I blocked the IP they requested the site from - but otherwise it didn't seem to be operating properly.

how about making it something more interesting? I am addicted to XDA but go straight to the forums because the home page rarely has anything interesting to read. Surely there must be more you can do here? You have such a captive audience!
Have you noticed the last news article

They actually come from : http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=264
The home page is a Portal Application for vBullentin (the forum software). Whilst I accept it is pretty simple. It does give links to the useful areas of the site, an introduction and a news service. That's everything I need

Strange page, I never saw it before...
I think I prefer the original page
I have been a memeber in this site about 2 years. But I can not post a URL. Can this be enabled for me?
You can ask a Mod, as you only have 3 posts
Is there a certain # of posts after which it just works?
Answered via PM.
pm me the limit too. I was trying to put URLs in there too and it is quite annoying.

You should be over the limit now.

if anyone knows the location of (and how to get at) the i9000 wallpapers, I would love the one European-looking one with the blue sky and white-ish buildings with people walking down the middle.
Sent pm (can´t post links due non excisting post count...)

I got spam mail to a unique address I registered with xda-developers.
The address is not readable publicly and isn't findable in Google.
If anybody with the site is interested I can provide details.

Not sure we can help, but yes, send me a PM with the details.
We do not sell or otherwise distribute email addresses. email addresses can "leak" out from many places, from your PC and from contact lists on your phone. This is happening to an increasing extent on mobile devices: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/logging-test-by-treve-sassibob-review/
OK I sent you a PM but it doesn't show up in my PM Sent folder so if you didn't get it let me know here. I'm certain the compromise didn't come from my phone as the address I use is only for this forum registration and not any other purpose.

Received your PM and will have it looked into.
Also activated the option for you to have sent PMs saved in your sent mail folder.

To satisfy my curiosity, do you use the XDA App / Tapa Talk / Forum Runner / etc?
HI everyone,
I have found topic about 10 post before be able to post in dev fora.
but none about 10 post before be able to post links, so why a such policy ?
Don't just reply to avoid spam, we all guess that, but it could be possible to automatically monitor new user, and if the post a lot of link a modo will be alerted to check him, you could also in this automated function include banned/suspicious rule url. so like that modo will be notified before anyone trigger the alarm
Cya
Why?
Because that's how it is..
I mean is 10 post that much that you needed to open a thread for it ?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Thx but "Because that's how it is.." don't really reply to my question.
and no 10 post is not too much but when you want communicate an url at your first post (and without you post mean nothing) then yes 10 post is too much

Just get 10 posts and then post all the url's you want you said it its not too much so there is no need to make a thread for it...

As you may see that XDA is a huge site do it won't be very easy to moderate every new link new users post. Also, there is a restriction from posting in Development forum but that doesn't mean that spams are allowed in other forums. Most spambots have intentions to promote a specific site or advertisement, sometimes profane things, so as to check against it, this rule has been made. However, you are free to suggest something better of you have it in your mind

It is to prevent spammers from posting links. If you want to post it before then, you will need to post it like http: //xda-developers.com. People will figure out how to make it work.
Since you are new here, you may want to give this a read: [GUIDE] - XDA New User Guide - Getting started on XDA
Thank you,

Reactive checking of individual users is simply not possible on a site this size - spammers would spam to get their links visible for a few minutes. The simplest solution is to prevent users with less than 10 posts from posting external links, full stop. This puts off spammers.
