Same phone, same issue.
I can't switch to fastboot using buttons. VolDown+Power brings me to recovery. Recovery acts strangely: VolUp is mapped to Enter, Power is mapped to "No command".
Fastboot can be entered using "adb reboot bootloader". However, it doesn't display menu and doesn't support "oem get_identifier_token" command, so I don't know if it is locked or unlocked, and can't proceed with unlocking instructions.
I found root tutorial + tool for 820S at htcui.com/5553.html
However, it is in Chinese.
Hey use king root to root the device
Sent from my HTC Desire 820s dual sim using XDA Free mobile app
Any other new ideas? King root and the Chinese app didn't work
Sad. This phone is marginalized. I don't think we'll ever get to root it
Have you guys tried kingoroot? It is different from king root. I had rooted my 820s without a problem.

If I may ask. Did you root your phone with the Android or PC kingo root app?
I'm using the PC version. Download it from kingoapp.com, install it then you're good to root!.

Yes, mine is 820s dual sim. Maybe they still do not make exploit for 820s lollipop roms.
One might wonder how one click root app like kingoroot functions. Here's the answer.
Would you backup your rom for me when you have achieved root? I highly appreciate it.
Anyone tried this?

Here you go. (I tweaked the status bar and nav bar with gravitybox and xstana)
No, I have not installed custom recovery yet. Most of the recoveries are for snapdragon, I cannot do anything with that. I was thinking of flashing the whole rom using sp flashtool for mediatek. Since theres no hboot, there's no need to unlocking the bootloader right and we can flash rom straight away. Or am I wrong?

I hope it comes soon for you or you might look for the lollipop version if it's available and flash it with sp falshtool.
About the bootloader, I'm not sure but I think there's a risk of bricking the device if you flash recovery on an unlocked bootloader

Hello guys, I recently bought Htc desire 816 dual sim mobile from Dubai. I unlocked the bootloader via htc to root that device and in the process I bricked my phone. I am unable to find the stock rom anywhere on internet and for a surprise, I couldnt find this phone model on htc website. Can anyone please help bringing my device alive ?
Although I managed to get the cwm recovery installed on mobile, I couldnt find rest of the files needed to boot the system normally. It keeps on going to cwm recovery only instead of booting to the normal screen. Pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase help me with the stock rom (not chinese though)

but all the files on the internal sd card seems to have wiped and I am unable to get my homescreen at all. Instead all the reboots are going to cwm recovery only. I tried to boot into fastboot mode with no luck too It is randomly going into fastboot/hboot mode.

Yeah, that was my last resort, but again everything there is in chinese and not sure if it is dual sim version or not. So it is risky again. Btw, this has only Sense 5.5 and not 6 But better than having nothing though.
Vbrsekhar, have u tried sense 5.5 rom?
Sent from my HTC Desire 816 dual sim using Tapatalk
I don't want to install the Chinese rom as I can't read Chinese and although many bits are in english, some Chinese apps and other pop ups annoyed me much and so waiting for a proper English version. It is ok if I can get only Sense 5.5 rom from anyone but English dual sim version is important. Sense 6 would be great if available.
Ps: I screwed up my mobile again with kingsense2 as I now lost my recovery too. I probably will have to install it again.

Hi everyone, I searched for a solution to this problem since yesterday, but without any success so far.
My situation is the following:
I bought a HTC 816G (MT6592) with no rom installed. Only thing accessible is CWM recovery.
When I want to charge the phone, it shows a battery icon idicating that it's being charged and then reboots and shows it again. It does this over and over again with seemingly no progress in the charging process.
When I unplug it and try boot it normally, it shows a "Mi.com" icon, but then reboots again and again.
The only thing I can do is booting to recovery. Even though it does not seem to be charing, I can still operate the recovery mode without it being plugged in to a charger.
In the recovery it says "rua1 CWM v.5.5.0.4 for HTC Desire 816G d" at the top of the screen and "CWM automade 03.01.2016 01:12:51" at the bottom of the screen.
From there I tried installing roms which either failed to install or did not boot up properly after successful installation.
In the recovery menu under "advanced" and then "show log" it says:
ro.hardware=mt6592
ro.revision=0
ro.emmc=0
sys.usb.vid=0BB4
init.svc.recovery=running
sys.usb.config=mass_storage.adb
service.adb.root=1
init.svc.adbd=restarting
sys.usb.state=mass_storage.adb
I appreciate any advice, I just want to have this phone operational.
Many thanks in advance

Don't have your version 816, mine is the single SIM Qualcomm version so I'm sorry I can't be of more help to you but one word of warning. I believe the 816g is the Mediatek processor not the Snapdragon and some of the methods and advice you get might not take that into consideration. From what I've learned some things work the same but a lot do not, I.E. rooting procedures. Just be careful and verify compatibility with your device before flashing anything not 816g specific.

We solved the problem. Since there is an mk-chip installed and vollnoob was having trouble with a bootloop, the only solution to flash is removing the backcover and disconnecting the battery, since flashtool won't work unless the device is turned completely off.
Normal 816 roms won't work either, since there is no way to flash a 816 Rom using mkdroidtools.
We used this rom for MT6592 chipset.

Did you try KingRoot? (Not kingO) It worked fine with mine K420N.
Yes. Didn't get even close, even with OEM unlocked mode in dev settings.
ive used kingroot to root mines which it did but the thing is after installing L speed and Root booster i ended up with a Boot verifcation fail, i don't know exactly whether or not the problem was caused by Kingroot or by the other two apps

I just got my new K10 and iRoot did not work, so I tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/debloater-remove-carrier-bloat-t2998294 and it can at least disable the applications, so root is not so badly needed.

You got it wrong bro most of LG devices specially those running on Android M doesn't support "one click root". Lg K10 can be root by using adb, twrp, and super su package. Using commands in cmd will play a major role.

I downloaded the most popular one (http://forum.xda-developers.com/desire-820/general/htc-desire-820-root-easily-t2913064) and didn't realise it wouldn't work with Lollipop.
