Hi! I recently had an issue which caused my phone to be soft bricked, but I somehow solved that... My issue now is that I want an aosp rom on my phone, but am worried about installing it. Some guides say flash the boot.img first, some say flash it after. What I want to know is what rom is the best Jelly bean rom to install. Or, if it is a good idea to move up to kitkat... my only concern with that would be which recovery supports a kitkat rom, or if i need a custom hboot or something.
Sorry if I sound a bit nooby about this, I have only just got this phone, I have a lot of experience with Samsung's, but not HTC's... Thank you in advance!
If possible, could anyone link me to the files I need?

Well what do you expect of XDA people? To offer you a repair service?
Just check if that problem matches your case, and if so, send it back to HTC!
THEY will help you.
Ok Ok, i just thinking about it, maybe is any .apk ? what can calibrate my keyboard or something else?
Question mate, i can send phone to T-Mobile in UK if i Load Custom Rom ? i not loosed warranty ???
Thanks
You have a chance that they will not accept the phone because it has custom firmware on it. (Or there has been tampered with)
Best thing is to make a backup of your files, texts, apps, etc. and load a stock ROM back on it by using the official RUU downgrade method.
That way the phone will be reset completely back to stock and they won't know that you had an custom ROM on it.
Hi guys.
I flash the fullscreen mode with cmw recovery, and when the system was reebot it stop to a boot screen (white with HTC One written).
I tried to lock bootloader and installing RUU, but it say me who phone is not plug on the pc.
I tried to wipe cache/dalvik/etc etc but I'm not able to restart my phone.
Anyone can help me?
I just try to "fastboot erase cache" and "fastboot reboot-bootloader"...but nothing.
..you need to learn to make a backup in recovery first, when you dont have that much experience yet.
Which rom you was using? The stock or a custom one?
relocking bootloader and try flashing a RUU was completly overkill.
You just need the original android.policy, which was overwritten by flashing the mod you tried to get running.
I'm sure someone can provide a flashable zip for that...just ask in teh thread of the mod.
If you got your rom runnning again, esnure to make a backup in recovery. On that way you can always restore your working rom.
...and btw: brick = cant turn device on

I learn it yesterday evening, I don't forget to do it next time.
Now I'm trying to flash the RUU, before I didn't enter in fastboot.
Installing complete.........
anxiety....
...it work.
Yeah I had the same issue after installing the full screen patch too. Thankfully I'd done a Nandroid backup just after I rooted so I just did that. Would have installed a custom Rom otherwise

Hi, I'm completely new to Android and just upgraded myself from my 3GS to the One X (and what an upgrade at that!). However I'm a bit dissatisfied with the Sense interface and would like to flash it with either vanilla or some cool unofficial rom.
The problem is I'm scared to death of bricking it. Especially since a friend of mine had told me the usual method of being sure you won't get a bricked phone is to simple change the rom on your SD-card. It would seem things get a little trickier when you don't have an SD though.
How does this backup in recovery work? Will it be making a backup of everything on my phone now and place it in backup? Will this ensure a corrupt rom image or whatever won't brick my phone?
From what I understand a launch from recovery is completely separate from the rest of the system, so unless you've broken the memory card (in which case I guess your screwed anyway) it shouldn't be possible to brick the phone should it?

what you are looking to flash would be called "aosp"...android open source project, this means pure, unadulterated android from Google. At present time there are no aosp roms for the hox. They all have the HTC sense interface. Be patient. I'm sure this device will get a lot of attention from the dev community and we will have plenty of aosp roms to choose from in the near future.

Ah, yes. This is indeed what I'm looking for. Thanks, guess I'll just wait a little longer then.
my too sgs2 hard bricked becuase one for wrong bootloader and other for synah rc 3.6 kernal, so i bought one x and now lets see......will this work or not?
You have to make sure your RUU is for the same network and country and is newer then your current RUU or the CID will block it
So I have managed to brick my phone...my fault really as I don't know much about custom roms and I've tried to use god knows which kernel with jelly sandwich mod. I can get into fastboot and flashtool still though, just not into cwm. Can anyone PLEASE tell me what to do, step by step? Where can I get stock kernel (if this is what I need) and what should I do? Please, I need phone for the weekend and don't have a spare one...
thanks in advance guys!
Hi there,
Here's a good thread with all you need to know - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1653188
Look for a stock rom "Generic Global"
You can flash this with flashtool, and your phone will be working again (all data and settings lost, but SDCARD still OK).
After that you can spend how-ever much time you have free trying to get back to the set-up that you prefer
Hi XDA Community
Well i just need your help. I bought a Samsung Captivate Glide phone more than a year ago and now i think its time for flashing some ROM's since ICS is getting too old for me plus it is really battery and ram hungry. My phone really needs updating and i dont want to mess it through some wrong steps or process.
As i stated i am a noob and my only experience is Rooting my device with the help of XDA threads only.
I was hoping if there are people willing to help me in suggesting and flashing a good ROM (whether 4.2, 4.3 or 4.4 if any) because i was reading all the threads related to flashing and seemed kinda lost. Please can anyone help in explaining and directing me in steps (from backup to full flashing of ROM). For now i cannot afford to buy a new phone so keeping up with my buddy i927 glide.
Please Please Please, any help will be appreciated.
Simple step will be Good enough.
Thanks in advance to the XDA community.

The first thing you will want to do is get a custom recovery like TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) or CWMR (Clockwork Mod Recovery).
You can find TWRP here. It includes all of the information you need to get started using a custom recovery, and its a touch based recovery program.
If you'd prefer CWMR, you can find it here.
Now, you will need access to a computer (and ODIN) to install the first custom recovery you want to use.
Download the (newest) ODIN version (onto your computer) of TWRP or CWMR from their respective download sites, and place your phone into download mode by restarting it, and then holding the [UP] volume button when its rebooting.
Now, assuming you rooted your phone already, you should know how to use ODIN.
After ODIN completes, reboot your phone into recovery mode, and you should see that you are in the recovery that you wanted!
The next step is to get Nandroid Backup and make a backup of your phone.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH SPACE REQUIRED TO BACKUP YOUR DEVICE, OTHERWISE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RESTORE YOUR PHONE!!!
Now, you should be able to download and install a ROM, and install it via recovery.
Note: You must wipe your phone! All of it! Otherwise the ROM may not work!
For TWRP, just place the Custom ROM you want to use in either the root of your sdcard or in your ext-sdcard, and select that file in TWRP. Flash the file. If the ROM comes with custom gApps (Google Apps) as well, you need to flash them after you flash the ROM.
I have to go now, and will edit this later.
This is why I made my guide check it out in my signature!

Just follow it.
(<--Remember to Thank @stormdude124 and ME if this helps! :good
Thank you all for your replies, it really means something to me.
Well i found the guide you all are talking about after a few days and my phone is now loaded with Android KitKat 4.4.2.
Thanks again to each and every one who replied and all the Xda community for such impressive work.
Hello guys, i am new to installing custom roms.
This will be my first install.
I have i9100 international version and want to upgrade it from stock 4.1.2 to lolipop mainly because my phone is old and lagging like hell.
Before i posted i have searched the forum and google and found some info but its still kinda confusing to me.
I was thinking to upgrade to CM12. CM13 i think will be too much for this old phone!
A lot of guides say that i must have installed a custom recovery. I dont have any...
trying to search how to do the above, i find that in order to do that i need to root my phone! This is where i get lost. Some say i need root, some say i dont!
Some guides say to use odin, some others to use bootloader or something....
Can someone that has done this give me some pointers or some step by step guide to read on how to do this?
Also, is it possible after installing the ROM to get my apps and my settings back? logs, sms, contacts, etc etc etc?
thanks for reading guys..
