Either turn on upnp sharing from xbmc on your mac or create a network share folder to share your movies and add that as a video source from xbmc on your fire
I've shared the folder and that doesn't show up, so I'll give the other way ago cheers
I tried upnp and it still won't see my mac? Would this be because one is kodi and one is gotham?
I don't assume so. Is it a firewall thing?

I found out, of the amazing power of XBMC and I found out it's been ported to multiple platforms such as Android, OUYA and recently the Fire TV. I want a box that I can use XBMC on my TV to use apps for streaming like (identities of apps have been changed) SmashDown, FireFilms,MovieY2K, SportsDemon (LIVE Streaming) and that one that has XBMC in the name that you can use for torrents and more.
My question is...if I want to use this box for internet streaming and such..which would be the best?
what's your thoughts about XBMC on OUYA? I only want an OUYA for XBMC and sideloading apk's. Also, OUYA doesn't mind rooting....right..? Which begs the question of the Fire TV. IF I bought a Fire TV would it come with the unrootable update? (I don't want a Fire TV if I can't root it)
Which one would be more powerful in streaming? or are they equally matched? any lag or incompatibilities?
any feedback would be appreciated
bump? I'm going to do this just once....the Fire TV community has been active in giving me advice but nothing from OUYA?... = /

Ouyaforum.com is much more active than here. Personally I use sideloaded spmc and have no problems streaming from the internet, network drives, or either computer. Works great for me. There's a one click app for rooting. Usually it has to be clicked twice but works great as well as being able to add the play store very easily. Also amazon appstore.
With the last update OUYA added the ability to connect to your OUYA with a computer wirelessly and install apks with drag and drop. Personally I use es file explorer with a browsable Google drive to transfer files from any device to my OUYA.

Ouya works good with XBMC. You might want to also look at the mad catz M.O.J.O

From what info that's online its standard android OS and that runs XBMC no problem. I was running XBMC on an android stick (imoto) and it ran well.
I'm using an ouya happily enough. Runs XBMC admirably plays 10 bit mkv, which is something of a gold standard to me. If you get the fire, please report if it will as well.
Plus I see to Fire is amazon prime. If your a prime user that may sway you, I'd expect it to show up on stock android shortly anyway.
Spec wise either will work well Fire looks slightly better. If i were upgrading, I'd want esata, more usb and ideally gigabit lan, Which neither devise supplies.
I really feel both devices are more limited by i/o then anything else.
Cubox looks good but I've no personal experience.
Got the fire Tv, and rooted it and Kodi'd it a while ago... Good decision I made

Hi ive just installed xbmc for amazon fire tv. Just wondered if there is away to add apk files inside xbmc. Rather than on sidebar? Also tried adding live tv as it worked well on pc. No success on amazon fire tv yet. Many thanks
I've got IPTV based LIVE TV working on XBMC without a problem, so I'm betting it works.
May i ask how you did it please. Because the way i did it via px wouldnt work on amazon fire tv.
Has anyone tried to use the app from this Popcorn Time site: popcorntime(dot)sh
I currently have a Nexus Player and it works great, but thinking about moving over to Fire TV. I don't have one right now to test it, so wanted to check here.
The Android TV app functions perfectly with the launcher and remote.
I just installed it and it works perfect.
Does this work with the Fire Stick? I got it work perfectly on my 4K FTV, but it crashes on the Stick whenever I try to play a movie.
Yep, works good here too - using on a fire stick.

Hi,
What version and platform you installed? Also works whit series? The versions i tried, tv series didnt work.
Hi. Quick question. I'm thinking on buying a fire tv to use it with Popcorn Time (from the .to website). Have read kodi has troubles writing to sd card (or external storage in general) because it does not ask for permission to do so. So my question is, has someone had troubles when downloading movies on Popcorn time routing them to the sd card directly from the app?
helpfull
My understanding was that this app uses Torrents and so your IP will be exposed on whatever server from which the video is streamed.

Youre correct. If you're going to use it your ip is exposed. Never used one personally on fire tv but people have got vpn working. I highly advise going that route with torrent software.
Want to try this one on my Shield TV. The Android TV version doesn't have a live stream. I have a Fire Stick but I can't find it in the list of apks. Any ideas?

You can still find the latest AFTV version here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71504583&postcount=9
if you want live stream you have to delete the aftv app and data....sideloade this standard android version (first time run you have to use a mouse/remote to set up your provider but then you can use firetv remote to browse livetv stream - cnn/hln/cnn intern. and plays fine) here enjoy
