Did HTC do away with the grid style multitasking with Lollipop? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is this the case? I don't have an HTC phone right now, but planned on getting the m9. One of my favorite things about it was it's recent apps style. I saw a picture awhile back that looked like the default recents apps menu, which would be really disappointing.

You can choose between the two

ADW.Launcher
So, after trying out a few Home Launchers, I have settled upon ADW.Launcher. I must admit, I didn't think anything would be able to replace Helix Launcher, but ADW has all of the speed, eye candy, tweaks, and features that I am loving right now! I also love the feature of Tag Home, which has labels for your different apps when you open the drawer, so I do wish it had that. But aside from that one feature, everything else on ADW OWNS!!!
- It can have up to 7 screens (9 would be great though).
- You can hit nexus style buttons on the bottom to flip to the next screen, instead of sliding with your thumb across the screens (which sometimes hits icons and launches them instead of sliding, I guess because our screens aren't the most sensitive anymore - always happened to me, so I appreciated this navigation option. Does anyone else have this problem? Or needing to swipe a few times to get it to go to the next screen?).
- Since we don't have multitouch, we can't pinch-to-zoom out on our home screen to preview all of our screens. ADW overcomes this via TWO Preview methods:
Method 1: When you hit the home button from any of the screens, or...
Method 2: You can preview JUST the screens to the left or right of whichever screen you are on at the moment, by holding down on the nexus style buttons on the bottom-left or bottom-right, flanking the dock
- The animation of the screens sliding left and right looks awesome.
- You can choose either Galaxy Spica S style navigation of your apps, or the 3-D Fly-In (which I prefer), when you open the drawer. Unfortunately, no option for just sliding the drawer up I don't think.
- You can choose which of your 7 screens (or 5 or 3, whatever) you want to be your "Home" screen (very cool!).
- Customizability:
-you can adjust the speed that you change screens
-you can adjust the "overshoot"
-you can adjust the speed of the Fly-In when opening drawer
-you can adjust the tint of the docked icons
-you can adjust the size of the docked icons
-you can hide the app titles
-you can show or hide the background screens when apps or the app drawer is open, and also adjust the shading of them
-You can customize almost everything!!!
- There are still more features that I haven't discovered yet
I found the creator's thread here, he's an xda member of course

And a Youtube video here of many of the customizable features:

I just installed ADW.Launcher from the Marketplace.
Please feel free to leave your Home Launcher reviews in this thread if you like! Tell us why you have chosen what you have, and which features are particularly important to you and why. Hopefully this will help people or newbies to be able to weed out the less useful or non-working launchers. Maybe I'll start a poll too
Reserved. Just because I've always wanted to be in a position where I can "reserve" posts like devs lol.
Thanks for the post. Id like to see some reviews of the other launchers in this thread.

How about a review?
Just tried it out for myself. Great launcher. The only thing I miss from Helix is the double tap to preview. The button isnt super hard though. ill have to make my way to the dev to suggest

Which launcher are you talking about? If it's Launcher Pro, then yeah, I agree with you, that's why I went back to Helix, and since then have stuck with ADW. I love the preview!!
helix had preview with double tap on background. preview does rock

Sense 4.0 what do you think?

Ok Sense 4.0 looks great, BUT what happened to the wonderful rotating carousel? Now from the home screen you can move to the right by three screens, then you have to come all the way back and then move to the left. Crazy it would have been so much quicker to allow Sense to rotate and plus it looked good.
Completely true, I so miss that feature.
I hope by some hack I can regain that feature on my One X with sense 4.0.
I don't miss the carousel, I think it looked really good, don't get me wrong, but the number of times that just because I have moved a bit to fast from one screen to the next did pee me off when it wold shoot past the screen I wanted and go into the carousel. I do miss the continuous home screen scrolling mind.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
First I missed the carrousel also (since one day I own a HOX!) , but the fastest way I select a screen is minimizing the screen till you see the 5 screens and selecting the one I want by tipping on it. Just as fast as it is
You can still use a third party launcher for that feature whilst keeping the rest of Sense.
Tiersten, what third party app will do the carousel with Sense 4?

ADW Launcher EX can do it but the 3 dot menu bar appears which isn't good. Investigating other launchers now...
Apex launcher is my launcher of choice
Free, fast, and really customisable allowing you to have a continuos scroll etc and 'tab overview' and you don't have a three dot menu. plus it can use ADW themes
would post a link but i'm too new apparently...
I think its miles better than stock androideek: blasphemy I know), it would be perfect if it didn't require so many resources.

[Q] Apps Tray as List

Actually, I'm not sure if "Tray" is the right term.
I'm running stock T-Mobile G3.
When you tap that icon with a six dots surrounded by a white circle, it shows you all your installed apps. My only choices are small icons or large icons.
Is there any way (setting, app, or mod) that would allow me to display (and launch) all my apps as a list? Ideally, with alpha jump links down the side (so, I could jump to the apps that start with "T", for example).
At this point, I'm hoping to avoid a custom ROM because I want to really get to know the phone's native features, first.

Nova Launcher is great. Just what I needed. Thanks so much!

KitKat seems better for tablets?

I upgraded to 5.0.2 and noticed the new recents screen is really bad. I can't instantly alt+tab anymore and it looks like I can't replace it anymore either. Is there something I am doing wrong? Lollipop doesn't seem to add anything new, just hassles. Like the notifications changed and I am forced to keep them persistent in order to prevent it from automatically closing?
The main thing LP brought was Art.
I hate the recents too.
At least on my m8 htc had the sense (see what I did there) to include the old style too.
I absolutely despise the damn notification cards on my m8 as they constantly cause my phone to unlock in my pocket.
One of the things I'd wish Samsung had kept the same as KitKat on their tablets. It's ridiculous taking the full screen on a tablet for a less efficient way of switch between apps than before. To me it's obvious Google doesn't give a damn about tablets anymore.

A Better Recents Menu?

The G3 4.x recents menu was perfect. The Google style recents is basically pointless. It's so cluttered, hard to find, and takes longer than just going into the app drawer. Is there any way to change it? I know it was possible to switch to Android Lolipop recents on other versions of Android.
Recently perhaps? But it requires root and you can't disable logd!
Thanks. I have no clue what logd is, but recently doesn't seem to be working. It sounds like a classic style recents, which is an improvement. However, LG had it perfect with the ability to zoom in like a more classic style, or zoom out to have 12 apps fully displayed. I believe HTC had a similar recents, or at least it was baked into a rom on a friends phone.
