I want WiFi tethering
I have tried a number of 4.2.1 ROMS and still have yet to find one that will let me tether my laptop. I have tried the native wifi tether...and the tethering app... It used to have no issues working with my laptop on 4.1...but since I jumped to 4.2 I can't seem to get anything going here.... Is there a working wifi tether or am I SOL...

Im currently using this ROM and native wifi tether works perfectly fine. I should add that I'm on R6, 4.2( R8 is the current one which is 4.2.1) as I've had no need to update it.
Ok..as soon as I can find a R6 ROM I will give that a shot and see what gives... My laptop connects but it says "limited connectivity" ... basically no internet...
Would the kernel make a difference? If I ran a 4.2 kernel?
Works with the Paranoid Android ROM and Franco Kernel as well.
Damn...PA is a R8 release? What the hell is wrong with mine then..LOL

If you still can't find R6 let me know, I'll upload my copy
I don't tether my laptop since I only use it at home, but I tether my nexus 7 all the time and it works fine on 100% stock and rasbean with trinity.

iLeopard if you could that would be great...it seems like everyone has switched over to R8 builds from what I can see...
Is it at all possible that it could be a kernel issue in 4.2.1 for me? The laptop connects fine, just no internet access...

works with rasbean jelly rom amd trinity kernel.
Took a while, but here it is:
R7
Pretty sure all custom ROMs has this built in. Sounds like it may be an issue with something else.

That's true, however for whatever reason this function was not fully functional in quite a few of the ROM's i've used in the past.
I been trying to get my vita to work with my tether on R8 and muzzy ROM and it connects fine but won't connect to PSN servers. But I hear some people got it to work on 4.1

Use 4.2.1 liquid and sourcery on my gnex. Tether both my laptop and N7 to it no problem with the built in ROM hotspot.

I'm using rasbean and with trinity kernel. And I can't get it to work either. Using wifi tether it gives me errors and won't show the created network. It has errors in the log creating "ap". If I try to use the builtin app it creates an "ap" and allows me to connect, but it won't actually let me to browse the Internet. This is over two rasbean roms and the stock kernel and trinity kernel. I've tried changing the device to the gsm version and I have also tried using different apps. Open garden, barnacle, etc. So I do know what else to do.
Thanks ...

I would first try flashing it clean. Wipe System/Data and Factory reset. Then before installing anything test the Native tether to see if it works. I suggest using Cyanogenmod because many ROMs are built off of it, but that is your choice. I also suggest you try connecting another device to the AP to make sure the problem is not your actual laptop. Try tethering a tablet or another phone and see if it works.
Anybody using AOKP made the Wifi Hotspot to work?
I don't see any error when I enable it, but cannot find the hotspot from my tablet or PC.
Thank you
If you are using a secured connection it won't work. Only open connections work for WiFi tethering.

I'm starting to think the issue is with the ROM. I cannot post the question on the ROM thread because I have less that 10 posts.
I'm using AOKP d2att(4.2.1) Biuld 1.13.2013

You should search the AOKP thread to see what people are reporting. I remember some people saying it had to be set on WAP2 but a search will get you more info.
i just checked Q&A on the aokp thread and it is stated as a known bug ,, wifi tethering is not working , it says bluetooth tethering is working so I guess if we want to use tasks's rom we have to live with that. ,, who know's , maybe there will be a fix in future builds .
Awsome rom none the less!!!!!
I'm looking for a very stable ROM to use my now deactivated EVO to run the IP Webcam software full-time. I've tried running the latest stock rooted ROM but every once in a while it hangs. Would an AOSP rom be any more stable? I only need wifi and to run this one app.
Ideally I'd like to have some kind of watchdog timer to auto reboot the phone in case it hangs.
Is there anything out there well suited for my needs?

I would suggest cm7 (aosp) based ROM. They are stable and have lower system overhead. As long as the software you are using is compatible with gingerbread everything will be fine.

Thanks for the suggestion, just installed the latest Cyanogenmod 7.2 and it's been up and running a few hours now so I'll see how it does this week.
Well it seems to have messed up after about 3 days running on CM7.2.
I think I'm just going to need some scheduled reboot/watchdog timer to keep the thing running, kind of a bummer.

O.O, no joke?
Aircrack is a wireless security tool that tests the APs near you. You can inject/receive packets and decrypt the WEP/WPA key from them. I never thought it would work on Android but sounds legit as Android is a linux.
Btw this should not be on Dev forum please move to general, ;P

Thanks to let us know that work on our device.
But you should, at least, tell the source because it does not seem that you are the developer. And for someone who need support, they can ask on this thead dedicated to this app.

Can you do it for CM 4.3.1 ?
Why does it happens to work under Cyan-Fox 4.4 and not under CM? Does CM11 uses different WiFi drivers?
