Hi, I'm seeing conflicting information on whether the quad-core (international) HTC One X supports T-Mobile US's AWS bands. Engadget and other sites are reporting that it does. But HTC's own specs don't mention it.
Does anyone have any light to shed on this?
Thanks, Alan
Yes, HTC One X will support Tmobile's AWS band
Hi, as we do know the T-Mobile HTC One X will debut in early April, for a yet to be released date, though T-Mobile didn't provide exact release date. As you mentioned that HTC' site doesn't give any clue whether it will support AWS band or not. We can say that it will be updated soon for sure, as well as T-Mobile reveals a release date. We suspect that HTC didn't show T-Mobile AWS band as the device is only available for pre-order from various retailers, so it will update it soon as well as T-Mobile reports.
I'd really like to know the answer to this question also. To add to the confusion, HTC's site for the AT&T version of the One X (Called the One XL) does show that it will support AWS: www.htc.com/us/products/htconex-att#tech-specs
It doesn't make a lot of sense to me why the AT&T specific version would support AWS for T-Mobile (never seen that before in an AT&T specific phone). In the past it was usually the international version that supported AWS. I don't see any of the various phone/gadget blogs mentioning this about the AT&T version either.

I don't understand what you're talking about here. There's no T-Mobile HTC One X. T-Mobile is getting the One S (the lesser midrange handset). That's what was announced at MWC this week, to appear in the spring.
For what it's worth, here's a rumor that T-Mobile will get the HTC One X in the summer (with the Tegra 3 quad-core cpu and stock Android even).
www.androidandme.com/2012/02/smartp...e-to-get-stock-android-4-0-and-quad-core-cpu/
I'm wondering myself does Tegra 3 Quad core support AWS band and if so does it support HSPA +42 or HSPA +21? Also is it the One X Terga coming to Tmobile Usa or One XL Snapdragron coming to Tmobile USA? Like another poster said the HTC website shows the AWS band for One XL under AT&T but no AWS band for One X under international version.

Come to think about it somebody posted the build prop file for the HTC Endeavor aka HTC One X and it did not list compatibility with AWS band.

This is a bit of speculation on my part, but it could be that AT&T ordered the HTC One X to be compatible with T-Mobile's AWS since they predicted that the merge was going to go through. Lets not forget that AT&T and T-Mobile do have new roaming agreements after the merger fell through.

That makes a lot of sense. Seems plausible.
Don't know if it means anything, but GSMArena now lists the AT&T One X as having AWS (I assume they probably just pulled it from the HTC site and I do find that GSMArena's stats can be a little unreliable):
www.gsmarena.com/htc_one_x_at&t-4614.php
I'd hate to have to have an AT&T branded phone to get AWS though. I like the unbranded phones.

Hmm. There's also this story, from yesterday (and spreading rapidly), that quad-core variant of the One X has cleared the FCC, headed to an unknown carrier:
www.pocketnow.com/android/quad-core-htc-one-x-gets-fcc-certified
And this rumor from a week ago that T-Mobile will get a stock Android version of the One X:
www.androidandme.com/2012/02/smartp...e-to-get-stock-android-4-0-and-quad-core-cpu/
From what I read this morning, international version of the One X will be with AT&T. Therefore, the chance of One X being available on T-Mobile dropped, but its not for sure until CTIA in May. Hopefully they'll announce something.
Other than that, T-Mobile customer may be able to use international version of the One X on T-Mobile someday. Since T-Mobile may or may not be refarming their 1900 GSM spectrum. If they do refarm it to 1900 UMTS, then I'll be one happy T-Mobile customer.

Where are you getting this? It's well known the AT&T is not getting the international version, but rather a different version with a Qualcomm dual-core processor, to accomodate AT&T's LTE network. Even HTC's own website list's a separate AT&T version of the One X, from the international version.
Also, if you look earlier in this thread, the AT&T version in the specs on HTC's website support's T-Mobile's AWS frequencies. So there may be more than one avenue to get a One X that works on T-Mobile.

First, I've worded it wrong regarding the international version. I meant to say that the international version is compatible with AT&T. Won't be offered on AT&T, but the UMTS bands has 1900/2100 on it so it could be used on AT&T.
HTC One X
I think I might have missed the AWS spectrums for the XL. Personally I don't think I would put too much hope into it, because the XL for AT&T is meant to focus on LTE. If you look on the T-Mobile Reinvigorated Challenger Strategy Presentation, AT&T's AWS also ties into their LTE.
T-Mobile's refarming their GSM 1900mhz, hopefully to UMTS 1900mhz. If that's the case, T-Mobile users will still have a chance to use One X or One XL on T-Mobile.
T-Mobile USA Reinvigorated Challenger Strategy Presentation
There's also rumors that One X will be coming to Sprint and to T-Mobile as the G4X. The time the possibility of announcement is probably in May.
Rumor
So I'm trying to hold out till May to see if I could see an announcement. If not, I think I might be getting the international version of One X, then wait patiently and hoping T-Mobile will hurry up and refarm the 1900 spectrum. There's also words that the refarming has already been going on, with more iPhone users noticing that they could get 3G speed.
Thanks for the further explanation and links. I could be wrong, but it still seems to me like the AT&T One XL might work on T-Mobile. If you look at the specs on HTC's website, you can see that it has AWS not just for LTE, but also for WCDMA (i.e. UMTS).
www.htc.com/us/products/htconex-att#tech-specs
I don't see why that wouldn't work with T-Mobile. As nickmgray points out above, it's plausible that AT&T specified the bands for the One XL, before they knew that the T-Mobile merger was going to fall through. Hence at the time, they may have wanted a phone that would work with T-Mobile's network.

Yes, I linked to the original source of that rumor above.

I'm not holding my breath on the spectrum refarming being a solution for the One X. Unfortunately I can't remember where I first read about it, but my understanding is that it will take a couple years. At that point there will certainly be more compelling phones than the One X.
Also, if you look at the charts in the link you provide to the T-Mobile Strategy Presentation, you can see that even after the refarming, it appears T-Mobile will still be using AWS for HSPA+, as well as for LTE. So it seems that a phone that does not have the AWS bands could suffer significant coverage issues. T-Mobile's goal in the document seems to be to make the network better for in-bound international roaming and more compatible with devices from other carriers. But a phone without AWS for a U.S. resident would still be limited.
It would be nice though if international and AT&T phones were fully compatible with T-Mobile's network. That would give T-Mobile a nice advantage with handset options; and a good way to tempt away AT&T customers (who could then keep the phones they already have). But, again, it seems like this is something for the future and not a way to count on using the One X with T-Mobile.
I'm hoping HTC will just make an international version with the AWS bands, as is the case with the Sensation. Or it would be great if they put a pentaband radio in the international version, like Nokia has been doing for a while. Or maybe the Tegra-3 One X for T-Mobile rumor will turn out to be true.
I actually like the size of the One S better. But it's not worth it to me without the 720p resolution and 16 Gb of memory (without a microsd expansion slot).
Just looked at the FCC's documents on AT&T's One X.
The document doesn't mention testing any of T-Mobile's bands. Don't know if they didn't test it, or the phone don't have it.

Thanks for the link. I'm not sure what to make of that. For example, they only list GSM 850 and 1900 frequencies. It would be really unusual for a phone these days like this not to be quad-band GSM. So it seems like the FCC report is probably not listing all the bands the phone can operate on, only those that it will use with the AT&T network. I'm not sure this really answers the question about AWS in the AT&T One XL.
What about the One X with the tegra-3 processor that went through the FCC? Do you know where the report for that is? I can't really see how to search the FCC website.

Thanks for the link. Again, this doesn't really indicate that T-Mobile is completely refarming HSPA+ to 1900 Mhz. It just says, "A nice side benefit of the refarming effort is that our 4G network will be compatible with a broader range of devices, including the iPhone." The fact that more different devices will technically work on the network, does not mean that they will get the same coverage as devices that work on both 1900 Mhz and AWS. As the other document you linked to indicates, after the refarming HSPA+ will be on both 1900 Mhz and AWS, so it may mean that if you want the best coverage on T-Mobile's network, you need a phone covering both frequencies. Time will tell I guess, but it doesn't seem clear yet.
And, as I said, this is so far down the road to completion (they're starting now, but it will take a couple years to complete) that I don't see it as being a good solution for using a One X that lacks the AWS bands on the T-Mobile network.
Took a while, but I found the international version of the One X on FCC.
One X FCC
Looking at the model number and matching with other site, it looks like it's the one. The only problem is, it doesn't show any frequency testings. I also looked up the One S and found 3 model numbers, seems like only the one coming to US is the one with the frequency testings.

Any differences? I know the quad processor was a big difference on the note 1. I think thats been taken care of. How about the home button? Are they soft on the international version?
No differences buddy. It will be released to all 5 major networks here in the US by mid-November. With LTE (except T-Mobile, HSPA+) and with a Quad Core.

Appears the N7105 will be international and support European LTE bands, which is different from USA. Appears the N7100 will support LTE bands (ATT etc) in U.S., but not totally confirmed. Just pointing out, still a question. if you just wait to get from ATT, as an example, previous post is totally correct, no differences at this point.

Well I hope the international bands are the same for LTE, Cause I wanna plan on buying the international one, Upgrading my N7000. The reason why is cause By the time I pay for TAXES to pay retail at AT&T It would be about $50 dollars cheaper to buy the international one

Support for GSM is just a part of it. It need to be able to use multiple frequency bands(which it does) normally it it's tri/quad band it's ok, But also it need to have a SIM slot which you can replace SIM card from carrier outside the US then you can call that a world phone.

TMK, it should work. If memory serves, the Verizon HTC One is just a standard global HTC One with Verizon's customizations. Now, having said that, Verizon has been known to disable\completely remove\block the GSM functionality of global phones in the past when they release a version for their network(Droid Bionic, Droid RAZR, ect..) so it's entirely possible that, while the phone is physically capable of operating outside Verizon's network, that Verizon has blocked it from doing so.

In all fairness you are asking about the HTC one m8 and this is a thread for the m7 so if you wanna try and get a real response you might want to check out the Verizon m8 forums not the m7. It wasn't a witty response. Was a real actual question. I see so many threads of people buying Verizon phones and try to make them fully work on gsm networks. Yes, it works fine with HSPA+. For LTE, it could connect with LTE, but my situation is I can't make phone calls and text messages under LTE. Hope this would help.
The Verizon HTC One will work on any network, I can't speak for bands/speeds.

Has anyone here tried the new root file for Verizon S8+

It will only work with an unlocked bootloader. Since all US Snapdragon based S8's have a locked bootloader it useless.
So why has Chainfire made this at all if it does not work or will brick your phone? I should ask him but not sure he will answer.

You missed my point and question to him. Which is "U" model is LOCKED because it is all phones inside the USA that are distributed by all 4 major carriers. So there is no such thing as SM-G955U which is unlocked. Does not exist. Thus I wanna know why there is even a zip file which chainfire created since it cannot be used on any of these phones. And why would it "get unlocked"....it is done at the factory. Only way to "unlock" it is to use a root method like was done on S7, where it basically involves flashing an engineering boot image/kernel that has root. At some point, this probably will be made and then using same modified ODIN (PrinceComsy) would potentially be the solution.

At some point, this probably will be made and then using same modified ODIN (PrinceComsy) would potentially be the solution.

I will try and clear up some confusion. All US snapdragon versions of the S8+ have the same model number SM-G955U. There is an "unlocked" SM-G955U version of the S8+ in the US. It is carrier unlocked not bootloader unlocked. Apparently the CSC file carries the carrier information in the firmware. Also the S7 was rooted but never bootloader unlocked. So you could use most root apps but you could not modify any system files. The root was achieved with an engineering kernel and was not very useful.(ie bad battery life, phone getting hot and unstable). You could however flash any US S7 to any carrier or even the Unlocked firmware.
But if you cannot flash even the csc, how do you gain root access when Odin basically does nothing. That's my question and point. Seems that if I stick with Galaxy phones that I'm never going to attain root again. Probably because they don't want risks of pay apps being misused. I have one app that refuses to even run if I have usb debugging on. Vendors are getting smarter about locking things down.
It's not Samsung's fault...it is Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile. I can't even take my Verizon phone and change it to T-Mobile. That's ridiculous!
If LG lets it's consumers unlock there bootloader then why don't samsung? I'm selling my ccarrier unlocked s8+ and buying a unlocked g6. Screw this crap. I hope samsung goes bankrupt! SAMSUNG ALLOW US TO UNLOCK OUR BOOTLOADERS.
I wish my S8+ was rooted?

The reason you can't do this is the bands are different (I believe). Or, at least Verizon is CDMA while T-Mobile is GSM. I don't know much about the differences between CDMA & GSM, but I know that CDMA phones won't work on GSM networks & vice versa. That's why Verizon phones won't work on T-Mobile. Hopefully that (kinda) cleared it up for you.

My goodness you could not be any more wrong..... That is no longer the case anymore. Verizon phones work on T-Mobile and all GSM carriers. I should know since I was with Verizon and I switched a while back but am now back on Verizon. Some phones from T-mobile won't work with Verizon but some do. It just depends on the phone and what bands it has. Like the S8 from T-Mobile will work on Verizon but an iPhone 7 from T-Mobile won't because it doesn't have CDMA bands. It's simple research

CDMA is only for 3G. With 4G, Verizon is using LTE GSM (same with AT&T, T-Mobile).
Verizon LTE covers over 98% of their network, but there are still some remote places where there is only CDMA coverage.
Verizon is moving away from CDMA and it will be retired by 2018.
So as long as you don't mind not having CDMA in a few places, any LTE GSM phone with Band 13 would work with Verizon.
Look at HTC U11, it doesn't have CDMA, but it's still advertised as "Verizon certified".
Sadly, the Internationals versions of S8/S8+ don't have band 13. But fortunately, all US versions have both bands 13 and CDMA support. That's why you can switch to any carrier as long as it's a US version.

My point exactly about the S8's. US variants are all the same no matter what carrier. All Google phones after the Nexus 6 are the same way. The Nexus 6 worked on all US carriers no matter where you got it from and it's like that all the way to the new Pixel phones. Where as iPhone's, just as an example, have different bands when it comes to different carriers. Unlocked, Verizon, and Sprint iPhone's have all bands both CDMA and GSM where as the GSM ones like those bought straight from T-Mobile or AT&T only have the GSM bands.

You're NOT stupid! I had no idea either. I know that I tried to switch my Verizon S8+ to T-Mobile but it wouldn't recognize my IMEI so I just figured the two networks were different
I have a unlocked verizon(xfinity mobile) s8plus on tmobile right now.. The phone had no issues on setup to go on the tmobile network..

So this has changed?
Hey, I plan to buy my Galaxy so from Samsung rather than my carrier (ATT). I have a couple questions. Will I just be able to add the Sim currently in my Galaxy say or will I need a new one? Also, will I have to take it into the store?
Just put your existing soon card in and away you go. No need for anything else. It's what I did when I got my Note 8 from Samsung.
If you buy it from Samsung, the phone it's unlocked, so you can use any valid SIM (including the one you are currently using now).
Samsung has an unlocked model available on their website along with carrier specific models. I would think the carrier specific models are the same as the phones you would get at a AT&T or Verizon store. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'd like to know this as I would like an unlocked bootloader but.... I would like the Carrier version for some additional features like VoLTE/VoWifi.
Right now I'm torn between just going to Best Buy (since in the states) or just getting it directly from Samsung.
The carrier versions will have the standard carrier bloat pre-installed.
I can't find the exact band specifications of each of the models... Does anyone know if the hardware/antenna chips will be the same on T-Mobile vs. unlocked from Samsung? I am assuming there are certain bands missing from the unlocked version if you plan on using T-mobile's network, but I can't confirm this....
Best Buy's doing a $100 off if you preorder on Friday just heads up.

And if you have an s8 or other qualifying phone you can get a total of $450 off I believe on Friday from Best Buy.

I too had the same questions and this is what I found. I don't know how accurate it is.

It looks like the answer to our question is on this page: https://www.techwalls.com/samsung-galaxy-s9-sm-g960-g965-model-number-differences/
The T-Mobile version seems to be missing the following, in comparison to the unlocked US version:
4G FDD LTE B71 (600 mhz) - This is T-Mobile's new spectrum... this seems important to have (just google t-mobile 600mhz)
2G CDMA and 3G CDMA - I don't believe this matters to us
3G TD-SCDMA B34 and B39 (2010 and 1880mhz) - I assume these will be missed if outside LTE coverage?
But in general, the unlocked version seems to support more bands than the Tmo version
So, it seems if one is on the T-Mobile network and plans to stay there, they really should get the T-Mobile version of the phone.... someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

You do know that unlocked isn't meaning unlocked bootloader right? It's meaning unlocked bands

I'm with AT&T and I'm pretty sure there will be no wifi calling on any phone other than the AT&T version. That's a feature I want. If it doesn't matter to you an unlocked phone may be for you. I don't know for a fact that wifi calling won't work on an unlocked S9 but if it does, it will be the first. I don't want the extra carrier apps but they aren't going to cause me any grief on a beast like this phone. I'd rather have the services the carrier provides if I'm going to use them. If It turns out that wifi calling works on the unlocked S9, I may revise my plan but I doubt that will happen. I'm pretty much done with the rooting/modding stuff so that isn't an issue. Even the master hackers are going with stock phones d/t the features and security.
