Audio Balance way louder on right side - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've noticed this for a while and it's driving me nuts. For whatever reason the audio comes out about 80/20 with 80% of the sound on the right side. I've tested with multiple headphones and LG Tone+ Bluetooth headphones. I've also used multiple audio apps including a youtube video that's made to test sound from right/left speakers. Any ideas? I'm running Viper as my daily driver but also have installed Fluent's Lollipop rom via MultiROM and it's the exact same. If it was just headphones I'd think it was something with the connection but it's also an issue with bluetooth. I thought maybe I could just find an app to adjust the balance but I can't find any app that adjusts left/right balance either.
Thanks for any input!

Than why post ? Really.....Post the link or don't post at all !
What kind of attitude is that, like all other posts where you seem to offer help but actually post nothing but random text. Making up things that the OP "might" want to do to his phone.
It comes to my conclusion that you have a very strange way of thinking/posting.
I hope you will at least consider to offer true help and post what you actually know.
Have a nice day.

Agreed!
I updated my kernel to one that works with fauxsound and was able to bump up the left side when using headphones so it sounds better via headphones but no change via bluetooth. Can't seem to find an app that edits bluetooth left/right gain... Still doesn't make sense to me why my phone would have this issue with both bluetooth and regular headphones. Very odd!

And no some devices do not have it. It's either a software or a hardware problem of any kind and should not be there. When it can be changed via audio enhancing software it's fine if the user likes that solution too.
A device that comes with this price "should" be flawless.

Thanks for the responses. I'm not sure when this issue started but it hasn't always been that way. Viper4Android seems to be the best solution I can find currently as you can change the left/right values via Channel Panning for bluetooth and headphones (0.9:0.1 seems best).
I doubt it's software since I've tried multiple kernels/roms and even reflashed firmware this morning. If it really is hardware though I'm not familiar with the process to get a replacement under warranty. Might need to look into that I guess.
I think maybe when Sprint releases lollipop I'll look into running a RUU and see if that fixes the issue. I'm s-off so shouldn't be a problem doing a RUU I don't think.

Agree, since your version has an RUU, run it. If that doesn't fix it, might be a hardware issue.

Distorted sound when talking on the phone

I've found this issue with several roms. Recently I had PDACornerPro V22 on my TyTN and the sound was much smoother and clearer when talking on the phone. Now I've got V23, and it's like it's distorted by loudness, as if you where playing music on a stereo way too loud for what the speakers can handle.
It's not that it is much louder, just distorted as if it were. Had the same issue with PDAViet's ROMS in the past... Lowering sound volume to the lowest setting while on the phone does not help, it gets lower but still sounds terrible. Anyone got any ideas?

I don't understand. What kind of value types is it? Strings? Binaries?
Ok I got it, but it doesn't make a difference. Still screaming loud. Even after soft-reset. This is so annoying. I know it's rom related since PDACornerPro v22 had great smooth sound. And on another fact, my mother has the exact same phone as I but running official ROM, and her phone sounds great too.
Got any more ideas?

[DEV] 2-way call recording

The original thread was http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1422779&page=11 but they said you better go in dev section.
What's on the subject, yes, I fixed that for Nexus. The kernel (omap4) itself needn't be patched, that's great. The TI guys have done a _cool_ work ever, we should be grateful, indeed.
So all you have to do is to change the setup before the call. A sample is in http://avs234.net/temp/rvoix_lib/jni (live.cfg), _full_ sources included.
Please do mail me if you find a bug or anything!
Sincerely

Yes, experimental version works excellent for me. For some reason it didn't work with GLaDOS kernel, and with LeanKernel I was getting bad, low, strange(as if both laudspeaker and phone speaker were active during conv.) sound. Both kernels use Sound Control I thin, maybe that has something to do with it?
Faux's Hybrid 015 ultimate works like a charm. Since I am satisfied with it in genera,l I'll stick with it, for a while at least

What's this, Sound Control? If it does really as it's named, expecting some trouble yes as it may disable the proper settings.
Is there a tute for this?
it may be wise to add the resources from the other thread, if there really have to be two co-existent threads.
otherwise the influx of confused people, that somehow are not able to read the other thread will skyrocket.
thanks for the research on how to get the 2-way recording to the maguro.
The incompatibility on GLaDOS and other kernels could be due to the fact that most of the kernel devs remove unnecessary lines of code from stock kernel while developing ( in order to make them leaner and more efficient).
Although it might be supported by stock kernel, they could have accidentally removed the supporting lines of codes considering them a waste of space.

Yes, that's the point we need to clarify. On GLaDOS, they must be using some non-canonical (i.e. non-TI) version omap4 stuff.
I just dunno figure out why. Does someone have a link, or maybe I'd contact them, it's _interesting_ yes.

Might be good to get Franco on this as well, seeing as he has the most popular kernel (according to thread replies/page views).

Have you tried changing 'Record a call from' in Call Recorder preferences? You could also try playing with the live.cfg file avs333 mentioned a couple of times.

You will also have to buy the app, since it is not free. That is only the testing version which will work up to the first of May.
Thanks! I tried all the sources. The kernel patch source and alsa source both have echo on bluetooth (means I can hear my voice in my ear) and distortion reported by the other party (sounds like I'm in a tin can). I looked at the config and frankly it's greek to me.
I can assist with testing/debug but unfortunately that's about all I can do right now.
Curious... I just noticed that this beta callrecorder with alsa, when recording calls, activates the phones internal earpiece and mic, in addition to bluetooth, when bluetooth is active. So while I was making a test call, I could hear audio in my bluetooth, but when I leaned down near the phone I could hear audio coming from the phone's ear speaker as well. This might explain the echo in my ear along with distortion of my voice heard by the called party. I also covered up the bluetooth mic and leaned down to the phone and I could speak into the phone and hear the audio crystal clear in the bluetooth earpiece.
When I tell callrecorder not to record calls, the problem goes away.

Are there any known ways to tweak this behaviour or work around it? I'm finding it very annoying, as I'm using something like PVStar+ to play YouTube in the background (for audio), and suddenly it stops working because the One X has decided to kill it mid song or whatever.
When it starts killing active audio stream, I begin to have problems :-(

The only negatives was smaller benchmark scores, nothing else seemed slow with the multitasking enhacements.
HTC really know how to limit us, s-on crap, this multitasking lack and camera locked to 2MB pics. Fixed 2/3, multitasking and photos just under 8MB for colourful , detailed scenes. And we can install custom roms with a little inconvienence. Almlst 3/3 HTC your practices suck.

[Q] HOX - International - 4.2.2 - Voice Record

Hi there people!
I know about the root + txt file method with 4.1.x, but I've been wondering if the 4.2.2 update changed anything.
Anything as in some option that allows a voice recorder to work.
Even client side record would be great (two-way would be heaven).
Anyone been experimenting with this?
If it's absolutely non-doable... could you link me a ROM that is 100000000000000% stable/works and got voice recording?
I'm willing to root the phone as the warranty is over anyway. But the user is my father, and he is an 'old guy'. The rom should be 100% working/stable/etc, if I don't want him to have a heart attack because some 1337 h4xx0r thought messing up core apps is a good idea.
(^ The above is just an example, I respect the work of the fellow XDA hackers.)

Most of roms with good support will works just fine without any restart for weeks, but after some time (or after instaling some apps) something can go wrong.
I've got ProBAM v4.4.1 and call recording is working but it's not a good choice for "old guy"
Try sense 4+ roms like Viper or ARHD - they were good looking, easy to use, rock stable and call recording (2way but without bt) was working fine.

Yep, all hardware works but to make 2way sound recording you have to unlock, root your phone and apply "Sound_Phone_Original_REC.txt" patch.

Could you enlighten me about this bug ? (thank you very much for your replies, they help, a lot.)
I mean, how are the sounds different? How do you notice?
The backup: The problem was due to the app my father uses and the different way to store contacts.
Basically, he thought a smart phone, is a smart phone.
He had a Nokia before, and used it to contain every detail about people. Like 3-5 numbers.
When he got the HTC, he started to input contacts by using the online interface.
It sucked. It messed up everything. Like the numbers got mixed up and such.
Finally, MyPhoneExplorer let him to create his contacts.
But then... he needed a Contacts app too. (The default sucks.)
So I went on the market, and GOD BLESS the creators of Contacts+. It IS what the default should look like.
The rooting: It's a business phone so to say, he works on it/with it all day. Well, he relies on it as he relied on the Nokia.
You know, like you would rely on your dog, the best buddy. And that's why I didn't want to risk it.
Warranty is the other problem. The phone already had a yellow tint, and a few weeks ago he dropped the phone and the corner of the protective glass got cracked. It's nothing, but it voids the warranty. (There is insurance on the phone, so I'll just return it when the company goes out of stock from the One X and ask for a One. Seriously, they ask for a high insurance price monthly, and they would give you an "obsolete" phone.)
SO YOU WERE SAYING... (the post got tl;dr, sorry)
Which rom you say I should install?
I rooted phones and such, but f... I almost bricked a friend's Milestone. (Lucky it had two recovery ways to fix things.)
So... yeah. Any "non-ricer", standard, rock-solid rom.
Thank you!
I already owe you a beer.

When playing recorded call on phone it plays 2 or 3 times faster, so you cannot understand a world.
The same thing is with ringtones (played much faster than it should be).
Files are working fine(normal speed) when played on other devices.

About rely on Android phone:
For more than a year I use HOX like a normal phone (calling, sms) about less than a week, and as a normal phone it's OK - battery lasts for 4-5 days (not close to Nokia: week or two
Almost everyday I'm using mp3, gps, mail, camera and it has drastically impact for battery life.
Phone lasts for max 2 days with 2-4h onscreen time.
So, except battery life you can relay on it

Or wait a month and see what people will tell about sense5 roms.

Which root method should I follow? The one in the recording thread post (you linked)?

It depends.
After beer or two or after a joint you don't care a lot;P
Seriously: just check by yourself.
Take any ringtone and play it with fast forward mode (most of media players has that feature) and imagine that you hear this when someone is calling.
I had this issue only once, just after applying patch. After complete shutdown and powering up it was fixed for me - phone worked about 2-3 weeks without restart or any kind of problems.

I will apply the fix on this weekend.
But damn, it already creeps the hell out of me.
- I will lose every data again. I don't even know how to backup anymore. I used apps, desktop apps, HTC"s tool, everything. Then I still lost some really important data.
- I have to provide the unique ID of the device. I fear. If I ever break it (got insurance on it), will they claim it as a jailbreak problem?... I mean, of course software and hardware got nothing to do with each other if the glass breaks on the display for example, but we are talking about big evil companies.
How comes Samsung phones works perfectly (like they can record OOTB), but HTC sucks this much?
And HTC can design a proper phone (One), while Samsung uses a plastic crap body (S4/Notes).
Life isn't fair I guess. (But functionality > design, so this was our last HTC. Ever.)

Any good developer please help me out, if you can find that for it would be a great help

Yes, this was a great help, but I am not able to understand what I have to increase in that file
To be specific I want my Earpiece (in call), headphones, and Speaker (both in call and music one) boosted
Can you help me with that?

You could install my ROM and use the DSP manager, it also uses mixerpaths though a more serious answer is look at the comments it should point u in the right direction.

you can edit default_gain in system/etc
I thought xml edit only applied to CM/AOSP/GPe roms.
OP, did this end up working out for you?

I've attached some screen shots to what you need to modify to increase your external speakers along with headphones.
You'll need Root Explorer or equivalent.
Let me know if it helped.
It's best to raise the digital volume it sounds less distorted ...my setting are +12 to all digital volumes and sounds great
Just to to clarify, you only need to raise the digital volume? I'm going to give it a shot.

I have tried that and multiple others. Some work well, some dont.
None have given me what I am looking for which it the ability to boost things like system volume, notification volume, etc. Still looking for a way to do that.
The best that I can accomplish is boosting media volume via a music or video player. If that is all you are looking for then the equalizer and bass booster will work fine.
