Help - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I got bought a samsung tab s 8.4. Is there anything I can do about the fact I can't transfer anything to my external sd card without voiding the warranty. This 4. firmware is a pain. Thanks all x

No, you cannot.
Try to make the title of your posts better, just 'help' won't help!

My apologies. Was a bit busy when I posted the thread. That's fine thank you for replying.

If you use the built-in file manager, you can add, delete, rename, etc. files on the external SD card. Also, if you connect by cable to your PC, you can do all that directly from there.

Save Ringtone to Main Memory!?

Is this possible!?
I use a ringtone which I've downloaded and saved to the SD card, but when the phone is plugged into my computer, it obviously isn't accessible to the phone!
I've tried moving it to the main phone storage, but it seems that one cant past files into that section of the memory?
Any ideas? (Please dont say root! Thats too much trouble for something as silly as this!)
Many Thanks

Hi, wondered if anyone could advise how to do this on a rooted device? I love the standard Desire Notification sound and have downloaded and added to the SD Card but as with david_inuk when the sd card is mounted it obviously can't access this.
How do i go about adding to the internal memory?
Thanks
If you are rooted you can do it.
For S-ON users: You must do it via ADB from recovery.
FOR S-OFF Users: You can use Root Explorer.
Thanks Dave, got it working through RootExplorer

[Q] SD Card Issues ?

Okay, yes there are a billion posts on this forum about SD Card issues.
I have the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1. I've tried every single SD Card that I own in it. It refuses to recognize any of them.
I know that if I root it and go with a custom rom that this issue is fixed.
I don't want to do that. Is there a way to solve these problems without rooting my device?
Are you talking about the way KitKat handles SD cards differently? If so, that should have no bearing on whether the device "recognizes" the SD cards or not; its just how apps are permissioned to write to the SD: http://www.androidcentral.com/kitkat-sdcard-changes
Nor should you have to root and/or use a custom ROM in order to simply use the SD cards.
Can't speak to the Tab Pro 10.1 specifically. But on my Tab Pro 8.4, I've tried 2 different SD cards, and both worked just fine with the 8.4 able to read the existing media files on them.
Have you tried formatting the cards to FAT32? How many cards exactly have you tried? Saying you "tried very SD card you own" doesn't tell us anything. For all we know, you own one. Of course, presumably its more than one. But please give some actual quantities. And I assume they are confirmed to work on other devices, but again you haven't stated that information.

Hi
did you find any solution to your problem of sdcard not recognized?
I just bought an SM-T520 tablet(tab pro 10.1) today, and I tried 4 sdcards (sdhc) that work fine on my phone, but none is recognized.
Thanks
Try NextAppSDfix https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix&hl=de

I finally managed to fix the issue, i had to format the card in ntfs format and it was suddenly recognized by the tablet!
How do I?

How do I format an sd card like you did? I'm having the same issue when I put in sd cards in my galaxy pro tablet as well.

I had the same issue with my Tab pro 10.1 for quite some time. Tried everything, from formatting with different fs to replacing the sd card.
Then, I opened the back cover from the tablet and it appeared that the flat ribbon cable of the sd card reader was not properly fit. I just pressed it back into, and now the tablet reads and writes the sd card again. Hope this help someone.

[Q] Moving files from internal to external storage

Hi there,
As we all know there is an issue with moving files from internal to external storage due to implements from kitkat.
I was just wondering if there is a was a solution to this without rooting?
I am unrooted and was hoping there was a fix for it.
Thanks in advance.

I have been looking into this, the past 3 days and from my research I could say the answer is... no.
Everything I found on the net requires root access.
On my previous phone, a Note 3, I faced the same issue and when I formated the ext sd from within the phone, the problem mysteriously went away and I had -full- access to the ext sd.
Tried it on the M8 but no luck.
Why dont you also give it a try (after backing up your ext sd ofcourse) and tell me if you had any result.
My M8 is international version by the way. No carriers.

I'm rooted but I think I remember being able to transfer files between the internal and external storage by connecting my phone to my computer and doing it on my computer. Try that if you haven't already.
yes

Yes my friend, via pc it is possible. I suppose the OP,like myself, is looking for a solution from within the phone.
Thanks.

With the Update to 4.4.3 HTC included a file explorer to give a solution for this kitkat security feature. I already flashed the OTA to 4.4.3 aka firmware 2.22.401.4 and in fact moving files from the internal storage to sd card works with the file explorer delivered by HTC.
Hope this answer helps!?

[Q] Can't write to external SD card

I have a brand new Tab S 8.4, received today. I discovered that I cannot write to or erase the external SD card with 1 exception. I can only perform operations on the external SD card if 1) I do it via MTP from my laptop or 2) using Samsung built-in apps For example, I can copy/rename/delete/etc. files using Samsung's My Files app and I can save pictures from the camera to the external SD card. Most downloaded apps (like cameras, document editors, browsers, etc.) will not save to the external SD card. To be clear, I can copy and move files FROM the external SD card using apps such as ES File Explorer.
I tried reformatting the SD card, even tried other SD cards, always the same result. Is there something wrong with my device or the stock firmware? The tab is pretty useless to me without ability to write to the SD card and I don't really like being limited to the stock apps. So, is this something I can fix, that Samsung can fix, or do I have a lemon?

OK, did that. All I learned is that I have to root the tab which I hadn't planned on doing. Grrrrrr. Luckily, I am technical enough to do it, but most buyers are not. IMO Samsung should be pushing back hard on Google about this. It involves tens of millions of their customers, plus those of all the other manufacturers as well. These devices ain't cheap, so if I spend my money on one, I want it to work as expected with stock software. There's no point in Google singing the glories of KK and beyond if the OS doesn't do what a normal userI needs it too. When LG did its OTA update to KK for the G Pad 8.3, it allowed writing to the external SD, proving it can be done from the device provider.
it just not with samsung... the problem are with kitkat. so every device that use kitkat will have the same problem. LG/MOTO/TC/whatever android device also got the same problem. except some play smart and include the edited platform.xml into their device.

At least via the Samsung-provided apps (camera, browser, file manager) it's possible to write to and erase from the external SD card. Still, it's a sad state of affairs this far into the Android game. And this business with tripping the knox counter when rooting really is annoying. I wonder what Apple offers these days ?

[Q] SD CARD-'File Not Found' errors

Hi all,
Just a quick question. I have the tab s 10.5 t800 non rooted (at this stage). I am having trouble with the sd card. The problem is that when I transfer some files to my tablet from my PC when I go to access them sometimes it comes up with 'file not found'. This seems to happen a lot when I transfer comics across from my computer to the tablet. Initially they are there and I can access them but then when I got to access them later its telling me the file isn't found.
Is this because I'm not rooted? I have read that kitkat doesn't like writing to external sd card but this is from computer to tablet so I thought would be okay.
Any advice greatly appreciated
Cheers

The Tab S seems to be incredibly picky as to which SD cards play nice and which do not, even across the same brand/model of card.
Try a different card.
I've detailed my own SD issues in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/help/galaxy-tab-s-deleted-sd-card-files-t2971447
thanks mate Ill check it out. Appreciate your reply
I typically swap cards from an old device to a newer one... phone, tablet, etc. This time, I took the Sandisk 64gb card from my Acer A700 and installed it into my 10.5" Tab S and... it read as a blank card. Back into the A700 and it read fine. Checked on my PC and no errors. I finally resolved all issues by transferring all my data to my PC, installing the card into the Tab S, letting the tablet format the card, and then transferring all the files back over USB. Everything's working great now, but geez... seriously?
