[Q] cant see addons - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using adbfire to setup amazone fire tv stick it sideloads kodi fine, but when i use restore feature to install addons it tells me that restore is complete and i check kodi on the stick and it shows the right amount of data installed but when i startup kodi it does not show any of my addons. any help or ideas are appreciated.

Open Kodi up, Goto System>Apperance>File List > show hidden files, exit system
Now Goto system on home screen, select file manager add source, Select external storage, select andriod select data, select org.xbmc.kodi select files select kodi press ok, press ok again. Now In File Manager select addons and see if they are there.
If they are go to userdata, select database, now delete addons16.db and restart kodi. It should pick up all installed addons

This may be due to a bug in adbFire, fixed for the next release, imadder's workaround is correct. Also the backup format changed after v1.18 to one similar to the backup addon available in Kodi. Older adbFire backups will need adjustment.
Older backups can be updated pretty easily. The new format requires that all of the folders under .kodi reside in the top level of the backup folder. With the older format, the container folder had the structure Backup Folder/.kodi/userdata,addons,etc. Simply move everything under .kodi up one level then delete the .kodi folder. So the new backup will be Backup Folder/userdata,addons,etc.

Creating an unique update.zip

I switch roms constantly on my phone and the most annoying part of that is having to every time enter my gmail, facebook, twitter and other information that never changes... Is there anyway to make a FLASHABLE update.zip that I can just install after a rom flash? Out would even be better if I can put certain applications in there too. Like my Angry Birds, Rom Manager, and Titanium Backup. You know just the apps that no matter what rom I use I always have to reinstall. This would save me and whoever find themselves in this situation alot of time when it comes to experimenting with different Roms. Please help!
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I don't know about login information but you can make an update.zip with miscellaneous apps that you don't want to re-download. It's kind of a pain (personal opinion) to make an update.zip but here are some directions:
1. Create a folder, we'll call it "update".
2. Inside "update" make two new folders called "META-INF" (without the quotes and capitalized) and "data" (also without quotes).
3. Inside "META-INF" create a folder called "com".
4. Inside "com" create a folder called "google".
5. Inside "google" create a folder called "android".
6. Close the folders you have open and re-open "update".
7. Open "data" and create a folder called "app".
8. Add the .apk files you want to flash to "data/app".
9. I've attached a few files to the post, unzip "secFiles.zip" and put "CERT.RSA", "CERT.SF", and "MANIFEST.MF" into your "update/META-INF" folder.
10. Also attached is "script.zip". Unzip this and add the "updater-script" and "update-binary" to "update/META-INF/com/google/android".
11. Now that you have the folder structuring complete you can zip it all up. When you zip it, make sure you zip "data" and "META-INF" NOT "update". You will have errors if you zip "update"!
12. If you have ClockworkMod Recovery you do not need to sign it. If not then I recommend making a nandroid backup and copying it to your computer so that your WiMax (4G) keys are backed up, then switching to ClockworkMod Recovery.
13. Make a nandroid backup anyways! Don't come calling me if you're phone messes up. I do not believe there to be anything wrong in my directions but I can't afford to fix you're phone.
14. Flash away! Hopefully it worked. I'll try to elaborate if you're confused.
Thank you so Much! but thats just half the equation... Titanium Backup has a way to backup and restore the Accounts and Sync data which is what the goal is here... im thinking about finding a way to extract that and put it into a flashable zip. Im learning alot about the android structure and it might now be long until i unintentionally solve this myself
You could add Titanium Backup to your flashable zip and have it preinstalled as well as your backup wherever it belongs. (Sorry, don't use Titanium Backup)
Or another idea to try out, if you have Clockwork Recovery you can restore just the data partition. I'd be careful of doing it but if you're in the mood to experiment I think it might do what you're looking for. Note that you'll have to have a data.img nandroid backup of everything you want. If you manage to figure it out please share because I hate typing my ridiculously long passwords every time I flash a new rom.
you can make a flashable zip for titanium. from the app, press menu > more > create update.zip
this option gives you an option to create a signed zip file (you need a free app from the market called zip signer) that will install titanium as either a user or system file
It would be great to know how to create a update.zip of the titanium backups and that way, it would include +data
Anyone know how to do that?

.zip/script for fixing CM10 - 0 parition

I was looking around and saw there may be a .zip to flash to restore the 0 partition back to normal when going back to a JB ROM.
I looked around and tried to search. Can anyone lend me a hand and shoot me a link?
Thanks.
I copy and pasted this from the s3 side.......
We all had that problem, we can't find our backups after flashing Cm 10.1. IT IS FIXABLE! So why would you factory reset through Odin? Here is how to fix it.Step One: Make sure you are on a ROM with the play store. (When I flashed CM10.1, I had CM10 still on my sdcard with the Gapps, so I flashed that.)I use ES file explorer, but you use what you want. Be sure to rename any important folders just in case so the files don't over lap.********************************If you play games.. BACKUP YOUR DATA! THIS PROCESS DELETES GAME AND APP DATA! I AM SORRY! USE BACKUP PRO OR TITANIUM BACKUP IF YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH IT! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!*********************************Step Two: Go into your 0 folder and highlight everything in there except Android. Shown here:Step Three: Hold down on a folder and select "Move to"Step Four: it will bring up a box, go up till you get to the parent folder, shown here, and select SDcard (Internal SD!).Step Five: After Selecting the internal SD Card, hit "ok" and it will move everything up to your parent folder where the "0" is. You can delete the "0" Folder (Make Sure there is nothing left in there that you need!), reboot into recovery, and get your backups back!
There are zips but not sure if we have one for the note 2, so id probably try this first..

[Q] Full internal storage but no files

Hi, I have upgraded the TWRP for the purpose of ROM upgrade and after that I can't find any files that use to be on internal storage before. I remember that on the internal storage there was a bunch of standard folders and folder 0 with all those folders and actual files inside. Now the folder 0 is gone (tried all file and folder managers on the phone and on the PC with option show hidden files and folders, but cant find it). Every file manager shows that the internal storage is full but when i check the available content shown there is less than 300mb all together.
Is there a way to restore all those files that I am missing and can anyone help me do it?
Thanks.
Install ES File Explore/ any file manager from Google Play Store. Using this app just enter in your phone storage, that might be sdcard0 named drive in it. You can either go/select from homepage of this application. All you notice there is folder labled '0' and so on. This depends on how much time you flashed custom rom not samsung like, it'd create folders inside that '0' labled folder. If it's hissen you can also unhide all the directories from same app by clicking your menu button Tools>>Hidden files check 'Show Hidden Files'. For advance hidden menu goto settings>>Display settings>>Show hidden files.

Thank you for the reply. I have already done that. It shows some hidden folders but all together those folders are 160MB, and the phone shows that the used space is almost 6GB. Also I still can't find those lost files.

This seems that you've got a big cache mem problem. So you've to reset your phone by Settings>> Backup & Reset >> Factory data reset. This will clears your phone storage completely
Note: Backup your all important data somewhere as it formats full phone storage.
Factory data reset helped for me. If no other options then go for it
Try Developer Options and make sure USB debugging is enabled. This helped to a certain extent. Initially when I selected all folders on my phone it only showed about 13Mb. Now its showing around 2.5Gb which is still not all the phone data but at least I can free up some space

Copy Kodi configuration between FTV sticks?

Can anyone tell me an easy way of copying my Kodi setup between several FTV sticks? I have one setup up with all repos and addons to my liking and want to copy this to a few others that family have bought. I don't want to have to manually add repos and addons for each individual device. I have installed Kodi backup application and backed my own up to the device under /storage/emulated/0/download (from memory may not be correct). Can i use ADB pull to my PC and then push this onto the other FTVs? I haven't much experience of ADB other that installing apps with it. Or if anyone has any easier ways or suggestions i'd be grateful.
Thanks.
/storage/emulated/0/ = /sdcard/
Its just easier to type in /sdcard/ each time, instead of the full filepath.

Yes - its entirely possible, in fact its the way I also like to handle backing up and duplicating a Kodi installation.
All you need to do is
adb pull /sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/ /PATH OF YOUR FOLDER ON THE LOCAL COMPUTER/
then adb push the same folder to another Fire TV (Stick), after you've installed Kodi there (adb install /PATH TO THE APK ON YOUR COMPUTER.apk) and started it once, then exited it - then:
adb push /PATH OF YOUR FOLDER ON THE LOCAL COMPUTER/ /sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/
Thats it. .kodi is a hidden folder on the device (thats what the . stands for), thats about all.

An easy way to browse the Fire TV (Stick) over ADB on Windows is
Total Commander with the ADB filesystem addon: http://totalcmd.net/plugring/android_adb.html
If you use adbfire just hit backup(put the backup where you can find it again) and when it's done connect adbfire to the new fire stick and click restore and navigate to where you saved the backup, pretty simple
Yes and you have not even learn anything about Android file structure, because navigating through folders hurts peoples brains. Instead you'll learn how to push several buttons and put numbers into fields. You know, like in your dayjob (*sarc*). Thats fun.
Also - during the pull operation adb Fire performs, you'll see a nice infinite loop of a fake progression bar - while if you'd be using the real adb you'll see the files actually copying over. Fake progression bar gifs are much more pleasent to look at. They give you a sense of excitement - in not knowing if something is happening, or not.
I say - make everything a person knows as abstract as possible. As far removed from the real thing as it can be. It causes less thoughts. And therefore - less problems in the long run...
I hate this dependency on ADB Fire appraoch. Did so from the very beginning. The program is harshly laid out, end prevents people from gaining any below surface knowledge - its just recommended so much, because people have a hard time typing. I'm not against good GUI's in fact, I prefer them in almost all cases - but ADB Fire and its rivals are just a buttondump fest to prevent real learning.
When replicating an entire FIre TV (Stick) plain adb actually turns out to be faster, and more forward with the information it gives back to you. Because adb install *dragdroptheapk* turns out to be faster than installing apks through ADB fire. But then again - buttons are so likeable.

Also - before using adbFire or adb to do a backup - you could use texturecache.py ( http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=158373 ) to prune ( P ) your Kodi installation, which would delete unnecessary thumbnails that have accumulated in Kodis cache over the time. This will reduce the time the backup takes, as less files are copied over.
Thanks guys. I've never had any luck with the adb tool. It wouldn't ever work for me. Adb push/pull seems straight forward enough I'll try it out.
What I do all the time with all my android devices including Fire TV is use 'ES FILE EXPLORER' to copy the folder 'org.xbmc.kodi' from original device (location: Android/data) onto a shared folder on my network and then copy it from there (using the same ES file explorer on the other devices) back again onto the same location of the receiving device. Works perfectly every time.
Quick question, how is this any different from the "Backup" addon that is used on Kodi? What I usually do is load everything like normal, then when I have my setup just how I want, I go to the "backup" addon, backup all of my info, and then copy it to a flash drive. Once copied, I install Kodi on other Fire TV's and then copy over the backup onto them, load the addon, and click "restore". And boom bada bing, I have everything just like my original Fire TV. EXCEPT, for a few things like skin settings, like widgets, and RSS feeds, and subtitle options.
The easiest way to do it is to copy the addons folder and your user data folder to you PC using ES Fle Explorer. install any varient of XBMC/Kodi on the other Fire TV sticks and open XBMC/Kodi one time so that it sets up the data folder contained inside Android/data. So this is basically all you need to do
1)Install XBMC/Kodi on all your devices and open one time.
2)Install Filezilla on your PC and ES File Explorer on all of your devices.
3)Open ES File Explorer on the device that already has Kodi setup, and go to the Network tab and click on remote manager and turn it on
4)Now type in the IP address and port into Filezilla that it shows on ES File Explorer and navigate to Android/data and find the data folder for your version of Kodi.
5)Once there simply copy over the addons folder and the userdata folder to yor PC.
6)Once those two folders are copied to your PC, simply go to each of the other devices and connect to ES File Explorer and overwrite the addons and userdata folders with the ones you just downloaded to your PC and restart Kodi on each device.
When you turn on the remote manager in ES file Explorer it will give you an address like this ftp://192.168.0.105:3721, the numbers 192.168.0.105 will be the address you type into Filezilla and the port will be 3721. I am sure your IP will be different so use the numbers that ES File Explorer shows and not the ones I used as an example. Also, when you go into the remote manager in ES File Explorer it will say settings at the bottom, if you click on that it will say set root directory, that means that when you connect with Filezilla that the directory you set will be the directory that it shown first from your Fire TV. So if its set to SDCARD, when you connect to filezilla you would just navigate to wherever you need to go just like you would inside ES File Explorer if you were in the SDCARD directory.
Just a reminder if you are logged into Youtube or any other addon, when you copy your Kodi setup to another device it will be logged in on that device as well. So if you do not want people doing things on your account you will need to log out before or after copying to other devices.
Download adbfire and do a Backup. Then connect the others Fire TVs and do a Restore with adbfire. That Backup folder that gets created can be used to copy everything to as many fire TVs.
How do I jailbreak my fire stick? I just purchased it today.
What have I done wrong, connect to device press backup and get an error ' media center not installed'
speed ?
How fast does everyone get with this method ? I got only 5-6 Mbit/s when doing restore or backup .
How to Prune
I am looking into copying all the kodi addons and such from one firestick to another. How would i go about using the texturecache.py that you suggested.
You have to first install Kodi in the new Fire Stick before restoring the backup
hey i have been trying this today but when i try to restore the backup to another stick it just says wrong backup folder type or something??

Heres another method -
Add the source Xfinity if you haven't already & install there repo (if you dont know how to add a source in kodi google it), install the Usb/Sd card backup add on inaddon, configure the backup location of your choice (aftv backup or name it what ever you wanna call it), then start the add on & select backup of your choice (full = is everything, addons = just the addons), wait, once finished put your backup on the new device then add source Xfinity on the new device, configure location Again, open add on & select restore, sometimes it hangs a while but works good, if using a different skin once you restored It change to the skin you were using, then restore again (sometimes it don't all stick first go), any backgrounds need to be loaded on if the location of the pics are on the root of the device? & note if it hangs on a 100% completion just force close using the select circle button & play/pause buttons held down for about 6seconds. Enjoy your new backup copy on your other device.

**TESTED & WORKING** How to move Kodi v16.0 to External SD CARD on Samsung Galaxy S7

**TESTED & WORKING** How to move Kodi v16.0 to External SD CARD on Samsung Galaxy S7
**NO ROOT REQUIRED**
It took me a few hours to figure this out, but I finally found the solution.
First, download Kodi from the Play Store, then run the app. This will create the '.kodi' file that's needed to move later. Next check your external sdcard to see if the folder 'org.xbmc.kodi' has been created inside /Android/data
*This Must be here in order for this to work*
Next, follow the general steps outlined here http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=262421
ensuring that you make adjustments to the 'xbmc_env.properties' file as follows:
xbmc.data=/storage/<your external sdcard filename>/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files
Again, ensure your file path corresponds to your root sdcard path.
(I personally created a text file from a Windows PC using Notepad. I imported it, then used ES File Explorer to remove the '.txt' extension.)
Once you move the '.kodi' folder to /storage/<your external sdcard filename>/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files , clear the app's cache from Application Manager. Restart Kodi, it may be dark briefly, then show the first run graphic.
You're done.
Also, if you need to download movies, etc from within Kodi, ensure that the file save location is inside the same path /storage/<your external sdcard filename>/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files
I have personally tested that downloads are successful to this path.
