Can I disable Proximity sensor? - LG Optimus G (International)

Hey, guys. Recently I got E975 second hand, but I am facing problem with the proximity sensor. If I have to be more more specific, I have problem with the display on top as it is slightly unstucked. So when I do a call, it shuts the display and I can not do anything at all. Even I did marked the option to end calls with Power buttnon, but it seems not to happens. The button is working though. Everithing else is working, it's just that anoying problem. So can I disable it or something? The phone is 4.4.2 stock, not rooted. Please, help me out!

I have same problem. You can try xposed module http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.mrchandler.disableprox. But you must have rooted phone.

It could help me but unfortunately, the volume buttons appear not to work. So I can not root my phone. I already ordered LCD and volume replacements, but since then...
Anyway, thank you

Where did you order new LCD?

Hey, guys. After all, my lcd display arrived and I did it as new one. I fixed the volume keys and then I rooted the phone, installed Xposed installer. Then i got that module "Disable proximity"and it works like charm! Thanks to anyone who tried to help me out! I hope this would be helpfull information to others!

[Q] Screen black after screen unlock

I've noticed that sometimes when I unlock my device I have a black screen with only the "multi-task" button and the status bar visible. It will stay like this until I "lock" the phone and unlock it again. Touching the "multi-task" button makes the rest of the buttons appear but touching them still doesn't make the screen respond. I have noticed this on both stock and custom rom. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas on a fix or cause?
I am using the Virgin/Bell Canada GSM version.
Thanks
ps. I've posted a pic to give people an idea of what I'm getting....as it may seem unclear in my explanation.
At first this sounded similar to a problem I had.. I installed Wave Launcher, which for some reason did not play well with my phone. I would unlock the screen and the screen would immediately go black as if it had shut off, but I could still push buttons and receive haptic feedback. I had to have someone call me and delete the app while I was in the call.. it sounds kind of similar but not really.. my first guess would be some sort of problem with an app being incompatible.

I wanted to pass this on...I was reading in the Team Kang rom that there is a "bugfix version: app navigation menu icons no longer disappear after unlocking phone". So I hope this is what relates to my problem and has been "fixed"!

proximity and light sensors

Hi guys!
Last month I dropped the phone in water. After that ,during a call the display is switched off and I need ti use power button to open it so I can close the call. Also, sometimes during conversations it opens setting menu or applications and I need to close them to go to the home menu.
I think this came from bad working of the sensors.
My question is : can I recalibrate them or is a hardware problem?
P.S. also since then the led notifier doesn't worked but today I had a surprise : it's working again!
Thank you in advance!

Device wake issues (power button ignoring first press)..

Hi,
I've had my M9 for a couple of weeks now, and slowly getting it to work how I want it to. One thing nagging me is this weird issue I have with waking the device from sleep.
I have tried to disable all the gesture/smart wake features (double tap the screen, etc). The issue I'm having seems to relate to the light and/or proximity sensor. It seems (and I haven't been able to find any info on this, online or on the phone) that there is a feature which will enable the device to wake up when being picked up or taken out of my pocket. This doesn't always work, but sometimes it does. When I pull my phone from my pocket, it will sometimes wake up. When I glide my finger over the front camera & light sensor, it will sometimes wake up. This is a minor annoyance, as I would like to only be able to wake my device by hitting the power button.
It gets really annoying when these 'gesture' wakes start to interfere with the power button wake. For example (and this is happening more often than not), when I pull my phone out of my pocket, the phone is off, then I hit the power button once, and the phone still doesn't wake. Hitting the power button a second time will wake the device. It seems to me that the smart waking is some how interfering with the manual waking.
Is anyone else seeing this behavior?
Any suggestions for a solution?
Thanks a lot for any help.
This is really odd considering the M9 doesn't support air gestures. Sorry, I have no solution, but is it possible you may have installed an app that may be causing this?
I would think two button push would be the normal, otherwise you could accidentally hit it once and turn the screen on. Do you have Ambient display and pocket detection all turned off ?
Gravity Screen in the play store gives you total control of all that stuff
That for the replies guys.
Clsa, there is no way to disable ambient display & pocket detect because those features do not exist on the M9 (at least... Not that I have found). That's what is bugging me.
I don't think the 2 button press is normal. I've never had to do it on previous phones.
Fernand - not sure if it is another app causing it. I think I have no extra apps installed compared to my last phone.
I just tried Gravity Screen, and it seems to just give me the ability to enable all the features I want to disable.
Any other suggestions?

Settings / Display & Gestures / Ambient display (Wake screen when device is picked up or notifications arrive)
Pocket Detection is part of some Rom Tweaks (insertcoin & viperOne if i remember right)
Hi again, that option is not available on my phone. Do you see it on your M9?
I don't have a custom ROM. Not rooted either.

Yes I have it, but I'm on LeeDroid right now. He adds so much stuff i forget whats "custom" and whats stock
Got the same issue
The power button will ignore the first push while standing by for a long time. Thought it might be caused by apps like greentify?
Hi Ducati, is that a fact or is that just how you understand it? Seems strange that that would be intentional. But it definitely seems to be the case.
I do not have greenify installed either.
Do you get similar behaviour on your One?
After a bit more testing. I can confirm that there are some sort of air gestures on this device. I can wave my finger in front of the front light sensor/camera, and the device will wake.
This doesn't happen all the time, I am not always able to reproduce this. But right now, it is happening. Can anyone else reproduce this?
http://somevid.com/N1OnU8JS
I have the same issue on my M9. Glad I found this thread. Thought my power button was defective.
I can't activate any gestures by waving my hand.
I think it's happening mostly when waking from deep sleep.
I know it's an old thread, but I just installed CyanogenMod 12.1 and I guess my google-fu is rusty. I find that if I hit the power button in quick succession (double click) it turns off the phone. Anyone know how I can stop this?
By quick succession I mean multiple times within 20 seconds

phone does not wake up on calls ?

hello everyone. i use CM12 custom ROM around for 8-9 months.
Today i had a strange problem. When someone calls me, phone does not wake up. i mean, i hear the ring noise but screen is off. So i can not answer the calls. and when i call someone, screen is again off.
when i call somenone and when he/she does not answer, phone stays like that for a very long time (maybe an endless loop or something like that). so i make a hard boot to close my calling and if i need to press some buttons while calling (calling a bank or calling center etc), i can not do it. What can i do to solve it? does anyone have any idea?
i tried to change some settings in "buttons" section. i set "home button" to answer calls. but it does not work either. when someone calls me, i can not answer it. ((
i set "power button" to close calling or close the phone. it works.
i need an urgent help. can someone help me? i do not want to format everything and start a new custom ROM procedure
after a little search, i learnt that i have trouble with my proximity sensor.
i updated my ROM to CM12.1
i downloaded xposed installer and sensor disabler. but still does not work. how can i eliminate "proximity sensor" on calls?
in case somebody needs, i found the cure... if you install "rezound proximity" application, it will do it. it works on my HOX...

KnockON (''double tap'') and Glance View not working properly - LG G4 H815

Hi everyone,
I have an LG G4 H815 model, upgraded to Marshmallow six months ago. Last month, the device started to have a boring problem with the KnockON function. Basically I can't wake up the display while the device is locked: the double tap is not working properly, it works every 6-7 times I try the double tap. Neither the Glance View is working, and when I try to do it, rarely It unlocks the screen: seems that the device in that case sees the Glance View gesture as a double tap.
I've already tried everything: hard reset, downgrade to Lollipop, another hard reset, proximity sensor test with multiple app. Everything works fine, also the double tap to lock, the touchscreen works perfectly. The only problem is the KnockON and Glance View while the G4 is locked. I don't have any kind of case and screen protector.
Any ideas about how can I solve this?

Well another victim suffering from the same problem here. Really getting sick of this device man.
I've tried with the Always On app from the Play Store, which allows to double tap to unlock. And it works perfectly with this application. Now I'm sure that we're talking about a software problem

That is the feature of the application if you look carefully at the details on its google play page. When you use the app, your display will always be on. It is not related to the original double tap to wake already which is supposed to work when the screen is off. So I would assume it's still a hardware problem. Goshhh why are there so many hardware problems with LG?

You're right...Didn't assume that problem.
Hardware issue
I may be wrong, but I feel that this may be a screen/connector issue. I have two G4s, one has the KnockON issue described in this thread, and the other one doesn't have the issue. I recently had to put the mainboard of the G4 with functioning KnockON into the chassis of the G4 with the malfunctioning KnockON. When I did the switch, KnockON was problematic even though it it worked perfectly when in the other chassis. I switched the boards again to make sure I didn't break something, and sure enough, KnockON was working as it should when the mainboard was put back into it's original chassis. KnockON even worked with the mainboard from the problematic phone, when it was put into the other chassis which didn't have KnockON problems.
This leads me to thinking that there's a problem with either the screen or the mainboard connector. I could be wrong though...

I know there is a little rubber plug in the prox sensor a lot of people forget to put in theyre new lcds. And it causes knockon not to work very good
Hello,
I had the same problem as well, it seems that I loose the setting from time to time...
I found the solution already in the forum but cannot find it again.
Here it is :
1) Install quickshortcutmaker from the playstore
2) select "normal search"
3) search for "knock on"
4) launch the setting with the "try" option
5) see if the box for knock on is ticked (if not tick)
that's it, I hope it helps
The screen protector.
Make sure its nt envolving the proximity sensor
I've already tried with the shortcut app, but it wasn't useful because KnonON was ticked. I don't have the screen protector, so I suppose that the problem is related to the screen or the proximity sensor itself. Today i'm gonna open the phone and check if there is something wrong, or maybe I'll take it back to the customer service at the shop
It doesn´t matter what you tried, I talked to an LG tech lately, it´s a hardware issue. The proximity sensor is partly defective, so all these software workarounds don´t work. Period.
Missing option

Since I have problems that I cannot manage to solve with the KNOCK ON function (sometimes it doesn't work while most of the time a simple slide is enough to wake up the screen, turning it on while in my pocket) I wanted to turn it off with the quickshortcutmaker app, but it seems like I simply do not have the knock on setting. If I search "knock on" it gives me no results, while typing "knock" only the knock code wizard is found. I have done a factory reset last week, but I still have the same problem.
How is it possible that I cannot find the Knock On option even though I can still turn on the phone with the double tap? Anyone had the same issue?
I have the opposite problem. Mine is too sensitive; when I tap once and then again a few minutes later, this is registered as double tap! This means that the screen turns on itself in my pocket all the time. If I blow on it, it can turn on!
I'm not using a screen protector and the screen is clean. I think this started after I left the phone in the sun for a long time while hiking. The proximity sensor, light sensor and touch are fine.
I have not found a fix so just disabled KnockOn as @marcge 63 suggested.
