[Q] Can't Flash anything - Oppo Find 7 and 7a

Hey guys, I need some help with my phone, basically I can't flash anything from recovery, I've tried DU 9.0, Nameless 5.0.2, Cyanogenmod 12 and DU 8.2 (4.4.4). I think something is wrong with my partitions, But I don't know how to fix it. I'm using the latest TWRP (2.8.4.0, and 2.8.4.0 nameless for flashing nameless). I've also attached 3 logs, for some reason with DU9 the log is only the last second of recovery or something. I don't know what's wrong, The only thing that works right now is restoring to one of my backups, so that's what I'm using, but I'm anxious to try some lollipop! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
-e

Here is the log from trying to install Cyanogenmod
When I install Nameless or DU9, script succeeded, result was 0.200000
When I install DU 8.2, script succeeded; result was /system
When I install Cyanogenmod, script succeeded, result was [t]
Cyanogenmod install also tells me that it detects the file system of system as ext4
detected filesystem ext4 for /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/system
This is a shot in the dark, but is that incorrect? Is it supposed to be ext3 or something?

Installing ROM without included kernel & recovery

Hello forum,
i'm currently trying to find the best software solution for my Xperia Z1 Compact and i already got close to what's possible.
I found this ROM which is working almost perfectly except that it overrides the recovery with a dual recovery with an older TWRP version which prevents me from doing critical flashes and backups.
I only need TWRP 3.0.2 on /recovery, nothing else like PhilZ or anything else.
When i flash TWRP 3 for Z1C and reboot to recovery or press Vol-Up when booting i get a blackscreen boot loop which can only be fixed by flashing an old TWRP or wiping the entire phone from fastboot.
Another problem is that updater-script formats /system and /data to ext4 and mounts them like that which is a problem because i'd like to have F2FS on all of my partitions.
I already tried removing /kernel/ and /dualrecovery/ from the .zip and modifying updater-script to not format both patititons and mount them as F2FS, but when trying to flash this modded .zip it fails to flash (probably because an integrity check?).
So what i need to do is:
Remove recovery from .zip
Remove kernel from .zip
Modify updater-script to not format any partitions and mount them as F2FS
Any help, resources and tipps are appreciated. I'm running Windows 10 x64 but i don't think i'm able to build a ROM on my own as i have only little programming experience.

I don't know much, but I am surprised that flashing twrp 3 causes that problem. What method are you using? Try using Rashr to flash twrp 3 img, then try to boot to recovery. If vol up doesn't work, try vol down, (that's what works for me). Somehow I don't think you'll be able to just remove those things from the ROM and have it flash fine. Your better chance is to get twrp flashed, then figure out the F2FS, etc. Also, there are custom kernels for stock-based roms, and don't forget that twrp 3 is not official on Z1compact, so read threads thoroughly to make sure what you're trying to do is supported. I know many of us have twrp 3 on our phones, so I would look more into that.
Hi,
I had the same issues and maybe this helps.
- install your rom and go into dual recovery and choose twrp
- in twrp go to install and choose "IMG" and not "ZIP"
- you can now install the new twrp version via install !
Maybe you should not flash that ROM because it seems to contain malware. Have a look into the thread.

system partition size reduced, Please somebody solve my issue

Honorable forum members,
i can't explain my problem more detailed than this and attached logs and screenshots
I am having a problem with my redmi 1s since 4 days (reporting daily to everybody and every thread i know, Now i came to some conclusion *from my point of view*) i.e., System partition size reduced ( due to "My fault" of trying to expand system storage). Now i can't flash any custom rom on my phone. (Except CM11). I'm getting an error, i.e.,
1. strucks at - "Patching system image unconditionally"
2. and some times it gives me an error "E/system unable mount" and breaks operation here.
I was using CM14.1 official rom till 12th of this month ( So no need to doubt about proper installing of custom rom). As i'm unable to install any custom rom on my phone (tried CM12,13,14,14.1, RR, AICP). Then i tried MIUI. Surprisingly I can install MIUI from recovery (works well) but not from fastboot (by fastboot, after installation strucks at Mi Logo, wiping cache and dalvik cache doesn't work too). ***Another big wonder is that i'm able to install CM11 (works well but not used gapps)***. I think my phone no longer upgrades from Kitkat. Is it true?
Then after several research and several suggestions from some honorable forum members i found that (may be) the problem is with system partition. i.e., My system partition size decreased. It was my fault. I tried to increase my system partition to install aroma gapps (in the need of OK Google voice recognition from any screen and due to some google apps were creating a lot of cache) using a thread on increasing system partition size from our forum (not to specify). Then i realized that i'm not the one who can modify anything on somebody Else's rom- as after receiving a update, it took one after another all the google apps from me.
Then i used revert back flash file from the same thread, but it took something extra along with my some of my phones original system partition size. Tried restoring backup but not worked.
While installing custom rom it strucks at " patching system image unconditionally" (waited every time at least an hour), as i'm not being able to do anything, so i restart my phone. Then when i try again it gives me an error "E/System unable to mount". Then if i try to wipe or resize or repair nothing works gives same error. But if i format using f2fs and then again using ext4, then i can mount system partition in MOUNT in twrp (also tried Philz recovery and CM recovery- same issue). After Mounting when i try to install again it strucks at " patching system image unconditionally". So same cycle continues. But when i try to insatll MIUI or CM11 it works fine -after mounting system partiton ( not even takes command i.e., " patching system image unconditionally" in terminal).
Also i tried to flash the rom using adb sideload strucks at 45%, checked the rom file whether corrupted by extracting and for exact rom redownloaded. But there is no improvement.
Maybe Because of this I'm not being able to flash any custom rom on my device anymore. I've took some recovery log files and some screenshots from recovery of my phone. Here below i'm attaching them.
Finally i would like to inform you that
i) i'm using latest recovery- twrp 3.0.2-1,
ii)and latest firmware- v8.1.2.0. (used whichever firmware required for every rom).
iii) Now i'm using global stable MIUI v8.1.2.0
So now i request you all to please help me in installing a custom rom on my Redmi 1s.
I have updated the tutorial with the solution for your problem follow this link

OOS 4.0 with F2FS, help me decide please..

Hello,
I've just installed the new OOS4.0, and I also wanted to update the filesystem to F2FS:
I've managed to get everything working with twrp-3.0.2-1.28 (ext4 cache/system - f2fs userdata) but then, I enrcypted the data via the settings menu, and now the TWRP fails to decrypt (password invalid). I understand that this is some kind of incompatibility since if I try with the official recovery it decrypts without problems.
Since I still have to copy all my userdata to the phone and install everything, what should I do before?
a) Keep data encrypted and wait for a TWPR fix, and eventually flash with the official recovery if needed?
b) Reformat and keep the data unencrypted?
c) You tell me?
Thank you for your help.
This is the only reason why I am still waiting for a proper twrp first. Don't want to decrypt my storage, and move all the data from my phone to laptop and then back to phone. Too much of a hassle.

I can't answer your question, but can I ask how you converted the data partition from ext4 to f2fs? I have TWRP 3.0.2-1.28 and OOS 4.0 already installed, and was wondering what the best way to do it is.
Do custom ROMS such as CM14.1 and XenonHD support f2fs?
Now, if I'm on OOS 4.0, no root, stock recovery; how can i get F2FS?? Thanks!

Well, I have tested this method both on OpenBeta9/10 and OSS4.0-
MOST IMPORTANT - FLASH TWRP .23, .28 HAVE BUGS WITH DECRYPTION AND F2FS (TESTED AND REPORTED BY MANY USERS)
1.) Flash 4.0 through stock recovery for dm verity error or flash 4.0 modem + firmware through twrp, skip this step if u r already on 4.0
2.)Copy all internal data to pc and make nandroid backup if needed.
3.)Wipe data to f2fs and cache/system to ext4.
4.)As wiping all these partitions, decryption will be gone and rom will be wiped, flash ur OSS 4.0(I prefer Builds like Experience Rom - https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/development/rom-experience-rom-v1-0-t3522259 OR HyperStock - https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/development/hyperstock-t3521946 , this one doesn't tiggers encryption and dm verity error.)
5.)Wipe cache and dalvik and reboot.
6.)Setup and install DiskInfo app to check partitions.
I know this method is bit lengthy, but u will get as u needed, decryption and f2fs for data with no dm verity errors.

Well, u can try flashing stock recovery and do factory resets for 1-2 times.
I have tested this on ob9 and got f2fs without wiping storage( As told by devs)
If this method doesn't works, then simply unlock bootloader, flash twrp and decrypt data with fastboot or through twrp cos someday u have to decrypt ur data.
Grab a holiday or sunday, copy all data and backups.
Enjoy F2FS life. :good:

Brother, as u have flashed experience rom which already contains 4.0 modem + firmware, then dm verity shouldnt pop up.
Try to download and flash 4.0 modem+ firmware again through twrp, if this didnt help then try Hyper Rom.
If nothing helps, then follow the procedure i mentioned, backup all apps through titanium backup and sync all google stuff, make nandroid if any thing goes wrong, download official 4.0 full zip, flash stock oxygen recovery and do a adb side load.
Then flash twrp and clean flash experience or hyper rom u needed and restore apps back with titanium backup.
Report if something goes wrong

I did try to do the last thing that you mentioned. I flashed the official 4.0 through sideload. And dm-verity issue did vanish. But I thought of changing everything to f2fs. So I changed the type of system, data and cache. And flashed the Experience rom. But then, a strange thing started to happen. I just couldn't save any screenshot or pics I click but I was able to install or delete apps. So, I again went to TWRP (was really a hassle because I had to delete everything on phone and change system and cache to ext4 leaving just the data on f2fs and then doing several reboots and factory resets to get everything working). And then I flashed Experience Rom and I'm back to square one with dm-verity...
Still, I'd try to flash 4.0 firmware + modem files explicitly. And then I'll report. Thanks for the info, brother. :good:
EDIT: I tried to flash the 4.0 firmware + modem files but no luck with dm-verity issue..
Btw, I've a question. What's the downside of having this issue besides having that splash screen of warning on every boot up?
Can anyone properly give instruction on how to install OOS 4.0 without getting dm error + F2FS?
there's a lot of instruction in other thread that making this confusing.

Procedure -
1.) As mentioned, BACKUP EVERYTHING.
2.) Flash stock oxygen recovery though fastboot or in twrp.
3.) Boot to stock recovery, sideload Official 4.0 ota via adb.
4.) Reboot and dont set up device ( not necessary ) enable developer settings and usb debugging.
5.) Flash TWRP .23 NOT .28 (.28 is bugged with decryption and f2fs errors)
6.) Boot to twrp, wipe /data to f2fs and /system and /cache to ext4.
7.) As wiping everything, copy any custom oxygen os build and supesu 2.79
8.) Flash any custom oxygen os build ( all these 3 builds flashes supersu itself, so no need to flash supersu, buy keep it for further later use.)
9.) Reboot, Setup and copy all ur stuff.
This method will surely get u a Rooted, decrypted, f2fs /data partition Oxygen Os 4.0.
For Stock/Twrp Recovery, Encrypted/Decrytped, Locked/Unlocked Bootloader, Unrooted Users (Those who dont want to root or decyrpt) -
1.) Backup is necessary as internal storage will be wiped, its a one time process as for now every Oneplus update will be f2fs /data compatible.
2.) ADB sideload 4.0 ota.
3.) Reboot and dont set up device ( not necessary )
4.) Go to backup and reset in settings, do a factory reset with internal storage ( This will wipe everything, BACKUP NEEDED )
5.) Let the process complete and check /data partition via DiskInfo app.
6.) If it isnt, do a factory reset again via stock recovery.
7.) If nothing helps, follow first method.
I cant guarantee this will work, but many users have reported this as working.
I think this will be sufficient.
^thanks for the instructions

Thank you for root users.
But if you flash Oxygen recovery & Oos 4.0 via adb you have just to wipe all in Oxygen recovery and your partition data make f2fs ?
After flash Twrp and custom Oos build.
I read in many post for flash Oos 4.0 you must have Twrp modify 28 ? With the 23 work too.
The problem they are no solution for root user to format data f2fs and flash custom Oos 4.0 directly with Twrp ?
Many root users flash custom Oos 4.0 with Twrp 27 but don't format to f2fs ! Stay in Ext4 and that run great. Ex : Fos.

On my phone what ever oos i install, 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2, data it's formated to F2FS.
To remove DM-verity message it's easy.
Boot to FASTBOOT and type this commands one after another:
fastboot oem disable_dm_verity
fastboot oem enable_dm_verity
Now i'm on FreeDom 2.3 (oos 4.0.2) with twrp-3.0.3 x v.15 blu spark 23.01.17

Pie, TWRP and vendor partition help

So I've been running Oreo Omnirom and I'm looking at moving to Android Pie. I have never installed any of the OnePlus Beta's or any other Pie based ROM.
I am currently running TWRP version twrp-3.2.3-0-20180822-codeworkx-dumpling and from the date code, it looks like to could be a little old. When I jump into TWRP, I get errors that no vendor partition is found.. I have always ignored this as I was on Oreo and didn't need/care about a vendor partition. This also led me to believe that the version of TWRP I am using support the vendor partition.
Is there an easy way to create and format the vendor partition? Is my TWRP version too old? I tried running twrp-3.1.1-x_blu_spark_v8.55-op5_op5t as recommended in another thread (even tho it's older) and I had to re-flash TWRP via fastboot because that IMG file no worky...
I am trying to avoid formatting my data since my phone has a larger drive than my computer. If someone could point me in the right direction, it would be very much appreciated.
Flashing twrp-3.1.1-x_blu_spark_v8.55-op5_op5t or twrp-3.2.3-0-20190311-codeworkx-dumpling.img (both TWRPs for PIE) wont boot to recovery. Both boot to a blank screen with the notification LED turned blue. I assume that this is because I am still on Oreo firmwares... Seems like I have a chicken and egg sort of situation going on here....
Flashed OxygenOS_5.1.4 full OTA. /vendor partition was not created, but I only booted until I reached the lockscreen at which point told me that my password was incorrect. Do I need to remove my lockscreen password in Omni and try again?

Remove your security before flashing anything and then try 5.1.4 full OOS zip. If that works, great. OTA up to latest, or as far as it will allow and then use the full zip files available in the forum to get onto latest Pie. You'll need to fastboot flash latest Pie TWRP (codeworkx) when you get up to date.
If you run into security problems you might have to try a clean flash, or even format. Make sure you are in front of your PC before beginning and backup everything.
Still having no luck here.
Here is what I have done to try and get TWRP to recognize a /vendor partition:
Formatted Data
Side loaded OnePlus5TOxygen_43_OTA_037 in TWRP
Flashed OTA_037
Booted OxygenOS and completed setup
Rebooted to bootloader
Flashed twrp-3.2.3-0-20180822-codeworkx-dumpling
Rebooted to TWRP recovery
At this point I am STILL getting 'Failed to mount '/vendor' (invalid argument)'.
WTF am I doing wrong? How to I create a /vendor partition?

hi, may be this will help you, see post #2 from this thread:
"..... (because 5.1.4 creates the vendor partition and 5.1.5 fills ot)"
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5t/help/solved-twrp-error-7-vendor-partition-t3846181
My thought process was that if 5.1.4 creates the /vendor partition, then TWRP should still be able to recognize it and mount that partition... I'm not sure if I care if it's full or empty at this point... I fear that I will download another 1.6GB of data just to find that the update wont happen because /vendor cannot be found... Unless I am completely wrong...
Well dang... I was wrong. Flashing 5.1.5 patched the /vendor partition and removed the error in TWRP.
Thanks for the help guys.
Mods please close (solved).

Nexus 7 2013 ERROR: 7

Hi, I'm new here. I did some searching and couldn't find any answers regarding my problem exactly. I'm using TWRP to update my Nexus 7 2013 (flo). I have been successful in the past - as recently as yesterday. Something happened along the way and now I only get an error when attempting to flash ROMs.
I have been trying Lineage 16 and 17.1. I did do the repartition, but I get the same error on both ROMs:
Installing zip file '/sdcard/Download/lineage-17.1-20200803-UNOFFICIAL-flo.zip'
Checking fir Digest file...
Warning: No file_contexts
Target: google/razor/flo:6.0.1/MOB30X/3036618:user/release-keys
Patching system image unconditionally...
E1001: Failed to update system image.
Updater process ended with ERROR: 7
Error installing zip file /sdcard/Download/lineage-17.1-20200803-UNOFFICIAL-flo.zip'
Updating partition details...
...done
I have tried to edit the text to eliminate the "asserts" - no help. I downgraded TWRP one version, no help. What else can I do. I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to this, and I'm willing to "hold hands" to get a solution if there is one. Thanks!

In TWRP go Advanced Wipe and wipe system/data/cache/dalvik before installing the ROM.
If it still does not work and you wish to investigate it, please 'install' this zip in twrp, find 'logs.tgz' in the root of internal storage and post it here.
If you just want this ROM installed ASAP then do:
RESTOCK (select repartition to original factory layout)
CROSS
:fingers-crossed:
Thank you! I actually started over - completely wiped the tablet, repartitioned it, flashed the ROM, and Gapps, and it's fully functioning again. It just didn't like something in the process before, I guess.

Hi,
i have too this problem.
I wipe everything, flashed the repartitioning zip and still havoc 3.3 cannot be flashed. What i have to do? thanks
The solution for me was to just completely wipe the storage - everything, and start over. Once wiped, I repartitioned, flashed the ROM (I used Resurrection Remix), and then GApps. The tablet seems to be fully functional at this point, but it's showing its age.
Good luck!

OK, the relevant error is...
Code:
erasing 18342 blocks
BLKDISCARD ioctl failed: Invalid argument
failed to execute command [erase 4,223772,228864,229950,243200]
new data receiver is still available after executing all commands.
script aborted: E1001: Failed to update system image.
E1001: Failed to update system image.error: 1001
Updater process ended with ERROR: 7
It seems your eMMC hardware version is <4.4
But RESTOCK should work.
Thanks, but I'm running a linux desktop, so I can't really run RESTOCK. Is there a guide somewhere to run the commands in RESTOCK manually?
EDIT
I've reviewed your logs. For the custom ROM to work you need repartition. Install sysrepart-max.zip then reboot and now install the ROM. If gapps are needed, use pico.
It worked! Thanks

Thank you so much! It worked perfectly. In the beginning it didn't work, I just reboot the device after wiping system/data/cache/dalvik, then tried again to install the ROM, Now my device has the new ROM working without problem.
Getting error 70 in twrp when installing Opengapps (pico) even BitGapps

This is a Nexus 7 forum, not Error 7 forum, lol.
The error indicates a too small 'system' partition and you need to enlarge it. You will find a solution on Nexus 10 'manta' forum.
Ok thanks - I did not see that at first. My fault. Do you know a special Error 7 Nexus 10 Forum? Or am I just right here?
