Slow Google Now Recognition - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I recently purchased the AT&T version of the LG G3. I love the phone. I had a Nexus 4 previously.
So, everything about the G3 seems snappy to me. I've noticed lag a couple of times, but nothing that really bothers me. I did switch to Nova launcher because it seems just a tad quicker. However, the only thing that is really bugging me is that Google Now seems to not be nearly as responsive on the G3 as it was on my Nexus 4. When I say "Ok Google" it comes up pretty quickly, but when I start my voice commands, it seems really slow in figuring out what I'm saying to it. With my Nexus 4, it was pretty darn fast recognizing everything I say. I'm a native English speaker and don't have any kind of accent, so I'm not sure why it is acting so sluggish.
Any suggestions?

Bump.

G3 letdown?

Coming from the note 3 I'd say overall this phone is better, but there's some problems with the software. At least that's what I'm guessing. When I switch to app alternatives it runs great.
For instance the keyboard feels ungodly awful. Spacebar recognizes only half my taps, and the auto correct feels poorly utilized. I have to manually select dictionary suggestions. Going to SwiftKey and there's no problems. I'd love to actually test the g3 keyboard features but It's almost unusable.
Window transitions also seem to lag a bit and I see redraws. But I also notice it sometimes too navigating settings menu.
So what do you guys think, how's the software? Should I simply flash another rom ?

Honestly the only thing I agree with you on is the keyboard but I upgraded from a gs3.
I love the phone so far. I switched from the S5. This phone feels allot like the s5 but it runs better in my opinion. I have a problem plugging things in the headphone jack. Sometimes the phone recognizes it and sometimes it doesn't.

Not sure why people post this, if you don't like it take it back. Problem solved..
The keyboard turns off auto correct out of box but leaves suggestions. When typing the two word on the left and right are suggested spellings if they are misspelled and you just swipe up on the left or right side to auto fix the word.
Coming from the note 3 I don't agree your phone is faulty keyboard is far better than the note 3. Go to your keyword setting and look around I will suggest. Only agree with window transition but it's far less laggier than the note 3
I say it's OK because I will install Google Cantonese Keyboard anyway (unfortunately, Samsung keyboards does not support ChangJei - one of the reasons I drop Samsung phones).
I came from a Note 3 as well. On it I miss the AMOLED, USB 3.0, and the S-Pen. On the G3i like the smaller form factor while keeping the larger screen and the resolution. The G3 does have some bugs I don't like though, such as my keyboard would keep reverting to the LG one until I froze it. I don't think either is better, just slightly different.
Tbh I think the lg keyboard is the worst I've ever used. I uninstalled it and I'm on the android l keyboard now
There was an update today for the keyboard.. Seems to make it much smoother and word suggestions appear as you swype and not after.. Looks to be big improvements. Also added emoji's into word suggestions . Give it a try!
I am trying this keyboard instead of using Google's and it seems to be okay.

I agree. I absolutely love the keyboard once I went into settings and set things the way I wanted them.

I heard about that issue and LG is denying that its a hardware issue.. I think it may be a software bug but who knows i havent had the problem so i wouldnt know but try going back to your tmobile store if that is where you got it from if not then... you're screwed :silly:
I don't focus on stock things like keyboards which can be easily swapped for something else. I'm used to the Google Keyboard and just use it with any device, problem solved.
Personally I like my devices as close to stock Android, and with Root + Xposed you can pretty much get there. The only thing I really use that's LG's is the camera app, and it's quite good. People complain about the camera app too -- well guess what, you can load other cameras too - either the stock Google Camera or FV-5, A Better Camera, etc.
I'm coming from an HTC M8. I loved the M8 but I dropped it in a pool and TMobile gave me the option of either getting a refurb replacement via the insurance I pay for or getting a different phone. As much as I loved the M8, I took a new phone. Mostly because I wanted a larger screen again, but other than the size of the screen and maybe the camera (camera isn't a real big issue though) I loved the M8.
I will agree that I don't like the stock keyboard. But being on Android, we can change that. I've put my trusted and true Swype on and i'm back in business.
I've seen people complain about lag in the UI and there is a non root fix for that using a service phone number and changing a setting. I did notice a pinch of that lag and applied the change and it seems to have cleared up. http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-fix-lag-on-lg-g3-without-root/ if anyone is interested.
The 4K screen is more than a phone needs but isn't the reason why I chose the phone. Its pretty, plenty bright for me and yes, I was using it outside during the day and it was bring and clear enough for me. The battery is good too. I notice that when the screen is on, the battery is faster ( /duh) but when the screen is off, the battery practically doesn't go down. I have a 10,000MaH battery to recharge my devices on the go so if I it dies I can use that or guy a 2nd battery to swap. But I have an office IT job so I am never far away from a plug.
I am quite impressed with the camera though. I will always use my DSLR for important shots but this phone has a good camera and the autofocus is stupid fast.
I'm quite happy with the G3 and won't be taking it anywhere near a pool. I've had at least 7 smart phones and the M8 was the first I broke. Cost me $175 for my clumsiness.

I'll be damned...these changed settings did kill the lag issue on mine..it took a few seconds after the second boot, maybe 15-20, but suddenly it was like I was running Nova or Apex with 0 Animations. Good catch, thanks, and welcome to G3! Cheers!
Why do people miss samoled screens? Sorry but that black can suck it with the dark banding while scrolling crap. The absolute best keyboard is the Xperia one hands down. It literally took the best features from each keyboard and packed it into one. Just wish they had a theme option besides the only 3 stock ones.
I should be getting a G3 next month and can't wait. Size wise it's a downgrade from a Z Ultra but I'll be keeping it around as a tablet so to speak.
The keyboard out of the box is terrible.
However, after customizing it to my liking, it's honestly one of the better keyboards I've ever used. The update happened a day or two after I bought it as well, so perhaps that had something to do with it.
I came from the Note 3 as well, and I couldn't stand the keyboard on that (though I liked the device overall).

For people/devs who have used Galaxy/iPhones: Scrolling speed/responsiveness

Edit: I'd like it if people who have actually used Samsung Galaxy S series and iPhones phones to reply. That way I'm sure they'll understand what I'm talking about.
I have a G4 but I've been using Samsung phones for a while but I have used some other phones from LG, HTC, Oppo, Sony.
The last phone that I have had before the G4 was a Galaxy S5 (which I gave to my wife).
I really miss the scrolling on the S5, which is like iPhones if I'm not mistaken. Very responsive and quick to react to our touches. I move in the direction that I want and it does its best to follow my finger, while on the G4 it lags behind and takes its time. I had an HTC M9 before the G4 and it is also slow in scrolling and feel like it lags behind. Sure they're all smooth but I don't like how slow it is. I don't feel like I have that much control like I did on the S5.
My Asus touchscreen laptop has a very good touch response as well, same as on the S5 and it's better than on my G4 lol, interesting huh.
I am sure that it is software related and that it comes from Google's stock and bad scrolling behavior. It's not LGs fault.
I am wondering if someone knows of a tweak to improve scrolling?
I am rooted so I can do changes to build.prop.
Thanks in advance!

Update to 10n or the newest update for your model. Screen responsiveness is much improved. Smoothest I've seen Android besides vanilla nexus.

Note to all that I am not talking about touchscreen issues. I'm using 10h which fixes touchscreen issues.
This is about scrolling and how sluggish (yet smooth) it is on the g4. I'm looking for a tweak that can make scrolling more responsive, a tweak that makes it follow our finger more and not lag behind.
Anyone?
I just used my wife's S5 again to update it to latest Android for an hour and went back to the G4 and right away noticed how bad the response is on the G4, how sluggish it is. Could it be that the G4 doesn't have a good ms touch response? the speed at which the screens responds to our fingers.
Install an adblock (adaway) (need root)

I use habit browser and it has native adblock
The bad response is all over the phone, not really just browser.
Go in developer setting change the animation duration for all 3 options.
Have you tried another browser?
Other idea :
Root, install a debloated rom, install greenify
After reading the replies here I think no one has actually fully read my OP. This has nothing to do with a browser and I do use greenify.

I've used Samsung up until the s5 and I currently have an iPhone 6 and a g4 my g4 is much faster and more smooth than the iPhone. I'm running xTreme rom and the superxe kernel with the ctt mod posted in Android development forum the mod made a big difference and the phone no longer gets hot like it did before.
Sent from my LG-H811 using XDA Free mobile app
I am having an S6 (920F), but probably switching to the G4.
TL;DR = the S6 lags on scrolling with the stock ROM (COH2 - 5.1.1) and is very unpleasant to use with Chrome. After rooting and installing a custom ROM/kernel it is much more better now, but it really depends on how much ads are on the site (or how much has to be blocked).
Thanks for your contributions but again it has nothing to do with what I'm looking for..
It's not about how smooth it is, the G4 is smooth but it's about responsive scrolling. It's not about how fast the phone is to open apps or how fast/slow animations are. This thread is about responsive scrolling.
The moment you put your finger on the screen and scroll up or down, how fast it is able to follow your finger. The G4 doesn't do a good job and feels like it's "wobbly". Do it fast, and compare with a Galaxy phone.
It's not lag or stutter.
I know exactly what you are describing and I can tell you side by side right now my g4 is more responsive than my iPhone. Until I put the custom rom\kernel and applied the mod this wasn't the case. My phone responds instantly when scrolling no lag at all when scrolling it is instant for me
Sent from my LG-H811 using XDA Free mobile app
I've owned the S5 before and do not think that is in any way smoother (responsive scrolling!!) in scrolling than the G4 in any part of the phone. Even after debloating the S5 it still was not smoother than my G4 is now.

I can't put a custom rom as I don't have unlocked bootloader. I don't really need a custom ROM anyways as the phone runs great. I just miss that instant scrolling.

Not sure what S5 you had but the S5 I have here is super smooth. It does stutter because touchwiz is heavy but it is really smooth and smoother than the G4 in most apps, probably due to the 1080p screen vs 2k screen.
The scrolling on the S5 is instant and responds to my fingers instantly compared to G4.

LG G3 Dual-LTE ( d858hk) Nexus like rom

Hey guys,
I just received this phone from work, iI was pretty hyped at the beginning but now i returned to my Nexus 5.
I got so used with the buttery smooth interface and simplicity that now i dislike this interface G3 is offering, which to me, it honestly feels super slow.
So basically what I would like to do is turn the G3 to a Nexus for obvious reasons (more ram, better camera, better screen, battery, sound, etc.).
I don't care about the IR blaster or knock feature, i just want a better Nexus
Is there such a rom around? Been google-ing, found a marshmallow rom which after further research is not marshmallow, lol.
I am considering CM but not sure if its going to run on g3 dual lte.
help please?
Thanks!
Dan

G4 as slow as my G3

Ok. Guys please don't take offense to this. I LOVE lg and commend them for keeping removable battery and expandable memory. Kudos to them.
I recently swappa'd from the g3 to the g4. At first the difference was great. Huge difference in camera shutter speed. But now my camera freezes half the time in manual mode. Also I have tried with greenify and amplify and without and the phone lags like crazy and gps is always running when it shouldn't be. Even with google.com now disabled it still polls gps.
Granted it has no impact on my battery drain and I'm glad that the g4 has a faster gps lock than the g3. I am probably just being picky here... And truthfully I can't complain. I sold my g3 with box, vr kit, spare battery kit, 3 cases including rare slim guard cch320g, sold for $160 in 45 mins. Lol I wanted to give someone a deal because I had a highly motivated seller that sold this g4 with $90 mugen battery, stock spare battery, 2 cases (a $30 uag), and original box for $230.
All in all yes I would buy this over again and for under $100 difference I have no right to complain....but why do I feel no significant difference? I had my g3 since launch and my previous phone was a droid maxx.
Sorry but going from a blackberry tour to a droid 2 was so awesome. As well as droid 2 to galaxy nexus thanks to SwiftKey. Galaxy nexus to razr maxx hd was amazing. Razr Maxx hd to droid maxx was equally awesome thanks to bootloader unlock.
Droid maxx to lg g3.....I dunno. I felt jipped. Motorola had better radios for sure. But I began to enjoy lg and it's camera.
I played with a v10 yesterday for an hour. I am shocked at the difference in speed because the only difference is more ram really. The speed difference could be in my head? Idk this g4 lags when switching between apps, typing on Google search, etc. I have tried different keyboards and it changes nothing. Even adapting the searching of apps history etc. So slow!
I am not a person that spends more time on the phone. I use a Windows 8 laptop significantly more than a phone. I don't play games of any kind.
Help!
I switched from nexus 4 to lg g3. I was never happy. G3 to me was slow and laggy. I upgraded to G4 and will say that was the true upgrade. It is fast and snappy. I have to admit lg g3 after lollipop update seemed fast. I still own all phones but G4 is the best, would never use G3 back again. From the development point of view Nexus 4 was and still is the best. Hopefully an update to mm will solve problem for you.

We'll see. If not I dunno what I'll do. Even a note 4 dev edition isn't going to be much different.
I guess I'd get a 6p and a battery case when it comes out by zero lemon.
Wish we'd get some roms....

General Anyone else Unimpressed?

I came from a 7 Pro and honestly have been pretty unimpressed with the 9 Pro.
The 7 Pro was probably the first android device that I have had in a long time that didn't give me any issues and the performance from day 1 to this day is amazing.
Now fast Forward I got the 9 pro when it was announced, It feels sluggish in comparison to my 7 pro and has tons of issues with Android Auto.
My biggest complaint is Wifi reception is exceptionally poor, my 7 Pro runs circles around my 9 pro when it comes to wifi reception.
I've tried flashing custom roms on the 9 pro but no matter the device honestly just feels like a turd. So I am back on stock.

My last device was a OP 6T, so the OP 9Pro is several years later.....can't say I I'm having a similar experience. The 120hz beautiful display is buttery smooth. I only use wifi at my house and it's been fine. I personally think the camera is WAY BETTER than my 6t. It may not be Google Pixel quality but it's damn close.
My one and only gripe is the battery life. 6 hour average of SOT is not good.

One thing regarding Android Auto: you have to enable developer options and change the standard USB behaviour to File Transfer.
Honestly over the years coming from 8t but started with 5t and having everyone up. the innovation died after 7 pro. just straight led to death(poor leadership). but with hassleblad and big sensors camera now comes into play. as for the rest of the hardware, well its current hardware what else do I say.. Oxygen is oxygen not the device, so software is equally relevant from previous versions... ltpo is an experiment we'll see how that goes. but to answer, generally I agree not impressed but not upset
If not for 5G, I'd have stuck with my 7 pro (I know I could have gotten a 7t pro but I figured I'd spend a bit more and get something new)
So far, it's not knocking my socks off
I'm done with it. I love the device itself. The design, the hardware, love it. Hell, even love the pine green color. But the software is a complete clusterfuck of inane bugs and failures. I've never seen a device screw up google assistant before, but here we are. It's the only phone (of the 4 sitting on my desk) that doesn't know who my wife is, when I say "call my wife". Android Auto gets completely borked while driving. It doesn't ring when I get a call. A PHONE THAT DOESN'T RING. I'm in sales, and this is my work phone. This is a disaster. Oh, and the mute switch is bugged too, which is really odd. When the phone comes out of DND mode in the morning, it thinks the mute switch is in the silent position, even though it's (always) set to ring. Just silly.
Really annoyed I spent this much money on a phone I can't even use 2 months later. I went back to my S21, which I'm NOT a fan of. But at least it works as it should.
Disappointed with camera tbh can get some nice shots granted but soon as zoom past 3x it all goes pear shaped all the promo hype prior to release with the moons I was expecting at least half decent shots but zoom is terrible out of focus and we'll just crap really very disappointing and collaboration with hassleblad was basically a marketing gymick to fool us into thinking it's going to be a epic camera , oh we fell for that hook line and sinker , let's hope they can turn it around in future updates , not holding my breath , it's odd the moon was big and bright last night a nice orange tinge and looked a lot closer than when held camera up to get a shot it was much further away looking through camera and to get as close as it looked to the naked eye I had to zoom in 20x and we'll then it's just a fuzzy ball , pointless having zoom if it can't get clear shot really

Can only hope so , another thing is The difference is pictures like colours taking same picture multiple times theres no consistency Evey one looks different some out of focus some look brighter some look dull or washy think they need to work harder at getting better consistency especially switching back and forth from wide angle etc it's terrible

WTF dude?
A.) You are ****ed up your phone somehow yourself.
Or
B.) It's broken and you should have it replaced. There is a guarantee
Have you ever tried to reset the device and start over?
I read about software bugs in OxygenOS all the time. But somehow I've never had a problem myself. Before the 9Pro, I never had any problems with the OnePlus 3t also.
My 9 Pro works fine, Fast & never hot. It get's a little worm when it charges, but thats normal.
I am uninmpressed with samsung bs & iphose creap.
I agree it's getting better and better. My issue is that it was pretty bad when first released and some of these bugs should have to post release I think. Just my opinion.
It's getting better ever so slightly. But OOS 11 in my opinion never came out of beta. It ruined the 7 series, and honestly, it is hot GARBAGE on the 9 Pro, the UI/UX issues are annoying, things that just haven't been fixed and things that can be replicated on the 8 Pro that I also have.
The hardware is brilliant and some of the best ever imo (better than the iPhone 12 series), but OnePlus is seriously let down nowadays by their poor software and company decisions. Up until 1.5 years ago I had no issues with OnePlus Support, but now it just seems like customer service is the last thing on their agenda. Fairly disappointed but I guess this is the price to pay for their obvious complacency.
I would say the opposite of OP. Came from a 6T which is still going strong (gave to my sister). 9 pro is like WAY BETTER than 6T. The biggest gripe with oneplus has always been cameras but on 9 pro. It's frigging amazing. Initial reviews of camera were bad but they definitely improved it with updates. That's why didn't buy it staright away. The screen is gorgeous & buttery smooth. I love the curved screen. Always wanted one.
Just 2 issues - The battery life is meh. It's like pretty avg or below avg. The other issue is there is stuttering sometimes due to frame drops sometimes.
No issue with colors OS getting merged with OOS if it improves update speed & stability. They can still improve the camera a bit more. Some shutter lag is still there.

I don't use Android Auto, but I never had any problem with the DND mode. Works perfectly every day. OOS 11.2.9.9 has a few minor bugs, but what phone doesn't? I'm mostly happy with my OP9P. Can't fathom where your "disaster" and "clusterfuck" are coming from.

Literally from the exact things I described in my post. Also you're talking about 9.9, my post was from July and the phone has long since been retired.
