[Q] Bluetooth headset + call = no network - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone,
I am happily using the following on my N7100:
Agni Kernel 4.3.7
UNOFFICIAL CM 12 build (15.12.2015 release)
I came from using the nightly CM11 builds with the applicable Agni kernel and used that up to 3 weeks ago. I encountered an issue however which made me take the step from CM 11 to CM 12 and it is as follows:
Whenever I connect my car/headset/whatever to my phone via BT, the connection is perfectly fine. Listening to music works like a charm so nothing wrong there. However, whenever I receive or place a call and the phone is about to connect, the network completely vanishes. I get an error that I am out of the service area and it takes a good 5 minutes at least (with BT still connected) to get reconnected to my cellular network. Whenever I turn BT off, the network comes back in a few seconds.
I tried using the standard kernel to no avail. Normal calling (i.e without BT connected) works fine. It seems to be specific with BT connected and making a call or receiving one. Having BT turned on (no connection) and placing or receiving a call works perfectly fine as well. What can I try to resolve this or better yet; does anyone else have these issues? Could this be a hardware failure? What I can try or have tried thus far for troubleshooting:
Tried:
1. Dirty flash from CM 11 to CM 12 --> nope
2. Clean wipe and install to CM 12--> nope
3. ( I read this somewhere else) Turned on 'only connect to 2G networks'. I seem to be able to get a call *sometimes*, but the call drops midway or is garbled with high pitched noises
4. Turned off Data Connection completely whilst BT is connected to make a call --> nope
Can try:
1. Revert to stock ROM to exclude issues with CM ROMS (this does mean going back to 4.4.4/4.4.2 sadly )
2. Try another Lollipop ROM as opposed to the one from Ivan_Meler (Clicky)
3. ????????
I did look at the forums here and everywhere else I could think off on the net/Google but I did not find anything really close to what I am seeing. Unless my Google-fu has failed me for which you have my sincerest apologies
Cheers!

I have the same problem sometimes. On a Bluetooth call, network signal drops and call is ended or a loud distortion and call is dropped. I had this on RR ROM cm12 and now on cyanogen mod x rom to. This is a cm12 bug as far as I know.
Its odd that this only occurs sometimes. Its not the modem that is causing it, it is a cm12 bug

I have the same problem. No matter if i connect to the car/headset bluetooth, I cannot make a call. Actually, the phone at the other end rings once and meanwhile my phone says "Cellular network not available". However, without BT I have no network error.

Still issues on handsfree loosing connection

I'm, also having this problem. I saw once a recommendation to replace radio or modem, can't remember which.
Anybody got any knowledge in this direction?
Possibly pointing in the direction of a flashable modem or radio???
Please help! I can't stand having to rely on stock or custom TW.

I did flash the latest modem available for my region (Europe) - UFOA1, but same behavior. Something did improve when I switched from 5.0 to 5.1, though: I can, sometimes, successfully receive phone calls via bluetooth, from ringing until hanging up. But still not able to call from my phone.

Bluetooth car audio issues on CM11 and 12
I got the same issue with the dropped 3g when calling from car audio.
No connection
CM isn't reliable so I m back to touch wizz where it still works.
Tired of not getting newer android updates.
Waiting for the new nexus to arrive. Hopefully soon
No more Sammy!

Please Help - Signal Drops + Forced Calls to voicemail

This issue seems to be all over the place, but I'm having extreme problems getting it fixed.
My GSM galaxy nexus regularly loses all signal everywhere I normally get full bars.
Also, sometimes I'll look at it WITH signal, and it enables Call forwarding and leaves that on until I go into the settings and try to disable it. (There is no option to disable it tho...it just automatically disables after it takes a minute to load call forwarding settings).
Has anyone else been having these problems and been able to fix it? I flashed new radios, roms, kernels....everything! And I just can't get the problem solved. Recently I flashed the UGLC1 radio and that worked for a couple days but now it's just as bad as it ever was.

if youre on stock just update to IMM76I thats the build just released to solve these issues
if your on a custom rom you may want to flash a kernel that has incorporated these fixes GLaDOS 1.30 for example

[Q] losing wifi connectivity- full bars but all gray

so, I've read around here on the XDA forum about problems with wifi connectivity where we have full bars for wifi but they are gray and you are not getting out. many describe my situation but I've not seen any real solutions...
my problem is that I can connect to my wifi router without issue but then a random amount of time later, sometimes fairly quickly and sometimes it's hours later, I will pick up the phone and see full bars but they are gray and I'm not getting out. I can try opening a terminal window and pinging the gateway/dns servers and can't even reach the gateway.
things I have tried:
- turned off MAC filtering on the wifi AP
- switched from a 5 GHZ wifi on the AP to 2.4 GHZ net on the AP and vice versa
- manually set the phone wifi preference to one or the other (5 or 2.4)
- battery pull on the phone
- delete network settings for my AP and reconfigure
I have not yet tried a static IP config on the phone but I can easily try that... {edited to add} well, I tried static config and that didn't help at all...
one other tidbit of info, I have a work Blackberry with wifi and it never loses wifi connectivity so this is a problem unique to my Nexus.
I'm running Cyanogen 10.0.0-toro and no, I haven't tried a full wipe and reload yet.
thoughts or suggestions?
I'm not trying to threadjack here, but I just wanted to share my experiences.
I've been have the exact same thing happen to my phone (Nexus maguro). I've tried every JB rom I could find, several different kernels and my wifi eventually always goes grey on me. All network activities stop. I'm back on stock everything right now and it still happens.
It happens on my home wifi as well as work wifi.
I'm about to puttstock ICS on my phone and try that out for a couple days.
Anyway, good luck with your problems, i'm going to follow this thread in hopes you'll get a solution that may help me.
If I do figure anything out i'll post back.

seems that this is a topic that has been posted on a bit over time with no real single culprit or fix. I'll post back if I figure anything out... I know in the Cyanogen thread, I saw info that stated that the MAC address of the phone was changing and I'm going to try and determine if that is happening to mine.
I have the same issue. Sometimes even when i pick up the phone, if i look fast enough i see that the Wi-Fi bars weren't even there! Thats only 1 out of 5 times though. The other time its usually just grey bars. Sometimes it actually will click back and they'll flash to blue and grey 2-3 times and then go solid blue. Then sometimes like you, they'll stay grey. I've tried everything too...reverting to stock, Different kernels, ROMs, routers, static IP, 2.4 or 5ghz, full auto mode. The only fix that makes it a little more reliable, is using Wi-Fi PM Fast. But even that, is not reliable. I'd say its about 50% reliable then, for a huge sacrfice in battery life. For me i've noticed this started to happen with 4.2. Before that i never had a problem. All other devices though no problem. My Nexus 7 is just fine. But the galaxy nexus, no matter what router or where i am, the Wi-Fi is totally unreliable. For me, it happens within 2 minutes that it will disconnect most times. Then 1 in 10 times it'll be fine for 10 hours.
In all honesty, i've given up. Just come to deal with it. Use mobile networks when i'm not needing to download. I can download files and stream music just fine too. If there is traffic going through, it never disconnects. But when its just sitting there without traffic, it disconnects, or, loses connection to google servers i should say.
well that's not good to hear...
I installed stock 4.0.4 a couple days ago and have not had my wifi go grey on me yet.

yeah, I love Cyanogen so not willing to go back to stock... waiting for them to finish 10.1 and I guess I'll see how it behaves then.
Hi all,
Just to say that I have the same problem. I have been upgraded from ICS to 4.2 and nothing had happened but I had to downgrade to 4.1.1 (AOKP Build 4) due to other issues and after that I started notice the WiFi problem.
At first I thought it was when the screen went off, but I has happened with screen on too. I have to turn WiFi off and the back on to connect properly again, very annoying.
As I said I started noticing this after I downgraded, but then again, I had used AOKP 4.1.1 before without this issue. I think that it is time to change my phone :/

I'm on Muzzy 4.2.2 and I'm currently having the same problem. It's not a new problem since I remember having it months ago (disabled my phone's WiFi because I kept missing emails and other notifications - grew tired of dealing with it). I thought it was my router, so I swapped it with a newer one recently, but it carried forward (old router was TRENDnet Draft N and the new one is ASUS RT-N66U).
I would like to know how to properly troubleshoot this problem.
I'm glad I didnt have to create a thread for this. I have been facing this problem quite a lot. I can confirm that WiFi works absolutely fine until 4.1.2, whether it is stock or CM10 (I havent tried the other ROMs yet). I have faced this problem only from 4.2. It still exists on 4.2.2. Happens on all the ROMs I have tried till now including CM10.1 nightly as well as the stock factory image.
When the phone is sleeping, it seems to lose WiFi connectivity and when woken up, the WiFi bars is grey though it is full. If I am very lucky, it will turn blue automatically. Most of the times, I have to switch WiFi off and back on for it to connect properly.
Anyone knows the root cause for this? In case this has been discussed in any other thread?

have you posted this information over in any of the threads where the developers are working such as Cyanogen in an effort to bring this issue to the forefront for more visibility?
I have had those wifi problems with every android version and rom I had on my GNex as far as I can remember.
Sometimes it will be able to reconnect but sometimes I have to disable and re-enable wifi to get it back.
I too thought that it might have been my crappy router as I have had multiple problems with it over the years (some Linksys router).
This is really annoying because it won't receive any e-mails until I randomly decide to have a look at my phone. :/

trust me, I understand your frustration... some days, I can go almost all day without loosing wifi data throughput and other days it won't last 10 minutes without going to gray bars.
unfortunately, no one is sharing any fixes which tells me that no one has a good handle on the problem.
Same issue for me on stock Android 4.2.2. Leave WiFi on overnight and when I wake up its connected to WiFi but gray bars...

The update to 4.2.2 drivers have fixed all WiFi issues for me. For the first time since 4.1 I can now use WiFi optimization now. And WiFi is fully reliable.

same thing happened to me on toroplus sourcery 5.1, after trying everything i could think of and talking to one of the devs, i finally did a fresh download of rom and gapps. wiped cache, wiped dalvik, factory reset, wipe system, deleted android folder off of storage then installed the fresh download of rom and gapps and its been working great for me since. hope this helps.

Can you elaborate on this? I've flashed 5 different modems and still get this problem... it happens to my cell service bars, as well. Would love to know what the cause is.

i just know ever since moving to a 4.2.2 kernel that has the 4.2.2 drivers my wifi has been stable. I know there was a post in the anarkia thread with the ak kernel that had the drivers. but i believe most any 4.2.2 kernel would have them implemented. i do have the newest bootloader and radio too. but i know as soon add i got the 4.2.2 drivers all issues were resolved wifi wise. of course i think if you have a 4.2.2 kennel you'll have them.

I'm looking forward to that update - I've been watching the Cyanogen threads for when I think the 10.1 has matured enough to become my daily driver... good to know you've had positive results!

me facing same issues , Solution would be to use an app called wifi fixer by zanish-g1 from the play store ...
it worked for me !! :good:

Toro Network Drops, 4.2.2 and 4.3

Hey guys - my VZW Gnex (it's a refurb to replace my old one with a bad screen) has been having excessive network dropouts lately. When I boot the phone, it doesn't acquire signal for over a minute, when I place a call I lose signal afterwards, and data drops out randomly. The device will say it's connected (blue bars), although I cannot use the internet. Also, it'll randomly loose cellular connectivity, although indicate that it has signal. I'll go to send a text and it'll immediately have send errors, and I am unable to make or receive calls, even though it shows I have signal. To fix, a reboot is always necessary. This has happened on 4.3 (crDroid) and 4.2.2 (CM 10.1.3 stable). It has happened across all the different radios, 4.0.4 and up, and across several different kernels. Does anyone have suggestions, the phone isn't really usable if people can't get in touch and I'm unaware that they can't.
EDIT: When I go into the phone info menu *#*#4636*#*# when the radio has no data, it says preferred network is "unknown." If I change it, the setting immediately goes back to unknown.
U might need to go through the insurance and get another one.

This is a known issue with 4.3 ROMs. I'm not sure about 4.2.2. It looks like CM 10.2 may have a fix for it in the next nightly. One known fix is to edit build.prop to include
ro.telepohny.default_cdma_sub=0
Thank has worked for me.

I have tested a lot of ROMs on my M8 and I agree that the WiFi password and speakerphone thing is pretty common.
The Gummy ROM is supposed to have a fix in the latest nightly but it did not fix the speakerphone problem for me.
WiFi password is persistent, but I had to blacklist the DSP Manager or it crashes all the time.
That was supposed to be fixed also, I though.
I am still looking for a reliable ROM with a working speakerphone.
The limitations in Sense ROMs don't do it for me, namely that tethering via USB only works over your data plan.
It deliberately turns off WiFi...

Need more info....download samsung phone info and post a screenshot of the firmware tab. If your bootlader and baseband dont match, theres your problem. If they do, try reflashing stock (twice) then doing a tactory reset from the stock recovery right after. If after that the issue is still present....probably something else.....mabey hardware related. Good luckl
Do you use bluetooth? I had a very similar problem and figured out that the only time I had call audio was when I was using a bluetooth headset or the bluetooth in my car. I don't know what sets it off but I've done some searching on this problem and it appears to be common among GSM GS4 owners, and even doing stuff like a complete reset doesn't fix it.
The one fix that I did find, that helped some people, was to go into Google Now and disable "Okay Google" detection from any screen. Several people found that that worked. But I didn't have that feature enabled anyway so it didn't apply.
I don't know if the same problem occurs with CDMA GS4s; my wife has a Sprint GS4 and doesn't have the problem but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I think it was just AT&T and T-Mobile GS4 owners who reported this.

I don't have Bluetooth, I've tried it with a wired headset and even that didn't work, but what's so puzzling about this is that my calling works fine with Facebook messenger calling feature, hangouts and things like that

Edit:
Nevermind. It worked twice then I tried calling a different phone and it broke again. I will keep searching and update.

I have had this issue intermittently for the past year. It was fixed for about 6 months then two weeks ago started occurring again. Today I flashed a new Rom (PacMan) and the M919UVUFOK3_M919TMBFOK3_TMB firmware. That did not fix it. I was connecting to a 5Ghz WiFi so on a whim I forgot that network and made a call without WiFi enabled. Call worked!
So I connected to my 2.4Ghz WiFi and it is working again. I would try turning off WiFi and see if your calls go through if so it could be 5Ghz or the router...maybe a forget network / reconnect to network will fix it consistently.
Hope this helps you and if anything new comes up I will let you know.
So an update. I finally just gave up on it. My wife had an old phone I remembered (from 2 - 3 years ago) that was ran over and the digitizer broke. I just took her guts and put it in my phone and now it magically works. Hopefully it stays that way.
Should have done this years ago as my phone would no longer charge with the USB Cable nor was my SD Card accessible. Now it is all functioning right again.

My bootloader is nb4 and baseband is foh3, but it's been that way for a while now, and this problem is only recently, also I've tried that and it didn't work

So after flashing stock NB4 twice.....and factory resetting after from stock recovery, your still not getting call audio?.....doesnt make sense....try again and make sure the bootloader and baseband match.....and dont reboot into download from the OS.
For anyone having issues with no call audio through cell service but for some reason it works through data calls through whats app or facebook messenger, etc ,i have been having the same problem for awhile now. I believe i have traced it to be a hardware issue with the middle frame, when looking at the phone with the battery cover open on the top right over by where there are two markings R1 and L1. There is a module there labeled J-AT TMGA 7-3. When i was having issues i noticed that if i put slight pressure on that module my audio would fade back in on the call but if i put too much pressure it goes away again. If it is a hardware connectivity issue it would explain why slunked was able to get his phone working again by changing the guts in the unit. Im currently waiting for a middle frame and a blue cable for the antenna to confirm if this is indeed the issue.
