[Q] What car dock apps do YOU use? - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm looking for a great car dock app. I've always used CarHome Ultra, but I want to step it up quite a bit, if possible. One thing with CarHome Ultra that I do like, is I can use its media buttons to skip songs on Pandora.
Taking it to the next level, I want to go completely hands free. I realize there's a built-in Samsung CarMode that will launch when connected to a Bluetooth device, however I've found it to be a bit limiting. If I remember correctly, it has a "Music" feature, which I believe is linked to Google Music. I do not want this. Instead, I would like to be able to play Pandora, and skip songs as well with my voice.
Off the top of my head, I want these basic functions for hands free driving:
Pandora Skips
Navigation
Make/Answer Calls
Send a text message
Or if I asked the AI to find the nearest restaurant, gas station or something
Again, all of this, hands free. Any thoughts?

[Q] Headphones w/ mic when playing music

I noticed how on the Apple Iphones, there are these really nice shortcuts you can use with the button on your headphone to go forward and backward in music. I was wondering if there was some program that emulated the same kind of shortcuts. I found some headphones that claim they can do that with the iphone, but i would imagine it is a quality of the cellphone's program, not the headphones themselves.
So(to sum it up), is there some way to do it so when i press the headphone button twice, the song goes forward, and when i do it thrice, it goes backwards? Or if possible customize the buttons even more(so i can have some functions when i am calling and stuff)

would love to know more on this
Yes. PowerAmp supports this. Forward at least, unsure about going backwards.
As for a headset that supports this, I bought these after SIGNIFICANT research online (I'm an audiophile so I demand the best sound quality I can get) and am very happy with them. PERFECT sound quality with just a little EQ work from PowerAmp and the mic works for calls and to control the music player.

Most music players allow these shortcuts, even the stick music player. Just dig around the settings. I couldnt live without then, very very useful

Just like he said. Music players have their own settings as to what the "media button" can do. I believe you have the option to start and stop, or forward. Beyond that, I haven't been able to get anything else out of it.
I heard 2.2 was supposed to allow some more functionality but haven't seen much other than maybe assigning a different function for the media button. I use a pair from skullcandy.
They may say iphone but they are generally universal as to the connection just like you would find on different brands of mp3 players.

[Q] AVRCP priority

Not sure the best place to ask this...when you've got your epic connected to a AVRCP-capable device (like a bluetooth headset with a play/pause button), the play button is capable of having the epic launch an app in order to play something is nothing is open.
My question is, what, in the Epic's software, determines the priority of which app gets launched, out of all the various playback apps you might have?
Some background: I mostly use my BT headphones for podcast listening on the go. I set up Tasker to launch Google Listen on phone startup (and then immediately go back to desktop) so that the app is in recent apps list. Then, if I put the play button on my headphones, Listen will launch and my podcast will start playing. If I want to switch over to pandora, I manually close Listen (using the back button) and launch pandora. Now my headphones control the play/pause on Pandora without trying to launch listen instead, which is what they might do if I had both apps open.
The problem comes in that I installed the Google Music beta app (this is different from the Music app that comes with the Epic, for clarity) so that I could access my music from the cloud. This app seems to take priority over all others. If I launch it, even once, it will always bypass Listen from then on, even if I manually close, it, kill the service, and dump the phone's ram. The only way I can switch the phone back to Listen app mode is to manually freeze Music with Titanium backup.
This is really annoying.
So, yeah, my question is, what on the phone makes it determine that launching the Music app is preferable to resuming the Listen app?
I find this extremely annoying too (because I have to pull over to fix it) so I only have miui player installed, not quite the answer but this sounds interesting would like t know as well

Music and the best way to handle it.

Greetings. Im hoping someone might be able to help me with a very annoying problem im having.
I have somewhere around 2000 music tracks, all of which are uploaded to Google Music. Ive had GMusic since they first announced the beta and i love the fact that my entire library is everywhere I go. I also love that i can download the tracks directly on my phone, from my phone.
However using the app to play music is horrible. In the past i used poweramp, which is a wonderful player. My main problem with Google Music is it audibly cuts the power from the headphone jack in between tracks, so when i have it hooked up to my car stereo i hear a pop when the track changes... which annoys me to utter hell. On top of that it behaves weirdly some times, for example i had it set to shuffle all the other day, and it would stop on every song, and i would have to hit play manually to go to the next song.
What i would like to do is go back to using PowerAmp, but be able to manage my music as easily as i do with GMusic. Problem is that, PowerAmp doesnt see the music i download from the GMusic app and the one time it did, all the meta-data wasnt there. So all poweramp said was "Unknown track 1".
The other side of the problem is managing it on my computer. Since i bought music from Itunes and Google Music, keeping everything organized has become a nightmare(i have a number of compilations, and when you download the music from google music, it organizes it by artist not by the album). Which is why i dont want to have to manually move files to my phone. Ive tried WinAmp and Double Twist, and both have their annoyances. I was wondering what other people do, maybe someone can make my life easier.
subsonic, streams from your PC, no need to upload it to the cloud and it the UI is not bad either. it can also cache your streams for offline play

app for driving?

I am looking for a way to go nearly hands free in my car and need a decent Text to speech, and voice to text app.
I use my phone for music as well in the car and have tasker set to launch google music as soon as my phone is plugged in in my car. The driving app would need to be able to work with google music (vlingo incar shut off the music)
any suggestions?

Google Music on Bluetooth in car

Whenever I get in my car and my bluetooth connects, google play music just starts playing whatever was last on on Google Music App. I'm a spotify user and would like to change the default from Google to Spotify. I can't seem to find a way to stop Google music from playing by default. It's very annoying. Works great if you use Google music, but otherwise, annoying.
Anyone having this issue? Anyone have a fix?
AFAIK there isn't a way to prevent media autoplay when connecting to (certain?) car stereos.
Interestingly enough, I don't think that the behavior is actually specific to GPM. I usually listen to podcasts in the car rather than music, and as long as the phone hasn't rebooted or GPM hasn't been used since Pocket Casts was playing, my podcast resumes when I get back in the car usually even if the notification has been closed. It may be the the Spotify app is missing some hook that allows it to take advantage of this feature, but I don't believe we have any way of affecting it directly.
BRO. This **** happened to me for like a week straight and I was getting pretty angry. I made the mistake of asking Google Assistant to play a song for me ONCE and every time I connected to a bluetooth device (usually my car) it started playing the song from where it left off. I don't know what I did to make it stop to be honest, so I'm not much of a help but I can confirm this is a very annoying issue.
I did NOT, however, uninstall Google Music, Disable it, or touch the app in any capacity. There's no option to prevent it from autoplaying, either. I might've let the song play out, but I'm afraid to open the app again to take a look.
