Other Interesting Info ...
shnn2011 ..
Many people have reported to me that their tethering no longer works even after killing the tethering manager.
Many have asked me to look into this, here are my findings..
It seems that T-Mobile has implemented a new hidden APN in their ROMs. When you activate tethering, your connected devices seem to be routed through a different APN than your phone uses which is where the block is, if you have not paid the tax.The answer:A. For users:Create a new APN name called "Tethering" and copy the information from your T-Mobile APN to it. There is no need to activate this APN. Immediately after doing so you should regain your full connection. Tested on a SGH-T989 (T-Mobile SGS 2) and reported to work.*B. Mostly for ROM authors:Edit the appropriate configuration files and change all APNs (usually "epc.pcweb.com") to "epc.tmobile.com" or any other working APN such as MVNO APNs ("simple" . . .)All test reports submitted to me report this is working and that my theory was accurate.

My testing says at first boot these are hard coded to the system. I'm not able to get settings to stick post boot. Change these before flashing your rom and it should be permanent.
This changes routing overall, its permanent and even though you get an error in settings works fine if you toggle from the taskbar.

I am an unlimited 4G subscriber and I got tethering to work on v36.
I used the APN settings referenced here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32763688&postcount=1875
And saved the new APN. When you save the APN, the other necessary info is populated in the newly-created APN. Then, I went back into my new APN and added ",dun" to the end of the APN Type section. I then saved the APN again, selected it, and rebooted. Once the phone booted back up, I started tethering via the toggle and it worked. I'm currently watching Netflix on the Xbox and typing this on my laptop using tethering

I am Using .. UVALJ4 Should Work On: UVALH2 - UVALJ4
I do not see why It wouldn't ..
If Someone wants to test it for me ..
Same Setup as Instructed .. Lets Hope It Does!
I also Can Make New APN's For Other Carriers If they Need it.
interesting. I had pretty much given up on using Wifi tether on stock
I switched to CM10 a while ago.. but I may just restore my backup to test this.
tested this on frosty ics v3 , gave me native tethering!!!!!! posted from hotspot!!!! oh yea wifi and usb working.
I'm going to try this on my T mobile note 2 wish me luck!
Still getting the upsell. Is this supposed to remove the upsell page?
I was able to tether on ICS with wifi tether or svtp before; I only had to change the UA string with the browser or use a VPN on the computer to route the data.
This really didn't do anything different for me.
Hmmm .. works for me .. No UA Change.
May have to change UA string with the browser.
If you been banned already
IDK .. That Sucks ..
confirmed !! it works on my note 2 on t mobile thank u !!!!! :good:

Ok I was able to connect using an open network instead of secured, but I got the stupid upsell page too. Damn T-Mobile...
I can confirm this works on Wildchild's Xquizit ROM v36.
Until now, all the APN change suggestions floating around did not work for me. I was always able to connect to the hotspot, but I would get the T-Mobile error page.
This fix DOES WORK! I followed the steps for Option 1 install and I am currently sending this message from my laptop tethering off of my mobile hotspot. I had almost given up hope on tethering.
Is it ok for me to have Wild include this fix into his ROM?
Thank you for this fix!
*EDIT* If you port this fix into the ROM or if anyone applies the fix manually, MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT ATTEMPT to enable hotspot via the settings menu. This will overwrite the changes the fix made to your APN settings and you will get the Tmobile error page again. If this happens, just rerun the delete APN option APN Backup and Restore and then restore the APN fix file again, reboot and you should be good to go. Only enable hotspot via Wanam's hotspot toggle!!
BTW this works regardless of kernal, stock or custom.
You must be a tmobile based tw rom.

I don't see how this works because as long as you are connected to T-Mobile service you are using THEIR data servers and unless you edit their programming on their servers to not sniff for the UA there is no special apn that is connected to T-Mobile which will bypass the sniffing. You can however use a VPN to encrypt your data packets.
For those who "claim" to have it working, you most likely are not on the truly unlimited plan or have not been blocked yet.

correct im on an old mytouch data plan and it wouldnt work before the apn changes. but yes ive never been caught either.
FWIW, I performed installation option 1 on my Tmo Note II to no avail. Wifi Tether does not work, built in hotspot does not work. I have been caught before and am now on the unlimited data package.

It's a routing hack, plain and simple.

BTW WildChild has added the hack I posted into his rom and we've fully got tethering working.
I posted more detailed instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33452688&postcount=2450
And further sent him this tonight to cleanup and make it easier:
datafoo said:
Couple quick things:
I've cleaned up the hack a bit. We can eliminate the pop-up error and make it simpler, eliminate some confusion.
In all cases tethering must be activated from the taskbar, modifications are made from within settings.
1. delete TetheringProvisioning.apk from the builds. I decompiled it and its not critical, it in fact causes the pop-up errors.
2. Add back:
Feature.xml
<CscFeature_Setting_HideApnList>epc.tmobile.com</CscFeature_Setting_HideApnList>
This will hide the new apn that's added each time you activate tethering. it neither enables or disables it.
3. Add back:
customer.xml
but with the original changes I made. This will make sure tethering routes through epc.tmobile.com. This file actually hard codes which gateway services use.

it's actually pretty simple. Let me help you understand. It involves 'routing'.
The default gateway that they try to enforce for tethering is pcweb.tmobile.com. As long as you are routed through that gateway they control tethering. If you change the default routing to epc.tmobile.com it's the same gateway all normal internet traffic is routed and they have no direct idea it's anything other than normal data traffic.
They will indeed still sniff the IE UA string but that's a simple fix both in IE by changing the UA string and or if you use Firefox, Chrome or any other browser which does not send the IE UA.
I'm hard blocked on T-Mobile with the 4G Unlimited plan. I've recieved the hard block push messages and verified it's blocked on my account.
For best results you should also remove 'TetheringProvision.apk'. I decompiled it and it's only there to re-add the pcweb route and pop the error if you dont have tethering on your plan. the customer.xml doc is the hard setting for the routing of GPS, MMS, Tethering and basic Web.
I've personally torn it down and tested it. It works. It's the same basic process we use on HTC.
Enjoy!
Thanx Buddy finally after days got the Tethering on my Samsung Galaxy Note 2.
Notes on my experince
Did method one here:
- I couldn't get TB or Rom Toolbox to convert the app to a system app, and Android Commander wouldn't see root even though I have root and an insecure kernel via debloated stock. I ended up copying the app to the system apps folder using Rom Toolbox Root Browser. This worked fine to move it.
- To "close" the app I had to go into settings and foce close it. Works every time.
I installed the "Tethering Widget" from the play store.
Update: Nope, started getting the webpages and such. Seems the tether stopped working.
BASTARDS!
(Note 2 - T889)
It looks like Tmobile caught on. I was able to get 1-2 hours today on laptop until I was redirected to their hot spots page. So.... Is it all gone now?

Try this
I saw this on another forum. I think it is what you are looking for.
I found a solution to the locked bookmarks.
Requirements:
- Root access
- Root file explorer
- SQLite editor app
Steps
1) Open the SQLite database located at:
/data/data/com.android.browser/databases/browser2.db
2) Open the 'opbookmarks' table
3) Delete all the rows
4) Delete the bookmarks from the browser, like you would delete any other bookmark
It's as simple as that. Those rows correspond to the bookmarks in the 'bookmarks' table and (I guess) just put a lock on them.

This worked, thanks. I honestly didn't think it was going to because I figured the bookmarks were embedded in the browser somehow, but it did. Kudos!
I do wish this site would stop redirecting me to Badoink, though. What the hell? I thought XDA was pretty legit.
This info is gathered from different threads from XDA and not my own findings. Thanks to all the original posts and authors who researched and got the info. These have worked for SG2.
1) Center AOSP lockscreen ring after lowering DPI from 240 to 200 or 182, etc
framework-res.apk - The file that needs to be edited is "keyguard_screen_tab_unlock.xml" this file can be found in framework-res.apk/res/layout

android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:gravity="top"
TO
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:gravity="left|top"
2) Disable/remove status bar on lock screen [thanks to xperiacle] [there are 2 options in the below post, I preferred the 2nd one]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2384892
3) Remove labels from dock icons (touchwiz) [thanks to P123456]
SecLauncher2.apk\res\values-sw320dp-hdpi\styles.xml
line <style name="HotseatIcon" parent="@style/BaseHotseatIcon">
<item name="android:textSize">0.0dip</item>
4) Have AOSP dialer on stock ROM
Got this working with assistance from multiple users in the forum. There are multiple ways to get this working.
a) Borrow "contacts.apk" from Chameleon ROM 3.0.4 for SG2, then Disable signature verification (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/development-derivatives/how-to-t2198834) and place the borrowed apk file into \preload\symlink\system\app, rename "seccontacts.apk" to "seccontacts.apk.bak", delete sym linked "seccontacts.apk" from \system\app, set proper permissions on "contacts.apk" and then create link of "contacts.apk" to "\system\app". Reboot. This will not replace the call screen (for this you need to replace "phone.apk" as well and follow the above procedure.
b) borrow "contacts.apk" from Chameleon ROM 3.0.4 for Sg2, decompile the apk and recompile it back without making any changes. If you get any errors, you may need to fix it. Ideally you should not get any error. The recompiled apk can be installed as a normal application over the installed dialer, thus allowing you to test the aosp dialer. It is always better to replace the file as per above step instead of using the installed app. The installed version will be lost during reboot. This procedure may work on other 4.2.2 based "contacts.apk" (tested using file of Baked rom; however you need to fix some errors that popup during recompile.
5) Enable quick dial button besides stock dialer contacts.
Add following section to /system/csc/feature.xml
<!-- Contacts -->:
<CscFeature_Contact_EnableCallButtonInList>true</CscFeature_Contact_EnableCallButtonInList>
For additional CSC features, refer to "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2033894"
Will add more of these from time to time.

***10/6/14***
Add root check and su version check
populate "Force wifi_ap max users: with current max
Add option to "Clear Prefered APN" (Check this when you use "Enable Native Hotspot" if you want to clear the prefered apn setting.) NOTE: On s3 It is fine to just reboot. For note 3 It is required to use "Enable Native Hotspot" one more time after reboot WITHOUT Clear Prefered APN checked and reboot again for the prefered apn to reset itself. (Untested on models other than these as we don't have them on hand to test) Only use this if you seem to not be able to get hotspot working after one or two tries/reboots

Yes all Sprint Galaxy devices are supported. If no subscription nag pops up it is activated. Check your hotspot config/advanced settings if you are having trouble connecting to it
Your devices may not like the default settings.

Can we domestic sim unlock the sprint note edge or note 4 with this tool. I saw the note 3 can be done, hoping this was already figured out for these phones.

Enable Multi-User on Lollipop Manually
I am on lollipop 5.02 and you just have to enable Multi-User on Lollipop Manually
I followed this and have multi user, just make sure the codes are in lowercase letters and no spaces
Enabling Multi-User on Lollipop Manually
This guide will enable multiuser support on Android One devices running Lollipop which is hidden by default.
Requirements:
1) Rooted device
2) Any text editor
Steps:
1) Browse to root directory and then to /system/build.prop and open in text editor.
2) Add the following 2 lines of code at the bottom of the file and save.
CODES
fw.show_multiuserui=1
fw.max_users=5
3) Reboot and start adding new users or guest users.
Note:
1) Every time on adding a new user phone will soft boot.
2) A new menu option "Users" will appear in the settings menu as well to configure user accounts etc.
3) You can click the top right corner of your screen, i.e. on the profile photo to quickly toggle users.
good luck
Yes, it appears that Samsung is also enabling the ability to create guest accounts on the Galaxy S6 Edge. :good:

just a quick question.. after enabling and setting up user accounts, do u also lose some quick setting toggles??
yes at least in my case I missed the screen rotation toggles and Sometimes when I change from administrator to a different user my mobile data connection is lost, i just have to enable again with a toggle, is a small price to pay for having multi-user while we wait for the new update 5.1.1

Hello friend! Sorry to bother you after a long time since you posted this comment! But I'm very desperate because I'm using a new rom on my Note 4, it's the sixperience port to Note 5!I enabled multi users but when I try to set up a new user or switch to guest mode the device soft boot as you wrote here in your comment! Could please help or give me a clue? I'm not lazy, I'm just looking for a way to start to try to fix this! Sorry about the english! Thanks in advance!
try to be sure you have all the dots and stripes down each line. in multiuserui also make sure is equal to 5 and users equal to 1
No theme option in user mode.
While the editing of the build.prop file works great to get multi user available.
I cannot find any way of changing the theme while on another user.
Anyone know a way?
Ps: this is my first post. Thanks to all the custom rom devs who made my Android experience easier!
