Hey all,
I switched from Iphone 4 to galaxy s 3 and love it. I want to know if there's a way to delete apps that came with the phone ( all the ATT apps)?
also I have the Samsung SGH-I747, what's the difference from the I9300? I see that everywhere when I google samsung galaxy S 3 4.1.1 update? will that work with my phone?
I tried to root my device but it was giving me errors so I unrooted.
I'll definitely try that again soon.
What are good sites for info and "hacks" for this awesome phone?!
Any good App recommendations?
So far I'm impressed with the phone and love it!!!

Nice move! To remove apps, root the phone and you'll have that power. BUT.... this is the Sprint SPH-L710 forum, not the AT&T. Do not flash anything from here, go to the AT&T thread and read up on what is working over there.
Sorry, Should I move this thread? or will the Mod do it?

And to further answer your question no don't flash anything for the i9300 - that's the international version and doing so will brick your phone.

I switched my iPHONE 4 to the GS3 too!!!! Message me if you figured out to do anything u asked. I'm still trying to learn as well.
I love reading topics like this. Welcome to Android world. Where YOU own your phone! Good luck and remember.. READ! READ! READ!!! Its easy to brick your phone in the beggining. Even I did myself too.. twice! Poor Epic 4g lol

I too made the switch a couple of months ago. I've since rooted and installed CM10 nightlies and I'm loving it! This phone is such a refreshing change from the iPhone and I'm learning something new all the time.
If I can give some advice. You have a lot more power over the S3 than you did with the iPhone, even with Jailbreaking. Because of this you can really screw the device up if you don't do something correctly, just be sure to read and read and keep reading. Ask questions and then when your sure, read a bit more then take the plunge. Once you get a grasp of things the mystery goes away and it's no big deal but until you've rooted and installed a recovery, then ROM'ed your phone it will seem crazy.
Enjoy it.
Root your phone. Follow Mr Robinson's post under stickies. Then download titanium backup. You should have everything you need there.

i9300 = international version (quad core, 1gb ram)
i747 = att version (dual core, 2gb ram)
my favoruite apps are flipboard (pre-installed), jetpack joyride, granny smith, subway surf, and nova launcher atm. if you're a redditor, reddit sync is great as well.
for info and hacks, xda is the best.

Welcome to the flash crazy work of Android :silly:
The i9300 is the international version, and the i747 is the AT&T version. You want to make sure you DO NOT cross flash anything from the i9300 onto the i747 and vise versa, you will brick, and brick badly.
For Rooting I wrote this up a while back and should be useful:
Recovery mode:
Hold down Volume Up, Home and then the Power button
Download Mode:
Hold down Volume Down, Home and then power until “Warning!!” message is displayed
Press Volume Up to continue.
Navigating Clockwork Mod Recovery:
Use the Volume Up and Down arrow keys to change the highlighted option and the home key to select an option. The Back soft key works, but will not be lit and will take you back one screen.
1. Make sure all Samsung Drivers are installed.
2. Copy CMW_SuperUser_v3.07.zip to your internal SD
3. Reboot your phone into download mode
4. Go into the folder you extracted Odin3 into and run Odin3 v3.04.exe
5. Connect your phone to your computer via USB
6. Click on PDA and in the Open window that pops up navigate to clockworkmod.tar
- Verify that ONLY Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked
7. Click Start.
8. Power off your device and boot into Recovery mode
-To boot into Recovery mode: Hold down Volume Up, Home and then the Power button until you are in Recovery (it should say CWM-based Recovery at the top of the screen)
9. Install CMW_SuperUser_v3.07.zip
10. Reboot
11. Install BusyBox from Google Play Market, grant it SuperUser permissions and it'll walk through the rest.
12. Update Binaries.
- Open the SuperUser app
- Get into settings (the wrench icon in the upper right of the screen)
- Select Su binary under the General section towards the bottom of the list
- Select Update
To remove the bloatware from AT&T, you will need to root, and there are 3 ways that I use to remove that stuff. 1 is to buy Titanium Backup, and "freeze" the apps you don't want to use. They are still installed, but are not visible.
2nd way is to use Titanium Backup, and Backup and/or uninstall the apps. The 3rd way is to get a root explorer application(there are a few good free ones) and go to system/apps, and manually delete them yourself. The easiest way would be to freeze them in TiBu, and the safest. If you mess something up, you can always go back and Un-freeze the app
This SHOULD get you going
Hey! Welcome to the wonderful world of android. You are in for a lot of treats as I'm sure you've seen already. To answer your question about removing the. "bloatware" as we call it, there is one other way other than rooting you can get it off your app drawer and make it easier to ignore. Find the app you want to get rid of. Then press and hold on it until the home screens come up. Drag the icon down to the "app info" icon and drop it there. This will load up the info screen. From here, select the "disable" button and it will be removed from your app drawer. This is an easier way than rooting and it won't void your warranty either! Hope that helps.
Also, check out the amazon app store. It is pretty awesome. Free app every day. You can also customise your phone using zedge.

NVM I figured it out
I made the same switch
I am going on about 2 weeks now with the GS3. It is a big learning curve so far. As the stock GS3 with touchwiz I am not a fan. I do not like what samsung did to android at all. In particular all of the motion stuff is really stupid and the samsung messaging app is just terrible. I also don't like their default keyboard.
However I rooted it and installed CM10 and I really like that. I am a little torn as I dont know if I should judge this phone based on how it is in stock mode or for everything I can do with it (rooting, roms, etc....). Coming from the iphone I do miss the stability and ease of use. But I do like the bigger screen the LTE and being able to customize more, like what apps open with what actions and what not. All of the sharing options are nice too.
I would say if I was stuck with touchwiz I would probably return the phone and go with another iphone, but being able to use CM10 makes all the difference. I like both OS's and think each has their positives and drawbacks.
I am not trying to start a flame war just giving my opinion after a couple weeks of making the switch.
That's the beauty of android...you don't have to stick with the manufacturers skin.

Agree, but I wish it wasn't required to enjoy the phone. sometimes you want something to just work. plus most of the ROM's have at least some issues that wouldnt be found in a release by a major company. Though touch wiz was just as buggy.

I made the jump from iPhone less than a month ago and have already tried atleast 7 diffrent roms...
Stock rom worked just fine for me all the time and I do find the motions useful...just disable them if you dont like them... I think like you that both have their pros and cons...but im finding much more pros for the Android than iOS...
Maybe there was something wrong with your phone from the get go...just saying consider taking it back to the store for a new one...cause I never had any bugs in touchwiz when I was running the stock rom...
Not trying to be rude, just giving my opinion...
Sent from AT&T Galaxy S3 SGH-i747, just in case you were wondering...
I came from an iPhone 4 to a Galaxy SII (I777) last year, and now I just got the S3. I understand where your coming from where you like the ease of use of iOS and the stability, but to be honest I wasn't having any trouble or stability issues on the either of my phones with the stock ROM on Touchwiz. With that being said I still flashed a lot of other ROMs because I love tinkering and trying new stuff, I decided to stick with AOKP which is a CM10 AOSP based ROM and I couldn't be happier. I do miss some of the neat features with touchwiz though, like Smartstay and Direct-call.
I'll preface this by saying I'm not just being lazy. I have researched some, and plan to research more, but generally find the ability to directly ask current users more useful, as better solutions and suggestions seem to pop up.
Anyhow, I'm getting the note II tomorrow and have a few questions. I'm coming from the GSII, and have been flashing since the G1 and Nexus one days, so simple beginning user questions aren't a problem. I.e. what is root? Should I root? How to root?
Would you recommend running stock or a custom ROM? Yes I know it depends on the individual, but what is your individual opinion? This, I think, at least more so than with the GSII, is a tough question, as TW has many features with the Note II.
How is the functionality of the S pen limited with non TW Roms? (Can annotated screen shots still be taken? Does the phones proximity software with the S pen still work? Other missing S pen features?).
What, if any, of the TW built in software features are eliminated with TW and non-TW ROMs? (Smart stay, smart rotation, etc?
Do you prefer TW or stock ROMs?
Personally I prefer everything about stock android. The look, feel, everything. With the GSII, no major features (sans WiFi calling) were missing when running CM for example. What stock TW feature do you wish you could have with CM or any AOSP ROM that isn't available?
Do you use a case? If so, which one? Would you recommend it?
Any general first time user advice? Any apps you recommend specifically for/with the Note II?
Thanks gentlemen and ladies, any and all input is greatly appreciated!

I tried to run rooted stock for a few weeks. It was good enough for a daily use. But having a debloated, tweaked stock rom was way better, performance was excellent better battery life. I tried using touch wiz also, but when i put a custom stock rom i used nova launcher, looks like touchwiz but lots of options. Obviously i prefer stock rom. Lol. Personally i Can't live without wi-fi calling so i stick with stock roms.
Cases? I got the xda cruzer case, a body glove(little bit thinner than the xda one), and an incipio type thin hard case. I'm also using a privacy filter screen protector but i might get a spigen ultra clear one.
For tweaking I'm using set cpu, goo manager, titanium back up, es file explorer, mobile odin, light manager, adaway, mw manager, push notification are some i use most of the time. Oh yeah i forgot lmt launcher is another that i cant live without after using it for a few weeks.
POWERED by FROSTY!
Awesome! Thanks a lot for the input. Looking forward to officially migrating this afternoon!
Of you want to run stock with benefits checked out tweaked..

Wouldnt TW and stock roms be the same thing? Since TW is stock on this phone.... You probably meant CM based roms.
I personally prefer TW based roms because of those little things that cant be ported over to CM. A few reasons i chose the note 2 over other phones is because the added functionality of the s pen and all that it brings. There are apps that make up for it, but i take a lot of screen shots and edit them to send info.
Jedi, tweaked, myrom are the three best. I personally choose jedi master, for wifi calling. Jedi x is international based.
As for cases: i run two cases, ones just a plastic slim case that protects the phones edges and doesnt add bulk. The other is a faux leather wallet case. Holds my license and debit card. A bit bulky but thats a good thing when it carries everything u dont wanna lose.

Yea, I should have clarified, but I meant stock Android, but really AOSP.
Are there any themes I can use with TW to give the CM jellybean look?
Im actually really interested in imitating your two case approach. Any way you could post links for your cases?
Thanks!

this case i got from another user here, hes the owner of the gameklip and he had a surplus since they didnt stick to the gameklip. he sold it to me for a penny + shipping, but this is what i have on it.
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trk...laxy+note+2+leather+wallet&_sacat=0&_from=R40
cant find the exact one i have for the faux leather wallet, but those are it, i paid around $7 for it. holding up realy nice, nothings peeling or fading.
best thing about these cases is that i can read the NFC tags through them.
just download the galaxy note 2 kits
everything is there
I tried stock and then every custom ROM out there and ended up running nothing but CM10.1 Nightlies.
Im not sure where to post this. Is any new users having constant freezes with note 2? I tried jedi rom with different kernel and also back to stock with stock kernel deodexed. I get freeze sometime in xda app. Mostly, get the freeze in the game and kicks me out to homescreen..

Hi, my names Chad and im a flashaholic. It all started when I got my Sprint Galaxy Note II. After rooting and flashing my first rom there was no looking back.
I have found a daily driver and I'm not going to drop any names. Every dev involved with creating these mods and roms for this device are amazing. While performance is important, I like moding, EVERYTHING.
I would like to know what everyone else likes about flashing roms. What is important to you? Maybe some screenshots of mods you've done to your phone?
Here's my keyboard. (=

I actually flash a lot less than I did when I have the Evo 4G. I'm more modded, but I'm mainly just changing files.
I'm running doexidezed stock MC2, Persues Kernel 3.6, with the 4-1 reboot, all mutliwindow mods. Changed the Spen detection sounds to ligh sabler, changed boot anmination to Andy's Pee On Apple, changed boot sound to Lexus ISF start up and engine rev, disable shut off animations, using only one homescreen page (no widgets), use the Trev E Mod WiFi tether beta 3.3 and folder mount.
I'm interested in the cyogenmod when it's out of alpha. I'm waiting for the mutliboot mod to get completed. It's getting closer on the international. BootManager on the Evo4G was the best app for flashaholics. You could have a daily and as many ROMs as your SD card could hold. I usually had three--barebones Sense rom, Cyogenmod (Android 2.3), and Cyogenmod (Android 4). Here and there I would have a forth or fifth to fiddle with.
The other rom I'm interested in trying out, and it's extremely early, is more of port of the Galaxy Tab 10.1. I've seen a couple screen shots, pretty sweet if you're into the mutlitwindow/mutlitask thing.
Right now, deoxidized stock meets my needs well. Nothing, other than Google Wallet, appears to be borked. And a few mods, I able to more.
My name is Jamice Welbon and I am a flashaholic I first introduced to flashing through my friend Treo Central.com he get me hooked flashing my Treo 600, 650, 700p and 710wp but soon after that treocentral.com was not cutting it for me so I tried ppc geeks. com and started flashing my touch pro 2.
I tried every windows ROM I could find and even experimented with some android. With the introduction of Windows phone and the stifled future future ROM development I knew I needed something stronger.
I went to Xda developers.com and started using Android on a regular bases. I first purchases the Samsung Epic then I tried the Epic Touch 4g and I am currently using the Galaxy Note 2. I have customized my boot animation (My Little Pony FIM), converted my phone into tablet mode, changed my font, added a hack version of Google Wallet, but I am currently using a non hack version since the Note 2 is now an official supported device. I have a hacked mod to remove the unsupported device message from Google Wallet since my device is rooted.
I am currently using a ROM which is half touch wiz and half stock Android. The dialer and contacts are stock Android. I even put a mod on my phone where I can customize the DPI for every app on my phone. I can even open up as many apps as I want and have them floating on my phone's desktop. I am fening for the Galaxy Note 3.
I am currently thinking about modding my shut down screen.
I need help and that is why I am on this forum. It has affected my job and my relationships in a negative way.

Speaking of which........
I have only had one rom on this phone and i love the phone! I am currently running maks allstar rom and i am ready to try another. I was looking around and saw that there are some floating window mods now! WOOHOOOO SOLD!
I looked around and found this post:

So I assume im on MA7 with my current rom whatever that is and I need to get MC2 roms for the floating windows?
The choice between 5 roms what ever shall i do? Does anyone have any suggestions? I like bling and great sound mods and all the bells and whistles including wifi tether and lightsaber spen effects!
It seems like there are alot of different versions of this phone. I assume im in the right spot with a sprint note 2? The mackrom allstars has been working great.
Thank you much!
Flashing adventure
So i ventured off to my flashing adventure. I first tried jelly 16.0 which was pretty awesome and the flash works in regular browser which is AWESOME but it didnt seem to have floating window. I tried installing the apk switcher thingie and it didnt even show up. I found the thread for the floating multi window installed it and nothing..... I flashed the sprint zip file for it and then the phone wouldnt boot.
I installed wolfpack and i still dont have floating windows...... i am going to install the apk next and will update my progress
Ok so im supposed to have a toggle icon which i dont and waiting for answer in the rom forum. Also the flash doesnt work in the desktop version of the browser something that worked in jellie rom 16.0 =(
Im running MacksRom (Plain Jane MA7) at the moment and have multiwindow desktop mod. It's in xposed settings.

No. It's a framework work. As mentioned above, you just need install the Xposed framework APK. I've used it on a deoxidezed MA7 stock rom. MC2 is just more performance tweaks and bug fixes.
Ok i understand more but now i lost multiview
i did the installer i activated the plugins in teh installer i set the resolution on android system to 1280x800 i have rebooted and no multiview now. i cant get it back =(
Moon, check your pm's.

I finally got it worked out
I checked out the OP in jellyroms post where it talks about installing the framework. I factory reset cleared caches dalvik etc and reflashed. Once flashed i did exactly what it said minus the downloading the items because they were alread in the rom. Now i have multiwindow. I didnt mess with the DPI though only set the resolution to 1280x800 and it works. I am scared to use the DPI changer though because although it looks really super cool. I lost the multiview doing it. I even tried setting the multiview to the same dpi. the com-flash whatever file and reboot still no luck... So it does work but im in regular phone resolution which isnt bad i guess because you dont have to mess with all the apps dpis etc? the internet built in was FC'n during my mess of flashing etc.....
Any ideas or suggestions on why i lost the multiview? I would like to change the dpi at some point but i dont want to factory reset (which is what i had to eventually do to get the multiview back anyway.
Thank you for all that put up with my frantic questions.
Glad you got it up and working!

Questions go under questions. Theres yet to be a specific ROM thread up where that would apply.
they have cm booting on the tmobile one, the majority of that code would work fine for the sprint one. chances are they will be unified builds. if this was teh s5 or anything id work towards fleshing out the device tree and bringing it up, but i am truly happy with my note 4 stock with xposed. i dont use all the fancy samsung features but i do use enough of them to not even really want to bother flashing aosp and losing out on it. granted this is my first note device but i cant see or imagine why anyone would want to use something other than stock, battery is amazing, features are top notch and its very fast and fluid.
I came from a nexus 5 but i sold that and for a week i used a kyocera echo until my note 4 preorder was ready to pick up, it truly is amazing in how much progress has been made in such a short time.
I agree with Shabbypenguin.
I'd rather have a stock ROM with all the cool Samsung functionality of floating windows, one handed moded, functional heart rate sensor, S-Pen apps, and camera app all work great.
Instead we need a rom with stock as base, and AOSP apps like I describe in my thread:
My "Dream ROM" for the Note 4 would be:
*Rooted
*Knox removed
*CyanogenMod style theming
*Samsung and Sprint bloatware removed (accept for Facebook sync)
*TouchWiz apps (calendar, messaging, phone, clock, calculator, lockscreen, notification quick settings) replaced with CyanogenMod versions

i swore i replied to you in there but i guess i didnt :/. the cm theme manager isnt possible on stock, its embedded in so many core files to be able to alter everything on the fly its not possible without recompiling with the code added in, and we cant recompile touchwiz.

My main gripe is the typing lag,
in some apps. I notice the typing lag mainly on TouchWiz roms and in Google hangouts and a few other apps. I've tried different keyboards and they all lag on TouchWiz. If I use Aosp, no lag at all anywhere.
Yes the features of the Note 4 are great but I don't use and can live without most of them. I really wanted this device for its spen. I'd take the overall smoothness of cm11 and it's lean build over the features in touch wiz. Hopefully we get a cm build going.
Cm12? Mmmmm
I was just reading about CM12.
I'm strongly thinking of moving over.
I can mimic floating windows with xhalo xposed. It has resizable windows that work similar to TouchWiz floating windows.
I'm not sure how I'd mimic one handed mode
Or the stock camera app which has dual facing camera modes.
Any ideas?
Read on land of droid the cm12 roadmap

Looking forward to cm on the note 4. It's pretty much the only thing keeping me from buying one.

Yea probably not man. Anyone with enough skill can build the device tree. Its just nice when we get official maintainers. Give it time, it will happen. Samsung devices ALWYS get cm.

Have we reached a point where all of the stuff you mentioned is no longer going to be able to be incorporated into AOSP? I came to the note 4 from the note 2, and I agree touchwiz is pretty nicely refined, but I would like to see AOSP. From some post's I've read hear and there, it appears that touchwiz just gets more complex. What about the Nexus 6 OS?

Ok everyone, 1st time poster here hoping for help (without being beaten up about my question).
I have moved from Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to One Plus 3. The phone is great, BUT I really really miss two items from my Note 4
The Samsung Dialer - It has Video Chat to other Samsung users built in, the Google phone app seems a little "sparse" to me (just my opinion)
Messaging App by Samsung - It shows when other samsung users are typing and gives status such as "read" once a message is read.
Is there anyway I can get these two items Phone & Messaging onto the Oneplus 3 phone as my primary apps?
Please let me know - Thanks for being awesome & helpful !
Won't anyone help me determine is this is doable ??

more than likely not
Highly, highly doubtful. Someone can chime in with more knowledge, but that is pretty deep framework stuff from what I know.
Sent from my unknown using XDA-Developers mobile app
You have to have a Samsung device for those to work. They need Samsung framework and drivers to work at all and any port would not have the Samsung to Samsung options. Also the read recept is just that. It can be turned on in most messaging apps, but won't do any good if the other end has them disabled.
