Problem with HTC Diag driver, and MSL#... Please help!

So I tried following one of the guides posted here at XDA to retrieve my MSL#.
** EDIT **
XDA FORUMS WILL NOT allow me to post links, because I have a new account, and it hasnt been approved. So I am just going to post the links to the screenshots without the "http" in front. I also had to remove the "." from the first part of the web address. So "google.com" would be "google com". You will have to manually copy and paste the URL, and add the periods to first part of the address.
IF A MOD IS READING THIS CAN YOU PRETTY PLEASE APPROVE MY ACCOUNT? Thanks!
I followed this guide:
forum xda-developers com/showthread.php?t=697487#
I downloaded the pre-requisites, and started to follow the steps.
I am on Windows 7 32bit, and these instructions are for Windows 7 64bit.
Once I cam to the section where I chose my drivers I chose the ones for x86 since I am running 32bit.
It installed the drivers fine. However, it installed the device under the "PORTS" section of the "Device Manager".
The screenshots for the instructions show the device being installed under the "MODEMS" section.
So I thought I did something wrong, and before doing any further research, I decided to delete the device that was installed under the "PORTS" section. I figured by doing this I could start from scratch, and correct whatever it was that I did wrong. Dumb move!!!
I removed the drivers from "C:\windows\system32\drivers" and also from "C:\windows\system32\driversstore\filerepository"
I unplugged my phone, rebooted my machine, dialed "##3424#" to enter diagnostic mode, connected my phone to the computer, and it DID NOT recoginze any new hardware.
I also tried removing any references from regedit for "htcdiag", which is the driver that was installed.
This produced the same result.
I have attached screenshots of the devices currently in my device manager.

No, but at this point I am less worried about the MSL, and more worried about getting the android phone to show up properly under the device manager. When I rooted the phone I installed a modified HTC USB Driver, and then my phone showed up under device manager. As you can see from the screenshots my phone does not show up in device manager AT ALL anymore.
I know this was a rookie move, but someone must have done this before, or at the VERY least must have some suggestions on how to get the drivers reinstalled on my machine for my phone.
Anyone.... Bueller? Bueller?

Have you plugged the phone in and tried "scan for hardware changes"?
Still no luck.....The HTC website has a support section with drivers you can download.
OR-
Do you have the android sdk installed on your computer? There is a usb driver package you can use in the sdk.
If you still cannot get it to connect, then flash a rooted stock rom and see if your computer can connect then.
As far as your MSL, just call Sprint and ask them. The rep will ask why you need it. Just tell them your phone has been acting odd and that you are going to do a reset, which you have done before in the past ; ). They will then transfer you to a tech which will ask you again why you need it. Just respond the same about doing a reset, which you have done many times before.....you will then have your MSL - takes only a couple of minutes.

Install only USB driver from HTCSync

Hi, here is an easy way to only install the drivers from the HTCSync package.
Double clic on setup_3.0.5579.exe (dwnld from HTC support site)
Choose the language and clic next (stop when it list the things to install: air,...)
Go to c:/user/yourname/AppData/Local/Temp
Order the files by date and choose the last folder created (so the temp folder were the files were extracted for the full package install)
Delete all *.prq except the ones for the drivers (3 files, 2 if you choose between x86 and x64)
Clic next in the HTCSync install box.
All deleted prq will be 'installed' but in fact no
Check... only drivers are installed
nb: do this if you don't have a sense ROM and don't need HTCSync of course.
Hope this will help
Just install the whole thing, then uninstall only htc sync (not drivers) from control panel. Dead easy.
Why do it simply, when you can do it complicated, huh? Sheesh...
After drivers installation, cancel instalation of Sync. Done.
Why this 'complicate' way? Because I only know 2 way to install the driver: via HTCSync install or via the Android SDK + Android driver install.
I only have a small SSD, so I want to avoid as much as possible to write files I don't want on the drive.
1 - Any install + uninstall process leaves 'unneeded' files, so I want to avoid it.
2 - HTCSync installs few things before the drivers and HTCSync (C++, Adobe AIR, don't remember exactly...),
3 - I don't need the full Android SDK install, and this is needed to download and install the google driver.
These were my main reasons.
I found questions of people who tryed to install only the ADB driver, so I thought this easy (for me) way could be helpfull for someone... sorry if I was wrong
And best of all I posted in the wrong thread
(I don't have a Desire...)
What are you talking about?
I just try to explain why I wanted to install ONLY the driver for my DHD.
I answer the questions.
That's cool, but you are still doing it the complicated way.
Yep... My initial idea was to extract the driver from the HTC package but I didn't know how to get it.
I tryed to open the exe to get the driver (with 7zip) but It fails.
Then I tryed to open the prq I had when launching the exe but before any file install... It fails again.
If you know how to extract just the drivers files from the HTC exe package I'm interested. But I don't want the install/uninstall process for the reasons I gave previously.
It could look complicate but this was the only way I found to install ONLY the drivers without anything else. Please share a better solution if you have it (and I'm quite sure there is one).
Thx! It was really helpful!
Works a treat on the latest HTC Sync v3

Minimum pollution USB driver installation

For USB driver only installation I normally recommend the thread by SamHaLeKe. However the download link is offline again due to... that would be an endless story.
I know the USB drivers have been uploaded to other sites but I do not know how good and frequently these are maintained.
Anyway: I just decided to write this little list of instructions so everybody will be able to extract the USB drivers from the official Samsung Kies download himself as long as Samsung does not provide a download link (yes Samsung, even Intel provides “driver only downloads” ). These are the steps to follow:
0. Make sure Kies is not installed. If it is you don't need this guide
1. Download Kies from Samsung
2. Double click it to start the installation but do not go any further when you see the first dialog box looking like the first screenshot attached. Don't close the dialog box for now!
3. Use the file explorer to search for a file named “*kies*.msi” starting at or below this location: “C:\Documents and Settings\your_name\Local Settings”. I found a file named “Samsung Kies.msi” which is roughly 90 MB in size at some temporary directory. Your file may be named different or it might be located at some other place. I will call the file “Samsung Kies.msi” for the rest of this description.
4. Copy “Samsung Kies.msi” to some safe place, say “c:\kies-installer\Samsung Kies.msi”
5. Now press the cancel button in the dialog of step 2, not the next button.
6. Open a console in “c:\kies-installer” and type this: 'msiexec /a "Samsung Kies.msi" /qb TARGETDIR="c:\kies-installer\extracted"'. Don't worry, this will not really install Kies, it will perform an administrative installation which basically extracts and copies files from the installation package for later installation. You will also see a somewhat strange looking dialog similar to the one in the second attachment. This too is nothing to be worried about. The dialog will close itself.
7. The installer has copied the files to the newly created sub directory "c:\kies-installer\extracted". This directory contains a sub directory named “program files\Samsung\Kies\USB Driver” in which you will finally find a file named “SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe”, the USB driver installation package.
8. Copy this file to a safe place and delete the entire “c:\kies-installer” directory. Again note: these files have not been 'installed' only copied to this location, so it is safe to just delete them.
9. That's it, the file “SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe” is the USB driver installer we were looking for
I have tested the steps above on a Windows XP system for the following Kies (USB driver) versions:
2.2.0.12014 (USB driver version V1.4.103.0)
2.3.2.12054 (USB driver version V1.5.5.0)
2.3.2.12064 (USB driver version V1.5.6.0)
2.3.2.12074 (USB driver version V1.5.6.0, not changed)
2.3.2.12085 (USB driver version V1.5.9.0)
2.5.0.12094 (USB driver version V1.5.15.0)
2.5.0.12104 (USB driver version V1.5.16.0)
2.5.3.13043 (USB driver version V1.5.23.0)
2.6.1 (USB driver version V1.5.29.0)
For Windows 7 and other versions of Kies things might differ a little bit.
Hi there,
very nice Info!
Have tested this on Windows7 Prof. x64
You will find the "Samsung Kies.msi" in: C:\Users\your_name\AppData\Local\Downloaded Installations\... or in C:\Users\TobiAdmin\AppData\Local\Temp\... for me, both are the same files!
Everything else works absolutely the same way!
Thanks for your work
Thanks for the guide, was helpful in getting me started.
FYI, after step 3, you can also open Samsung Kies.msi with something like 7-Zip, extract samsung_usb_driver_for_mobil and then rename it to samsung_usb_driver_for_mobile.exe.
Likewise if you actually install Kies the USB driver .exe is in the Kies program folder .

go in devmgmt.msc and either force update the drivers from there for the appropriate devices (usually the ones with ? marks) or delete the devices, unplug/plug back and let the driver install process proceed, pointing the driver search at the folder where you unpacked the zip file above.

MTKDroid tools does not work for 820ts.
Why do you want to restore? Did you format your phone with SP Flash Tool?

yes i did , with option (format all + Downoad) because my 2nd SIM didn't work after I flashed lollipop ROM ,it shows "Slot2: no SIM detected" when the phone boot or when I insert the SIM .
So I thought it maybe solve it but it seems that it became more complicated .
is there any way I can restore my IMEI first then we may talk about the 2nd SIM ?.

I attached a screen shot for the driver you told me to install (Gadget CDC VCOM) .
and I deleted the driver which i used with SP flash tool (MediaTek USB VCOM ) to avoid any mistake .
note : when I connect the phone to write the IMEI, it instantly starts up and boot in download mode and anew device
shows in device manager named HTC like you see and the attached image .

and its working again .. after I installed all the drivers you gave me .
I'm very thankful .
can you suggest for me the reason why I suddenly cant use the 2nd SIM after I flashed lollipop
for the first time ?? it shows notification when phone start up "Slot 2 : No SIM card detected Please check if the SIM card is ready" is it related to flashing the new ROM OR it's hardware issue ,knowing that when I pull the SIM and reinsert it ,the notification appears again .
Note : I flashed many ROMs including the stock with variety options (format all + download ..)
and not worked .
again ,thank you very much .

First, Just to confirm were you able to write back the IMEI numbers?
And does Slot 2 work on the Kitkat firmware?
-Yes i was able to write back the IMEI numbers by folowing the steps you mentioned and installing all the drivers you mentioned an all previous comments .
-Actually No, slot 2 doesn't work with any ROM . Is there any software-related action i can do before starting hardware check for the slot 2?
-filnally after I did (format all + download) a few days ago ,
An error stars appearing between Wifi networks says"NVRAM warning : Err = 0x10" as a network !! As you see in attached screen shot .
My Apology for annoying but HTC is hard to work with .
I think that is likely a hardware issue. Did it start after you formatted the phone with SP Flash Tool?
