TWRP turns on while updating to Lollipop - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there. Sorry for creating such a stupid thread but, unfortunately, I am a complete newbie in modding android.
I have s-off and rooted my m8 using sunshine method. Right now, when I wanted to update to lollipop, a TWPR turns on and I got no bloody idea what to do.
Logic tells me that I have to find a new ver of Lollipop and install it through the TWPR but I got no idea how to find it/install it.
My android version is 4.4.4
Software version 3.28.401.9
HTC SDK API 6.25
Compilation 3.2.8.401.9 CL389833
My phone is not branded.
Id really like to be told what and how to update my phone.
Thanks in advance.

You need the stock recovery to supply an ota update

Could you tell me how to do that? I am really confused because I know nothing about it. What programmes/files shall I use/install?
I shall use your guide to return my m8 to 100% stock, aigh? And then, what? How to supply the ota update?.
Ill be really thankful.

You need to replace twrp with the correct stock recovery for your phone. Check in your settings/about/software information/software number . This is the version number you need to know when you download the stock recovery. There is a thread in the "general" section that has all the stock recoveries. Flash the stock recovery (again, find the thread that tells you how to) then unroot the phone using superSU from within the app . Reboot and then take the ota update. This should then update you to lollipop. Then, if you want to, you will have to flash custom recovery and re-root.

Is this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2694994 a good one?
I am really lost, lol.

Is the phone rooted as well? Have you made any other modifications to the phone?
the update wont flash through twrp since its a custom recovery. (thats what I know)
anyways, assuming that you have your bootloader unlocked and a custom recovery installed, why dont you just do a backup of ur current rom and flash a new custom rom like viper or insert coin. they provide the latest updates.

You're getting different advice cause you're double-posting and not sticking to one person's advice
Me and most people do have life's families & jobs we just don't sit here to help people out as I have mentioned before I give you loads of information to help you and as so as other me members. We all wasn't born to know how to root and unlock bootloaders or get s-off some people know more and they write great information on how to do it now go and use Google and the search function what is implemented into xda to stop multiple posts.

First of all, apologies for such a question.
Im lost. Its been a long time since i browsed through this forum. I have my at&t m8 running slimkat 4.4.4 and twrp 2.8.1.0. Cant seem to update twrp, stuck on entering recovery. Right now i would like to update to lollipop but i dont knw where to start. Can someone please pin point me the procedures. What i need to do prior. Thanks in advance.
Update: I followed the guide to upgrade via fastboot. Successfully installed but every time I install a lollipop Rom I don't have signal. The only way I get signal back is if I revert with a nandroid backup sense. Under software info in settings my imei doesn't show up
Any help would be appreciated

Have you checked the at&t subforum here for the M8, did you check the stock backup and firmware thread in the general section ?
Get a official stock backup, preferably a lower based one than your software is numbered now and update via official HTC updates again.

I don't think AT&T firmware will ever allow you to install lollipop. Your S-off convert your phone to Developer edition and you can update all the way to 4.16.1540.8

I will test out the developer edition once everything else I can try fails. I managed to install lollipop but I just don't have any signal and it seems simcard is not detected. I'm thinking I probably skipped a firmware. So I'll revert back to the oldest firmware on Att and update via ota ...if that fails I will go the developer route. Then I'll let u know. Thanks

M8 rooted - flashing roms?!

Hello all! I badly need some help! Other forums have been unsuccessful. I currently have a rooted S-off M8 (Uk version) When i rooted my phone i used TWRP and did not create a stock recovery.
After delaying the OTA update due to being rooted id now like to upate my phone as im still running 4.4.4.
If it helps i have the TWRP manager app installed with the latest recovery 2.8.7.0 on. Im getting confused between RUU and flashing custom recovery. All id like to do is to update my phone to the new 5.0 lollypop. I dont mind how to do it or what i need to do just need someone to explain it in simple terms. I do apologize, i am a noob when it comes to this!
Any help would be much apperciated!

Stock recovery won't help on a rooted ROM. You need a clean ROM either a clean backup or RUU.
Post your fastboot getvar all result (minus serial & imei no.), someone may be able to help you

The 2 are not at all related.
Custom recovery (such as TWRP) is user created, and installed to the recovery partition of the phone, and allows you to make backups of the current ROM and data partition; and to flash custom ROMs and other flashable zips.
RUU = ROM Update Utility. Its an "official" HTC executable run from the PC that will return your phone to stock image, including stock ROM, recovery, firmware, and all other partitions. There are also RUUs that can be run from the phone. But that's mostly the exception.

Updating via OTA with modified system

I'm sure there's a guide somewhere but I couldn't find one clear enough. I recently got my HTC 10 to replace my Galaxy S4 GPE and have a question. This is my first update after rooting my phone, and I received an OTA message today. With my s4, all i needed to do to update was use ODIN. I know it's different with the HTC 10, but want to be 100% sure I'm doing this right. From what I've read I need to:
1. Mount system as read only via twrp and restore my original system-image (which I did make)
2. Flash stock recovery
3. Boot into Android and take the OTA.
4. Flash TWRP and make a backup in read only mode of system-image (for the sake of convenience with future OTAs)
5. Flash supersu.
Is this right? I read some where that having an unlocked bootloader would make an error occur when taking the OTA. Is this right? How do you guys update? Does flashfire work with HTC 10 and how do I use it? I'm s-on, does that matter? I have the factory unlocked version of the HTC 10. I'm terrified of something going wrong during the update process. Any help is greatly appreciated.

That's exactly right.
Never relock your bootloader. It's completely unnecessary and can only cause problems if you don't know exactly what you're doing. And again, it's completely unnecessary. People love to throw that idea out as a troubleshooting suggestion. Don't do it.
That's exactly how I update.
Used flashify to root my Samsung tablet once. I've never used it once on any of my HTC devices, so I can't offer any advice on that. I don't really see why it would be necessary though.
S-on/off does not matter for this process.
I hope this answers all of your questions. Good luck.

Unfortunately the error I read about mentioning a modified file system showed up. I followed this guide and got errors and managed to recover from a bootloop. I think I will just wait a while and use a RUU to restore and update.
EDIT: and now I get the same error with my old backup. I think I messed up the "mount system as read only" part because I do remember flashing System over but if it was read only it should have given me an error?

It's not that complicated. Are you getting the System Corrupt error when you try to download the OTA?
If so, you have a few options for updating.
1) try the experimental option I'm working on in this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/guide-how-to-ota-receive-corrupt-message-t3378187)
2) RUU (the 1.90 ruu is available now I think, but if not, just use 1.80 then OTA
3) flash signed firmware to update your firmware and then use someone's system backup to update the system files

Im not getting any error, I`m just checking on how to revert back to stock and not screw up something in the process lol.
I thought you can only flash an RUU which main version is the same as your phone or newer (capt. throwback wrote that in his twrp topic).
Anyway, looks like flashing an RUU is the safest way.

That's correct about the RUU needing to be same or newer. What are you currently on? I assumed since you're wwe and trying to OTA then you were on 1.80.401.3.
RUU is definitely the safest way.

Stock H3G_001 or info on how to update

Hi everyone, first time posting here.
I've recently purchased a HTC 10 from a friend. I'm looking to upgrade it to android version 7
The phone has TWRP recovery but no back up of a stock untouched ROM, ive tried looking for a stock UK H3G ROM (H3G_001) but I've been unable to find 1.
Could someone give me a little help on how to update my phone, possibly an idiot proof step by step guide. i just want the latest version available for my phone.
Thanks
Try this thread from a few weeks ago:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/help/stock-rom-required-htc-10-cid-h3g001-t3627726
Obviously you'd need a stock backup that matches the version you currently have.

So, if your system is rooted or modified in any way, you'll need to flash a stock system backup, matching the firmware version you currently have. Then flash stock recovery, and you'd be able to take the OTA.
If your system is already untouched, you would just need to flash the stock recovery, again matching your firmware version, and then take the OTA. There is a recovery for 6.0.1 in that link, but I'm not sure if it's for your firmware version. You could try to flash it and see if the OTA works.
Thinking about it more, if you're able to download the ota I think the best thing to do is to flash the OTA using twrp manually. See instructions in the faq located in the twrp thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ht...ery-twrp-touch-recovery-t3358139/post66347165
If you follow the instructions, you should be able to take the OTA including firmware, and not have to worry about restoring anything stock first.
