Hello,
does anybody know if and how I can remove my sim tray?
I cant get it out anymore to change my card, is there any way?
I am not afraid to open the phone.
SIM tray removal
I did the same thing when the SIM slipped while putting it in. The only way I was able to get it out was to get a push-pin with a diameter slightly bigger than the SIM tray hole, put it in about .25 inch and use it to pull out the SIM tray.
This resulted in bending the SIM tray tab (the end that sticks out with the hole in it) but the tray came out and went back in just fine.
I would like to get a new SIM tray now though because mine looks obviously buggered up.

Well, I have a micro SIM from T-Mobile which I was using in my lumia. I wanted to see if I could find a way to make it fit in a regular SIM slot. I decided to try making an extender out of a gift card. When I put it in, it didn't fit. I pulled, and pulled with tweezers, my hands, etc. All failed, and eventually the little piece I was pulling, broke off. I then had a piece of the gift card stuck deep in the slot. So stupidly, I decided to dig around in the SIM slot with the edge of the tweezers to pull it out. Now I can't put a SIM in the SIM slot, and there's still gift card in there. I may have damaged the SIM reader prongs as well... Any ideas on how to fix it? Can I pull off the actual back part to get to it? I really hope I'm not ultimately screwed...

take apart your phone and have a look see, at the very least you should be able to get out the giftcard piece. if you didnt cause too much damage it probably will be fine once out
As the title says, my S3 will no longer hold the SIM card. The spring just keeps popping the SIM card back out.
Does anyone know how I could play a bit of operation to just disable the spring?
I just want to get a few more weeks out of my s3 until the new nexus 5

I had a phone where the microSD slot stopped working right. A piece of business card trimmed to the right size to slip into the tray along with the SD card added just enough tension to hold the SD card in place without becoming hopelessly wedged. Something similar might work for this if you can find the right thickness card. Good luck.

I wound up electrical taping it into place.
Hopefully that holds for a while...
Nope. That worked for about five minutes. Back to the drawing board.
I folded up a piece of tape and used it with more tape, to jam everything in tight together. Seams to have lasted ten minutes now.
I had the same problem and did this.

For anyone that comes across this in the future (or if you still need a solution):
At the bottom of the SD card slot (while holding the phone upright) there is a small spring which is responsible for pushing the card out. You can pull the spring out with a small phillips screw driver, knife or other thin point.
At the bottom right of the SD card slot there is a small tab like feature. Bend this up, and put your screw driver downwards into this small hole. Now pry the spring out. It will take a few attempts, and it will definitely help if you use a flashlight and look to see whats going on in there.
Since Monday I have problems with the SIM card bring recognised. It does one of 3 things. It times down from 10 saying no sim card and then it restarts. When it comes back on this repeats till you take the battery out. Or it will say searching instead of network or it will say the network then suddenly it will switch to invalid sim.
I tried putting paper in the sim tray and ruled out a sim tray problem that way. I put my boyfriends sim into my phone and the same thing happened. I put my sim into my boyfriends phone and it works fine.
It may be unrelated but there is a software update that keeps coming up but the install keeps failing
And saying verification failed after restarting the device after download. I have no idea how to fix this sim problem.
Thanks in advance.

Sim Card Fix
The repair I did should never have been necessary. LG decided not to use any heat sink interface material between the main CPU/PCB and the heatsink. So when the phone gets older, things start loosening from all the expansion and contraction of these parts leading to sim card disconnections, and probably other problems.
Remove back cover, carefully disconnect the ribbon cables, remove main circuit board. Apply one piece of thermal adhesive heat transfer tape so that it covers the back of the board where it makes contact with the silver heatsink, making sure you remove the plastic film from both sides of the tape. This tape is about 1.5-2 mm thick, a perfect fit! I also added a small piece to the back edge of the sim card before I put the battery back in just to keep it from moving. You may not need to do this.
Since I installed it my phone hasn't worked like this since the day I first got it. Everything works perfectly and the phone doesn't get hot like it used to.
Hope this works for you,
James L.

So apparently it wasn't a bad drop, nothing happened to phone (no cracks or anything) everything is working fine expect sim card, it says ''No Sim Card, Emergency Calls only'' and when i remove card a notification pop up saying ''Unable to detect sim card'' i tried other sim cards and none of them works so i'm guessing its a hardware damage?
Just because there is no external obvious damage, doesn't mean the internals are free of damage. Almost certainly, you broke the SIM tray. You might try to "thicken" the SIM with a piece of tape (don't cover the gold contacts) and see if it cause the SIM to make better contact inside the tray. Be careful you don't put on too much tape, and get the SIM stuck inside.
Other than that, you probably need the SIM tray repaired, or other similar hardware repair.

I forgot to mention that my sim card started working somehow 2 days ago and the problem didn't occur after, if it happens again I'll try what you said. Thanks : )
Hi all,
I recently traveled overseas and purchased a second SIM card for data and the shop assistant probably broke the tray while inserting the card. Fast forward to today, I'm stuck with a broken SIM tray that allows me to only change SIM-2 as SIM-1 is stuck in the broken tray that is still inside the phone. I've went down to the service center and found out that it costs $40-50 for repairs because they have to take apart the entire phone. I think this is a little unreasonable and I'd like to know if there is any way to remove it myself and replace it with a $4 tray bought from ebay.
Thanks!
