ability. Without it you just get into test signing mode.

I tried running a power shell script where the command line is saved with Unicode, so I can confirm it has the cedilla n. Still no luck.
I factory reset my tablet (again) and immediately ran the command line in powershell. A straight copy and paste from OnBekendV's OP worked perfectly fine. The cedilla N showed in powershell, and it shows when I run bcdedit.exe. Clearly, there's a windows update that's preventing me from accessing testsigning mode. When I ran all updates available, the testsigning went away, even after removing the two specified updates. I would really appreciate some help or at least some inquiring questions, rather than simply not saying anything. Thanks to Qiangong2 for making sure I'm typing the command line correctly, but at this point we can confirm that's not the issue.

Before the reset, when was the last time you updated 8.1? If you look back, we may be able to find out which update is blocking it.

The last two times I updated my tablet was between a week after the exploit was released, and a couple days ago. There's most likely something in the November patches that prevents users from either copying and pasting special characters in powershell, or something that also works against the user from entering testsigning mode.
Alright, this problem's been solved(A while actually, simply too busy to write a response). Microsoft decided to another kernel security update in November's patch Tuesday, kb3101746 that prevents the jailbreak.
