[Q] aftv's netflix app - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I uninstalled the preloaded netflix app to delete the account I was using. I thought I would just re-download it to put in a different account. When I try downloading it from amazon it says failed. My aftv is rooted & updates are blocked. Could this be why I can't download it? I side loaded the Google play version, but play/pause button on the remote doesn't work. Neither do the rewind & fast forward buttons. Is there a way I can side load the original netflix app?

Never mind. Restarted the box and now it works ?

[Q] Anyone else's WWE Network app unable to play video?

I installed the WWE Network app from the Amazon store and entered my login info. The menus work fine but when i select something to watch (anything) a quick gray box pops up that says something like "Cannot Play Video" for a second and then the app crashes back to the fire tv launcher. The login info is all good since it works on my PS3 and computer.
I uninstalled the app and re-installed it but still have the same problem. I was just wondering if anyone else has or doesnt have this problem. Thanks

[Q] Watch Google Play Movies on Fire TV Stick

We have a number of movies on Google Play Movies that we'd like to watch on our Fire TV Stick. We've tried the YouTube app, but whenever we try to watch videos in the Purchased tab, they just buffer indefinitely. Other content plays just fine, and using the Chromecast works for playing purchased videos, but I would rather use the Fire TV. Has anyone else had this issue? And did you figure out a solution?
Thanks!
- Dave
Hi there, did you ever find a solution to this? I would be interested to know this too. (In my case the Google Play Movies do not buffer, they just through an error when I try to watch them using the YouTube app on the Fire TV).
Nope, no solution for this, although I haven't tried recently. Although now that Amazon is part of Disney Anywhere (our 4-year-old dictates most of our movie watching these days), it's less of an issue than it was before.
Okay, too bad. I am not sure Amazon Germany is part of Disney Anywhere. Annoying as I am in the same boat as you, our 3 year old dictates our movie watching and so I have quite a few Disney movies on Google Play...
In case you are interested it works. Without rooting. I followed most of what was mentioned here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-3SWSD232U
I did not install 1Mobile though as I have no use for that, neither did I install the remote app mentioned in the video. I only went through the initial instructions about installing play services, account manager, play store. Then I updated the play store as mentioned. And finally I installed YouTube and Google Play Movies.
The first time I launched Play Movies it asked me to log in. And then I was able to access my library of purchased movies and watch them. It even started them from where I last left off on other devices.

Where did you get the APK for play movies? I am trying to install this on my Fire TV Stick, but the only version that installs without error is the version for Android TV, which won't even launch on the Fire Stick (my source is apkmirror.com).
Took me awhile, but got this working. Followed that YouTube video exactly, including getting the Wukong Remote app to control the mouse. You can either load Google Play Movies via the 1Mobile app on the video, or else I'm guessing you can also get it on your phone and use an app like AGKFire, or use ADBFire?
Make sure you follow the instructions in the order he installs the different APK's. Good luck.
Success, with some modifications. First, I was unable to click on some of the links to install, perhaps because the trackpad is an essential step. I have no trackpad. Instead, I downloaded those apps to my cell phone and used ES File Explorer to Send the files to the stick. I was still unable to navigate the 1Market app and even had to use the send method to get Google Play Movies, which was my whole point in doing all of this.
With Google Play Movies is installed, it would only play a single movie on my account from where I left off; I was initially unable to navigate the app from the Fire Stick remote to browse my library. I am now able to control the app using a helper app, Remote Mouse for Fire TV, I found out about here: http://www.aftvnews.com/remote-mouse-app-released-for-fire-tv-fire-tv-stick/ and which can be purchased from the Amazon app store, one time, for both the stick and the phone that I am using to remote-control the stick. Initially I thought even this wasn't working, but switching this Remote Mouse app from remote mode to mouse mode did the trick.
In hindsight, now that I know about the remote mouse app (which I had to pay a couple bucks for) it might have worked in place of the trackpad and I probably could have avoided the send file workaround.

with the latest ROM for the fire tv, its not possible to install the get the google play movies to work.
I had issues with following that YouTube video. In order to download the various Google apps (Services etc al) I clicked on the link and then, in the more menu of ES File Manager clicked on Open in Browser which then kicked off the download. This suggests that the steps are version specific with the file manager behaving differently plus I had an issue with getting YouTube installed. YouTube has grown so much that you have to identify an apk so I downloaded the version shown in the video. In fact I gave up on ES File Manager and side loaded apps using Apps2Fire. This also removes the need to install 1Mobile.
Wukong did not work for me as it did not recognise mouse clicks and has been replaced with another app. So I grabbed hold of Remote Mouse for Fire TV which works like a charm.
I downloaded and installed all the programs and opened the Google play app. It seems to do nothing though, what did I do wrong?
Easiest work around is to play it on your phone and mirror the screen to your firestick. Works perfectly for me.

what's the best way to mirror from Android to the stick?
It seems watching Google Play Movies on an Amazon Fire TV is much simpler now. Just use the official Silk Browser app from the Amazon app store, and sign in at play.google.com.
When you go to your library, you will be taken to YouTube to play your videos. Just make sure you are signed in there too.

FXNOW app on Fire TV

I downloaded the new official Fxnow App for the Fire TV, logged in and tried to play something. Everything and I mean everything that I try to play brings up a 'can't play' error. Everything else works fine on the Fire TV ( netflix, Hbogo, etc. ) and the sideloaded FXnow apk app plays everything fine using a usb keyboard, so the only thing I can think of for why the official Fxnow app isn't playing is it's out, but not supported yet. The install app wasn't easy to find. It was buried in the search area, rather than coming up as an app under app categories, and therefore my conclusion is it won't be officially active until the 2nd Gen Fire Tv is released on Oct 5th. Anyone installed the Fxnow app, registered it with their cable / sat company and found out that nothing is playable? Wanted to find out if it was a problem on my end. Can someone please confirm this?
Thanks.
Just wanted to give an update to my problem in case someone had this same issue in the future. Turns out the problem is DNS proxy related. I'm using unotelly running a geo-proxy service allowing me to watch content from the U.S and U.K using sideloaded apk files along with using kodi for U.K content. When I remove the DNS from my Amazon Fire TV configuration, the FXNOW official app works fine. The official Fxnow app is being blocked somewhere in the proxy chain. So, currently I'm inquiring if anything can be done with help from my proxy provider. If not, I'll just go back to sideloading the apk version of the app and watch FXnow that way. So, basically nothing wrong with the app. Problem is due to my setup.

Fire tv stick upgraded to 5.0.5 overnight, killed sideloaded apps

I've been running a sideloaded app for monitoring security cameras. Overnight 5.0.5 was loaded automatically. Now, the sideloaded app used for viewing will launch, but stops running within a few seconds.
Anyone know what I have to do to fix this?
Its likely an Incompatibility. Did you try to delete the apps cache and/or data?
Technically it didn't kill your app. It broke it. I have seen is upgrades break apps until the app data is cleared. And sometimes you have to wait for an app update. You can always side load another. Or use aptoide/a web browser, to get another
Nope...this new version 5.0.5 broke the sideloading into the TV stick. I tried to sideload the app again, and it no longer works. I also tried deleting the cache.
This app is on the Google Play store. This Fire TV stick just became useless to me, unless this is a bug, and not a design change so Amazon can give the middle finger to Google.
5.0.5 broke it...please tell me it did not.

Did you read Skwerl23's answer?
Sideloading is just a way to install an app via ADB. It either works or it does not work.
Like he said, it's more likely the App doesn't support Android 5.
You won't get a better answer if you don't provide some information:
Which app?
Can you still sideload the app? If not which error message do you receive?
Did you delete the apps data?
Are you using other apps?
OK....found the auto update to 5.0.5, for some reason altered the IP number of the fire stick. I fixed that in the Apps2Fire, then I successfully updated at new version of the app.
Next I went into it, it opened, then ended as before.
I then cleared cache again, and also cleared data which kill the config in the app.
I opened the app, it stayed up, but wasn't functional since the config data in the app was gone. Also, the screen display was skewed with a stretch view, wasn't as it was before.
I managed to reconfig the app, then started live view of the four cameras I have and the app ended.
The app is Alibi Witness provided by Supercircuits for monitor of their cameras.
5.0.5 definitely changed something that this app does not like.
ON EDIT: I am not using any other apps...dedicated to viewing security cameras.

okay...
i don't know what's the reason it stopped working with the 5.0.5 update.
There are a huge amount of changes in Android and FireOS.
I would try the following things:
- there is a tablet version of the app ("ALIBI Witness HD: Tablet")
- factory reset of the fire TV stick
- writing a mail to the developer of the app
good luck!
Do you have firestarter app installed??? It seems to interfere with adb...I use agk fire app to sideload and even though app worked fine...it didn't transfer files nor install apks as it did before the 5.0.5 update. Once I uninstalled firestarter and restarted the fire tv stick the agk fire app worked just fine. It seems you have two issues...app from google play store not working after the update and sideloading via adb is not working. Might be related to firestarter app...

I don't....I got the Apps2Fire to sideload. BUT I'm wondering now if perhaps it is damaged somehow. You are correct there is 2 problems. I fear the Web Components piece which Chrome will not support makes this Alibi Witness software unique, and have a gut feeling it's involved somehow.
I can push these apps from windows since I can get the app direct from Supercircuits, and I might do that a bit later perhaps tomorrow.
I found the same after the ota, unable to sideload & lots of apps no longer working. I ended up factory resetting and just starting over. Real pain but all now works fine, and rooted easily.

SlingPlayer for Fire TV no longer working

It is being talked about on the SlingPlayer Forums and being said that Amazon pulled the app. Has anyone else learned anything more about this?

I have the same thing. The app will not load. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app and still NG. Checking with Sling next.
Just checked. Still Working on mine. Streaming locally from my slingbox, rather than remotely, but the app still works. Don't know if it has anything to do with me blocking amazon updates to the box, but like I said, the app still functions.
.....nevermind. Worked the first time, then when I tried it again, the app won't start.
Had to sideload the slingplayer phone version using a bluetooth mini keyboard / touchpad to get slingplayer functionality back. The slingplayer for tablet and slingplayer for tablet free version; both of them don't work either, only the phone version. Pretty pathetic for Amazon and Sling to give up support on the slingplayer app so easily.
They say they are working on it.
Keep up with their Twitter feed. Patch coming soon. Amazon OS updates broke their app.
Version 3.0.9 is available. You may need to uninstall 3.0.8 from the Manage Installed Applications screen under settings.

Thanks for the heads up. Downloaded and now it looks like the problem has been fixed.
My FTV2 rooted still can't find the SlingPlayer app. My SlingPlayer 1 rooted will load the app then close immediately.
Is it still fixed for you guys?
Both my non rooted FTV1's had the new slingplayer app available to download immediately. Took a week or so before it showed up in the Amazon store for my Fire TV stick. Tested everything last night and everything works fine on both boxes and stick, but like I mentioned, I'm not rooted.
