I was running MIUI 1.9.2..hadnt updated in a few weeks.
Randomly today, I stated getting a crazy amount of force closes.. (framework, google voice, browser, messaging, etc.)
Went to go restart the phone and got stuck in bootloops.. Pulled the battery and tried it again, same thing.
Than I tried to boot into CWM recovery...noo good..stuck on splash screen. No idea what the problem is or how to go about fixing it.
Any ideas?
Thanks guys
If you can get into fast boot, but not recovery, try flashing the recovery from fast boot, or running an RUU to get back to stock, then reroot, but that means losing all your data. Try just recovery first.
Edit: I'm a firm believer of it's not bricked till it doesn't power on.
Yeah that sounds like a good idea. How exactly should I go about flashing recovery?..Via adb or can I put it in the root of the sd and flash it in fastboot
SD card must be fat 32. Put the recovery zip in the root of your sd card. Should be a file named PB31IMG.zip dougpiston.com (I think) is the site that has most of them, and you flash it from fast boot.
Oh yeah I remember him, hes over on the incredibleforum. Thank man, appreciate it
Got recovery working, tried re-flashing the ROM without a full wipe. Still stuck with bootloops. Is my only option to do a full wipe and lose everything?
Try wiping cache, dalvik, and boot, reflash ROM, then fix permissions. That doesn't work, do the above steps again, but right after, flash another kernel (I use incredikernel). If that still doesn't work, you might have to do a full wipe.
Yeah, I tried all that, no luck. Thanks anyway man. I don't even know why this happened in the first place. Very random.
Try reformatting you SD card. Save everything to your PC first of course, then copy everything back on and then reflash your Rom. This has worked for some.
I'm in need of help guys and girls.
The other night I decided to "increase my battery life" by "disabling" a few (probably system) apps, through the "Apps Manager / All Apps" tab in Settings.
Everything was ok for another 10mins, went to bed.
Woke up to the "Samsung" logo stuck on the screen.
I tried rebooting and rebooting after removing the battery (15-20 times),
this gave me the same result; self rebooting non-stop after freezing on the "Samsung" screen.
I cleared the Dalvik Cache.
This got me past the "Samsung" screen and went to "Updating Apps".
It initially completed the 192/192 (Number of apps on my phone),
but then rebooted, and continued to reboot every time it got to the "Android is updating apps" screen.
Will 'flashing' a (most likely stock, but suggestions are very much welcome) Kernel fix this problem?
I was stupid in not backing anything up on Titanium Back Up, and not setting up a regular backing up schedule, (since everything was running smoothly for 1 year)
I really have no back up of the data on the phone.
Please.
Please, some one out there, help me just get back into my phone with out losing all my data, and I promise I won't play around with system files any more.
Extra info.
I remember rooting the phone the day I got it, but can't remember what I did exactly. Probably a pre-rooted ROM.
It was a fire and forget thing, and I haven't played with Android software much since then. So now processes need to be explained to me like I'm 5. :good:
>TLDR; Think I disabled system apps. Can't get past "Samsung" / "Android is updating apps" screen. Constant self rebooting at these screens. No back up of any phone data. Will 'flashing' (stock?) Kernel fix this? (and not delete all my data) Please help, ****ting bricks here.
Reflashing the Stock ROM should fix this, yes.
Clear the cache again once you've flashed it.
Mate,
For what you are saying, you have a recovery (Phil'z, Clockwork or TWRP). If so, try and Format data and cache. Doing that wont erase your internal memory, dont worry. I guess it should be enough to get your phone working again.
After that, BACK UP!

I'm at a recovery(?) screen. "CWM-based Recovery v6.0.1.4"
You mean to "wipe data/factory reset" AND "wipe cache partition" ?
Will I lose contacts, sms messages, S notes, emails, installed apps, photos, videos, the lot?
I'm still in semi panic mode and am afraid to do anything that might delete any of the above. :silly:
Through this "CWM-based Recovery v6.0.1.4", I have made a ".dup" back up to my external SD.
Is this enough before I do anything else?
I have other users saying I should, "Then flash a stock rooted rom and restore your data backup."
If so, should I flash JUST the stock ROM (which I don't even know where to get),
or should I flash the newer 4.3 Jelly Bean ROM since I'll be "flashing a ROM" anyways?
a run down of my time line
got it as a X-mass prez for my self
3 days before Xmiss
today while playing ePSXe it rebooted out of the blue (been plaing tekken without problems from day one with my moga pro power)

jumped in to TWRP full wipe and flash seamed fine but boot loops after updating apps
system crashed

Try this, if you have an external SDcard remove it and see if that solves the problem.
If the phone detects some issues with external sdcard, sometimes it can lead to bootlooping.
Once the external sdcard is removed, do another odin flash AFTER doing a full wipe
in TWRP including factory reset before Odin flashing the official stock firmware.
After flashing the official odin flash firmware, don't root the phone yet.
If it works properly after doing the above, turn off wifi and data and just use the phone
normally for a couple hours, rebooting it once in a while just to see see if it still bootloops.
Turn off the auto-updating in google playstore and update one app at a time,
and DON'T restore any apps by using titanium or any other backup app to
make sure that none of your backed up apps are the culprit.
Good luck!

You mean overheating causing hairline cracks in lead free solder or something else? I'm sure your phone is not scratching discs.
If overheating becomes a problem, then I would have to come up with some fix.
Thanks for taking the time to read and hopefully help me out.
First off I was rooted stock and updated to NF9 and have TWRP installed. This morning I went to flash my first rom on this device, effortless ROM. It did jot flash, it said that the zip couldn't be opened. So I downloaded dompop on my PC and transfered to my SD card. Dompop installed fine, but after waiting 30+ minutes to boot up I pulled the battery and reflashed. Same result. So now I am trying to restore my back up I made last night and it seems to be stuck at restoring modem (64%). Its been stuck here for 30 minutes. Any help would be appreciated.
Going on 45 minutes now.....anyone think its safe to pull the battery and try to restore my back up again? How long should a restore normally take with this phone?
Also I don't have access to PC for a few hours.
So I read flashed each partition individually and it seemed to work. No after is starts up a bunch of black boxes appear one after another stating that "unfortunately the process (insert process name) has stopped. And it appears to be every app I have on the phone. I wiped cache and delvik cache. Going to try wiping data next.
After restoring my back up one partition at a time I had to wipe data and cache for it to work properly. Any ideas on why I wasn't able to install a custom ROM?
So, after a failed update to Resurection...actually the upgrade worked...but upon first boot, asking to restore from a backup, after connecting to WiFi, the phone then hits the copy apps/data screen, then gives the Data Transfer Tool has stopped error. All you can do is skip.
I know it has something to do with the flash to Resurrection, never had this with 10 other Rom upgrades, return to stock with Deuce etc.
Now, anytime I flash a new Rom, same thing happens. Can't restore the apps, keep getting this message. Saw a few others over on Resurrection thread having the same issue.
Any ideas on a work around to resolve? Tried to use Deuce, it works to restore the OTA and flash both slots it appears, upon reboot. It does the same thing. No idea where this is stored or happening. Really hate having to try and restore everything manually, plus I would like the phone to work properly obviously!! Also formatted userdata in Deuce on the full OTA stock flash. Same thing.
Even if you bypass it on the first start and reboot. Then, do the Finish Setup option, again, it force closes the app and doesn't work.
Another problems seems, after using Deuce to flash, it keeps ending up on Slot B as the default. I have to manually set the A active, although Duece does this, or I get a corrup system message and it won't boot.
