what you used for fingerprints? - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So far I've just used wet tissue to wipe my G3 and works every time. Is it bad for the screen if I keep using wet tissue? What do you use to clean fingerprints and smudges?

I rub it with my shirt like three time and its looks perfect with my temper screen guard!

Im using mat screen protector and my screen is without any fingerprints!

I actually always just wipe the screen on whatever trousers/jeans I am wearing.
The solution to this would be to get an oleophobic screen protector which I am currently researching. There is a thread here with reviews and suggestions.

I've found that a lightly textured microfiber cloth works best

Which screen protector is the easiest to wipe off finger oil?

Hello guys,
I've tried the SGP plastic screens, the SGP Glas, as well as a few generic screen protectors.
I have been using the Glas for the longest time, very happy with it until dust seeped in beneath the Glas, and it bothered me so much that I took it off today. The Glas was great because it was easy to wipe of the oils, one or two wipes with my shirt or pants (trousers) and my Glas is free of smudges.
Now that I have put a plastic screen protector on, I find it very hard to remove the oil smudges even after multiple wipes with a cotton fabric.
Just wondering if you guys have any suggestions, thank you!
even i am looking for something like this. Please suggest me a great screen protector!
tiny hint: microfiber cloth
I find the SGP Ultra Optics protector to be fairly good. There's a 99.9% reduction in finger print residue. I may clean it once every day or two with a lens cloth vs. many times daily with a naked screen. It looks and feels good.
I've used both Zagg Invisible shield and and IShieldz as well. These are both wet installs however. The Zagg was thicker and had texture, not unlike the appearance of brushed stainless steel, lots of parallel "scratches". I used this for a week before my first SGSII died. I wouldn't recommend the Zagg.
The Ishieldz was much smoother, thinner, looked better, and felt better. Alas my imperfect install got the better of me so I peeled it off. Not a fan of wet installs and these are more expensive than other options and they don't bring that much more to the table for the cost/hassle. If you don't mind a wet install, this is a good one.
Does the SGP Glas not form a perfect seal around its edge?
Thanks for the input! I have used invisble shield on non touch screen devices, which worked okay, not a huge fan of the texture, and how lint will collect around the edges and the screen turns yellow after a while.
The glas is completely sealed, I thought it was stuck on pretty well, but three months into using it, dust started showing by the masses. So perhaps egg e glue have out, and dust got inside. I liked the glas, but won't buy another because if this.
I think I will buy the sgp optics, cheaper and everyone says it is good. Thanks!
I do have a micro fibre cloth, but I don't want to have to carry it everywhere. The great thing about the glas was that smudges were super easy to wipe off, and the screen had more clarity because of that. Basically, everytime I put the phone in my pocket, the pocket fabric cleans the screen. Pretty cool.

Copter display protection
It's a ***** to "assemble" nicely (like all other flimsy protectors), but it's easy to keep clean.
You can even wipe away smears with your fingers!!
Give it a try!

3M Estoc+ is nice

I think gs2 without screen protector is what we need .its perfect n its girilla glass .you wont scrach it
Matte screen protectors are in general easy to wipe oil off of. I'm currently using Power Support Matte and all that's needed is a few swipes of a microfiber cloth and the screen is grimeless again. 3M Estoc+ is pretty good too, from what I've heard!

I use a screen protector to keep my greasy paw prints off. As mentioned above a matte protector is ideal for this. I agree that a freshly cleaned screen without a protector looks best UNTIL you touch it.

The SGP oleophobic screen protector is a good one! I've used it on all my phones, still waiting for mine to arrive for my SGS2!!!

I used it for a while and then removed it after a few weeks. The coating doesn't last long. Markings get more and more difficult to wipe off after some usage.
is there any kind of greace-resistant polishes or sprays for screen protectors? miss my fingerprint free screen that i had before putting on the protector...

Rain-X is a popular solution on just the bare glass.

[Q] Cleaning the screen

The A100 seems to pick up smudges more than anything else I own.
My phone, which is smaller but otherwise looks nearly identical and shares a Gorilla Glass screen, doesn't pick up fingerprints nearly as easily nor obviously.
I've tried cleaning with an eyeglass cleaner (which works great on the phone), a drop of liquid hand soap and others and nothing seems to be a particularly good solution.
I've generally use a soft microfiber cloth, although I've experimented carefully with cotton terry and soft paper.
Has anyone found anything that cleans well and perhaps resists smudges?
Ever tried a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and distilled water? That and a paper towel picks up oils very well, and if you don't douse the paper towel with the solution leaves it nice and shiny. Nothing I can think of which resists smudges, at least not until the Max Planck institute manages to make that soot-derived coating work.
I use a foaming automotive glass cleaner and a paper towel.
The smudges were bothering me terribly, too, until I added a GreatShield matte screen protector a couple of months ago. Since then, reflections are greatly diminished, and smudges a thing of the past.

Got the same thing, works great. Definitely reduced glare, and much less fingerprints showing after use. I normally just use a slightly damp microfiber cloth to wipe when I need to.
Thanks for the replies.
Even though the screen is Gorilla Glass, I didn't think of using an actually glass cleaner. Too much Plexiglas in my life, I guess.
I found one automotive cleaner/shiner in my garage that works okay, but ordered the matte GreatShield today. I'm just hoping I can get it on cleanly without dust underneath.
I've been disappointed with skins on my phone. (Clarivue and Zagg were two brands that were both a waste of money with inferior products and poor customer service.)
Screen cleaner
I use Monster cleaner the I got from Best Buy.
Cleans really nice, cuts down the glare and finger smudges are kept at bay for days.
i use Endust LCD and Plasma wipes
i wipe off the excess moisture with whatever those little screen cleaning rags are called
it gets my screen squeaky clean

Yep LCD pannel cleaner spray and a micro-fiber towel works well to clean it(untill you touch it again). Though I would say in the long run a shield that keeps it from getting smudged in the first place seems like the best solution.

i agree a screen protector is a must
Will be buying a screen protector this weekend, feel like it's time, haven't used a screen protector since like 09 on my dark iPhone days.
I clean mine with household polish, the stuff that says is fine for electronics and glass, it leaves a pretty good friction free finish - I've tried alsorts on my tablet to keep it clean, Brasso gadget clean, LCD panel stuff, generic gadget cleaning stuff. Turns out bog standard polish is the best for me

I have found this microfiber cloth to work very well:
http://www.simplygoodstuff.com/microfiber_lens-cloths.htm
I wet the corner of the cloth with water and wipe once with the wet end. Then I do a few quick wipes with the dry end the screen is like new.

Tips on Screen Protector Installs

I just recently got the Mini Guard protector 3 pack for like 10 bucks. I've never put a tablet protector on, and I've had issues with phone protectors, so I'm concerned.
How can I go about this so that I don't waste all three? Should I use tape to remove dust? Install with a hot shower running?
Also they gave me a two inch "tool" (squeegee thing) to install it... It is phone screen sized, so I doubt I can use it to help me. Why not give a wider one? Weird.
Thanks in advance everyone!

Well I no good like so i always take it to my local mobile shop who is used to installing this day in and day out and pay him some extra bucks.
To all those who say do it with hot shower running isnt that bad for your device if moisture can gather on the screen it will also on the other parts of the device which could harm it right ??

Having a hot shower running might be useful, but I don't think it's necessary. I've always just installed screen protectors for my phone in my room (which is fairly dusty) and it came out perfect every time.
I suggest either wrapping a bit of tape around one of your fingers or putting some at the back of a pen. When you put the screen protector on, don't peel the bottom layer away all at once. Peel off a little bit (maybe like an inch), then put it on your screen (which should be PRISTINE - if there's a single speck of dust then blow/wipe it off, your room should be bright) and then lay down the entire screen protector to see if the other end aligns properly. If it doesn't, then you can just lift it up easily and realign the sticky edge. Once you're satisfied with the alignment, peel off the rest of the plastic while using the squeegee to push down the protector as you go. If you hit a dust particle (which will be visibly apparent as a bubble with a tiny dot in the middle), lift up the protector and use your tape finger/pen to remove it (if the dust is on the protector). If the dust is on the screen, just blow or wipe it off, and avoid touching the screen itself with the tape, as this might leave residue that is hard to remove. Also, avoid touching the protector with any sort of cloth you may use to wipe the screen as this will leave a bunch of dust on the protector that will piss you off to no end. If you hit a normal air bubble (with no dust), you can ignore it if you want, as you can use the squeegee to remove it later.
Good luck!
Thanks a lot! Great tips. I'm gonna take the dive and try it soon.

I've got the MiniGuard matte finish protector on my 8013. Chose it for dry install and anti-glare reasons. Only prep I did was to clean the screen with glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth. After that, just follow the instructions...no special room, running shower, etc needed for success.

I like it alot. I had put a dry install, non-glare matte on my Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus previously to make reading outdoors easier. With the Note I was also concerned with using the S-Pen on the bare screen. The Note's S-Pen and this screen protector seem to "play nice" together.

Cleaning the M8

Does anyone use wipes or what can you recommend to clean the M8,usually just wipe it with my t-shirt but surely there's got to be a better way to clean this phone?

Same here maybe once a week full clean out of the case. With a tempered screen protector only need to clean screen maybe once every three days. I just use a generic LCD cleaner spray from radio shack or wherever to clean the entire device and microfiber cloth or regular hand towel. With no screen protector and this device having latest gorilla glass protection, micro fiber cloth is a little over the top but to each their own.
After I clean I also use compressed air to get anything out of the open ports and speaker holes.
I've a tempered screen protector and very good it is too but is prone to smudging on the screen.

Question About Oleopbobic Coating and Screen Protectors

My new Fold 2 is arriving today. I intend to remove the main screen factory protector. I've read about people's experience with replacing the screen protector and it seems that unless using matte protector (which I do not want to do for now), fingerprints remain an issue.
My question is has anyone tried applying an oleopbobic coating to a clear TPU protector? Is this possible? I'm looking at possibly the Orzero protector and something like the following:

Thanks ahead of time.
Sounds like a great idea. Definitely interested in knowing the experience of others who may have tried this. Personally, I do not recommend you remove your inner display protector until you have another one immediately to apply. The standard one installed by Samsung feels gross and all, however it is still projecting the screen from scratches...
I went ahead and removed the main screen protector and applied the above oleophobic coating. Easy application and a relatively short cure time. So far, I'm very happy with the results, although it's difficult to tell how much impact it had given the screen presumably may have some coating already. Maybe not since it's not glass?
Early results seem very good as I am not noticing very many fingerprints at all and they are very easily wiped away with a soft microfiber cloth. Time will tell about durability and I will report back with my results.
The above kit also had plenty left to apply to the outer screen with a factory screen protector. The application seemed identical although again I'm not sure if it actually bonded or not. Likewise, I'm not noticing many fingerprints and they are easily removed. Will report back on this as well.
So far so good.
It's nearly worthless as it's only a couple of microns thick at the best. Thickness matters.
No impact protection whatsoever and very little scratch or marring protection regardless of the claims.
Liquid Glass works on cars after about 3-5 coat/ cure cycles as it bonds to its self and builds in thickness. At around 5 coats it might be 1-2 mils thick. Resembles a clear coat at that point and adds a degree of protection more so than wax.
One coat does nothing.
Even it's no substitute for any type of clear tape of even the thinness mil thickness.
Thanks for the reply. I'm not using it as a protective coat but for the anti-fimgerprint qualities.

For that it will work.
It will be interesting to see have long it lasts. The dry skin of the fingers and palms can actually polish glass, it is abrasive.

How long have you been using your phone this way? Just curious if you've seen any scratches on your screen? I switched out the screen protector and while it is definitely smoother the the factory one, I still long for a smooth glass like feel and am very tempted to go protector free.
Only about 5 days so far but I love it. Of course, I can't speak to the !ong-term yet. I'm pretty careful (famous last words, right?). I avoid wiping it with anything but a microfiber cloth or a double plush microfiber towel (the kind I use on my car). I love the double plush towel because I can clean the screen in about 2 seconds. BUT, it's too big to pocket obviously. I'm actually on the lookout for some kind of small plush towel that can fit in my pocket lol.
Thus far, no scratches at all.

It's easy enough to reapply as needed
Microfiber clothes are all I use. Been using them to dry wipe optics for well over a decade.
Any other material is likely to cause scratches sooner or latter...
