[Q] Is it possible to remove "Activation" dialog at startup? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using the device ONLY as a gaming device and have no plans to activate it through Verizon, however, everytime I turn it on, it asks me to activate on the network. I can simply close this and avoid it, but I would prefer to remove this entirely if possible. I tried to root the phone but no matter what rooting tool I use, it fails. Every time.
Can I please get some help? I am more of a Windows Phone person so I don't know much about Android rooting and modding.

If I recall correctly, the Verizon versions of the R800 (Might be the R800x) are somewhat locked down so I doubt you can do much at all 'easily' to be honest.
At the very least, without ROOT access you'll be unable to write to the SYSTEM partition which is what you will likely need to get access to in order to remove the activation message - it'll likely be an application that simply needs deleting. You can definitely get ROOT access on the R800x's though, I think it requires flashing different firmware using flashtool.
I would however stress to not let this particular device put a 'downer' on Android devices for you as a whole - there are only a small few devices locked down like this and the rest of the R800's aren't as restricted. You need an R800i lol.

I've tried to hunt down info to no avail on rooting this model. Every root too I've used has shown no results. The device does not change.

I have r800x rooted by doom method. Depends on what software you are running what root method you will need. Are you 2.3.2?2.3.3?2.3.4?2.3.7?

You can definitely root the R800x on 2.3.4. I've done it on 3 phones.
I posted this thread a while back to inform others of an easy root method using the Cydia Impactor Root tool .... ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=55573098 ). You won't see any visible changes after running the root tool (other than seeing su binary placed in system/xbin folder after rooting), but you can install Supersu to manage root applications after you inject the root with Cydia.
You may need to install an older version of Supersu after running Cydia Impactor Root, as I have not tested the newest version of Supersu from the Play Store. You can grab an older Supersu apk from here: ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53636923&postcount=2 ) which I believe would work if the newest Supersu doesn't work. ( Thanks goes to XDA member DocHoliday77 for the supersu apk and of course to Chainfire).
After you gain root, then check out post #7 in this thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=55290171 ) to see how to easily install CWM / Clockwork Mod Recovery.
.... (FYI, there's actually another root method called Eroot that also works on the R800x on 2.3.4 and 2.3.3....it's discussed in the same thread above where I said to see how to install CWM .... but I prefer Cydia Impactor method instead).
I hope this helps.

Sorry, I had to.
So, I turned this phone on after about a year since this last post and I decided to give it another go. Finally got it using the Cydia Impact method. BusyBox refuses to work but file browsers are allowing root access to delete the bloatware apps so thats good. Thanks for the help!

2.3.4 No HDMI output

Hello guys, I'm in need of help here.
I had 2.3.3 rooted and working fine, all recommended bloatware + some I removed on my own, and the phone worked like a charm, and the HDMI output worked too.
Now I have 2.3.4 (rooted via .181 flash + OTA). Removed all of the recommended bloatware, + some new which came with the 2.3.4 update...
.. and it seems that my HDMI output doesn't work. Just wanted to play some Tekken 3 on ePSE + sixaxis controller, plugged it in, and both my TV, my monitor, and my second monitor show either "Check Signal Cable" or "Power Saving Mode"..
I tried reinstalling every single bloatware app I removed, and it still doesn't help. Is there something I did wrong? Or maybe there is some 3rd party app for HDMI out?
Help please!
After almost giving up, finally solved my problem.
By some magical way, neither SEMCHdmiControlService or SEMChdmiEnabler were present in my backup folder or in system/app. Had to put it from 2.3.3, and it worked !
Hooray!
I have a question!
Now, I just flashed 184(UK),installed Gingerbreak 1.2 and rooted my arc.
If I wanna have rooted 2.3.4(with unlock boot loader), I must unroot my arc by gingerbreak and do following:
Flash Generic_World(Nordic).181 and start your phone again.
-Plug in your USB-cable to the computer and phone again.
-Make sure USB-debugging is activated in the settings menu.
-Install Gingerbreak 1.2 and press "Root the phone".
-The phone reboots by itself in about 20 seconds after pressing Root.
-After reboot and a long wait, go to settings and install OTA.
-Phone collects firmware OTA and reboots many times.
-Now Its working and you have rooted 2.3.4
It is right?

Download the apps
Does any of these two apps have anythibg to do with CEC function or is just LG's Simplink no good? I can connect and browse the phone, but only if using phone's screen, remote control does not work.
Anybody? Any idea? I am really getting desperate.
I never rooted my phone so cannot help here.
But you messed something up for sure when doing all the operations.
Can somebody post SEMChdmiEnabler.apk
I do not have it in my 2.3.4 update. Also after downloading 91mb of apps from the above link, there is no such app in there. Of course that makes me think 2.3.4 comes without it and it is not needed, but would like to try nevertheless. it cannot hurt.
So please, if nay of you guys have it, can you share it?

[Windows][Linux][Mac][One-Click] Root - CWM - Galaxy Nexus 4.0.1 & 4.0.2 -NO WIPE-
Introduction
I put together a one-click root in CASUAL format. Because it's in CASUAL format, the same Java JAR will work on Windows, Linux and Mac.
This package contains
root your device without unlocking/wiping.
install busybox without unlocking/wiping.
install Clockwork Mod Recovery for GSM or CDMA without unlocking/wiping.
Lock/unlock
Download and Instructions
CASUAL is easy to use, and fairly self explanitory.
Launch the downloaded application using Java with right-click-open, or from a command line: "java -jar GalaxyNexus.jar"
Select "Galaxy Nexus root"
Click the "Do It' button
Optionally: Repeat the previous step with "Install Busybox" option selected to install Busybox.
Optionally: Select Install Galaxy Nexus CDMA or GSM ClockWork Mod Recovery
Download Galaxy Nexus Root and Busybox
Ensure you have Java Installed on your computer. Do you have java?

I'm not really sure what the terms and conditions of your warranty are, but there is no "unlocked" icon to show that you've voided your warranty because this uses a permissions exploit to circumvent the need to unlock and flash a kernel.
I would GLADLY donate a nice amount if there would be a way to make this work on Honeycomb. Sick of Verizon's bs not getting ICS out to the Xoom, but I have too much game data saved - don't wanna root since unlock/wipe is required.

Busy Box
Do you need t install busy box or Install the proper recovery for your device
Please explain.
I am interested in Root and or Super User and i think this is the way to go but not sure about the BB or Recovery.
With this giving you +root+ and no wipe what is need for BB and shouldn't you still be able to restore the phone using factory reset?
Thankx!
You can root with this app without needing to wipe. It will automatically install the Super User. Then you can install Busy Box via the application as well.
You do not need to install a custom recovery if you do not want to. BusyBox is simply tools on the android that let you install more apps that require advanced commands.
Galaxy Nexus 4.0.1 & 4.0.2 -NO WIPE
Thank you!!
If i have the need to un-root my device will this application do that as well?
Also, will i still be able to receive OTA updates this way or will i have to do them manually? I just want to know my optionswith it before i +root+ using this method.
I don't see why you can't get OTA updates but that might kill the root. Meaning the update could stop the root and you would have to either reroot it using this way or using the official method where you first have to unlock the device.
Maybe the developer can shed a bit more light on that part and for un-rooting as well
I bet that GnexRootToolkit.v1.3 will un-root your phone if you use this 1-click method. Just not sure.
You should be fine. Just run the app again after rooting. This works with the 4.0.2 OTA.
If you need to unroot id check out ERD Supercurio's RootKeeper. Great app and it can spoof unrooting .

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Update Error

Hi Guys!
I did not find anything concerning this problem, so i considered posting it here, I hope this is the right section though.
I own a GSM Galaxy Nexus (German Phone) and after finally getting the update 2 4.0.4 my phone always jumps into this state after rebooting and trying 2 update:

As i found no way to update manually this is probably the only way to get to 4.0.4.
The Phone is rooted and has 4.0.2 running atm.
Anyone some advice?

Your have one or more of the following:
1) a radio that is different from XXKK6;
2) a boot image that is either not stock or (if it is stock), a different version from the one included in the factory image of the ROM you are using;
3) a stock recovery that is a different version from the one included in the factory image of the ROM you are using;
4) files in /system that were modified or deleted, either by you, or one of your root apps.
Those issues need to be rectified before the update will install.
Have a read of this thread for additional info.
Hey efrant
Thanks for you fast answer!
I checked the list.
1.) My Baseband/Radio is I9250XXKK6, so i guess thats ok so far.
2 and 3.) As far as I know I'm on stock Boot image and ROM, how can I check that on my phone? (Heres the info from the system info menu: Kernel-Version: 3.0.8-gaaa2611 [email protected] #1, Build number: ICL53F)
4.) I had several files altered by root apps:
- I'm using Avast Anti Theft and had the Anti Theft functions written into my bootrom (which could likely cause a problem)
- I'm using a Web Remote App that altered some files in the system at least it requested superuser access
Thanks

The easiest way to proceed is to flash CWM, download the IMM76I-from-ICL53F update from here and try to install it in CWM. CWM will tell you exactly which file/files is/are causing the problem.
So, I'll use Method 2 from your link above and this firmware right, and report back!
Worked flawlessly! Thank you!
Or not....
I had OTA RootKeeper installed before the Update and just reflashed the device afterwards being sure that my device will be rooted again....
Well as i found out right now it didnt protect anything, i tried Root Check Basic (Which says my device isnt properly rooted) and wanted to do a superuser binary update which always fails at "getting root access".
I tried rerooting the device using the GNex Root Toolkit several times, with OTA RootKeeper protection on and off, no difference.
Im not sure what a rest would do to my phone as I have an anti theft app installed and several other things that would cost me some time to rebuild after reset. So i'd by happy to solve this without a factory rest. Any Suggestions?
Thank you
Julian

I'm sorry if this question has been asked a gazillion times, but I want to know what I'm getting into first as I am new to rooting.

yes that will work..go to settings>about phone> and you will find all the info abt ur software versions...u are basically looking for build number here..
Build Number is:
6.2.B.0.211
Therefore since it appears to be the most recent firmware, I can simply skip to the rooting portion of the guide correct?
Thanks, I've been hoping to get my phone rooted to get rid of all the bloatware.
You guys are awesome!
I have attempted to root the device to no avail. Does the firmware have to be flashed over? Or can I use the firmware currently on it. If it has to be flashed over, my phone does not appear to have drivers in the flash tool. Can I flash without installing a driver?

It tells me to use the display system check but it just gets stuck hanging at a white screen on my phone and the program does not continue from there. If you could tell me the version of the root program and which option to use, I might be able to do it, but I've tried a few different versions of it with different options. Not exactly sure what I can do.
Edit: Do I have to flash my firmware before trying to root? It doesn't say anywhere that I have to, however could that be what's not allowing me to root?

Time to root! So, can the LG Q7+ be rooted?

Now that the Q7+ is out in mass can it be rooted? I know you can unlock it but can be rooted and if so what are
some of the ways it's been done? Removing bloatware is a big motivation for rooting for me.
Cheers!

If I have Metro Pcs Q7+ LM-Q610MA, can it be unlocked. Because the option for OEM unlock is available in the dev. Options. Anyway I've never done it, and figure I use the twrp app and that's a wrap.

I have tried every method out there, KingRoot, Kingoo Root etc do not work on this device.
And have you updated Android system on first run?
The ubdate process starts automatically, it needs disabling in settings.
From box yet the system version is dated as 1 may 2018, and very agressivelly wants to update itself
It's obvious the newer system update the less probability KingRoot manages it!
An another question, have you tried to root via KingRoot or KingooRoot, but NOT an apk run on Android - but exe run from PC and connecting through USB cable?

Like I said, "I have tried every method out there". tried before and after updating no luck.
Maybe developers from KingRoot, KingoRoot etc. will find some exploit within this system, to enable obtaining root without touching bootloader
And indeed did you try with KingoRoot on PC? I tried to try, as KingoRoot didn't want to get installed on MS Win. As part of installation it downloads something from Internet, but it has been stuck exactly on 10% of progress bar.
Repeated on another komputer and the same: stuck on 10%! Have you experienced anything like this? So, how have you tried to root through KingoRoot from PC if the program can't install at all on a computer?
