[Q] Galaxy Note 4 LAG - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Okay so im not sure if its just my phone but recently ive been experiencing so much LAG. I hate it. Its really starting to piss me off. No 3rd party apps to make my phone lag or anything. The last time i remember experiencing lag wqs with the S4.

So you've wiped the phone and ran it without installing any apps and still experience lag?

What's your CPU temperature showing? What are your display and bightness settings? Do you have the power-saving feature on or off? Are you using any custom ROM's?

Its more with my keyboard and sometimes it takes forever for the soft touch button to bring up all my background apps. Most the time my keyboard cant keep up with the speed i type. Havent wiped the phone yet. I usually keep my brightness at 50% or lower. Havent used any roms. Still thought you couldnt root the AT&T version yet

Anyone else tried using Google Earth?

I loaded it up and used it for about 3 mins or so (gpu force is on). I could feel the phone starting to get hot and about that time my screen went black (which has done this before) so I pulled the battery out which usually fixed previous issues. Well this time everything would boot up and once the launcher loaded my GPS icon appeared in the status bar and the device would crash and reboot again. After numerous battery pulls and booting into safe mode and everything else I could think of the problem never corrected, doing the same thing everytime. Eventually had to restore with factory image.
Just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this? Also, it doesn't help that in new to android and was completely uneducated on a fix besides what I did and was a little turned off to the OS at that point.
On the other hand I love my Galaxy Nexus lol

i play around with it here & there but have never had that happen. also, i have gps/location turned off(always that way) so not sure if that has anything to do with it.
I'm playing around with it aswell and up to 30-40 min straight without it ever even getting tempered.. with gps location turned on and over wifi..

no issues here with earth over wifi. gps off. didn't get too hot either. also loaded faster and with less lag than my transformer.
I've also used it for more than 15 minutes without problems. It does heat up, but nowhere near the ungodly temperatures it reaches while playing games.
gps seems to heat up more when charging it seems. with any phone. but i wouldn't sweat it too much unless your phone is rebooting or melting.

I had a few freezes (mostly in google maps) but they were resolved with a battery pull. Your expereince could have been just very bad luck.
Try this App to check your phones hardware: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.into.stability&feature=order_history
I had no problem running it for 20 min, no errors occurred. Phone gets really warm to the right of the camera when the App is active, which is to be expected.
Both mine loaded fine.

Is it normal for a phone to slow down after awhile?

I've experienced this issue twice now wherein my phone would get extremely slow and laggy to the point that it's unbearable to use anymore and the only solution was a reboot. Launcher keeps on restarting, messaging app takes 5 seconds to open, camera is lagging etc and this is after a week of uptime at least.
Why does this happen in the first place and am I the only one experiencing this? I've been running only maguro milestone 5 and franco for the past month, no other roms whatsoever. Once I power down and reboot everything becomes nice and fast again.
Never happened to me on stock.
I'd say it's "normal" for a phone to slow down over time as you add apps and things, but it should never slow down to a crawl and start crashing until you reboot.

normal for it to slow down a bit but not like how you described it. i'm running stock though.
It's not normal. Install some monitoring tool like "OS Monitor" and run it when the problem happens to find out the culprit.
Oh and installing multiple apps will not slow down the phone. This is not Windows 95.

lol at the windows 95 comment
although the # of apps you have alone shouldnt slow your phone down, if you have a ton of apps running in the background eating up ram it may slow down if the available free ram you have is really really low
when your phone is laggy check the ram first
Thanks guys I'll try OS monitor to see what's running. It just happened again right now and this is getting annoying, even typing is laggy but after a reboot everything is normal again.
Kill background apps.

So far I have not had that issue. Probably like everyone else said. There is some run away app that's eating up your memory

Its not normal, but aokp does have a bug. Check your system process in system panel, it grows larger over time if you use lock screen options etc.

Gpu rendering, reccomended?

Now that ics has been out for a while, is it a good idea to have this on?
It does make the phone faster and only affects two of my apps but i still dont know how does it affect battery or RAM(i read somewhere it affects ram)
Do you guys use it?

It's useful for scrolling in 2d apps. Although on xda makes the pictures not come up. I only use every once in a while.

I've chosen to not use it. It was useful in the early days when not a lot of apps worked well on ICS, but nowadays it breaks more than it fixes in my experiences.
I don't use it. I find it makes many apps laggy. Though it does boost a quadrant score.
In theory, it would be better to the let the GPU render stuff as it takes the strain off the CPU. Too bad it breaks many apps, though.
nope dont use it. does more problems than good
I use it, never encountered any of this, EXCEPT for a GUI glitch in Power amp. Besides that, every works perfectly.
On side note, back when the Samsung Vibrant first got ICS (somewhere around December), I found that many apps just crashed when using it, such as trying to pick out a wallpaper in GO SMS. Nowadays, nothing besides that Power amp glitch I've noticed. And battery life is somewhat better too.

The United Airlines app used to have problems when this was on -- would show up as an incredibly tiny rectangle on the screen, as if scaling was totally thrown off. I was flying a lot then, so I unchecked the option. The United app has been updated a few times in the past few months, and I tried checking force GPU, and the latest version of the United app works again... I've got 104 apps installed, and the only other one I've seen that complains is Flipboard -- got a message once, yesterday, that it's not designed to work with forced GPU and that I should turn it off. I ignored the message, though, and Flipboard seems fine -- as does everything else I'm using.
I'll leave it turned on until / unless I run into incompatibilities with apps that I find important...

Help me diagnose the lag problem

Ever since I updated my phone to stock 4.0.4, it's not been the same buttery smooth Epic Touch that it used to be on Gingerbread. Sometimes the lags gets so bad that the phone would restart itself. I have done a reformat and things have been going smooth for about 2 months and it has started lagging again now. Right now I am running minimum 3rd party apps, and only limited to reputable ones such as Facebook and whatnot. The CPU Spy shows the phone is in deep sleep most of the time. Android OS still takes up about 90% of battery usage. I made sure nothing is hogging up the ram in task manager and clear memory 2-3 times a day. Yet, it still lags like crazy especially while typing or turning the screen off.
Can anyone chime in on what else could be causing this?

since you mention facebook what's your sync situation like? just a suggestion as I remember similar threads where constant syncing was causing issues... if android os is using that much battery something is amiss... its just a matter of figuring out what...

FB's refresh interval is set to 1 hour. Is that what you are referring to?

Welcome to ics. I get the same thing and have tried everything. Good news is they are pumping out new builds pretty quick to hopefully they are working out all the kinks.

Anyone else having issues with Tab Pro 10.1 lag when waking from sleep?

I've noticed a decent amount of lag when unlocking (initial screen waking/coming on) on my new Tab Pro 10.1 (1-3 seconds when my ipad/n7 are essentially lag free). It only happens when the screen has been off more than ~2-3 minutes. I've disabled/Uninstalled much of the bloat, specifically svoice which I know caused some issues in older Samsung devices. Has anyone else noticed any lag when waking their tab pro? My tab is also rooted, but I noticed the issue before rooting.

Yeah, I was told it was the Exynos processors going into some kind of deep sleep state. Apparently it's not the first device to do this. Mine does it as well. Horrible when listening to music over bluetooth on the Hi-Fi, lags the music until the screen comes on. Horrible, horrible.. Horrible device. Why you Exynos. :'/
