I own a att note 4 already unlocked but I am thinking of going with tmobile for the wifi calling feature. This is where my problem lies ...is there any way to install tmobiles wifi calling features over the stock rom? I've been out of the rom scene for a long time and would very much appreciate any help that could be offered I'm at my wits end on this one.
If I am thinking correctly, the Wi-Fi calling feature is part of the ROM. You may be able to install a t-mobile rom on the phone, if you have a NON AT&T phone, as I believe that the boot-loader on the AT&T phone is still locked and there is no workaround yet.
I am currently running a t-mobile note 3 on AT&T and the Wi-FI calling feature is not possible on AT&T service.

So I'm going to buy a T-Mobile Galaxy S4 tomorrow. I'm locked onto AT&T for a few more months (so I'll unlock this new one and buy it out right). When done I'm going T-Mobile (or Straight Talk).
Either way, there's a ROM developer over there who's ROM I really like that he's developing for the AT&T S4 (ShoStock) and I'd like to know since it's essentially similar hardware should it be a simple flash over?
I'm coming from an AT&T S2 and I know it was simple "hellraising" the International ROMs and they'd work on the AT&T variant. Can we do the same with the S4 (since they are essentially similar hardware minus additional radios on the T-Mobile variant).
Thanks!!! :laugh::good:

As soon as you get your Tmobile Galaxy S4 Unlocked you will be able to flash the AT&T ShoStock rom without any problems.
It will not need hellraiser or anything else and it can be flashed just like any other custom rom using CWM or TWRP recovery..
The only thing you will loose by flashing any AT&T rom on an Unlocked Tmobile phone is the free wifi calling feature.
All the Tmobile Galaxy S4 custom roms have the wifi calling feature in them.
If you flash any of the AT&T custom Galaxy S4 roms none of them will have the wifi calling feature.

Gotcha. What's the free Wifi calling feature? I won't be a T-Mobile customer for a few months and still on AT&T's network so I don't think I'd benefit from it.

I've been flashing AT&T AOSP based roms on it... I've been flashing AT&T sense roms on my T-mobile HTC One.. I haven't flashed AT&T TW ROMs on my Tmobile galaxy s4, but as I mentioned, I've been flashing AT&T AOSP based roms on my tmobile galaxy s4 with no issues at all.
I have ALSO been flashing TW i9505 ROMs with no issues at all. (which is probably more applicable to your question)
I'm on AT&T but have these tmobile devices for complicated reasons.
Best results i've had with my HTC is flashing international roms and selecting T-Mobile as my device type in AROMA, then once in the ROM, i just fix the APN to "ATT Phone" for full LTE speed, etc.
Same goes for i9505 TW ROMs on the GS4. The reason I bring this up is that I could never get WiFi hotspot (internet connection sharing) to work on either t-mobile phone when choosing AT&T as my carrier in AROMA (well that's not entirely true, it seems radio-related. older roms were fine, but then with a recent base-change, I encountered this issue with hotspot). I found by choosing T-MOBILE in AROMA, and then disabling wifi calling when in-ROM (to avoid the nags about invalid SIM type) and changing APN to ATT Phone, I have everything working perfectly.
I hope this helps you.
This is the WiFi calling feature:

If you have any tmobile plan you have a certain amount of anytime minutes, with free wifi calling whever you use it, it does not
subrract from those anytime minutes. I am usually home which means that 90% of the time that I use my phone I use wifi calling
and it does not reduce the number of minutes I have on my plan.
Wifi calling is really great, even if you leave it on all the time the phone switches automatically to normal cellular mode if it looses
the wifi connection.
Then when a wifi is connection is within reach, it starts using that again automatically which makes it really easy to use.
So for all practical terms, I leave my wifi calling on all the time. If I drive away from home the regular GSM/3G/4G etc. turns on.
Best of all the quality of the incoming and outgoing call audio is exactly the same using wifi or using the cellular network.

LTE is now available for both AT&T and Tmobile LTE capable phones. Even an unlocked Tmobile S3 can now get LTE data
in a lot of the larger cities.
One of my friends has an unlocked AT&T S3 phone and he is on the Tmobile network so he always flashes tmobile custom
roms, when he flashed a tmobile rom which came with the aroma installer he selects "Tmobile" since he is a tmobile customer.
If he would select AT&T in the aroma installer he would not get LTE data or 4G unless he changes his APN to tmobile's APN.
In fact, next time you flash a Tmobile rom without the aroma installer to an unlocked AT&T phone with an Tmobile sim card
you will see that it will automatically display the proper Tmobile APN after flashing without the need to change it.
Same thing holds true if you have a unlocked Tmobile phone and a AT&T sim card and flash a AT&T rom without the
aroma installer when it gets done flashing and reboots the phone when you check the APN it will have the AT&T APN
displayed automatically too.
Before I got my Tmobile S4 I had a AT&T Unlocked S3 I747 phone and when I switched to the Tmobile network and put
the Tmobile sim card in the phone while I still had a AT&T custom rom flashed in the phone everything worked fine and
when I checked the APN it displayed "T-Mobile US" without the need to change the apn.
So from then on, when I flashed any custom tmobile rom with the aroma installer and selected "Tmobile"
and the phone always had the correct APN in it after flashing without the need to manually change it.
When I flashed a tmobile custom rom without aroma installer after flashing it also displayed the proper tmobile apn.

If your phone is a Tmobile SM-G900T S5 model it already has Wifi Calliing
unless you have flashed a non Tmobile SM-G900T S5 rom.
There are NO apps at the playstore which enable wifi-calling.
The only way to have wifi calling is to have a Tmobile SM-G900T S5
phone with either Tmobile SM-G900T S5 4.4.2 stock rom or Tmobile
S5 SM-G900T custom 4.4.2 Kitkat based roms.
Any other roms will not have wifi calling.
Good luck!

You have not revealed your phone's model yet.
But none of the ported roms have or are compatible with wifi calling
and none of them have wifi calling ability.
If your phone is NOT a Tmobile phone it will never have working wifi
calling regardless what roms, ported roms or modifications you make.
Good luck!

Both the S5 and the Note 3 have wifi calling ability as
long as you use stock or stock based custom roms.
There is no need to modify, add or change any files.
If you are trying to use a ported/modified S5 rom
in your Note 3 the wifi calling feature will not work.
Modifying, changing or adding files will not make
the wifi calling work on any ported/modified roms
of any kind.
And that's all there is to it! LOL

Yes, I checked it out and the reason it has wifi calling is because SPRINT added that feature
for the Sprint branded Galaxy Note 3 and soon for the Sprint branded Galaxy S5.
Regardless of the fact that SPRINT recently added wifi calling to their phones it does not mean
that the SPRINT wifi calling can be ported to other brands and or models of phones.
It has nothing to do with Tmobile, Tmobile phones already have wifi calling if you use a
Tmobile branded S5 or Note 3 and a Tmobile NB4/NE6 based stock or custom rom and
an active Tmobile sim card.
None of the PORTED or AOSP roms will have wifi calling if you don't have a Tmobile
branded phone and don't use the NB4/NE6 N900T based custom or stock roms.
Ok check pics got everything like it should look my only problem is check the pics is t-mobile s5 sim card different from the t-mobile note 3? Any ideas i can connect to wifi no data my imei goes away airplane mode turns on every boot baseband is blank all this happens when i switch telephony-common.jar when i go back to original my signal..im sure i dont know what im talking about but any help is appreciated

I'm a total noob. Will flashing an AT&T phone with a tmobile rom allow wifi calling?
I recently got a hand me down phone from someone who had AT&T phone. It's an i747, but I unlocked and use it on the Tmobile network now. In Kansas City, about a week after I activated service, they disable some of the frequencies that my phone uses, apparently. I get data and texting relatively fine, but I can't make or receive calls most of the time. The settings don't allow me to activate WiFi calling, I assume because AT&T decided to disable the option, because they don't support it. If I flash my phone with a Tmobile rom, will it allow me to activate that setting, and make/receive calls over the 4g/LTE connection?
Thanks.
Oh, and I get at least 3 bars most of the time. Even with 5 bars I can't make a normal call.
I recommend not cross flashing the bootloader or modem as this could cause a hard brick.
As for at-mobile rom, you may be able to flash it but it may not work with flashing a different kernel.
Another issue is the bootloader on your phone. The latest bootloader and modem for the att is 4.4.2 and the most recent rom for the T-Mobile is 4.3.
Hello everyone,
Yes, I'm a noob here but online research, etc. tells me that XDA is the place for me. I am a IT tech, just not a programmer nor have I done a lot with flashing phones, etc.
based on some basic searching my issues seems to be common.
I am a T-Mobile user and I now have a new AT&T Branded Galaxy S9 SM-G960U. I paid a third party to provide me with a Samsung unlock code. I unlocked the phone last night, had T-Mobile update my account with my new Nano Sim, etc.
All is working except I can not enable WiFi Calling and of course there are some advanced text messaging features that I can not enable, i.e. sent receipts, etc. I tested the phone with a active AT&T sim and the features work fine.
Does anyone have a work around for getting WiFi calling and text features to work using the T-Mobile Sim?
Do I need to some how flash a T-Mobile ROM to the phone?
Any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated
it will never work because is att brand. you needed to get international model.
I'm not so sure.......... I have the SM-960u1 and have flashed various AT&T FW to it at least 50 times and cannot get any IMS features to work. I get get the ATT bloatware, software, splash screen. But no VoLTE, WiFi Calling etc. I am tired of flashing. Back to Stock U1 for me.
AT&T is the same. They keep promising wifi calling for unlocked phones but I can't get it and neither can 2 others I know with unlocked phones.
This sounds normal. I have an AT&T branded Galaxy S6, which has wifi calling, but I'm using a MintMobile (T-Mobile) SIM. Wifi Calling is grayed out. There's probably some sort of check in the software that only enables the wifi calling if you are using an AT&T sim.
Yes, you have to flash the T-Mobile firmware with the latest modded Odin, or the unlocked U1 variant firmware (for which TMO's RCS messaging and video calling won't work-with U1 firmware, I mean). If you flash the TMO firmware, it's for all intents and purposes turning the phone into aTMO phone, with bootscreen, bloat and all.

You will need to flash to the U1 Firmware then Flash the T-Mobile firmware. AT&T's Wifi Calling is proprietary and thus their phones software won't work with other Carrier's Wifi Calling.
I have a new Sprint unlocked Samsung S9 SM-G960U1 and am trying to get the wifi-calling to work with Cricket Wireless. Currently the wifi calling option doesn't even show up. I was wondering if flashing an after market ROM would enable me to access the wifi-calling feature. Cricket supports wifi-calling, but only on Android devices purchased from Cricket (a note I didn't see before I bought the phone). If there is please letr me know which ROM would help me achieve this.

incorrect. it merely needs to be provisioned by cricket on the back end by someone who isnt the typical moron with a headset. the reason byod devices have trouble is due to the IMEI not being listed in their system and it takes a ticket to be sent to the telephony dept and have it added. They dont like doing it, but they will when pushed. Unlocked A8 and A6 on cricket both had wifi calling and VoLTE after provisioning was complete.
you also have to have the right csc on the phone.

I have a method with imei from a good cricket wifi calling phone. And have it working. But I have to give them another imei once I have it provisioned. Once their system updates with my imei I lose my wifi calling. But after provisioning I give them my actual cricket devices imei and tell them the system is still showing my byod imei they need to change it back to the other device. It works. But imei in their system is wrong.
Not imei switching or anything like that. I physically own a stylo 5 from cricket I dont use. So they think I'm on that and not my g9650. So I know it's possible just a real pain
