[Q] Nexus 7 Bricked during root to Android L - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hi All ,
I am using a Nexus 7 -2013 and had android L preview on it. Couple of days ago i planned to update it to Android L full version using the images provied at Google developers.google .com /android/nexus/images. I used hammerhead-lrx22c-factory-0f9eda1b.tgz
However, during the update the animation screen went on for couple of minutes (over 15) and i tried the process again. After repeated steps it didnt worked and i thought of rebooting it or restoring it to factory. Doing both, Nexus 7 stucks at the animation screen for hours until battery run out. Can you suggest what might be wrong and how can i get Android L over there ?
Followed support google com /nexus/answer/4596836?hl=en for restoring.

Did I read that right? Hammerhead? Thats the N5. Razor is the wifi N7. You tried to flash the N5 image on the N7 man. Hopefully you didn't **** the bootloader. If you can boot to the bootloader run the flash-all.bat (from the correct image) and you should be good.

My bad... I used razor only ... N7 image...

Hmm, the flash-all should work. Sure you're on the 04.04 bootloader and not the old one from the preview? Otherwise I'm not sure. Try running fastboot format cache or wipe it from recovery.

razor-lrx22c this was the one to be precise. Can you share steps for fastboot or wipe. Wiping as an option is not available for me though using the reset combo.

Did you use a recovery?

If you use a recovery, like TWRP Or Clockworkmod, Press & hold Power button & volume down button together. Then You will rebooted to bootloader. Press the volume buttons to choose recovery mode, & pressing power button. You will rebooted to Recovery mode. Press Wipe & follow instructions for Factory reset.
I hope this helps.
For future, I recommend you not to flash Images from Google. You can use stock images from Xda developer forum, say, Clean Rom which is pure stock with some performance & battery performance. If you use Windows PC, you can use "Nexus Root Toolkit" to do flash roms, kernel & anything you would want to do with your nexus 7.

Hi average geek
Recovery shows me a screen with android guy open and red exclamation mark. No option for wiping . Also I am using Mac os x. Please suggest some tool for that .

When you see that screen, you press the power button and up or down key at the same time , I forgot which one and the options will come up.

That means you have no recovery (Twrp or clockworkmod) installed. You only have Default recovery on your Nexus 7.

I think you should reset it one more time. Just follow the steps you have done previously.
1. If your tablet is on, turn*it off.
2.Press and hold the*Volume Down*button, then press and hold thePower*button at the same time until the tablet turns on. You'll see the word"Start"*with an arrow around it.
3.Press the*Volume Down*button twice to highlight "Recovery mode.
4."Press the*Power*button to start Recovery mode. You'll see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark and the words*"No command.
5."While holding down the*Power*button, press and release*the*Volume Upbutton once.
6.Press the*Volume Down*button twice to highlight*"wipe data/factory reset,"then press the*Power*button to select it.
7.Press the*Volume Down*button seven times to highlight*"Yes - erase all user data,"*then press the*Power*button to select it.
Note:*If your tablet becomes unresponsive at any point during these steps, you can restart it by holding down the*Power*button for several seconds.

Stuck a Nexus Boot Logo, No Recovery, wtf.

So here's my issue:
A few hours ago I decided that I wouldn't exchange my just traded Gnex at Sprint, and decided it was already time to unlock bl, root, and all that good stuff. So once I got around to that, as soon as I finished rooting, CWM gave me an option right before rebooting to remain persistent, or something like that, but knowing that I would install TWRP in a few minutes, I pressed no.
So I went on, installed TWRP through the goo.im app, waited about an hour doing junk on my phone, rebooted it for whatever reason, and went back to the goo.im app and pressed to reboot into recovery. When it did, I got the android with an exposed chest and a red triangle on it, which I assumed was TWRP not installing correctly. So I rebooted back into android, reinstalled TWRP, and this time went straight into recovery, and it worked. From here on in, I had already downloaded AOKP MR1-B6, and corresponding gapps, so went ahead and flashed that after wiping and all the normal stuff.
Now I'm here, I've been stuck at the Nexus "X" logo for a few minutes, did a battery pull, still nothing, and tried to go into recovery, and the phone will not go into recovery. Assuming I'm doing it correctly, I push the on button and vol up at the same time, and release power when the Google logo appears, and should release the vol up when recovery pops up, except I get the Nexus "X" instead.
This is a toroplus btw. Any help would be great lol.
You need to press the power button and BOTH volume up and down to get into recovery. Three buttons

[Q] Forgoten/unknown unlock code, need factory reset broken volume rocker (vol up)

Hey xda community in need of some help
I found this beat up looking htc one past week.
Broken volume rocker, specifically the up key.
Problem is it has a pin (combo lock) so ill have to factory reset to use.
Well, i cant get it to initiate the reset rlwithout pressing vol up since there is no camera key.
Am i mistaken, is there a work around?
I was thinking there had to be some command from the computer to tell the phone to factory reset, or couldnt i just install a custom operating system?
Thanks team!
Actually if the phone is completely stock you should actually be holding volume down and power at the same time and that will boot you in to the bootloader. Which from there you can do a factory reset...... It should be listed right there on the screen.. Then use volume down to highlight factory reset and then hit the power button to select it and ............ profit!
---------- Post added at 10:09 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:07 AM ----------
Correction or rather edit.. This should all be done while the phone is off. With the phone off hold volume down then press power and keep holding them both at the same time and that will get you in to the bootloader where at that point you can perform a factory reset..

Still no solutions?
Orignally i could get it to come to the factory reset screen, but now it wont anymore rather it goes to "safe mode"
I havent seen this safe mode before and the cricket worker couldnt get around it either.
Im thinking just use something like cdma workshop but i need to put it diag mode dont i?
Can u do that without the passcode?
Thanks.

entering recovery on f400s

I would like to know if someone has the same problems as me entering recovery mode on lg g3 f400 korean series
according to many sites, by pushing volume down and power simultaneously until logo let go for one second and repush same buttons again until the factory reset screen.
THAT IS GREAT. but for the life of me and after trying 2 and half trillion times, i am coming zero for 2 and half trillion times.
can someone tell me EXACTLY the proper sequence. it is exhausting not to succeed at something that apparently is so simple.
thanks guys
happy new year, if you're in a country that celebrates it.

Try this (bit different ): Push Power + Volume down, when LG Logo appears release power button only for 1 sec but keep holding Volume down, then push power button again. Keep holding those 2 until you enter recovery(Hopefully).
tried
i tried exactly 20 times, pressing 2 buttons, releasing power then pressing it right after logo pops.
nothing doing less than 3 seconds after releasing, the led starts flashing at the begining of the load program and that's when i start crying

Can you turn on the device and enter your OS? If so and you just want to enter recovery, you can download an app that can make you boot into recovery like Quick Boot ( Reboot ) . You need to be rooted though. Sorry can't come up with anything else.
reason why i am asking
your idea is good, but i want to upgrade to android 5.0. = what happens is once you upgrade there is not a single app that lets boot into recovery that does not require root.
so i download the app, but since my android upgrade has erased the previous root, in urder to flash the superuser file app i must do it FROM RECOVERY
if i found an app that lets go into restore WITHOUT ROOT that would be fantastic. but i don't know of any,
if you do, please pass it along, that's all i need.
thanks, sincerelyh

If you want to upgrade to Official LG Stock Lollipop you can use LG Flash Tool 2014 and the Right KDZ for F400S, that way it will probably fix your "broken" Recovery. You don't have to enter Recovery for it, you have to enter Download mode ( Turn off device, connect usb to Computer then plug usb to G3 while pressing Volume UP button ).
Guide and links: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089
Stock Lollipop KDZ for F400S : http://storagecow.eu/Xda/LG G3/Stock/Lollipop 5.0/Lollipop_F400S.kdz

did you find a remedy ? or can somebody else help?
whats proper way to enter recovery on LG G3 Korean F400S
If the OP is doing the right hardware key combination, and not getting recovery mode, is recovery (stock recovery) missing from his phone altogether? Is that a possible thing?
I for the life of me cannot find the steps on the internet for this but I did find them and entered recovery once before.
The steps for entering recovery for the F400 variants is DIFFERENT than the typical G3's out there.

Hold power and the volume up button or some **** like that.
When you see "No Command"....hold Power + Volume for a few seconds and let go. And it immediately shows recovery options. Repeat it until you see it. If you hold it too long and don't do it right, it starts rebooting!

Following this advice literally will likely get the OP stuck at the same point (HTC logo screen).
After holding vol up + power (as suggested) for a minute or so will force a reboot. Once the screen goes dark to reboot (but before the HTC logo screen appears) let go of the buttons, and only hold vol down. Don't let go until the bootloader screen appears. From there, you can go to recovery.

This was only an "accident" in that you were somewhat careless and hasty in your actions.
It still astounds me that a good number of folks decide its a good idea to go into the TWRP "Advanced" wipe options (and its called that for a good reason) intentionally ignoring the statement that the default wipe "Most of the time this is the only wipe that you need"; and then proceed to select partitions to wipe, without properly understanding what the result will be, or how to recover.
Further, once you have TWRP on the device, the first thing you should do is make a backup in TWRP of the stock setup. Regardless of whether you are rooting, installing a custom ROM, or otherwise messing around in TWRP, you should always make a backup before doing any of those things.
That way, if anything goes wrong, getting up and running is as easy as restoring your backup in the TWRP Restore option.

Its a forced reboot every time. I don't think there is a way to force it only to shut down (without immediately rebooting).
I just tried it, holding down power+ vol up, and letting go immediately after the screen turned off; and it just rebooted.
Solved, thank you for your time.
