Ok, this may be the wrong place, but I'll ask in the hopes that someone knows the answer.
I just upgraded my M8 to the Developer Edition Lollipop build and got everything up and running. My phone is S-off/Bootloader unlocked, but other than root, is bone stock. (Literally - I reapplied the 4.4.4 RUU followed by the 5.0.1 OTA)
ES File Explorer keeps popping up a "hint" when I try to do anything on the external SD card and opens up a "Documents" folder. However, when I follow the instructions, Documents force closes and returns me to the file manager. Since I am S-off, it completes the operation anyway without error. I can (once I get past that window) copy/delete/paste/create files on the external SD card at will, either from ES File manager or via USB on the PC.
Is there any way to disable the hint and stop ES File Explorer from popping up that Documents folder?
Does anyone have any info on this? I'm interested also, having the exact same issue after upgrading to Lollipop 5.0.1 on my unlocked Galaxy S4 SHV-E470S. I love using ES File Explorer for everything, but this definitely makes things somewhat annoying

Ok, I'm not sure what the problem is but every time I open ES File Explorer it tells me my SD card is unmounted or not present. However, all my programs installed to the sd card run and if I use Astro file explorer I can access the files on my SD card. Also, If I go to applications and clear data for Es file manager it will run until I reboot my phone and then it will not work again. I've tried unistalling it and reinstalling it and it will run unitl I reboot and I still get the same error. I've searched this forum and on google and have not seen anybody else experiensing the same problem. Does anyone know what's causing this? Thanks.
Nobody has any suggestions?
Try going into settings and unmount your SD and mount it again. Then open ES and try again. If that doesn't work then try the above steps again and uninstall and reinstall ES before opening it.

I am having this issue as well. I think it started with the latest update.
I have same problem... I reboot phone. Same problem. I end up uninstalling and reinstalling then it works for a few days then problem comes up again. So I repeat process.

Try Root Explorer
I was having this problem as well. It occurred after I allowed es to have root access, and then tried to connect my phone to my computer through USB to transfer files. I was however not able to transfer files between my computer because the mass storage button on my phone would not process any function. I resolved this problem by enabling debugging mode, then pressing the mass storage button. After transferring some apks, I disconnected my device to install them. However, as I stated, when I opened es it gave me the "unable to mount SD card" error. The only way to resolve this I found was to go back into es and disable root access. After I did that I was immediately taken to my SD mount.
I fixed the issue by going into application, ES explorer and clicking clear data.
Unfortunately you lose settings, but it saves reinstalling.
nope!!!!
the way to fix this permanently is to go to settings and disable root access.
works perfect!!!!!!! and dont need root access ALL the time lol
SD Card unmounted or not present. Here is the fix:
Android ES File Explorer Error:
SD Card unmounted or not present. Here is the fix:
The path is the problem.
1. Launch ES File Explorer
2. Click on "Menu", "Settings", "Home Directory".
3. Change the path to exactly the following (only the one slash as shown):
mnt/sdcard
4. You may need to refresh by exiting ES File Explorer and re-launching it, or by pushing the home icon in the main program screen.
5. Celebration!

I just got my first Droid cell phone, and was having a problem finding my external flash memory card also.
In ES File Explorer settings, (open program, tap menu pad, elect "Settings"), and then scroll down to "Up to root". Enable "Up to root". This lets you tap the back button all the way to the roo directory of whatever file system you are browsing.
The path to the external flash card is /mnt/sdcard-ext
This means you tap the back pad until you see / as your path up top, then scroll down to "mnt", and select that. Then you scroll down to "sdcard-ext" and tap that. You are now browsing your external sdcard. Add it to favorites, so you don't ahve to do that again!
While I am new to Droid phones, I am not new to Linux. I run it exclusively on everything. Basically, the android operating system is a screwed up version of Linux. Google uses Linux to get the system going, then they make it so you can't run any of the tens of thousands of already finished nifty open source Linux programs, such as LibreOffice, Firefox, Thunderbird, etc...
Hi all,
I'm a new registered member here but just want to start by saying i've read MANY, MANY threads here the last few days...probably 6 hours worth and all I can say is this forum is awesome! I decided to take the plunge and root my first phone and install my first rom knowing I had read a TON. Long story short, everything worked to perfection!
I rooted my phone first and after reading up on a few different roms I ended up going with Mikeyinid's 2.3.6 debloated rom and then flashing the Hercules Kernel. Again, everything went to perfection. I then read up on ROM manager and Titanium Backup...d/l'ed and installed both of those apps from the Market. As i'm starting to get more apps and add more things to my phone I realized at some point tmobile will send another OTA update..in the 1st quarter of this year (from what i've read) which contains ICS 4.0. Because i'm really loving this ROM from Mikey, i'd rather hold off and wait for a modded and debloated ICS version even if that's months after the release by TMO OTA.
Anyway, getting to my question....one of the threads I read on here was regarding being "rooted" and having TMO send an OTA update. From what i've read you'll lose your rooting AND you'll get RE-BLOATED. I prefer DE-BLOATING over rebloating..on both my phone and my stomach. However, my stomach needs a lot more rooting then my phone at this point.
Anyway, In the thread there were a few ways to prevent receiving updates from TMO after you've rooted, one of which is to locate a couple of files in the system folder (apk files) back them up with ES ROOT or something similar and delete them. The problem is....I've checked both drives that show up in Windows explorer for my phone and there is NO SYSTEM FOLDER anywhere.
Was the system folder deleted in this particular ROM and if so, I assume I don't have to worry about those "apk files", and won't receive TMO OTA updates anyway, right? Or am I missing something completely?
Thank you very much in advance any response is greatly appreciated.
You wont see that folder if you connect to pc.. Only within the phone using root explorer or any other file manager that can access it.. And like always, soon after ics release.. There will be a original odex version of the update or deodex. Either odin or flashable through cwm

@ noodles, thank you. Your reply here on the forum was like the roms here....blazing! Thank you. I'm using ES FILE EXPLORER and didn't see the file anywhere which is what prompted me to connect my phone to my pc and see if I could see it there. Since you've said that file won't show on a pc I've reopened ES FILE EXPLORER and the file is still not there.
Now in the top/middle box in ES FILE EXPLORER it says "/SD CARD" so it appears it's showing me only files from the internal SD card? I've tried to change the directory it's showing but there's nothing else in there to change it to other then /SD CARD. I also did a search with ES FILE EXPLORER and nothing came up with system. But again, if i'm understanding this correctly it's only searching the "/SD CARD" location and I can't see any other way to change that.
I know Titanium Backup (Pro) would allow me to freeze the device application and prevent any OTA updates but from what i've read ES FILE EXPLORER should allow me to locate the two files..backup and delete them. Any ideas? And thanks again for your time.
UPDATE:
Please disregard my post. I've searched every prompt in ES FILE EXPLORER and found you have to click the "FAVORITES" tab in order to see the system files. In the drop box which is a directory box I would of thought I could change it there, but you can't. You have to hit the "favorites" button and then you'll see all the other goodies. Thanks noodles...you helped me out and I learned another new thing...that those files can't be searched on a PC. Thank you.
Never used that file manager simple with root explorer, straight to the point.. Anyways, youre welcome. You can pm if you need help..

@ Noodles...thanks again...I appreciate the willingness to help. After playing around with it for 30 mins. I actually like the interface of ES FILE MANAGER. Root explorer is a paid app and while it isn't much there are a lot of paid apps and before you know it you can drop a lot of money with 4 and 5 dollar apps adding up so I was going for a non-paid option and ES FILE MANAGER did what I needed and easily. I moved both wssync.apk files to my external SD and then deleted the files from the system/app folder.
Now hopefully no OTA updates from TMO will affect my phone.
Can anyone confirm that you can only move files to the external SD card using Samsung's File Explorer and not third party variations like ES File Explorer Pro? I believe this is because of an idiotic change that KitKat brought, but strangely, my Note 3, which was upgraded to KK, doesn't exhibit this problem (I can still move downloaded movie files to my external SD using ES File Explorer).

I was trying this with my 16gb version that I sent back for 32gb version (comes tomorrow). I tried some appmgrpro3 and it show'd what I could move. It worked meaning I never used Samsung's file explorer. If by that you mean Samsung apps(shows all apps installed, next tab running so forth).. I THINK that opened after and I could pick storage or sd-card.
Yet for a program lets say 711mb. It would send the APP 11mb to the sd-card and leave the 700mb on storage. It did this for every app I could transfer. I hope that's just a bug.
Ok I think I read you post wrong. I dont think I even tried that yet haha sorry. I will get back tomorrow though
Apparently, you should still be able to move files back and forth using an app like ES File Explorer, so I'm not sure what the issue with my Tab is. The card was formatted using the device itself, so everything should be fine. I am starting to suspect there is some kind of security bloatware involved.
Heck, I couldn't even erase a movie from MX Player Pro; it gave me a KitKat permissions warning.
There's an Xposed Installer module named KitKat SD Card Full Access, looks like it might be a promising post-root solution to the write issue.
I don't know how else to describe this issue I'm having:
Essentially sometimes I cannot create new folders, either in an explorer app (ES File Manager, Explorer (free, not Root Explorer), or other file manager) or when connected to my computers via USB. Sometimes I can do both. Similarly, sometimes I cannot move files from one directory to another, both using file manager or when connected to computer over USB. It seems random, I think?
An example of this is I downloaded a PDF file from SharePoint using Chrome. The file is downloaded to the /Downloads directory by default. I wanted to move this to a different directory (/Documents), but the cut+paste operation failed. ES File Manager says the operation can't be completed, Explorer just sits there and doesn't say anything. When trying to do the same thing over USB connection, Windows just sits there saying the device is busy, and it'll sit there indefinitely. But an OGG file I downloaded from Dropbox was free to be moved to and from several directories when I was testing file operations.
Basically it's like my device doesn't want to play nice with files and folders. I tried doing a factory reset, but that didn't seem to help. Do you think completely reformatting the phone (as in fastboot format userdata, and a fresh ROM + kernel install) would help? It seems drastic, but at the same time being unable to move files and folders is very strange and likely hard to pinpoint the culprit.
I'm rooted (using traditional SuperSU root) running Pure Nexus 12/01/2015 ROM and ElementalX 0.07 kernel (Enforcing disabled). I doubt any of those 3 factors are the cause of it, but every detail might help, right?
Update: It looks like a permissions issue. Please see post below.
OK an update to this, I discovered that some folders that I thought I had deleted using ES File Manager are still showing up in USB storage when I'm hooked up to a computer. That is to say that what I see using a file manager versus what I see while connected to a computer are different.
Further to this, I am now getting "Permission denied" by the file managers when I try to copy and paste anything from anywhere to any other place. I have booted into TWRP to run Fix Permissions already. It looks like everything now has rwxrwx---, which means to me 770? It should be 775, no?
Any ideas what might be causing this permissions issue?

For this, I read somewhere that the latest ES File app has a recycling bin for when you delete apps. So, that needs to be emptied too.

I did indeed clean out the Recycle Bin (and subsequently disabled it), but the problem persists. But thanks for pointing that out!
OK, an interesting discovery:
If I am on my device and using ES File Explorer and if I am in the path /storage/emulated/0/* then I am unable to copy/move files and directories, as I've described above.
If I am on my device and using ES File Explorer and if I am in the path /sdcard/* then I am unable to copy/move files and directories, as I've described above.
If I am on my device and using ES File Explorer and if I am in the path /data/media/0/* then I am able to do anything I damn well please.
Now this makes a bit of sense to me, given the permissions for each directory. For example, when viewing the permissions of a file or folder when in /sdcard or /storage/emulated/0, I can only see the permissions as "Readable: Yes, Writeable: Yes", but I cannot change said permissions. However, when I view the permissions for something when under /data/media/0 then not only can I see the explicit permissions "rw-rw-r--" I can also change it if I wanted to.
I suspect this might be more than just the ROM. Perhaps I did not flash the system.img correctly when I first went through the process? Is this possible?
ok i have searched this issue but what i found wasnt specifically for this devices and none of the similar topiocs solutions work for me. so here is my issue..
First of all i have Sprint HTC 10, htcdev unlocked, sunshine s-off, latest twrp, running viper10 1.2.0, no other mods currently & running great from the start.
the issueis.. with root explorer, when i copy/cut/move any type file from the internal storage and try to paste/move file to my external sdcard it give me a SD write Persmission (see attached picture) its says after pressing OK a dialog will be displayed and to navigate to sd card but afteri hit ok root explorer closes and i get "unfortuantely, root explorer has stopped" keeps happening and come think of it similar happens with fx explorer an ES explorer as well. i gave permission during twrp and in venom tweaks i have "mount system r/w" option turned on, root explorer is r/w as well. i can move files from sd to internal storage without an issue. can anyone help me solve this. thanks in advance
