Micro-sd card usage - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I purchased a 64gb Samsung evo microsd card for my tab S 10.5 16GB.
I am currently on the bliss ROM lollipop and cannot move any apps to the microsd card , I just get the error 'cannot move app'.
I am rooted and have tried all the apps like app2sd, etc. But none work for me, is it even possible?
Currently the format is ext4 unsure if this is the problem, when I received the card I got the same error although unsure if the card was ntfs or fat32.
Any help would be appreciated .
Thanks
James

go to the playstore and download SDfix Kitkat. I had the same issue on my stock kitkat rom (rooted) and this fixed the permissions so that all apps can read/write the ext sd. There have also been reports that this app works on Lollipop based rom such as CM12. make sure the card is formatted for exFat, not NTFS

Magic, worked a treat cheers!

[Q] Android 4.2.x - Unable to mount NTFS SD Card under /storage/XXX

Fellow n7100 owners and Devs. I have a large 64GB NTFS formatted SD card, for various reasons I need to use NTFS and not FAT, FAT32 or ex_FAT.
For some time I have been happily using the Paragon NTFS mounting program to automatically mount my external SD card on /storage/sdcard1 and it has been working well. That is unit I upgraded to a ROM that uses Android 4.2.X!
The reason for this seems to be that Android 4.2 breaks Dalvik-apps that mount file systems to be shared with other apps. [email protected]!!! See the post below for more details.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2106480
My questions is... Does anyone know of another way round this? I need my NTFS formatted card mounted as /storage/sdcard1 else it breaks a lot of other things for me.
Are there any 4.2.x roms that have been patched to cope with this change? My ROM of choice at the moment is JellyBam and I am currently stuck on version 4.1 because of this limitation. I could be persuaded to move to something else that would allow me to work around the issue.
Anyone????
Many thanks,
I downloaded & used a file called fat32format.exe on my 64 GB SD card. It was the only way I've found to use the card in my Note 2 GT-N7105 on a custom Rom.

what ext SD card formats are supported in CM10.1 ?

Hi all,
I have just flashed the latest cm release to my n2 (I was previously on a stock based ROM).
But cm won't recognise my SD card.
My SD card is a 64gb sandisk class 10.
I have tried formatting it to exfat, but the SD won't Mount, and I get a message saying the file system isn't supported.
I have also tried NTFS but I could only get it to mount with a third party app.
I would rather not use fat32, as I have files that are larger then 4gb.
Can anyone tell me which SD card file system types Cm 10.1 supports?.
And which do you guys think is the best format?.
Thanks in advance
Cheers
Corey
Well... Fat32, that's all as far as I remember . ExFat is for touchwiz only

One more time: no exFAT on AOSP based ROM.
The only solution atm is the following: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155363

System reboots when installing application with external SDXC

I am running CIVZ v3.5 ROM (4.2.2) with an external Toshiba 64GB SDXC card (exFAT format).
Every time I tried to update an app with Play Store, the system will reboot. If I install the apk instead, it will say insufficient memory. However, once I remove the external SDXC card, everything installs normally.
Is there anybody with a similar problem? Any suggestions to use the external SDXC card normally with Note 8.0? I tried formatting the card to FAT32, but it always say the card is corrupt and asks me to format (back to exFAT).
Thanks.
what if you unmount the card instead of removing it, before installing.
I am running a 64 Gig sdxc in exfat and do not have such issues.
however, Do you have a lot of apps moved: app > sd card ?
On One of my Older samsung devices similar used to happen when you moved more than a certain number of apps to sd card.
Solution was to slowly move few apps back to local memory until the problem went away. May or may not work for you though.
I don't have any apps moved to the external sd card. Sometimes the SD card would show up as 0GB under "storage."
I have checked for errors, but can't find any. Used h2testw and the card is indeed 64GB.
Hello, fellows! Please be so kind to inform whether there is an option for note 8 to switch the data between internal memory & sd-ext. Similar to this issue, but for note 8: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1857391
Found some manuals, but they all ask to flash the device with new rom. I would prefer to create sd-ext card via PC. Is it possible?
Any ways to use sd card as the apps storage place are of great demand!
Thank you all in advance! ,)

[Q] P601 64GB sdcard unwritable

Hi folks,
I recently got a 64 GB microsd card ( class 4) for my galaxy note 10.1 SM-P601 ( build:JSS15J.P601XXUBMJ9,Baseband601DDUBMJ1).
This card works fine when I use it on my laptop but I am unable to write it on the tablet.I am able to read the data though.
Below is the list of what I have already tried and failed.
1)I have tried rebooting,remounting reinserting
2) As the default format was exFAT I reformatted it into fat32 using fat32 formatter.
3) I tried partitioning the card on laptop into 2 32gb partitions and then using it on the tablet.
4) I have tried SD card accelerators from Play store.
Once I mount the sdcard it shows TOTAL SPACE: 62.5 GB in Settings->General->Storage.When ever I try to write the card it somewhat gets unmounted and shows TOTAL SPACE :0.0 bytes.
Please suggest a solution to make it work

Have you formated it in the GN 2014?
Also, I wouldn't use a Class 4.. Just my opinion.
Also, they have some bad 64gb cards out there.. I would get a name brand 64gb class 10 from BestBuy, Staples, etc.. Format it GN 2014. If everything works, then the problem was the sd card.
I have a Sandisk Ultra 64gb Class 10 in my GN 2014 and my Note 3.. both work perfectly.
Hi gurus,
The Idea is to make the the 64 gb card (that working fine on my laptop) work on my note 10.1.
Please help .
What could be the possible reason.

As you have tried several things, can you please tell us exactly what your situation is now so we can help you.
If the card is a used one, it may have been formatted as FAT32, to work in a non-Sdxc compatible device. The Sdxc capable note may boycott the card because of violation of the specs, so reformat it to exFat.
It was similar with 4GB SD cards, which shall not exist by spec, but worked fine in Sd devices, not in Sdhc ones.
Experiencing the same

Hi maainux, I'm experiencing the same problem here, have you found any solution?
Mine is a SM-P601 / Android 4.3 / Build: JSS15J.P601UBUBMJ4 / Baseband: P601UBUBMJ1 (Fully Stock)
I tried 3 64gb micro sd card: SanDisk Ultra, Samsung, and a generic one. For both 3 the same results, as following:
1 - If I let the tablet format the card (exFAT), it can be mounted but gets suddenly unmounted when I try to write on it and shows TOTAL SPACE :0.0 bytes just like yours. I installed BTSync, when I tried to configure the sync on the tabled by selecting the sd card as the destination folder for the files, the app give a message saying it don't have permission to access that folder and gets unmounted. Tried rebooting, remounting, reinserting, and nothing change.
2 - If I format to fat32 as a logical partition using Minitool Partition Wizard, I get the same behavior as above description.
3 - If I format to fat32 as a primary partition using Minitool Partition Wizard, I can create folders but can't delete them, when I try to delete via "My Files" it says "deletion failed". I tried ES File Explorer, get the same. I was able to configure BTSync, it can copy the files from my PC folder, but when I delete some file in the PC it can't be deleted on the tablet and the BTSync app shows a message stating it can't identify the destination folder on the tablet.
I have some micro sd cards laying around, tried SanDisk 32gb, 16gb and 8gb, both 3 worked flawlessly on the tablet. I noticed the tablet format any <32gb card as fat32, and the 64gb as exFat, this make me think that was related to file system format, but it's not. Seems something related to permissions, like the KitKat 4.4 guys are experiencing. The point is I'm completely newbie on Android and have ZERO knowledge on Linux/Unix, so I have no Idea on how to solve this.
Can you guys help me?
Thanks in advance.
Hi guys
