Hey folks,
I hope I'm posting this in the right area, but here goes: I got myself an LG G3 back in November, and just recently saw someone with a 5.0 update on their phone. I also learned that we have the update here in Canada, but our amazing phone carriers are holding out on us. So, I would like to ask for help in rooting and updating my phone to the new Rom as I know next to nothing about the process, though I did follow a guide here a few years back The phone was originally a Roger's phone and I unlocked it to work with Virgin. Thanks all.
Any takers?

For installing a new rom (via kdz) you do not need to root your phone.

Really? That's awesome! But I would like to root it and play around with some extra functions so I could learn. What's kdz?
EDIT: I wanna note that I've heard a bit about "stumping" but I know nothing of what it is, so if anyone could shed some light for me, I'd appreciate it.
Hey guys.

LOL. And can someone help this person here too?

Hundreds of posts regarding rooting. 5.0
Can't be done. You must revert to kit Kat via kdz or tot. Root. Then install custom recovery and install a "bumped" lollipop rom
I'm already on kitkat atm. Tbh I'm not so hot into the root function, I just want to update the rom if it improves battery life, and utilizes the quad HD better.

Do I need to lock the bootloader or anything like the HTC or run software on the computer to take me back to stock? That's how HTC worked just wondering

A simple search would have done the trick. Please search before posting and always remember, Google is your friend. [emoji2]

Maybe if the search on XDA was better I'd use It... A lot of Google stuff was outdated what I found.. Thanks anyway

I just received my LG G3 today and updated to lollipop, not realising it was basically unrootable. Please tell me there is an option to root or atleast there will be soon? I cannot live without my Viper4Android app!
I can't believe I was so dumb to just install the update without considering the potential issues with rooting.
I updated my Nexus 7 to lollipop and quickly went back to KitKat using the Root Toolkit, so I didn't realise that we were having an issue with rooting lollipop devices. Or I wouldn't have updated at all.
I'm due another LG G3 tomorrow as the original company were out of stock, so I ended up going into the store and picking one up today, and ofcourse the original company just at that moment emailed me to confirm delivery for the following day.... anyway how far away are we from getting a solution... i will need to return one G3 so would it be worth returning the device i updated and keeping the G3 which will likely come shipped with Kitkat? Or will a solution likely be here soon?
Hope this makes sense, I've been up all night trying to root this *******.
Thanks!
Actually u can just install a custom lollipop rom which is already rooted or even install a stock rooted one too , it's up to u which one whould u like to return , for the updated one u can downgrade to kitkat using tot file and then root and get a custom recovery ... And install whatever u want

If you just want to root your phone, try towelroot.apk. You must be really lazy because a Google search on rooting lg-e980 will tell you about towel root app.

By any chance you have link to a thread which points to installing a custom recovery on my E988 (running official Kit Kat) ? SW version is E98820c-ESA-XX
Hey everyone! I had a question. First off, I came from an HTC One M8 and there was a developer that put this together for that phone. Is there any developer who has (or would be able to put together) a ROM cleaner for completely stock/rooted ROMs? The reason why I ask is because now that 20E is out, maybe a ROM cleaner for someone who doesn't want to flash a custom ROM would be an option. I've been flashing ROMS for about 10 years now and have tried developing, but failed miserably. So, I don't know how to do this.
Just throwing it out there.
Thanks people!!!

I was just looking to have the gapps and LG stuff removed, but didn't know which apps could be frozen/uninstalled in Titanium Backup. I don't use any of the LG apps and the only gapps I use are Gmail and Google Drive. I just wanted it to be a little cleaner. I actually found an LG ROM Debloater in another thread. I'll go find it and post it here.

Here it is. It's a ROM Debloater. I explained and asked wrong. Sorry for the confusion.

Hello everybody,
I just got a lg e980 from my dad, it's from at&t and it comes stock with all their apps and rom.
I do not need the at&t functionality because I'm on a whole other continent but it's a decent phone and I'd like to use it.
Can i just follow one of the rooting guides, root, custom recovery and rom? Or am I missing something here that will render the phone useless?
I'd appreciate help on it.
Thanks
Niamul

Potentially yes. Be aware that the guided to follow differs from which version of stock rom you start from. In any case download the kdz files and the flashing tool in case you need to go back to stock.

Thanks heaps for your advice, I'll get the stock files and flasher first before I proceed
