[Q] rooted box just did a factory reset - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys
My box for some unkown reason did a factory reset by its self.
Its rooted with the latest rbox pre rooted fimware (rbox menu on boot)
So I did a restore in clockwork mod. After the reboot It went back to asking me to choose my language and the tutorial started.
Any ideas?
This may now mean I have to go through the process of install the google play store again.
May be a coincidence but I had just installed the Teamviewer Quicksupport app
Bah!
Thanks

Odd it would do it by itself. I don't know much about the app you installed. Remember to pm disable updates after factory reset. But, when I forgot to do that it would just boot into recovery when amazon tried to push an update. If you didn't disable them, its possible you selected to restore it when your TV was off...not likely though since there are failsafes (select it then confirm) Only reason I responded is to remind you to disable them again. I forgot to last time.

few questions before I root the KFHD8932GB

Hello, I've just bought my gf the 8.9 32gb version and she's not keen on the overlay UI and the lack of stuff on amazons market so she's asked me to root it.
1) If I root it, can I get it back to default state without showing that its previously been rooted? (any insuring later)
2) If you install the Play store, what device does the store think you have in order to install apps/games etc?
3) its just updated itself, am I right in thinking it cannot be rooted from this latest software? is downgrading easy?
4) Will we lose the things that are already on it? (Full wipe)
Thanks

There's been no change to update methods, the bin4ry method, option 2 has always worked. If you look @ lizzard30's SteriROM 1.2 thread, you'll end up by-passing the whole rooting process, end up rooted, w/android market & more installed. Just make sure you adb drivers are properly installed: Windows 8 will definitely block installation of unsigned drivers, and Windows 7 a bit too--google search disabling driver signature enforcement for the OS your installing computer uses if it's Windows.
As part of the install process, you'll deregister from amazon. All your programs you've installed will be wiped, so if it ain't part of the of the install package you'd have to reinstall. You can select to wipe your SDCARD, but that isn't necessary. Music and documents should still be there.
If you're going Gi Joe this and root, install busybox, then android market, that's kool. You'll need bin4rys root method to root, get busybox installer from 1mobile market website, enable installation of unknown programs. You want the installer for after rooting--install it, open it, install busybox. Then you'll need kindle fire first aid. Don't use KFFA to root or install busybox. Install busybox, it's required to use KFFA. Use KFFA to install market first, then market apps if you'd like.
Good luck! Oh, if you don't deregister and use SteriROM and go medieval instead, visit application manager and wipe data for kindle reader, amazon vod, and silk. Maybe a few other amazon apps ... otherwise not all your stuff will show up.
I've completed every step and everything went perfect but now i've finished and rebooted im not stuck on the first KindleFire orange logo and it goes no further

so, you never get past "Fix the red screen"? and are unable to install TWRP. were there any errors when you installed the ADB drivers? error message do not mean everything is working good
It'd be nice if someone else had input on the TWRP install ... which I haven't done yet.
you might want to post on the steriROM thread (check for sim circumstances)
---
I looked at Hashcode's thread about twrp installation:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128175
notice step 4.5--your Kindle fire would have 8.3.1 on it, you will likely need to download the file and install in fastboot like Hashcode suggests

[Q] "Unfortionately superuser has stopped" Error messege PLZ HELP

Hello to all,
I recently rooted my sgs3 sph-L710 v4.3 and am experiencing some problems. Whenever I try to open superusers it automatically closes, and I receive a notification saying, "security notice an attempt to access a secure area on your phone without authorization has been blocked." After doing some research online I discovered that the 4.3 version is protected by KNOX. Online sources state that in order to defeat the KNOX system you must update supersu, but I am not sure how to do that. Whenever I download supersu from the Google play store there is no option to update it. I would really appreciate any help thanks.

Have you checked to make sure you haven't lost root? When you install an app from Google play, you get the latest version.
sent from my GS3
Also, have you actually opened up the SuperSU app? You need to open it up (not just download it) so that it will prompt you about disabling Knox, and it might also prompt you to update the binaries. And which custom recovery are you using? If need be, you can flash the SuperSU zip from recovery, and if you are using Philz Touch (HIGHLY recommended) there is an option to have it check for root before booting back into system.
I did it!!!

Yes I finally got it to work I just re rooted the device and superuser was gone. However, i downloaded supersu and it prompted me to update, i did and I was able to bypass knox! I think it was a problem with the method I used to get my phone rooted the first time. The video tutorial I watched the first time told me to uncheck the 2 boxes that come prechecked on odin i believe one of them was auto reboot i cant recall the other one. Then I took out the battery of the phone and selected the root file through mod recovery mode and that was it. The second time around I left the boxes checked and my phone auto restarted. I then downloaded supersu updated, rebooted, and Visalia!!!
Thanks guys I appreciate the help.

Help me pls! could not use playstore/google service after root

As title, i root my tab s 8.4 today by the cf-auto root, after that i could not use any Google service.
i tried the method i could search on the forum, reset auto date/time, clear cache, delete google service data/ apps, update these service, factory reset, clean flash rom and its still not working. now i totally cannot download any apps from playstore or use apps that connected to google play.
update: after send to samsung service center, they could not found out whats wrong with my tab. They reflash local original firmware for me(before send i flashed a Russia firmware). somehow they able to erase all stuff very clean without leaving any trace that i mess up and it work perfectly. BTW they did do it free for me (under warranty even i rooted and trigger the knox to 1 with warranty void).

Crikey....then i would reccommend
Flashing http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...recovery-twrp-2-7-1-0-touch-recovery-t2817100 , twrp recovery.
Then this rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/development/prerooted-stock-touchwiz-rom-t2973107 t800/t805
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/development/stock-tw-rom-galaxy-tab-s-8-4-t2995235 t700/t705
If this doesnt do the trick just dwnload the latest firmware for you from sammobile.com , extract the file inside the zip, use odin to flash it...this is the 1.6gb sized file im talking about, it will completely re go over EVERYTHING there is to go over except obviously your personal stuff...you will end up with an unrooted deep factory reset devices...then try another root method...if your feeling brave ...good luck m8

The only thing I can suggest is installing cm11 and flash the gapps package. It should remove google play and reinstall it.

Installer? You need to install twrp recovery. Just download flashify (from playstore) and install the latest twrp.
I assume you have the Tab S 8.4 SMT700? If so http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=54549581 is the link and download for cm11. This is for google apps forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942
And download this for supersu http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
Just download all that.
Heres a video I made for how to install cm12. The procedure to install is still the same. http://youtu.be/K96siaPKtrU

FTV 1 - How to cancel an update that wants to run??

I have a rooted AFTV1 with RBox's boot menu and root installed. I had all Amazon updates blocked via my router's firewall, but when I did a firmware upgrade on it.......it reset my configuration and the FTV was exposed to the update servers. When I realized this, I went to my FTV and it said that it was ready to install an update with a countdown. I was indeed lucky I caught it, and I immediately pulled the power. I was wondering how I should proceed to prevent this update that had been downloaded from running? Will a re-flashing of Rbox's pre rooted rom through the boot menu delete the Amazon update or where are the update files held (located) so I can find and delete them before they have a chance to execute?
I did power back on to be sure the boot menu was still there, but I don't want to fully boot this box again until I know how to prevent losing root & open bootloader for good. I know I should have disabled the update service in the firetv as a backup, but hindsight is 20/20. Thanks in advance.

If you have the boot menue installed correct and running a pre-rotted image it should fail installation. Rbox build in stock image installation protection in his released pre-rooted images.

Post from AFTVnews is referring to a rooted Firetv 2 not 1 what I posted was regarding 1st gen Firetv. FYI rbox fixed recovery for FireTv2 as well in his latest TWRP release.

If you have ClockworkMod installed, the update should fail to install. That said, to be extra safe, I would boot into ClockworkMod and then connect to the device via ADB to have access to the file system. Then, with ADB shell, look for a .bin file in /cache or in /sdcard/Android/data/com.amazon.device.software.ota/files/
If you find one, delete it with the "rm" command.

AFTV1 Downgrade issue

I've seen that some people were able to successfully downgrade AFTV1 after rooting with Dirtycow. I'm able to get root, but downgrade doesn't seem to work and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.
I have an amazon fire TV V1 with 51.1.4.0_User_514006420 software version. I downloaded the 51.1.0.2_user_510058520 update, renamed it to update.zip, followed the guide (here: http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-manually-upgrade-or-downgrade-the-amazon-fire-tv/) for changing the ROM. When I do adb reboot recovery I get this message:
“System update was not successful. Your amazon fire tv will restart in a few minutes and should resume normal operation.”
When it restarts, it’s still on the same version I had. I’ve tried pushing the stock recovery image like the bottom of the upgrade/downgrade guide suggested, but it doesn’t seem to work. Does someone have any other ideas on how to get this to work?
I checked that the update checks out with the md5 hash. I just can’t get it to work. What should I try to do next? Is there a better guide? I'd like to install a pre-rooted ROM.
On the off chance that Amazon changed the 51.1.0.2 image they are serving, try downloading and using the one from here. Then follow my guide here to install it. You should also check the md5 hash value of the 51.1.0.2 image AFTER it has been transferred to the FTV1 by following this guide.
If you still have problems, copy and paste your entire ADB/shell text here so I can see if you did anything wrong.
@AFTVnews.com thanks for the response! I checked the md5 and it seemed to have matched. I re-ran through the steps an it appears I may have put command in cache instead of cache/recovery. It pushed successfully.
Now... it seems like that version of AFTV is strange. It has a lock screen and my aftv remote won't allow me to unlock it. Here is an image of what I see: Locked Amazon fire TV Screen so I can't open it to run towel root. Any ideas?
Update: I was able to get passed the lock screen by clicking a bunch of buttons on the remote at the same time. I'm rooted again! I'll continue the guide! Thanks for your work on this!
Update2: I'm running the latest version of the rooted software. Thanks for the guides!

Awesome. Glad it worked out.
Last night, I stopped after the custom latest rooted version of the ROM was installed. I keep getting "Amazon is unable to connect to the service" when going to the different menu options. Do I have to disable my firewall rules on my router, or was it just an oddity?

I confirmed that I'm still getting the unable to connect to service last night. Should I just do a factory reset? Would that help? At this moment, the only way for me to launch apps is to go through System -> Manage Applications and it's really annoying. I was able to confirm that Kodi was able to connect to the internet, so I know that it's not the connection.

Since you're rooted and on the latest prerooted ROM, you should remove the domain blocks on your router/firewall. It sounds like that's the issue. Just be sure you have done method 1 at the very least from my update blocking guide. You can also do method 5 to be extra safe.
I tried removing the firewall blocks but I still get "We are currently unable to contact our servers." Should I re-add the firewall blocks and factory reset?
UPDATE: I was able to resolve this by signing in to my amazon account. Apparently for some reason it signed me out. Thanks for all of your help!
