Hi guys I need some information regarding to How to root, flash Custom ROMS, flash various Recoveries and if I want to revert back to full stock ROM whenever I want to how will I do it?
My device model is SGH-I747M (Rogers Carrier) and I've updated it to the latest OTA update 4.4 KitKat
I've seen may threads regarding to the SGH-I747 but all are for AT&T carrier but not any single for the Rogers carrier why?
Do you have any warranty left on your phone? Flashing a custom recovery will trip the warranty counter and change it from 0 to 1.

I haven't rooted/flashed nothing on my phone yet. All I'm just asking the question bro and yea I don't have any warranty for it
The easiest way to root, in my opinion, is to flash a custom recovery in Odin. After flashing a custom recovery, boot into recovery, flash supersu, boot the phone, allow supersu to update and disable knox. Then boot back into recovery, create a nandroid backup, and flash a custom ROM for the d2lte.
To flash back to stock, you can restore your nandroid backup or flash a stock ROM from sammobile.com. Just make sure to match the sammobile.com ROM with your bootloader.
The big difference between the i747 (AT&T) and the i747M (various Canadian carriers) is the bootloader and modem. They are NOT interchangeable between the i747 and the i747M. I haven't seen any of the custom ROMs for these SGS3s that flash bootloader and modem. Therefore any of the custom ROMS for the i747 will work with the i747M. Custom TouchWiz based ROMs are safe to use.
If the instructions for installing a ROM say that you must be on the NE4 or NJ1 bootloader and modem, the equivalent for the Rogers i747M are (NDx?), NF2, and NKx. From your original post I believe you are on the NKx bootloader and modem pair. This is good for any of the Kitkat and Lollipop ROMs. The only catch is that the updater-scripts for some of the older KK ROMs may not recognize the newest bootloader and modems. The ROMs are still good, it just takes a bit of work to get them installed. The same extra work would actually allow you to run a JellyBean (4.3) ROM.
Stock ROMs, those designed to return your device to factory condition (+/- root and +/- custom recovery), require much more care.
If you ever need to return to stock for your i747M, DO NOT flash a ROM that will down grade your modem and bootloader. Downgrading the bootloader and modem once you are at, or past, the 4.3.x versions will brick the i747 and I have read it will do the same for the i747M. If you can not find a stock ROM in the forums for the i747M you can find them at sammobile.com.
There are some stock ROMs available in the forums that include the AT&T bootloader and modem. DO NOT flash/install any of these.
There are stock ROMs for the i747 in the forum that do not contain bootloader and modem. These are safe for you, but BE CAREFUL. You do not want to mistakenly try to install one that does have the bootloader and modem
Also, do not flash a modem that does not match your bootloader in version number. This did not matter prior to the 4.3 bootloader and modem, it has ever since.

I've got a Galaxy S3 I747 it is currently running 4.1.1, I747UCDLK3 Baseband. I'm not exactly a noob when it comes to flashing and rooting, I know my way around CWM and Odin pretty well. But I have a few questions on this 4.3 OTA. (I am a forum noob)
-Will I still be able to root? (I heard CF works for it)
-Can I install CWM? (Is the Bootloader locked??)
-Will I be be able to I flash other roms than the 4.3 TW like CM11Snapshot? (Is the bootloader locked?)
-What the h*ll is knox and why should I be worried?
-What is with the boot loader downgrading thing? (Have to do with locked bootloader??)
I AM NOT AT ALL WORRIED ABOUT A FLASH COUNTER OR VOIDING A WARRANTY I AM NOT ON A CONTRACT . I JUST DO NO WANT TO HARD BRICK MY PHONE.
If you take the OTA 4.3 update, it will install Knox and the 4.3 bootloader.
The 4.3 bootloader cannot be downgraded and attempts to do so will probably brick the phone.
You can root the stock 4.3 ROM with auto root but Knox may interfere with the process of cause issues after the fact.
You can still install CWM. I rrefer Philz Touch which is CWM-based.over TWRP.
So can I still flash roms?

Yes, you can flash ROMs. Is your phone unlocked? Since you're on 4.1.1 stock, you can unlock it for free.
Personally, I avoided the 4.3 update because it installs knox and the 4.3 bootloader which can cause problems when using Odin to get back to stock.
I have a Canadian version of the s3 and I'm able to run KK ROMs with a stock 4.1.2 bootloader.

Unlocked as in Bootloader? Yeah I've been able to flash roms via CWM and Odin on 4.1.1 and as in Carrier unlocked? Yes I use Straight Talk on this ATT S3
If I got the 4.3OTA I wouldn't need Odin to go back stock if I flashed a ROM would I? I could just make a back up via CWM then restore later if I wanted right rather than using ODIN?
See I can't use KK roms because I have the 4.1.1 BL so is there a way I can upgrade my boot loader to the 4.1.2 version??
Would I lose my carrier unlock if I upgraded to 4.3 or if I upgrade my bootloader??
I suggest downloading a ROM you want to try, then unzip the ROM and look at the updater script to see which bootloaders are supported. The updater-script file is located in \META-INF\com\google\android\updater-script. You can use a text editor to open the updater-script file.
The first few lines will list the bootloaders that are supported. I run Validus which is a KK ROM using a stock 4.1.2 i747m bootloader.
Do you know about this > "If I got the 4.3OTA I wouldn't need Odin to go back stock if I flashed a ROM would I? I could just make a back up via CWM then restore later if I wanted right rather than using ODIN?"
Also couldn't I just upgrade my Bootloader and Modem from here?

I feel like if I upgrade my boot loader then I won't have to worry about restrictions.
Would I lose my carrier unlock if I upgraded to 4.3 or if I upgrade just my bootloader??
I ended up flashing the MG2 Modem and Bootloader, I'm good now, also if I want 4.3 I saw loserskater has a leak version that will be good and wont not let me downgrade my bootloader.
Is it possible to install a stock ROM once 4.3 and a locked bootloader is in place. I've looked all over and I seem to read conflicting stories. So...
I have a Samsung S3 Telus (AT&T) version running the latest 4.3 as of May1st, my bootloader is locked and I have a tripped flash counter.
If someone actually posts a I747MVLUEND2 rooted image can I flash it?
Can I flash an older version I747MVLUEM series?
Oh yeah my phone is NOT rooted.

I think you didn't understand the question. You pointed me to a thread about unlocking.
With a 4.3 bootloader, you will need to install a custom recovery to flash ROMs. If you want to restore a stock 4.3 ROM, try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658486
With a 4.3 bootloader, you cannot use Odin to flash a stock ROM unless that ROM was specifically compiled for flashing via Odin.
No this is not possible. I have a LOCKED boot loader. I can't flash a custom recovery as far as I know.
Also how would one know a ROM is made to be flashed by Odin even if it was possible? Maybe I missed something here.
I re-read your original post and I'm a bit confused. You have a Telus s3 (i747m) or AT&T s3 (i747)?
I have never heard of an s3 having a locked bootloader. All of the phones with a stock 4.3 ROM have a bootloader that cannot be downgraded.

Sorry, I have a Telus I747M.
It seems all AT&T and Telus S3's have a locked boot loader after the upgrade to 4.3. This means you cannot flash CWM recovery to the phone anymore.
So, I beleive I can't fix it to put CWM recovery on but I may be able to flash a stock rom, I'm just not sure at this point what I can do. Based on your response it is not surprising I'm confused, there seems to be a LOT of conflicting information.
There are some stock ROMS that have already been rooted and I'm hoping I can flash one of those without bricking my phone.

sir, the one who got the wrong idea is you
the only S3 with locked bootloader is the verizon version
i747/M doesn't regardless of which version
which occurs to me that you might have done something wrong trying to root your device
though i've never tried this tool to root but many people succeeded rooting their phone with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963790
so try it out
but again, you said to flash a stock rom... you can do it via Kies(is that how it is called? it had been so long since i last used it) or you can just use ODIN to flash it
Regardless of the subject of that thread, the posts I indicated directly speak to your 747m downgrade question.

Can understand why some may be confused about the question. If you have stock 4.3 already (which is the latest version available), why would you want to flash another stock ROM? If you are talking about flashing an older stock ROM, yes it is possible, and there have been several posts on how you can successfully downgrade the system only without altering the bootloader. Attempting to downgrade the bootloader will, of course, cause a brick so downgrading ROM only is a rather complicated process that should be attempted only if there is a very worthwhile reason for this. So far, there are very few arguments, if any, for downgrading from 4.3 to any older stock ROM version. If you are trying to flash a rooted version of the same stock, you need to be sure it's one with the same bootloader. You may, however, find it easier simply keeping the current system and rooting via Safe Root. You can, however, flash a custom ROM if it won't attempt to mess with your bootloader . As far as recovery goes, even if you have stock 4.3, you can still flash custom recovery via Odin or other prescribed installation route. I'm not aware of 4.3 preventing the flashing of a custom recovery. I have an AT&T i747 with stock 4.3 and I've flashed custom recovery several times.

So when my bootloader says Qualcomm secure boot = 1, that means what exactly?
I haven't tried to root my phone yet.
Well actually it's a stock ROM that has been rooted. As per this page:

I think that means secure booting has been enabled. Secure booting has nothing to do with having a locked bootloader. From what I have read in other forums, a locked bootload would not allow you to load a custom kernel.
I just bought an AT&T S3 to replace a carrier unlocked T-Mobile S3. The new device is already rooted with CM11 installed and it's baseband is MG2. I'll need to revert back to stock temporarily to do a carrier unlock. Here are my questions:
What is a safe TW (preferrably a pre-rooted TW) I can flash to perform the carrier unlock?
After I'm carrier unlocked, what is the latest modem I can install? I want to do all of this without enabling knox.
Thanks to all in advance,
Niphoet
Flashing back to stock means everything will be wiped on the phone, including recovery and data.
You can use Odin to flash the stock ATT 4.1.1 firmware from sammobile.com. Before doing so, boot into download mode and make sure you there is nothing about warranty bit on the screen.

There ae several important things to know about upgrading your modem and firmware.
1) KNOX comes with all of the firmware since the officlal 4.3 release, MJB. The leaked version of the 4.3 release (MJ2) does not have KNOX.
2) Once on the MJB and later firmware you can no longer downgrade, you will most probably brick your phone.
3) It is possible to run the MJ2 firmware/bootloader and MJB modem combination on 4.3 and 4.4.x ROMs.
4) The MJ2 and MJB bootloader will most likely require a custom kernel if you use it on 4.4.x ROMs. Something like the kToonez kernel or iBuddler kernel found in Likewise.
5) Once you get past the 4.3 firmware do not mix firmware and modem release versions, again bricks are probably. If you have NE4 firmare, use the NE4 modem. The same goes for for if you have the NE4 modem, use the NE4 bootloader. This holds true for NH2, NJ1, and NKx.
6) The only time I have seen that you absolutely must be on NE4 or newer is for the Lollipop ROMs.
i have rooted and unlocked galaxy s3(i don't know if it is t999 or i747)the imei and boatloader are for t999 and the android build is i747mvldlk4 4.1.1 official rom and i want to flash new rom but i don't know what i have to flash (t999 roms or i747)please help me....
What does it day in download mode? What about the baseband/modem version?
Best way to know for sure is to install terminal emulator and enter this:
getprop ro.bootloader
You may simply have a T999 running on an I747 based rom. The two are very compatible when it comes to custom roms.
Since it sounds like you are on pretty old firmware, you will probably need to fully update it before flashing a newer rom. Just remember to only flash firmware for your model device. So if it's a T999 do not flash I747 firmware. Once updated you can then flash custom roms from either device.
(Also check the sticker under the battery to see what model it says)
baseband:t999uvdmd5 and modem board is msm8260a
What about the bootloader?
boatloader:t999uvdmd5
And just for good measure, check the sticker under the battery.
You are currently running on T999 base firmware with an I747 based rom, so you can be pretty certain you've got a T999 model.
You'll want to flash one of the two latest firmwares for the T999. (NC2 or OH1 if I'm remembering correctly) (note that some roms may not flash on the newest OH1 firmware if they have been updated recently, so you may want to go with NC2 to make things a little easier for now.)
After flashing your firmware, flash a custom recovery and then from the recovery flash your choice of rom.
Hope that helps and good luck!
thanks so much for help....but i want to ask about the files which i need to download when i flash nc2 firmware please(do i need to download any files for modem and kernel or this files are downloaded automatially with the firmware file??
When you are dealing with firmware, it includes everything, unless otherwise stated. Download and unzip the firmware package. Then flash the .tar.md5 file with Odin. Back up data first of course, just in case.
Doing this will give you a fully updated, stock, unrooted device. Reroot using Towel root, or flash recovery then a rom if you choose.
If you haven't already, I suggest reading the first few posts of my firmware thread (sticky in dev section). There's already a lot explained there.
does flashing t999uvuenc2 relock my mobile network..and if that will happens what can i do to unlock without code
Once the phone has been unlocked via code or the free method, the phone should remain unlocked after flashing ROMs.
Yup, the unlock is permanent. You can safely flash firmware, roms, etc.
ihave flashed cm12.1 d2tmo on my t999.but the features of camera like full HD video recording and face detecting were lost..can I restore them on this rom
I have a Canadian Galaxy S3, on 4.1.1 DLK4 Official. I rooted it, and have TWRP.
I want to upgrade my rom to a CM12/13 but of course with root and custom recovery, OTA updates are blocked.
I need newer bootloaders and modem to run the newer android versions.
Should I install them now, while on 4.1.1, and then flash CM12, or should I sequentially update each of the AT&T firmwares until I get up to 4.4.2?
Do official roms have the bootloaders and modems in them and install them automatically?
Should I use the Kies restore method?
The Canadian and att s3 phones are not the same model number. Don't flash an att bootloader to your Canadian phone as this may brick the phone.
Flash latest stock rom from Sammobile.com, flash twrp, flash cm.

Okay, but i can use AT&T roms tho?
The i747m will work with d2can, d2lte, and d2att Roms.
Is it safe to flash straight from 4.1.1 to 4.4.2 using a sammobile rom? will i brick due to Knox bootloader and modem?
Can I flash it using TWRP?
If someone could link a tutorial that would be very helpful.
I keep reading stuff that says to flash the newer bootloader before flashing a 4.3 firmware, and some that say the opposite. Others say that people should incrementally update.
I want to go from 4.1.1 original with Root and TWRP, to CM13.
Thank you.
Yes, you can flash the latest stock 4.4.2 rom from Sammobile.com directly to your phone. No need to do anything other than backing up your data.

Now I just need to get the balls again to use odin. Flashing the custom recovery using the Universal Tool Kit that had step by step walkthrough was adrenaline rush enough LOL.
I could also use Kies, as that has 4.4.2 OB3 (telus), and also has "emergency firmware recovery" feature if a brick ever happens. Though ideally the only time boot.img gets flashed is only with Full Stock Firmware files.
I find kies to be unreliable when I have tried to restore firmware so I always stuck with Odin.
