Hi guys,
I currently have my HTC One (M8) rooted / unlocked with TWRP 2.7.1.0.
I've also currently running on Android Revolution HD 10.2 on my phone.
I've read and found that Lollipop has just been released for my region (HTC_044) which can be found here :
http://www.carbontesla.com/2015/01/htc-one-m8-4-19-707-2-lollipop-ota-asia-wwe/
I would like to update my phone in accordance to this latest OTA (Latest firmware / hboot / etc).
What would the steps needed to install the OTA? Or as in the website, there is also a nandroid backup. If I flash the Nandroid Backup, would I have the latest hboot / firmware etc? I am planning to install the latest Android Revolution HD ROM later for Lollipop as well.
Do I need relock my bootloader / re-install my stock recovery / re-install stock rom?
Please advise.
Phone Information :
Model - HTC One M8

The main steps in upgrading are to restore the nandroid backup that matches your main version number and flash back the HTC stock recovery and then perform official ota's. Those ota's will take care of the hboot upgrade and such.

Hi Mr Hofs,
Thanks for the reply, so that would mean I don't have to re-lock my bootloader right for the OTA to be able to upgrade my firmware etc?
Cheers

correct, you do not have to relock the bootloader.
Can I use a Nandroid Backup with the Lollipop Version itself or must I use a stock nandroid backup with Kit Kat and then upgrade to Lollipop?

Its wise to update officially via the current kitkat nandroid backup. Because when the ota is installed correctly you know for sure that the hboot/firmware and software are oke and upgraded as should
Another quick question,
What if I've already downloaded the OTA file itself? What are the proper steps to update?

if using nandroid backup relock is not necessary will also work with unlocked bootloader tried many times its working..
he just have to be sure to use stock boot.img and stock recovery from nandroid or the mainversion

Just a quick question that I'm sure I know the answer to but want to double check first.
I want to return to stock firmware for OTA updates but im on ARHD 5.0 (4.4.2).
ROM version 1.54.401.5
My hboot in bootloader says HBOOT-3.16.0.000 and Radio 1.15.2133156.UA13G.
I've seen 2 guides on here for returning to stock. Can i use wither of them or is one better than the other? I dont have any nandroid or recovery backups that I did myself.

What was your original software version? Doesn't help going on ARHD's ROM version if you previously ran a Rogers Canadian version for example.
What was your CID? Software version prior to custom ROM?
More details then we can provide better help as well.

The original version would have been 4.4.2 as i bought it in June and installed ARHD pretty much straight away.
The CID is HTC_001
I havent installed any new kernals either.

Ok when I said version I meant 1.54.xxx.x etc but it's fine, HTC__001 would make it 1.54.401.5/10.
So go to the Collection thread(you posted link yourself in OP) and download the backup for the HTC__001 1.54.401.10. Restore the backup, flash back stock recovery(also available on that thread) and you're good for OTA.
Flash back stock recovery -
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
But you can also get the details on how to flash and where to unpack the backup .zip file you'll download in the first 2 posts of the collection thread. :good:

Sorry yes i was originally on 1.54.401.5 but then did an OTA to 1.154.401.10 before installing ARHD. Can I just flash the nandroid for 1.154.401.10 then and it will work?
Will I still be rooted If i restore the nandroid and stock recovery or will that depend if the uploader rooted it first? as i want root and keep unlocked bootloader but want stock firmware with OTA updates.

In general the nandroid backups aren't rooted, as they try to recover the original stock ROM. Thus you will loose root be going back to stock. I would do the following:
restore nandroid 1.54.401.10
flash 1.54.401.10 stock recovery
perform ota to 2.22.401.5
flash custom recovery (e.g. TWRP)
flash SuperSu zip
Following that way, you'll get your M8 updated to latest stock ROM and regain root.

Yoda
Thanks that's perfect

Sorry mate,
have been on vacation for a few days.
Did you try to perform the OTA before or after reflashing the custom recovery?
So long story short I screwed up.
Flashed a custom recovery and didn't backed up the stock one, I already tried checking several threads with the nandroid backups and recoveries but not the one for my device.

Doesn't appear to be one. I'd S-OFF your device and then just flash the unbranded Developer Edition RUU instead as I don't think there have been any updates for your version

I never expect some people are still on 1.x version. I removed all my nandroid backups for 1.x
Guess I need to reupload all 1.x bakups again :crying:
You can use 1.57.599.1 backup and then update all the way to the latest lollipop version 4.20.599.3 (1.57.599.1 --> 2.25.599.1 --> 3.36.599.2 --> 4.20.599.3)
If you still runs the stock 1.12.599.20 but don't have the stock recovery, what you can do is download the OTA but select install later, copy the OTA zip to PC. Open the OTA zip with 7-zip, open firmware.zip, extract out the recovery.img <--- use this recovery.img to proceed OTA installation

No, not correct. There is no need to lock bootloader for OTA.
OTA will remove root.

Hello guys, does anyone have a 3.29.166.9 twrp backup? Or a m8 with cid-vodap110 so he or she can make a fresh nandroid backup so i can go back to stock. I tried x.x.161.x backups but they don't work with cid-vodap110. Vodap110 is specific cid for Swisscom ch. Thanks in advance
No one has it?
Why don't you contact the other guy that already updated to 4.xx.166.x
Ask him for system part only. Then you can use it to update by flashing firmware first.
(I have the firmware but no backup)
Are you running a rooted/modified stock ROM now ? If yes, you can backup that and upload for me.. I will try to fix the error.
If you're running a custom ROM, you can flash the updated firmware and then install a lollipop custom ROM ... this can be done too.

I'm running a 4.16.401.10 stock firmware, and it works great even if it's not for my cid,but i would like to have official ota and for that i need stock firmware. I contacted many users with .166 firmwares but no one want's to make a backup :/
You don't run 4.16.401.10 stock firmware but you run a stock 4.16.410.10 ROM.
You can flash your stock firmware 4.19.166.2 then run 4.16.401.10 .. at least you can have a lollipop firmware running a lollipop software.

Need to totally factory start my HTC ONE M8
Hi guys, i really hope you can help me here.
I have a HTC ONE M8. It is a UK version on EE carrier. the CID is ORANG001. in fast boot it is blank next to OS- (don't know if tyhat matters at this point) I have S-Off through SUNSHINE. I have no oringinal back up. I have tried flashing the recovery found in my OTA updtate and several others that say they should work in various other threads, all through ADB Fastboot says it sends and writes ok but has no effect.
I have unrooted, factory booted, and am at the end of my tether. EE will not replace the handset if it is tampered and i really dont want to have to pay for a totally new one.
Hello,
Please help me. I have rooted my HTC One M8, installed TWRP latest edition, installed Super Su i.e successfully rooted..
But now i need to unroot it. I mean revert it back to stock. I have been searching the internet for almost a week now and not finding anything except http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/help-returning-phone-to-stock-eli5-t3247725 but even in this i'm not able to find required files.
My phone has following specifications:

Restore 4.18.720.8 backup and 4.18.720.8 stock recovery then do OTA to 4.18.720.10

Well thank you for fast reply sir. I am in india but that's not a problem. The PC does'nt download from mega site and the file is too large to download through phone.
One more thing, I have 3.35.720.1 recovery image (14.22MB)...
If i downloaded the third file from this list; androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=24511. Can i do something then.. the CID is also HTC_038.
If i can, then how? Using above steps you provided or something else?
No, 3.35.720.1 won't work for OTA because that's more than one version lower than your current one.
You only can use either 4.18.720.8 or 4.18.720.10
Try to contact 4.18.720.8 backup owner and see whether he can help you.
Also ask him whether he has 4.18.720.10 backup (I believe he has one).
If there is one, use 4.18.720.10 instead of 4.18.720.8

Hey friend, first of all i'd like to thank you for all your help. i think i got it back to Stock but not sure though.
I re-locked the bootloader then using PC i installed
RUU_M8_UHL_L50_SENSE60_MR_hTC_Asia_India_4.18.720.8_Radio_1.24.21331147A1.09G_20.68.4196.01_F_release_417228_signed.exe and when the phone rebooted.. i didn't find Super SU and when i rebooted into bootloader, i saw this:
Software Status: Official
RELOCKED
however my software is now 4.18.720.8 instead of 4.18.720.10 but that's no problem at all.
Now you tell me,
am i back to Stock?
is my phone unrooted now?
how can i install the latest update, using software update or do i have to find the RUU for that?
How do i myself take a stock backup since TWRP is removed.
1. Yes but one version lower
2. Yes
3. Settings - about - software update
4. Unlock bootloader with your unlock_code.bin that you got from htcdev then install TWRP 2.8.7.0
then do backup

if i unlocked bootloader, wouldn't that make the software modified or phone rooted?
And the backup which i will take, will that be a Stock Backup i.e fully unrooted, official software, etc
Also how can i take stock recovery backup? i mean recovery.img
unlocked bootloader - software modified, yes. Phone rooted, no. Root or not to root is your choice nothing to do with unlock bootloader.
If a backup made before you root the phone, yes that will be unrooted official software stock backup (just like those you can see in my thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860)
When you do OTA, before install OTA, copy the OTA zip from internal storage/downloads folder to PC. Open it with 7-zip, open firmware.zip then extract out recovery.img - this is the stock recovery.img (that's how I get all the recovery.img in my thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860)
You already managed to get back to stock after you spent a week to find how to do it ... so anything further that you need to know, all the info are available on xda like how to unlock, how to root, how to backup & etc .. just use the search function, you'll get the info. The same way how I gave you links .. I use the search function. I believe you can do this on your own.
Good luck.
