Installing Google PrimeTime TV + IR Blaster + AFTV - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to replace my Google Tv 3.2 box with the AFTV. I tried sideloading GooglePrimetime TV but its asking for a Google account.
1. How can I add a google account to the FireTV. I have the settings app sideloaded but when I open the Accoutns and Sync the app closes so it wont let me add a Google Account?
2. I also want to use an IR Blaster so that I can change the channels via the AFTV, this is how the Google TV box I have with OS 3.2 works, it has a pretty cool guide when you select a show it changes the channel via the IR blaster?
Thank you.

I've been reading these forums awhile and haven't read anything like your describing. However I have Sony Google TV in the basement collecting dust and it'd be cool to repurposed the ir blaster. Cooler if you could use the Google TV remote but I don't think its possible.
Only thing I can tell you is if you're rooted go to aftvnews and install Google play store. You'll need Google play services. Its all in the guide. Hope you discover something cool!

Get enough of Google play services installed that you can run a gapps Youtube. Sign into youtube with your google account and that will give the device your google credentials to work from.
IIRC, it helps to add maps for some things, even if you will never use it for mapping - tasker expects one of the Google Maps libraries to be available.

[Q] BT Sports App APK for Fire TV

Hi, newbie here,
Does anyone know if there is a BT Sports app APK that could be side loaded onto Fire TV?
I have xbmc and have access to BT Sports but I've got access to an BT Sports account login and I'd like to run it separately from Xbmc.
My Fire TV isn't rooted. I've seen what looks like an APK on a dodgy Zip file site that asks for bank details to open it but I'd rather see if there was a free version about.
I'd be interested to here if anyone has managed to configure this set up on their FIre Tv.

Sideloading allows you to install apps to your Fire TV that are not available in the Amazon Appstore. There are numerous apps in the Google Play store that may work on the Fire TV that have not been officially ported over. You can download these apps using online APK downloaders. There are also apps like XBMC, which we will be using in this guide, which are not available on any appstore and can only be installed by sideloading.

BT Sport App for Kindle Fire Stick
Hi, Could someone post the current version of the BT Sport Apk (2.11.0) so I can sideload to a Kindle Stick?
I have sideloaded an older version (link on this site) but this no longer works as the App requires an update. BT Sport App forces you to do an upgrade and stops any previous versions working. I assume there is no way to upgrade the app directly from the Fire Stick?
My google play account wont let me download the current BT Sport App version as says I have no devices connected (I have no access to Andriod phone or tablet). I've used APK Pure and APK-dl to download the current BT Sport App from Google play but abdfire fails to sideload (I get an "install failed" error msg). If I try to reload the old version of BT sport this sideloads fine so I know abdfire is working.
I have a Windows 7 PC.
Any help would be appreciated to either get the downloaded file sideloaded or a new link to the file (outside of Google Play) which I can download and try to sideload.
Thanks

Same here, can't get anywhere so removed it, will be back to casting from tablet now.
It can be made to work again. Follow the steps here:
http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-inst...amazon-fire-tv-or-fire-tv-stick-without-root/
(You dont need to do the last step for Google Music, unless you really want it).
BT Sport app will then moan about the version of play services being too old, so download and sideload the latest compatible version of play services (For Android 5, arm64, nodpi). As of writing, it would be this:
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...s-10-2-98-240-146496160-android-apk-download/
(I actualy think I installed 10.2.91 and not 10.2.98 above but I dont think it will matter)
After installing that, and rebooting box, BT sport would no longer complain but just go to a black screen. Gave up and assumed it wouldnt be made to work... but hey presto worked a treat a few days later when I checked again. Happily watched a game over the weekend.
hello someone can help me with the app Btsport, because I doe everything about to install the services of google play and always show me a error, pleases some help.

Anyone know what the current combination of the 5 files is, I've had no luck getting any version of BT sport to work.
Im using a Kindle Fire Stick 2nd Gen on Fire OS 5.2.4.2
Google Account Manager 511
Google Services Framework 511
Google Play Store TV 8028
Ive tried various versions of both of these but neither work, I receive the update google play services error.
Google Play Services
Google Services Framework
Any help would be appreciated.
The following combination of files will enable the BT Sport app.
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...unt-manager-5-1-1743759-android-apk-download/
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...s-framework-5-1-1743759-android-apk-download/
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl.../google-play-store-android-tv-8-0-28-release/
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...s-11-9-51-230-177350961-android-apk-download/
https://apkpure.com/bt-sport/com.bt.btsport
For the above files, version 4.12.1 of bt sport will work. This may help with other google service dependant apps. Install cetusplay on your phone and set it to mouse mode for controls within the app.
It all installed correctly, however, as my BT Sport service is provided free from EE, it won’t work unless the device has an EE SIM card installed.
Presumably that’s that then? Unless anyone knows any way around this?
Looks like the latest by sport won't install on the firestick, anyone have it going or have found a workaround o)

[HOW TO] Install GAPPS without root

I posted how to get GAPPS working in the Fire HD 6,7, and HDX threads a few weeks ago and was informed it works on the Fire TV as well. This video will show you how you can install GAPPS on the Fire HD6, HD7, TV or HDX without root. All Google Apps should work excluding Google Search (Google search now works), Google Play Store, and Hangouts.

I stated in the video and thread that the Play store will not work. That would require root. The play store just needs to be installed because various google apps need the app to exist to work.

Thanks this solution does in fact work for Amazon Fire TV, including Google Music and Movies.
For Future reader, a reminder:
It is EXPECTED that the Google Play Store does not have a connection and you will not be able to browse app in the Google Play Store, though you will be able to use app such as Google Drive.
Fire TV Stick UK
Google play music works great.
Google play movies force closed on first attempt at playing a movie (i'll give it another go in a bit)
Edit: Gave Google play movies another go.
If you've recently watched a movie on another device - that movie will appear in the initial screen "Watch Now"
If you press that movie - you can view it no problem.
If you go into your library and choose a movie - the app closes.
Solution: If you want to watch a movie from google play on you Fire TV then watch it on another device (only a few seconds needed) first
I was hoping to get Sky Movies on my fireTV stick, but no dice. It wants com.google.android.maps. Any idea if I can install that without rooting?

HI dudes,
the lnk to the file does not work anymore ...
I followed the tutorial but I am not entirely sure whether the part with ADB has worked (I connected to ADB over WiFi, Amazon Fire TV Stick, 54.1.1.0_user_110031420) or not. Google Play Games and Chrome are working, but Gmail and Drive are not.
Gmail starts, but there appears a message that there is an unknown problem with Google Play Services - but if I quickly go to settings, the app does not crash until I return to the start screen/synchronise.
Google Drive crashes immediately.
Play Music works with local music (haven't tested streaming).

Request: Google Play & Vudu app

Im very green to this amazon fire tv.
I sent a few apps to AFTV with adbFire on the pc fairly easy but neither the google apps or the vudu apps i tried worked.
The google ones just went blank and back to FTV and the vudu one only lets me get into the search function (with the ftv remote)
Not sure if I missed a step. Main goal is to get vudu working.
-sorry if this is in the wrong area :/
We need more info to be able to help you. Is your device rooted? If its not rooted then the Play Store will not work. The Play Store can be installed it just won't work unless yoour Fire TV is rooted. What is the prolem with VUDU? Is it that you cannot move around inside the app with the remote? If so its because you need either a USB or Bluetooth mouse or an app on your phone/tabet that acts as a mouse. I recommend that you install Wukong Remote on your phone/tablet if you do not have a USB or Bluetooth mouse. Wukong remote is an app you can get from the play store that you install on your phone/table and the Fire TV, and it can act as a Fire TV Remote or a mouse.
Also, the play store does not work on nonrooted devces, but you can install third party app stores. I recommend "1Mobile Market" "Blackmart" and "Aptoide". I use these three app stores to keep all my apps updated and to download any apps I need or want. You can find 1Mobile Market, Blackmart and Aptoide by doing a Google search. One thing to know about third party app stores is to never auto update apps or update all apps. Update apps one at a time and make sure that the version numbers are actually an upgrade and not a downgrade or the same exact version. Third party app store apps have different signatures so sometimes they assume a downgrade is actually an upgrade, but if you pay attention to version numbers and update apps one at a time you should be fine.
To get Google apps working on nonrooted devices look for my thread on here titled "A few good apps", it will have a link to download the four apps needed to make most Google apps work. The thread should be on page two of the themes and apps section here in the Fire TV forums. When you install the four apps do not update Google Play Services past Version 7.0.99, cause its the latest version that works on the Fire TV.

The problem is with Google Play Services. If you are rooted:
Install the Xposed Framework if you don't already have it installed.
Remove Google Play Services.
Download, install, and enable the Xposed Framework module called "This App Will Run Without Google Play Services" here: http://repo.xposed.info/module/xeed.xposed.dngmod
Thanks, I'll try and report here. I have AFT rooted + Xposed installed
Well, in http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-app-run-google-play-services-1-0-t3054115 report that Youtube don't work without Play Services.
I will have to try another solution
Turn of auto updating in the Amazon store and it will fix your problem. Turn off auto updates and reboot. To do it just choose an app to install from the Fire TV launcher and you can access the setting to turn off auto updates from there.

This doesn't work for preventing Google Play Services from auto-updating.
You can turn off auto-update inside Google Play Store and also within Amazon's settings, but Google Play Services will still auto-update.

Then something is very wrong with your Fire TV that has nothing to do with the google play store.
I can confirm that the play store for me automatically updates after my first close of the store. I have to keep on reinstalling the older play store version, since the newer one always displays a white screen. I am using one of the xposed modules to change my device disguise to a nexus tablet. It just seems to break every single time it autoupdates.
I can open the sidebar, but the screen is just white and I cannot search.

Do we have a consensus on if this fix is working for most people? Btw--i don't know why but when I first got the white screen in play store (maybe 5 weeks ago) all I did was remove play services and and its continued to work ever since. I'm just curious about the above mod and being proactive in case it stops working.

It's a Xposed module, check http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/xprivacy-ultimate-android-privacy-app-t2320783
I managed to "freeze" my store and play services using the immutable flag route (chattr command). Created 2 files "com.android.vending-2.apk" and "com.google.android.gms-2.apk" in /data/app/ folder for store and play services respectively (I "froze" the play store as well as version 5.3.6 works fine for me).
I wrote a little script (remove the ".txt" at the end from the file name) to turn on and off the immutable property of these files. It is a pretty through complete overkill (LOL) as you can just do that with 2 lines of code, but I wanted to learn a bit about scripting, so went the whole hog with functions, arrays, making sure the dummy files are zero bytes, checking existing flag, how to return values from functions, error handling, verbose debug statements. I am attaching it if anyone wants to take a peek or wants some base scripting code to do other stuff on top of it. Its documented reasonably. You can run it by default. If you want to turn OFF the flag (for taking updates), you pass "ULOCK" as a command line parameter for the script. Its documented in the script... Please don't run it without understanding it first, though it does not do anything destructive except change flags. You will need to create the 2 files (or 1 file or 4 files if you want to lock all Google apks) manually in the /data/app/ folder.
One artifact of using this method that I have noticed. The FTV will periodically throw up an error message:
"Not Enough Space
Additional space is required to install this app. You can free up space by removing installed apps or connecting a USB drive. Recommended drives can be found at www.amazon.com/firetvstorage."
You will get 2 options to choose from: Install Later and Manage Installed Apps. You need to click on "Install Later". Its a wrong error message about space, but it has to do with the inability of Google (and FTV) to replace those dummy apks as they are locked.
Google will download newer version to /data/data/com.android.providers.downloads/cache/ folder, but it will sit there as it cannot overwrite the dummy apks.

Logging Into YouTube App on 2nd Generation FireTV

I was able to sideload the Aptoid store and install the "official" Youtube app, not the wrapper app that's currently available. I am not able to login and see my subscriptions. The app works fine but when I try and login nothing happens. Do I need to uninstall the wrapper version of Youtube that's currently installed? Is there a way to get the darn PlayStore installed?
Thanks

You need google services installed. There are a few threads on how to install it, but finding the compatible versions also seems to be the issue. If you are looking for a version that will be available after the new year (if truly google blocks amazon) side-load and install this one.

It works like the current amazon youtube app, but registers as a TV.
Nevermind

I was reading further down and apparently you can view videos but not actually login to the account which is stupid but at least it's installed.

Do you know of a way to get YouTube TV to work as well? I am a subscriber and can't seem to cast it from my iphone to my TV.
Thanks

You might be able to get into the youtube tv through silk or firefox. Both seem to work ok with regular youtube and logging in.

Install the following for signing in. Youtube and services are working with these....
Google Account Manager v4.4.4-1227136
Google Services Framework v4.4.4-1227136
Google Play Services (AndroidTV) v11.9.51 (836-177350961)
Google Play Store (AndroidTV) v4.6.17
For youtube
YouTube for Android TV (Android TV) 2.02.08
I can upload a zip file for these. This should get you into running the YouTube TV app. If there is one, try the YouTube for Android TV (64bit if available)
