Why is camera so slow?? - T-Mobile LG G3

I realize this is probably a dumb question, but i dont know the answer so ill ask
I had a question pertaining to the LG G3 camera. I know that the apk or software for the LG G3 stock camera isnt publicly available so the only way to keep it is with a stock based ROM....
The question i have is why are the cameras that are incorperated in ROMS alot slower than the stock camera? Just the other day i watched a video (i think) on XDA that showed how slow the nexus 6 camera was stock compared to when you flashed CM12. After flashing CM12 for that device the camera was easily twice as fast..
Is there any way to speed up the shutter on different ROMS for LG G3?

I noticed a lot of lag taking a picture on the G3. Then to realize HDR was on. It added like 2 seconds to the shutter. Now on auto with flash off it is super quick.

(Q) Good camera app

Is there a fast enough camera app that produse decent quality photos to be used as the default in CM7? I like d default in sence rom. Is there a similar app to be used in cm7?
Vignate, HLR Cam and all others i tried are slow. The faster cam apps produce poor quality photos.

I have tried camera360 and vignette, as they were the best camera apps they told me. Both take about 10 seconds to process a photo though which annoyed me, and imo the quality was not even better than the stock cyanogenmod app.
So I keep using the stock one, which can also make videos (as many camera apps can't). Try using a different theme that changes the layout of the stock app a little. It still looks like ****, but at least a bit better
Hi,
how about this?
I just install it to CM 7.1 RC and its lots better than stock camera. Better setting.
If interest, download it to link what is in page 3, then you get english version, otherwice it is china...

on page 3 it is posted "With default parameters aosp stock camera beats miui in terms of sharpness and focusing."
Also I read about problems uninstalling it, so I haven't tried it myself...
I'm using MIUI Camera, pretty solid and good.
I've been on the camera hunting too. The ONLY app which satisfied me (and reminded me of the features my previous phone -n95- had) was Camera Advance But on the CM7Nightlies at least, the app produces a black screen when taking photos, rendering the camera useless untill you reboot the device. The dev knows about it, but it has been months since the last update.
But it's worth the try if you ask me. Photo quality is awesome.

[Q] camera is slow

Hello. When i take a photo the camera button remains inactive for about 3 seconds and this is in middle and low light conditions ( the photo goes in the internal storage) . I've noticed this yesterday but before no problems so is this only for me or I'm just going crazy!?!
Are you on stock or?

It looks like this. when the picture is made
Mine too is like this... Very frustrating as the camera speed is supposed to be better than most with laser.. I sent a video toblg support showing this and they said it is normal? Do you guys after. Outside it works great.. Indoors, in low ish light it is so so so slow!!
It would be nice if they fix it in lollipop ,but the probably won't.Even my old xperia arc s was faster when shooting pictures and when i unlock the lg it takes the homescreen about 1,5 seconds to boot and this was also not the case with the arc s so straaange
Dont know mate, but my G3 is fast in shooting in all conditions.
I have this problem. Using Cloudy 1.2 with stock kernel. After taking the picture, app frozes for 4-6 secs while it stores the picture (no external SD). It is very annoying. I also tried ren 1.8.5 kernel, but no improvement.
I've just bought a g3 off amazon and have noticed the slow camera too. in low light the camera can take 3 or 4 seconds to get focus and take the picture, which is much much slower than my old Sony Z2 and my wife's moto x.
I'm using rooted l.p. stock by skin1980 20a
Although I'm liking the phone in most respects, For me the camera lag is a deal breaker, if I can't take a quick picture of the kids the phone is no good to me and will be on its way back to amazon
Is it just my phone, could it be the Rom and if so is their a better Rom on terms of camera speed?

AOSP Camera alternatives

I've tried the Lenovo Camera with the Stock ROM, and it seemed OK.
And the picture quality is close to stock. But well.. I only tested with the stock ROM.
Sadly, there are not many video modes like the stock G3 camera.. but it's better than a blurry picture

[Q] LG G4 Stock Camera app replacements

Hi all.
So i have to firstly say G4 is the best device to date i have used. Camera is great.
I have been using a S6 for a few months prior to the G4. The Camera App on the S6 was good. The plus side of the Software modes for quick set up for stunning shots.
Does anyone know of any Apps that would have the same set of modes or a better app full stop ?
Suppose you are looking for an app that allows saving of presets. Something that should have been available in the stock camera.
There are three 3rd parties that make use of the camera 2 api.
camera fv5, manual camera by vipek and freedcam. The fv5 app wont slow shutter beyond a second.
Whether they 'better' than stock and in which way remains to be answered.
Camera F-V5 lags some features and is limited in its use for the power of the G4.
Manual Camera doesn't work with the G4, already mailed the author of the app about it. App crashes without any warning back to drawer.
freedcam is okay, but is limited in its use and doesn't use every feature or better the full feature set of the G4.
Actually the stock camera app is the best app for all features of the G4 camera, if you need scenes and modes, try another app like CameraMX (No raw.), Camera360 or one of the other million camera apps out there. For full raw power with modes, well, we have to wait. The modes of the S6 won't work until someone will port over the S6 camera app to the G4, but don't expect too much, since Samsung broke/closed the raw stream in their software, so we won't see all features of a ported app that the G4 is capable off.

LG G4, cm/aosp and camera quality like vs stock?

Looking at moving from a G3 to a G4 and wondered, for those that are running a cm or aosp based ROM, what's the quality of the pictures like vs those taken with a stock ROM?
Thanks
My opinion
Well i used diffrent custom ROMs (CM, Blisspop,) and stock ROM, and by my experience i think stock rom produces better pictures, i dont know why or how or if stock really produces better pictures, but thats just my opinion. would like to hear experiences from more veteran CM based rom users.
Normally cm/aosp camera are not as great as stock.
My last phone(LG Optimus G) had the same issue but when Devs started to implement the stock drivers from camera into cm/aosp then the quality was almost the same as stock.
Don't know how devs are working here because i have the phone only for 2 weeks but for what i see the biggest "problem" is the way to unlock the bootloader.
It seems LG just made a step back with this phone in terms of development.

Stock camera is definitely better - you could use other camera apps like "Camera FV-5" or "A Better Camera" for better results with CM/AOSP based roms.

- Can't use shutter speeds longer than 0.5s with 3rd party cameras even on stock firmware. That is quite a drop from the 30s stock can do.
- Some examples i saw showed that auto in low light does not work well at all. Max ISO which is something that never happens in stock auto.
- How do they get access to use the colour sensor & laser auto focus.
- what resolution is CM burst mode (9MP stock) & CM panorama (can be in excess of 100MP with stock) etc.
- night shot which is a mode automatically used in low light with the rear camera that employs image averaging is lost. Night shot mode is used much more often with the front camera. So selfies are not going to be as crisp.
- unclear whether unlocking the boot loader causes any permanent loss to the above.
I've not even seen full resolution examples from cm camera just reduced resolutions. So cannot tell if sharpness of details in the distance is retained or not.
Early days, we'll have to see how it goes. There's a lot of testing that remains to be done to even begin to answer the OP's question.
If you want CM that bad get a device that runs it out of the box. Wiley Fox swift is one example.
Thanks for this post, I was wonderful the same question.
What is the current situation, for exemple with snap camera designed for G4?
Thanks to anyone for an update answer!
Snap Camera does a great Job, since codeworxx startet to work on it. Besides the ui, that is not as individual as LG's, almost every feature from the stock cam is working (except high speed/slomo filming I guess). Picture quality is getting pretty close to the stock camera . I use it as a daily driver and I'm pretty satisfied with it.
