Touch issue - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It's a huge problem for me. I've noticed the touch problem occurs only in the middle part when I can see the touches.
It scrolls up and down by itself. touches many time that drives me crazy. It's not allowing me to do anything. And it happens randomly.
I have no screen protector. And I have tried disabling developer part, disabling knock, and factory reset. but no lock so far.

Touch screen stops working

I'm the [almost] happy owner of a Defy whose digitizer, from time to time, stops working or goes crazy.
The "goes crazy" part it's obvious and it only happens in Angry birds. The game keeps on zooming in and out like, beside the finger that I am putting on the screen, there's an invisible one that shifts on the screen. Seems to be app related as this doesn't seem to happen in any other app.
On the other hand, from time to time, the digitizer seems to stop out of nothing. I haven't noticed any particular pattern on this but it might be driver/app dependent too.
Both of these situations are resolved with a blanking of the screen (top button).
Does anybody else have this kind of problems? Any idea where is the problem?
PS: If I get any more patterns I'll get back.
Yes, very rarely. Screen will not respond and have to time out screen and then it's fine. Usually happens while on charger.
I have trouble with most multi-touch games. After a while, the screen stops responding. Sometimes if I release my touch temporarily it will work again, but by then I'm dead or have crashed Not sure if it's just my fingers sweating onto the screen or something!!
I tried the multi-touch tester app in the market, and it tracks two touches without a problem; so it only seems to happen during games.
eg
Gun Bros
Mini Squadron
The multitouch tester also does the bug. Just try to simulate playing in the tester and you'll see sometimes one finger not responding. But I think there are very few phones with perfect touch screen for playing games. So not a big bug for me.

Screen rotation lag

Has anyone else had a screen rotation issue on their Note 4?
In almost all apps, rotating from portrait to landscape or landscape to portrait has a very long delay. Usually at least 10 seconds, and sometimes not at all unless I tap the phone on a hard surface, and then it rotates.
That might suggest a sensor problem, except for 2 things that do work:
1) In camera mode, the buttons rotate instantly when I rotate the phone
2) In GPS status, which indicates phone orientation, it registers the screen rotation as roll in the pitch/roll display, although the GPS status screen does not rotate correctly either.
These seem to confirm that the actual sensor is working ok.
I've tried safe mode, clearing cache, closing all open apps. Nothing changes in the behavior. I also tried turning off SmartStay, and changing display mode.
Some hits I found suggested turning off "smart screen rotation" on the S5, but that setting doesn't seem to exist on the Note 4.
Has anyone had this problem and found a solution?

This is like a dead giveaway for a hardware problem.
Wow, 10 seconds is a looooonnnggg time for a screen rotation. I've never experienced this on my Note 4, so the only thing I can think of is talking to your carrier or Samsung themselves to ask about it. Sounds like a hardware failure to me.
Yeah, that does make it seem like a hardware problem. But like I said, the camera buttons rotate instantly every single time, with zero lag. That would seem to say the hardware is working, unless the camera uses a different sensor for rotation than the rest of the UI.
Also, my wife has the same issue with her Note 4. We got them at the same time, so maybe it's a problem with that batch.
Since we both have it, it seemed like it could be caused by some app we both have, but I thought booting in Safe Mode would eliminate that, as only stock apps run in Safe Mode.
I guess I could wipe the device completely and see if it resolves. If not, I'll take it in as a hardware problem.
After a full wipe and cache clear, it still has the same problem. I called Verizon, and they are shipping out a replacement phone.

Quick screen 'taps' register as 'drags' after screen replacement

Hi everyone.
I have recently had my screen replaced. After playing around, i quickly noticed that my keyboard screws up when i start typing.
The faster i type, the worse the problem is.
I checked touch response times and achieves normal times of about 60ms, however, i turned on touch overlay in developer settings and noticed that if i touch opposite sides of the screen quickly (to simulate typing), it would draw lines between the touches as if i was dragging between the two points.
This is what causes my keyboard to do funky stuff and heavily lag when typing fast.
Please note that this never happened before the screen replacement, and a hard reset didnt fix the problem.
Is there any software fix for this, or do i need another screen?
thanks.

I mainly work on iPhones, but it sounds like your digitizer is out of calibration. Don't know if there's a software fix for it, but hopefully this will point you in the right direction. Also I'd take it back to the place you had it repaired and see if they can fix if it's still warrantied.

Ghost touches in pocket? [Proximity sensor issue]

Anyone think that perhaps the proximity sensor of this device doesn't work always?
After using my phone if I put it in my pocket without locking I expect that it will not register ghost/accidental touches but I don't think the phone handles that very well. Often when I pull out the phone I can see some random screen got opened.
Are others also facing this issue?

Not random screen opening but once i remove it out of my pocket i get a warning screen saying accidental touch protection is on or something.
Or sometimes a clock, the one on the lock screen where you just tap on it and it zooms in the clock.
Have you turned ON the Accidental Touch Protection? I initially had Ghost Touch problems during jogging but with the change of placement of the phone, i now dont have the problem. Make sure that the screen faces the pocket side not the thigh side. Most of the ghost touches happen while interaction with the thigh.

The setting was already on. Anyway I toggled it off and on again just in case. Making the phone face outwards in the pocket may work as a suggestion, but it still probably implies that the phone is not doing a good job in blocking these accidental touches. I also like the screen inwards in case I hit a table edge or something.
The other setting I did is to ensure the phone locks itself quickly after the screen goes off. Earlier I had it at a higher value and its possible the device was switching on to an unlocked state. This is working a little but in my old devices I recall I was able to pocket even if the screen was on and i didn't really have this issue.
Accidental Touch option don't working well as need it.
Sometimes working and sometimes don't but proximity sensor working like a charm
Think it's a software bug.

Lock screen activates while using phone

Hello.
I'm having a weird issue when occasionally while I'm using phone, it locks me out into lock screen. It happens several times a day and even while I'm interacting with the screen like during scrolling.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this and maybe have a tip what could cause it or how I can trace it without going through disabling apps or resetting settings?
Thank you.
