[Q] Virtual keyboard without signs - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hallo
an app in Kodi installed another virtual keyboard over the original fire tv one.
This layout has no signs and i see no way to change it to the original one. :crying:
I changed the layout from german to english but it has the same result.
Is there a way to get the original layout at my box?

The keyboard has changed to qwerty in Kodi, switch back to the default skin named Confluence.
And encourage the skin maker of the skin you are using to update it for Kodi.
Anyways not FireTV related at all.

Sorry this doesnt worked for me.
I get a way to get my keyboard only with a reset of the Fire TV.
Now it works like new.

Was it the overall aFTV keyboard that went blank.
The one you use in FireOS and not Kodi? Or both? And are you rooted?
The reason I'm asking is that a addon or skin change in Kodi can not break anything else but the keyboard in Kodi because these are 2 different keyboards one buildin to Kodi the other is a Android service. Maybe by accident some app disabled the Android keyboard service but that should still leave you with a keyboard in Kodi if you use a compatible skin. The reason I am asking is because I thought what happened was the other way around ie. no Kodi keyboard only. That and I'm curios because it sounds odd and I like troubleshooting.
Anyway glad you got it working, although you had to factory reset.

HID Bluetooth Mouse

Hey Folks,
I'm using the Desire HD with the Cyanogen Mod 7 (latest Version from 2 Days ago).
Now I connected via Menu (Wireless & Networks --> Bluetooth) a simple "noname" Bluetooth Mouse and the pairing did happen. I used "0000" as Pairing-Code and the Desire gives me the Message "Connected with HID-Device" (or something like that, I use the german language).
Now I should see a Mousearrow or something should happen if I scroll or press a Button.
But nothing happens.
The Mouse itselft works properly - I tried it in Windows7 and Suse-Linux.
I also tried the App BlueInput (latest and some previous versions) but there its the same. I get connected properly but it wont work.
Now I'm hopefully waiting for your ideas (and I hope there are some)
Thanks in advance!
Ok, correct me if I'm wrong, you want to use a mouse to control your handset? Where the handset is directly in front of you?
I dont know if Android supports this. If you wish to remotely control your handset try WebKey from the market.

Well, there is also a possibility to make use of a WiiMote...
I see this more as a proof of concept.
What about the Motorola Atrix within its "to-Netbook-conversation-Docking"?
Internal Keyboard + BT Mouse = playable Quake3 on Android
Err bubble to bursting station, you can use a wiimote on a DHD quite easily. You can even do it with Apps available from the market place, hey you can even use the classic controller and nunchuck with it.
I have used it (not entirely successfully) to play N64 games on an emulator
At first : Thanks for your responses!

Yes, I want to control my Desire HD with a mouse when I stand next to it. If I wouldn't, I wouldn't have asked for it
The thing is that I need a Mousewheel - or at least something that can emulate one.
Correct me if I'm wrong but the WiiControl doesn't have such a feature.
What I found out is, that the Cyanogen 7 doesn't support Mouseweel-Actions.
I installed the latest 6.1 - et voilla - I get a Cursor and the Mousewheel works.
But unfortunately it doesn't work if I use it in a Flashmovie with the WebKit-Browser.
It seems that the Events are not tunneled into the Flashapp.
Someone got an idea for a workaround?
Ps: I like the idea of playing Quake3 on my Desire - but I prefer Quake1
Is there a way of using the mousewheel in a self-written application!?
That could also solve my problem
I mean, in the Cyanomod I can scroll around through lists an so on. There must be a way! (hopefully)

Fire TV and Flirc

Hey
Today I got my Fire TV and I am really happy with it! To use my samsung TV remote I bought a Flirc stick and programmed it with the XBMC layout. It works, but somehow I get ghost clicks and the keys are pushed much to fast, so its sometimes very hard to go just one step up/down/right/left. Anybody else experiencing this and has a solution or hint for me?
Thanks
Thorsten

You'll probably get more help on the Flirc forum, but I have had similar issues and the new Beta firmware for the flirc fixed it. I think Jason is planning to release that version as public soon if he didn't already.

[Q] Virtual keyboard missing in XBMC

Hi Guys,
I have just installed XBMC (Kodi Alpha5) in my Fire TV. Everything is fine except the keyboard. The Virtual keyboard appears, I can see shift key, Done, Arrows but cannot see any letters. all letters are missing from the keyboard.
Anybody can help me on this?
Thanks in Advance
Raiees
I believe there's a keyboard setting in your xbmc settings. I can't remember what the exact selection says, but I remember the phrase "onscreen keyboard". Maybe you can snoop around in the settings and see if you find it. I just use the Yatse XBMC/Kodi app, so I don't need the virtual keyboard. I also have a Hausbell usb keyboard connected just in case i'm not home and someone else needs to use xbmc.
kodi has a different keyboard setup... most skins arent supported yet and u get a blank one or none at all. im using amber right now since it is working good.. kinda starting to like it too. goto xbmc.org and do some reading on the forums.. easy to figure out what skins work and what ones dont. i might have downloaded it from the amber skin thread over there.. cant remember since it was a bit ago.
Thanks Guys for your help.
But I was not able to find any solution. I uninstall Kodi 14 and install XBMC 13 and I have no problem with keyboard.

[Q] Alternate keyboard layout for external keyboard without root?

Hi,
Devices: FireTV with actual firmware (non root) and K830 keyboard.
Works flawless (keyboard an mouse), but ...
I got german keyboard layout and the layout in FireTV is english.
Its ok, but it would be much better to get a german keyboard layout.
Any ways to get that without root (or even with root, although i guess its impossible to get it for me)?
Thanks in advance.
I actually have a question about logitech k830 itself.
Does it work without any issue with Amazon Fire TV?

Fire TV and German Keyboard Layout

Hello,
is it possible to switch the (german) Fire TV keyboard layout from english to german? This would make it possible to use a german keyboard and enter german special characters (Ä, Ö, Ü...) from an external keyboard, and z and y were at the correct position.
Thanks,
Wolfgang
Hello,
I have tried to send german special characters (like Ä. Ö. Ü...) via 'adb shell input text' command to my (german) Fire TV, but that does not work. Maybe this has to do with the fact that Fire TV has an english keyboard layout and so far I have not found a possibility to switch to german keyboard. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Wolfgang
Hi
i have created some german layout for the Logitech K830.
As written under hint you can try to use the kcm file as generic one or rename the files accordingly to your keyboard Product/Device ID.

Hi,
thanks for sharing the info and your files.
I am not yet decided if I want to root the AFTV, maybe I give that a try next weekend.
Regards,
Wolfgang

I develop alternative software keyboard to Fire TV and Fire TV stisk - Fire TV Style keyboard. I can add any layout on the keyboard, I also try to implement the German keyboard layout for the hardware keyboard. While you can try to modify another keyboard for a hardware keyboard. All this should work without Root permission. If you are interested in this - contact me via private messages.
