[Q] Taking Pictures Using Front Camera - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Using the heart rate monitor as the shutter button does not work for me. Is there a setting or something that needs to be set?

I believe the phone has to detect your face first. Try looking directly into the camera and put your finger on the sensor when you see a circle around your face.

You were right, thanks. I had to wait for the circle to appear.

[REQUEST] Intelligent gravity rotation toggle

It's very inconvenient to use my phone when lying on bed. I sometimes switch between landscape view and portrait view but I can't turn on the g-sensor auto rotation because what is "down" in my view is actually horizontal. Are there any "intelligent" rotation toggles that can calibrate the "ideal" gravity direction and automatically rotate the screen to fit the user's view?
PS: Technically, I think the compass is also needed to perform this function.
Same here. I switched off auto rotation and can now easily use it when laying in bed.

Use the rotate app from market. It's great, can force rotation if app normally doesn't too.

So you rotate manually when lying in bed? I think it's technically possible to make a software that rotates automatically after the user point out the ideal "down" direction.

A solution to offset the rotation +-90degrees would be nice

I've just made an app to solve it. See

Control watch brightness by swipe gesture from every screen

Check out this demo video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5seNbOB-aSs
Get the app here (100% free):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.edgecontrols.android
For me one of the most useful apps since the huawei watch has no sensors.
Its a little bit tricky at first, but with a little bit of practice, this will work fine. Dont forget to set the correct possition fields in the smartphone app.
Works like a charm.

Thanks, what an awesome little app! Since you've played with it more, what are the smaller boxes at the top and bottom of the position screen are for? Ideally I'd like the slider to work across the top of the watchface, but I haven't been able to figure that out yet.
Also, in your video, you say you can customize it to show the percentage or not. The percentage shows for me, but I don't see any options to customize it at all.
No go here, installed and I can turn the brightness down but not up again. To make things worse, a cold reboot is needed to get viewable brightness (aw 1.5 stock)

It's cool but I feel it's just faster to press the button 3 times to temporary increase the brightness. Hopefully there's a light sensor on the HW2..

The triple tap doesn't work for me. Is there something special you have to do to enable it?

Not that i know of. Mine's completely stock, btw (v1.5).
EDIT: just so we're clear, you're not tapping on the screen, are you? I was referring to the metal button on the side. Press that quickly 3x and it'll increase the brightness.

Thanks, it does work after all. There just wasn't much difference with my watchface to notice the difference.
this was a good app recommendation ...
great app, and it goes darker then brightness 1 so already removed the other app I used for bedroom use

Where are the special camera features???

I know I heard that night sight isn't available yet, but where is auto focus tracking, top shot, and live lens? Just got my white 128gb Pixel 3 XL and none of those features are present.
Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
They all work on my phone.
Lens, is in More. To be honest, I'm not sure how to get top shot going, nor auto focus tracking in video...
You do the updates...go to camera app and select more?

auto focus tracking is done by tapping a subject on the screen.
night sight already works, check these forums.
top shot: Open camera app in your Google Pixel 3 & Pixel 3 XL, Now take a picture with your device, Now open the picture you took with your Pixel 3 & Pixel 3 XL, Swipe up the screen until you see photo details, Now move finger left or right until you see recommended. You can pick the recommended one as the best picture.
Lens is supposed to work in the regular viewfinder for the camera, not as a separate mode. Top Shot does not work. Super res zoom does not work. Anyone know what's up with these features?

Night sight is in a modded camera apk. I know all about that.
Interestingly enough, auto focus tracking only started working in the stock camera AFTER installing the modded camera apk (CameraP3) .
But still no super res zoom or top shot in stock camera on the Pixel 3 XL.

Top shot works. Make sure motion is on (not auto). Like someone mentioned above, after photo is taken view the photo and swipe up, you'll see a bunch of photos taken with the top shot selected.

With motion set to on, it works, but isn't anywhere near as intuitive as other videos I've seen. I have to click on the preview, then swipe up, THEN click on recommended shots, then I'm able to check out the top shots. I thought you just swiped up from the viewfinder and it immediately took you to the top shot of the last photo you took.

Yeah, I've seen several videos where they show just that; they take the picture and it's there, they don't leave the camera for the preview or any of that. Some editing going on there I guess. At any rate I had expected to find it in the camera app. Same with adjusting the bokah on portraits, I expected a slider in the camera screen, not having to switch to the preview and then fiddle it from there. In other words some reviews have led me to believe I could do it both during and after taking the photo. IMO opinion thats most def how it should be. Overall the camera app isn't as easy to figure out as with a sammy where you can figure things out just clicking around. I had to do an internet search to find out how to do the top shot.

Except it is. Make sure it is on and not auto, take a picture, click on the picture on the bottom right, then swipe up. You'll see a bunch of pictures from left to right (pretty small), you can either click on one, or slide one way. Trust me, it's there. I used it last night.
From what I see, the best quality overall picture is the one you initially see (the clearest + people smiling). However, I selected some different ones because I liked the way my kids looked better in some other shots. Overall, I really dig.
Yeah, we understand it's there, the comment refers to the idea that if you have to resort to an internet search to figure out how to turn on a headline feature in a camera app the camera app GUI needs improvement. Why would I expect I need to turn on a seemingly unrelated setting called "motion on" to turn on top shot which itself has no switch enabling it anywhere in the settings? Not exactly intuitive.

Ah, true. I didn't know until this thread myself. They need to add a button that says top shot I think.

Unfriendly camera shutter

Hi
I have had phones with which I can shout photos by just tapping on the screen.
But this camera seems too limited, although photos are great.
I am afraid that if I use any other camera the postprocessing won't be so good and photos will be worse.
Any help to shoot easier with this, my new phone?
I'm confused. What do you mean by "just tapping on the screen"? The camera app has a big button on screen to trigger the shutter. Tapping anyplace else shifts the center of focus.

Go into the camera settings and there is an option to use the volume keys to trigger the shutter if that helps you

It's compatible. For example:
Motorola: dragging the "circle" it focuses. Touching the screen, out of the circle, it shots.
Xiaomi: touching the screen, it focuses. Then, once focused, in the middle of the circle appears a camera which if it's touched, it shots.

Question Is 'Stand mode' even possible?. Use front display/camera while unfolded

Hello,
sometimes I'll find usefull using the fold in 'stand' mode, semi flexed about 60 degrees, and working with the front display/camera, is this even possible? I can't find any 'mode' to force using the front display instead of the internal one.
Also, it will be usefull to use the front screen camera while using the phone semiflexed, but again, I can't find the way to select this camera while semiflexed and with the internal display in use.
Thank you !
Hello,
I don't know what settings you have but at 60° I still can see the exterior screen here and front camera is matching exterior too. I tested with closed phone, start screen then open at 60°.
Ok at 45° it's switching to internal screen. Not sure what you mean, but you can play with labs settings and flex mode.

Hey ric, you point me out to my problem, If the front screen is 'on' y can open the phone until more or less 60º, i was ttryng the opposite, start with the phone opened, and begin closing it. Thank you!
Regarding the use of the front screen camera while in flex mode and using the inner screen, is this possible?
Wait i don't understand. If you are watching front screen, front camera is working. But I think it's impossible to use internal camera (no sense to do this no?) Try also modes and routines if you want to test actions with folding status

sorry, i didn't explain it right.
I want to use the fold in flex mode, or even unfolded, but be able to switch (inside the camera app) all over the cameras, even the one in the front 6.2 screen
Why don't you turn the Fold 180° and youse the main camara at the Back. Ok, the phone lays on the front display in this case. Put a silk or paper towel under it and it will be fine.

that's the reason, because I don't have anything protecting the front screen, but yes, that's always an option. Anyway, samsung should let us use all the cameras while unfolded.
well, maybe they should. In my opinion the front camara is the least favourite one to use in almost all possible situations. Selfie? Use the main cam unfolded with the front display as preview. Video call? The display cam under main screen does a good job for video calls and the big screen is amazing for that. Semiflex? Use the main cam for things behind the phone, it's amazing for that.
Just don't use the front cam. I mean, ok, if you need a quick mirror to check your face, than it's the quickest cam ready to check. But in other cases i avoid the front cam.
