multirom? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

just wondering if anyone has either tried, or if there's a reason they haven't - to port MultiROM to the Galaxy Nexus?
We have TWRP, we have an unlockable bootloader, custom kernels(which we could easily port the kexec patch to), and MultiROM looks fairly easy to port.(reasonably so, anyway)
So I'm just wondering - before trying myself - whether there have been previous attempts, and whether or not it's possible(if not, why?)
Thanks!

Anything new about it ? I'm interested too

No dual-boot?

I installed Cyanogenmod right away when I got my 5x and camera performance doesn't seem right. I'd like to set up dual-boot and install Android alongside Cyanogenmod to test it but it sounds like that is impossible on the 5x. Is that true?
If so, what is the best way to make a backup that I can use to restore the phone to its current state so I can wipe it and install Android to test the camera?
There was a setup for other phones that let you do this. I think it was called MultiROM. I had used it on a OnePlus One. There was a patch that needed to be compiled into the kernel (kexec hardboot). I used it for KitKat - not sure if it could still be done for android 5 or 6.
MultiROM isn't available for the Nexus 5x unfortunately. I've used it on my Nexus 5.
Any changes to this? Any way to multiboot the 5x?

Elephone B Version 2016 CyanogenMod 13 ?

it was funny how I realized mine was the new version now
I made this thread here so you guys can discuss, this is for information to others who have gotten the new elephone
1) How do we get root ?
No, there isnt any proper recovery last @Emileh ported it did not work very well you are able to flash it the recovery but you are unable to boot back into the system it just stuck at the elephone logo.
2) as of now we only have one rom that has been up here and running K06TE-A.A.vR14.E1.160707 (2016 Version)
K05TS-A.A.vR1E.E2.160217 (2015 Version)
3) cosmetic mixed up (happens alot on chinese phone)
my front is the old 2015 version cover but my back is the new fingerprint cover (possible you can confirm with that is the new elephone you have if you are not sure.
4) so no root and no cyanogenmod and no recovery ?
as of now Im not sure about root, cause I did tried to flash recovery from @Emileh but I could not boot back to android os, so we cant flash supersu,
kingroot and others dont work !
also there some memory layout changed, so it will render the android 5.1 roms useless, please dont try unless you know what you are doing and know how to recover from mediatek usb port
5) will CyanogenMod 13 work ?
to be honest we need a fully working recovery.
maybe there can explain and clear anything more that I left out, I have just gotten the phone
@skeleton1911 @BlueFlame4 @Emileh @Deepflex
somehelp would be nice. thanks would be nice to get cm13 for both the 2015 and 2016 working
Hey,
well the 2015 and 2016 versions are basically two different devices - despite having the same name they share very little. A unified CM 13 build is thus not only difficult to establish but I would even say that it makes things more complex than developing two single versions. That said, CM 13 for the 2016 should be rather easy to bring up because it ships with 6.0. Basically you could take Deepflex's P9000 tree, change it according to the 2016_P8000 and boom - should work. With that you can then of course also compile a working recovery to achieve root That's the theory at least
Is that so but we have yet to achive root and figure out what is the internal changes between those two? Maybe @Deepflux can lend a helping hand in this wish you could help out @BlueFlame4, cause I finally had the money to get this phone possible if you could look into the recovery issue on why it does not boot after flashing it aka bootloop at elephone logo
** Attempted to Port and it does not work. did repack twice.
Hey. Just saw this topic.
I made a better version of the recovery (but forgot to post it), which is actually able to flash roms. It now also mounts everything properly. Flashing root on stock rom works 100%. (only thing not working in ADB, I think).
I will upload it later.
Problem is, there are no roms (expect stock, which you flash using SP Flash Tools). You can't flash the roms that other have made for the old version of the phone. Doesn't work like that.

mention something about cyanogenmod from @Deepflex, could it be this ?

I was talking about this. You have to adapt it to the P8000 and have to use a 3.18 kernel (+ M blobs) though.
there isnt any 3.18 kernel that was released right ? m blobs can be extracted question is why won't your cm13.1 work on the new elephone ? memory changes ? it is still same soc right or there is something different quite confused.
Bump

In case anyone wants to develop a ROM. It is hard to believe there is no development for this phone yet.

I have the phone, but I have 0 experience to make custom kernel and recovery, but I found an interesting guide and I am working on it. Hopefully I will make the very first kernel and TWRP based on 43.0.A

This guide does not work for MediaTek devices.
The L1 uses a Mediatek SoC...so yes, I wish you luck, but it won't do you any good.

Any custom roms?
Have any custom roms been made available for this phone? I have the G3113 model. I managed to successfully unlock the bootloader and install TWRP recovery, but I'm not able to find any custom roms for this phone in particular. I know it might have something to do with the MediaTek SoC, but was hoping someone would've gotten around that at this point.
Any update on this

[Q] What's needed to build a custom rom for S9+?

Hi Im curious what's required to build a custom rom (pie or later) for the Qualcomm China varient? Are there any guides tailored or something towards these devices (basically less of generalized one)?
What I know i need:
A 64bit Linux box i have that: Debian 10 currently.
Custom rom source (I'll decide on it later probably will be Lineage)
Samsung S9 Source Code etc <== Not sure how to get it.
A way to Flash said custom rom once built (TWRP would be easiest since i have it already plus saves me trying to make a flash package for the Linux's varient of Odin)
End of what I know im sure that there's more i will need hence the reason for the thread lol.
Anyway Thanks to anyone for any help they can offer in advance.

two things. 1: an unlocked bootloader 2: asking your question in the right place just messing with you on the latter, of course.
Id poke around in the Galaxy devices built specifically for non US markets as they have unlocked bootloaders and that level of development is awash in those areas.

The OnePlus 9 pro is good for customizing!
@Evon88, the fact is, TWRP hasn't been updated to properly support Android 12, at least not on the 9 Pro, and I'm beginning to suspect that it never will be. IMHO, it looks to me like encryption and other issues introduced by Google have simply gotten the best of the TWRP team. I'll be happy to be proven wrong, and will be pleasantly surprised if TWRP is updated to work with Android 12 and above, but right now, that remains in the realm of wishful thinking.
The good news is that the recoveries included with most Android 12 ROMs (based on the AOSP recovery) are functional, and are capable of doing the minimum work of flashing new ROMs and upgrades (i.e. Magisk and Gapps) just like TWRP. They certainly don't have the wealth of features that TWRP has (such as the ability to wipe only the data partition without erasing the media partition; it's either all or nothing), but then, they weren't designed to have them. I keep hoping that someone will take the AOSP recovery and use it as a base for a recovery that includes more of TWRP's features. (I'd do it if I had the knowledge. I'm knowledgeable enough to poke at AOSP and cherry pick features to create a custom ROM, but the intimate knowledge required to work with the recovery code is something I don't have.)

You can in fact install and boot TWRP. But you can't do almost anything in it... But this isn't OP9P problem but every phone with Android 12 and encryprion enabled. But as other said, TWRP isn't needed for flashing custom ROMs.

Don't let lack of twrp hold you back. It's a fun phone. I use it for gaming (CODM) on Android 11.2.10.10 just fine. I may end up flashing an old build of crDroid for Android 11 but I'm pretty happy with how everything is set up on regular OOS now and don't want to lose L1 and start back over.

There's a user/team on the >OnePlus 6 & 6T forums<, that has had success with Android 12 and 13 decrypt, I use it on my 6T, and decrypt works flawlessly, I use it to flash Magisk when changing/updating ROMs.
It's Unofficial however, I hope it trickles to other devices.

Needed, maybe not. Desired, definitely. It can do a lot of things that the stock and AOSP recoveries simply can't (to name just one: it can wipe data without wiping storage, as I mentioned above; stock/AOSP recoveries' "factory reset" wipe destroys everything).
