I got the Nexus from Bell Canada and I noticed that I have something called SIM toolkit in the app drawer. I clicked on it and it loaded but it didn't do anything. What is it and what does it do? Is it a bloatware?
In Europe is STK often used as an authentication channel for internet banking
or if your provider sim has built-in functionnality ,like shortcuts ...or services
So no way to get rid of it?

Or freeze it in Titanium Backup or uninstall it.
Ya, I was just wondering if it's some bloatware that was installed by my carrier.

No, it's the equivalent of the SIM menu that exists on just about any GSM standards-compliant phone if the carrier chooses to present a SIM menu. Remember that the SIM is actually a small computer chip that runs authentication algorithms and other simple programs. STK just queries the SIM to ask if it has a SIM menu, and if so it presents it to you. On Bell it doesn't do much - just lets you visit the account self-serve web portal and dial common customer service numbers. On WIND you can use it to request an SMS with your account balance and usage details, and also under certain circumstances to force it to look for roaming networks.
I think it's also responsible for pop-up messages that come from the SIM - for example on AT&T GoPhone, you get a pop-up every time you do something that decrements your balance, so that you know how much it cost you.
Short version - it doesn't do much, and it does absolutely nothing when you aren't running it. Leave it on, because every once in a while it's useful.
For me stk menu is important , i use an dual simcard adapter in my nexus
But in most custom rom it didn't appear ...
I've deleted it in every ROM for the last couple of years with no side-effects. (T-Mobile UK).

There is truly no advantage in doing so... it consumes no resources, and on the rare occasions you might need it again, getting it back is a pain.
If you are using a SIM that does not have any SIM menu programmed into it, the icon will vanish automatically. For example my LG Optimus One shows the STK with a Bell SIM but it vanishes with a Fido SIM.

it's a simore platinum adapter
http://www.simore.ch/en/two_sim_cards_in_one_mobile/dual_sim_card_platinum.php
but it's impossible to use 2 sim at same time, but i can program it to switch automatically (1 hour on sim 1 ,10 minutes on sim 2 )

aw! Thanks for the info!!
Hi guys,
I've never had a dual sim phone and I'm thinking to buy the S4 Mini Duos but I've got soem questions, hope you have time to reply...
- How does the 2 sims works and wich phone options (hide/send N. for a call, ) are available separately for the sims?
- Can I enable the data connection only for one sim of it will enable for both the sims?
- How the phone mange the incomming calls, sms, phonebook ecc.... ?
- How does WahtsApp works with 2 sims?
- Is the I9192 safe rootable at the moment?
- can I enable the sims with the profiles manger? ie: setting "Office" both the sims are enable, "Normal" only the main sim is enable ecc....
Thanks!
1) you choos your sim card to make calls by default, like swiping over a contact, or choose from wich sim make a call/messege
2) you can only use one sim for data, you choose wich one.
3) call on sim1 sim 2 is turned off, you cant recive calls or are redirected to sim1 you choose the behavior you like.
4) whatsapp does not suport that feature, but some time ago y read about a mod to use 2 profiles for whatsapp think you have to choose wich one to use.
5) for me rooting has been easy, flashed and rooted many times over diferent stock firmwares from diferent regions
6) profile manager like cyanogenmod? by now there is no cm for dualsim phones, but you can disable one/other/both sim from sim card manager in settings.

Thanks! That really help me!
So... the cyanogenmod will be never installed on i9192 isn't it? Or you can install the cyanogenmod for i9195 and use it as a single sim?
Is it possible to have two different contact book so I can use a primary contacts for the primary sim and the office contact only when the second sim is actived?
On one hand I'd like to buy the Duos so I can have both the personal and office sim on one device but on the other hand I'd like to buy the i9195 so that I'll get the full cyanogenmod support, cooked ROM ecc..... I can't decide!
You cannot install the CyanogenMod for the 9195 on to the 9192. Different radio hardware.
Support for dual sim in general for any custom rom is very rare and therefore having one for the 9192 may not be in the near future. There hasn't been any developers who have taken up the job and made any visible progress with it.
Hello,
Next week I'm traveling to different country so I'll change my phone number to new Sim, the Sim is a global but made from Belgium.
In Whatsapp plus there is an option to change the number, but I checked the if the app will work with the second number without using this option ant it works very well-I received messages that sent to my first Sim in the app while Sim number 2 was in the phone.
Would it work the same way when I'll be traveling?
Sincerely,

SIM is not used for WhatsApp to work - it is only used to validate your installation ONCE only. After that WhatsApp just uses any Internet connection you have available - Wifi or any other via any SIM Card in the device. You can also pull out the original SIM and use it elsewhere for plain telephony.
Thank you very much tobbbie.
I forgot to write it but it was also one my checks that I did.
VoLte from different service providers are going to be rolled out in India very soon. Is our Phone support VoLte feature?
Or shall we wait for another software update?
Any Custom Rom support VoLte feature at present ?
Pls reply
its supported in OOS 3.2.1
using JIO
I activate it (T-MOBILE Germany) and I can't find the settings in the menu [emoji20]
Any idea where to find?
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using XDA-Developers mobile app
yes, but may depend on carrier, and it's worked since before 3.2.X for me
USA T-Mobile VoLTE works fine.
I've heard USA AT&T VoLTE isn't working yet though. Outside the USA don't know.
Not only is it supported, but you get this ridiculously stupid VoLTE icon in your status bar when you're connected! Hooray!
Yes its supported. Using JIO

Currently you can buy a LYF phone and you will get a JIO connection with it. But it will be locked to that specific handset.
To get a Sim free from handsetlock you need a employee/retailer demo sim.

Im using idea on Sim 1 and Jio Sim 4G on sim 2
Make sire you put the network type to lte on JIO and gsm on the other one.
If you choose LTE for your other sim, since the handset can only support lte fir 1 sim at a time it puts the JIO sim into gsm. And JIO has only LTE band. No 2g or 3g bands. Hence the network drops.

As far as i know. When you choose the mobile data sim in sim cards menu. The option of network type disappears from the settings of the other one. For example. Please look at the attached screenshots.

Yes thats true.. since u told me to set lte for jio sim and gsm for other sim i was confused. At a time only one data connection will be enabled. so i guess the frequent drop is not related to that. Do u face any issue with network drop? im using jio in slot 1 and after couple of hours the network drops and it goes to no network.

I am using mi max 128 GB. mobile data is not connecting with sim 2. With sim 1 it's connecting fine. I tried to connect only 2g also but no use. I had verified the sim with other phone and it's working fine. Both my sims are BSNL and both have working data plans. I tried removing and reinserting sim, rebooting, tinkering with *#*#4636#*#* but nothing worked. To be precise nano sim is working for data connection but micro sim slot i.e sim 2 slot sim is not working for data connection but working fine for calls and messages. Please tell me what to do?

I´m not on Miui to test it, but if you got to Settings -> Sim Cards you can click on Sim-Card 2 and there are some settings like prefered Sim Card Settings or something like that. There you can choose something like for data connection
I bet you've already tried that, haven't you?

I can´t give you an answer for that. I´m in Germany and here is no Xiaomi Support for their Devices. If I was you, I would flash another Rom and test it, but if you have a normal warranty you can go to the next service center and let check it by Xiaomi.

Two Sim Cards from the same network will not work. Try using a different network sim card in slot 2 and check if it works. When you use two simcards from the same network, are you able to call using sim2?
can you not select it from the bottom menu i can switch sim one or 2 but cannot use both at once

From how much time you are facing this issue?
Is it appeared randomly?
Or it happened after doing something?
