===Can't update any OTA after having HTC One M8 rooted=== - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Please help me deal with my current issue that I can't install or update any Stock | OTA after I had rooted my phone.
The information dump from my phone as following

version-bootloader: 3.19.0.0000
version-baseband: 1.19.21331147A1.09G
version-cpld: None
version-microp: None
version-main: 4.19.707.2
version-misc: PVT SHIP S-ON
imei2: Not Support
meid: 00000000000000
product: m8_ul
platform: hTCBmsm8974

partition-layout: Generic
security: on
build-mode: SHIP
boot-mode: FASTBOOT
commitno-bootloader: 3aa067db
hbootpreupdate: 11
gencheckpt: 0
Version-Main has been changed by myself in order i can use the stock corresponding to it but it's in vain.
I also tried a lot of stock and all of them totally didn't match.
Please help!
Thanks,
Bobo

I wrote restore (not install) but you tried to install instead of restore. That is where you are wrong.
See this how to restore but use the file that I linked above 3.32.707.9 not those in the guide

Thank so much. It works now but there is an issue that Wi-fi keeps being off when i try to turn it on in Settings.
Any idea for this?
Thanks,

Not sure if this got to do with your version-baseband: 1.19.21331147A1.09G
If not yet updated to 4.19.707.2 ... try a version lower to restore :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55076383&postcount=1728
then do OTA to 3.32.707.9 and later OTA to 4.19.707.2
Can you post your current fastboot getvar all (minus serial no. & imei no.)
Also please edit your post #1 to remove serial no. & imei no.
Or .. if you like to use RUU to directly update your version to 4.19.707.2,
you can get RUU_M8_UL_L50_SENSE60_MR_hTC_Asia_WWE_4.19.707.2_R adio_1.25.21331147A1.06G_20.69.4196.01_F_release_4 14204_signed.exe from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56140330&postcount=1
BUT for this RUU, you need to backup all your internal storage to your PC or anywhere that you like because the RUU will wipe everything in your phone.
And to run this RUU, you need to relock bootloader.
1. relock bootloader - fastboot oem lock
2. run RUU (right click the file and select run as administrator)

Your version-baseband show that the firmware was not updated. I believe you don't do what I mentioned in the guide that linked for you.
If it is correctly updated, the version-baseband should read 1.25.21331147A1.06G
You blank version-main also show that firmware was not updated correctly and you may not use the suggested TWRP version. Don't use that outdated TWRP 2.7.0.2
You need to this all over again. Updating directly to 4.19.707.2 with TWRP backup is not correct way.
1. Install TWRP 2.8.1.0 - http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m8
command fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.8.1.0-m8.img
2. Download TWRP backup 3.32.707.9 - https://mega.co.nz/#!wZhxRBjR!kNX7nA-4aLaw-vW15pfr6uXpH2dKa6RC2ZXk3w4NSuw
3. Download stock 3.32.707.9 recovery - http://sourceforge.net/projects/htconem8/files/Recovery/3.32.707.9_recovery.img/download
4. Extract the downloaded 3.32.707.9_ckpv5.zip on PC
5. Boot to TWRP recovery and make a backup of boot only, this is to see where the backup goes on your device.
6. Reboot, connect device to PC then open Internal Storage, TWRP/BACKUPS/SerialNo./
7. Transfer the extracted 3.32.707.9 folder (not 3.32.707.9_ckpv5 folder) and its content to the backup path on your device
TWRP/BACKUPS/SerialNo./3.32.707.9
8. Reboot to TWRP, wipe your device - in TWRP go to wipe - advance - select dalvik cache, cache, data, system (only these)
9. Restore the transferred backup - make sure all boot, data & system are ticked - swipe to restore
10. In reboot menu select bootloader
11. fastboot flash stock recovery that you downloaded - command fastboot flash recovery 3.32.707.9_recovery.img
12. reboot - check for OTA, download, install
13. your device should be updated to 4.19.707.2
14. done
If you want to flash TWRP again, use the latest TWRP 2.8.5.0 after OTA 4.19.707.2

Thank for that,
but my phone keeps restarting therefore i can't access internal storage. I gotta enter bootloader mode by pushing power button and Volume down button to stop it restarting.
What can i do for now?
Thanks,

Press & hold both volume up and power button. When the screen goes off, release both buttons and quickly press & hold volume down button. This will take you to hboot. Press power once, you'll be in bootloader screen.
Fastboot flash the TWRP 2.8.1.0. Boot to recovery, select mount, enable mtp.
You should be able to transfer files to Internal Storage when in recovery.

I got a warning "Its file size is larger than the device limit" when copy the folder 3.32.707.9. It is so ridiculous because my internal storage is 6 GB free and the folder size is just 2.2 GB.
Should i try another TWRP version?
Thanks,

Nothing's wrong with that version but something is odd with your version-baseband which is more like a 3.18.0000 version
Try to restore this 2.22.707.4 version and see whether your wi-fi is working
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55076383&postcount=1728
if yes .. follow all the steps to do OTA .. you'll have 2 OTAs

Hi,
Wi-Fi works perfectly when I went back to 2.22.707.4 as well as update to 3.32.707.9. Unluckily after update to 4.19.707.2, Wi-Fi doesn't work again, can't turn it on. The dump of variables as following

I have no idea why you still have Wifi problem after successfully updated to 4.19.707.2
Everything in getvar look fine.
The only suggestion that I have is make sure you still have stock recovery image installed. Reboot to hboot and select recovery, select wipe data/factory reset .. see whether this helps.

Thank so much!!!
Wi-Fi works properly for now.
You have been very helpful. Appreciate for your helps
Thanks again

[Q] Problems reverting back to stock

Hey Guys, First off, this is the first thread I've created so sorry if this has already been posted.
So I'm having issues reverting back to stock, using a stock nandroid back up from Mr Hoffs page (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376), my CID is OPTUS001 and did the restore from the back up all goods, but then when I do OTA and after is has finished installing (I think the update is 1.54). So then when it has booted back up, My wifi is no longer working, It wont switch on.
I'm going back to stock to update my phone as far as possible, hopefully up to Lollipop.
Help me out guys, surely there is a way to revert back to complete stock without the need to S-Off the device.
If you need information about my phone, Just ask, hopefully I will be able to answer it!
Regards,
Marcus Garces

Before you ask, I have no idea why Version main is blank.
You have blank version-main because you use old outdated TWRP 2.7.x.x
Use 2.8.1.0 for your hboot version
You can't do update with that backup which is too low version for your device.
You need 2.07.980.2 backup

Once the version-main already been removed by the old TWRP version, installing the latest TWRP will not bring it back. You need to restore the firmware then flash latest TWRP will fix it.
Based on your info, you need 3.32.111.3, restore the 3.32.111.3 backup and its stock recovery. Do OTA update to the latest 4.19.111.2
Ok, so.. i found the 3.32.111.3 backup but i didn't find the 3.32.111.3 recovery.. can i put on 3.32.771.3 recovery ?

You have blank version-main because you use old outdated TWRP 2.7.x.x
Use 2.8.1.0 for your hboot version
You can't do update with that backup which is too low version for your device.
You need 2.07.980.2 backup

Flashing TWRP 2.8.1.0 alone won't fix that blank version-main
You need to restore 2.07.980.2 backup and its stock recovery then do OTA to 3.32.980.4 this will fix the missing version-main.
I have all the needed files .. I'll upload them if you still interested to fix your device.

Eventually lollipop will come to your carrier ... it just a matter of time.
With hboot 3.19 you can try lollipop custom ROM, only maybe not 100% perfect but you can try and see any big problem or not.

[Q] Hi, no OS on M8, flash rom in TWRP "some symlinks fail"

Hi,
Apologies in advance because I'm sure this is a very noob problem, but I was trying to update my M8 to lollipop and ended up messing it up somewhere. It was rooted before, S-Off, unlocked, using Android HD 4.4.4.
When I try to flash the Android HD Lollipop rom in TWRP from internal or external sdcard, or from USB OTG, the installer starts and looks successful until it gets to "Creating toolbox symlinks". After that it says "symlink: some symlinks failed"
When it finishes, it goes back into recovery and TWRP says "Successful"
When I go to reboot TWRP says it isn't rooted and asks if I'd like to root. Whether I say "yes" or "no" it reboots to a white HTC screen with a little lock at the bottom. The lock wasn't there when I started. After a few seconds the screen turns off then back on, then it goes into recovery.
If I try to install the update-supersu from internal or external card, or from USB OTG, in TWRP it says "success" and no errors, but then when I go to reboot it, it says "does not appear to be rooted" and asks if I'd like to root it. Whether I say yes or no it reboots, freezes, then boots into recovery and I start over.
In boot where it used to say "tampered" it now says "modified", and under that "unlocked", "s-off", a bunch of numbers that look important, but nothing in "OS-".
I can get into recovery and fastboot or hboot just fine. I have ADB, fastboot, and I think all the drivers I need on my laptop, and both recognize my phone when it's plugged in and I type "adb devices". I've tried like 10 different guides to push and flash and honestly too many commands to remember, but nothing that can get it to boot into a working rom.
To be honest, every single time I've tried to root something, I've broken something, but usually if I keep looking I can find the same problem and someone who's fixed it and figure it out, but I've been at it nearly 20 hours straight now and I just can't see what I'm missing (besides OS Dx)
If anyone knows what I've done and how to undo it, I'd be grateful for any advice.
Thanks,
Josh
*** I think I got the wrong firmware, but not sure how to find the right one without downloading them reandomly and checking the android-info***
Boot to bootloader/fastboot then run command fastboot getvar all
Post here the result (delete serial no. & imei no.)
Will see what we can do later
Your problem most probably is the old version of TWRP (2.7.0.2) that you use.
You should try 2.8.3.0 if you have a KitKat firmware and 2.8.5.0 if it is a Lollipop firmware.

So you have a AT&T device.
What actually you want to do because there is no lollipop update for AT&T yet.
Since your device is S-Off, you can change
CID : CWS__001 to 11111111
MID : 0P6B12000 to 0P6B10000
then flash a EU firmware.
Or you take any unsigned EU firmware.zip, open it with 7-zip and extract out the android-info.txt and edit this android-info.txt to include your CID and MID (use notepad++ for this), drag the modded android-info.txt into the unsigned firmware.zip
Flash this modded firmware, should work too.
And important thing about TWRP : 2.8.3.0 if you have a KitKat firmware and 2.8.5.0 if it is a Lollipop firmware
Then you can install any of the lollipop Sense base custom ROM.
Thanks. I'll chug some coffee and give it a try.
Ok, I changed my CID and MID without too much trouble, but about "TWRP : 2.8.3.0 if you have a KitKat firmware and 2.8.5.0 if it is a Lollipop firmware", how can I tell which I have?
Oh, I used the ADB method if that matters.
After change of CID/MID, you need to flash firmware.zip in RUU mode not ADB.
Your current firmware is KitKat .. if you stick to it, you need 2.8.3.0
After you flash a 4.xx.xxx.x firmware - you need 2.8.5.0
Check this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/vomerguides-m8-bootldr-unlock-s-off-t2800727
Thanks for putting up with all the questions.
I just want to make sure I'm doing this correctly. I need to update the firmware to a 4x one, then twrp 2.8.5.0, then root and rom? I'm reading the guide you linked, but I'm not sure which firmware to use, for example it lists 5xxBase, then underneath it lists firmwares starting with 4xx.
Or does it not matter?
1. Update firmware, flash the widely use - 4.16.401.10
2. Flash TWRP 2.8.5.0
3. Install ROM
No need manual root because custom ROM is prerooted.
I got to go now .. be back in next 4 hrs

TYSM!! That's what I was looking for
Ok, I updated the firmware and TWRP (I think), but when I try to do anything like flash a rom all the partitions come up as unmountable before the installer starts. I know I read something similar before so I'll try to find that.

You don't seems be using the updated TWRP 2.8.5.0
Your fastboot shows that you may use the old 2.7.0.2
Download and install TWRP 2.8.5.0 - http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m8
command fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.8.5.0-m8.img
Then boot to recovery - select wipe - advance - format data - yes
Go to reboot menu - select recovery (to reboot back to recovery
Select "Mount" menu - enable MTP
Transfer the ROM zip to either Internal Storage or MicroSD (if you have one)
Then try to install the ROM.zip
that's so weird...from within twrp the little info bar thing at the top says v2.8.5.0
Ill install again
Yeah .. unless you remove the (bootloader) version-main: info, TWRP 2.8.5.0 should not remove that after you flash the firmware.
Anyway ... try the other steps that I mentioned.
You did it man, you fixed the phone I thought I would have to throw away.

HELP! Bricked HTC One M8 (UK, Unbranded)

Help! I've bricked my HTC One M8!
I had TWRP and root and wanted to install the latest OTA update. I downloaded what I thought was the stock recovery and flashed through Fastboot.
Everything was fine, rebooted and the OTA updated downloaded and installed successfully. However, on re-starting, the phone is stuck on the HTC One logo screen. The power button is un-responsive.
I can power down with "power and up" and get to fastboot with "power and down". If I select "Recovery" I go to the stock recovery screen.
It's an unbranded UK model and I did a get var all before flashing:

Thanks for the prompt response! I haven't taken a backup and I'm a bit out of my depth here!
I've downloaded the 4.16.401.10 firmware from XDA. Would that work? How do I flash it?
No.. that won't work.
As I said.. reflash SuperSu zip since now you have TWRP installed.
If still stuck, restore the partition part from 4.16.401.13 backup
I know you don't make the backup.. how can you make backup when you can't boot your device after OTA, right ?
I have that backup and it's in my thread linked in my signature

Read post #1, all the 14 steps.
Stock recovery alone won't work, you need to restore 4.19.707.4 backup then after stock recovery.

i can't do that without s-off, right?
sorry for this basic question
There is no mention about S-off or S-On on that 14 steps.
Means it doesn't matter whether S-On or S-Off.
Don't make thing complicated, just follow the guide.
Basic :
Install TWRP 2.8.70
Restore 4.19.707.4 backup
Install 4.19.707.4 stock recovery
Reboot (don't root), run setup, check OTA and install
Done

Cant go back to Sense (from gpe)

Hello
Since i flashed the gpe ruu, i cant get back to sense.
I tried almost everything. I tried 3 different ruu.exe's, 2 different ruu.zip's and dozens of firmwares. (old and new ones, international and devEd's)
My Bootloader is unlocked, i have s-off and supercid.
(I tried everything with a relocked bootloader, too!)
I followed this guide right here. (And a good hand full of other guides, here on xda)
Currently i have cm13 installed (without gapps!! -.- because /system is too small), but i really want sense back tho
I downloaded 3 different sense based custom roms and tried them all. But twrp is unable to flash them, due to the changed /system partition size. (i tried twrp 2.8.7.0 AND 3.0.0-1)
For those of you who are able to speak or read german, I have a different thread in a german forum.
I appreciate any help!
Thanks

There is your problem .. you need to change it to 0P6B10000 then flash the firmware.zip then install RUU.
See this on how to change it : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708581

Known TWRP bug, usually happens due to an older version TWRP being used at some point in the past.
Once you flash a firmware successfully, that firmware's version number will be properly shown as main version again.
Hm.
i still cant flash the ruu.
ruu.exe is still giving me errors and the .zip in hboot still says, that the /system partition is too small.
(i also tried the original mid [t-mobile])
solution:
ruu.exe & ruu zip wont work for me.
i tried flashing the firmware & latest twrp and then restoring 6.12.401.4-twrp backup.
and..
it actually worked.
(sorry for double post. i didnt mean to :s)

As I said earlier.. flash firmware.zip first to change partition size then only you can install RUU.
Restoring a backup after firmware.zip is as same as install RUU after firmware.zip is flashed.
And to install RUU zip, you need to use htc_fastboot.exe
