Phone wont boot - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok here's what's happening. I was running ViperOne originally w/ TWRP recovery. I wanted to switch to Android Revolution. Did all the normal back up functions then wiped and flashed. After I flashed the phone would try to boot into recovery when ever powered on, but would hang at the "Entering Recovery" screen. I flashed the newest version of TWRP, which got me out of that loop. Now the phone boots straight to fastboot only. I can enter recovery and communicate fine w/ it from my PC. However, nothing I do stops it from booting to fastboot. I've tried installing multiple ROMs and changing recoveries, but the behavior remains the same. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Go into bootloader, connect to PC and use fastboot command "fastboot erase cache". That should do the trick.

[Q] ViperOne won't boot

I've got the AT&T HTC One M8. Bootloader unlocked, rooted, S-off, TWRP recovery.
I'm trying to flash ViperOne M8 and done just about everything I can think of but without any luck. It completes install, but upon reboot, just shows the white screen with HTC logo and red text, and then reboots. At that point, I'm able to use ADB to get into recovery but can't boot into ROM.
I've been trying ViperOne 1.6.0, and currently downloading an older version to see if that'll work.
I tried Android Revolution HD and InsertCoin. Both worked fine, so I know I'm able to flash custom ROMs just fine, but not ViperOne. Any ideas?
Tried flashing .img with fastboot and .zip with TWRP, both cause boot loop.

Start from the first release and do the OTA Updates up to 1.6.0.

running cyanogenmod but now cant get into recovery?

I successfully flashed cyanogenmod 11x last night. I followed the steps and everything works great! The phone boots fine, all features work ok. I had a slight issue of it hanging on the CM logo, but I powered down, booted to hboot > factory reset, and it booted up fine the second time.
Strangely, I don't seem to be able to get into recovery any more? if I go into hboot > recovery it just boots CM. I tried flashing the recovery again using fastboot, as I did when first installing CM, but it still doesn't work. Next I installed Rom Manager, installed the latest CWM, and rebooting into it from there - Still doesn't work.
Any suggestions?
I had the same problem i was flashing the boot.img in the recovery partition. Fastboot flash recovery [recovery.img]
Fastboot flash boot [boot.img]

[Q] S-Off Stuck On Bootloader, Won't Enter Recovery

Hey Guys,
I flashed the newest CM12 nightly (27th), but it wasn't really stable, it ran like crap. After only being able to install a few themes, on unlock one time I wasn't able to enter my password, it kept saying it was wrong.
So I decided to enter twrp, wipe dalvik/cache, then flash the last (24th) nightly that I was on previously.
Now, on boot, the phone get's stuck on the cyanogenmod bootlogo.
I can't enter recovery. When I select it in hboot, the phone just trys to turn on, it never actually enters recovery.
How would I go about fixing this?
Thanks for your help

Boot into fastboot mode, then reflash your recovery.

Can only boot into fastboot mode anymore

Hey guys,
I have a problem with my Z1C.
I used CM 12.1 quite a while now and I wanted to know how much difference is to Android 6.
So I downloaded the Remix Resurrection rom and flashed the boot.img in fastboot mode to replace the CM-recovery with TWRP. That was a bit tricky, because CM deleted TWRP again and again and booted in the CM-recovery.
So, finally I got TWRP working, after booting directly into the recovery after flashing the boot.img via fastboot.
TWRP now told me, that no OS is installed. I tried to wipe the phone and to install the RR-rom, but the recovery always said that it has the wrong version (?).
So I flashed the boot.img from the Cyanogenmod-zip and was able to boot into CM again. But now there seems to be no recovery on the phone. Whenever I try to boot to the recovery, the Sony logo appears and the notification light turns into orange, but then it starts again to do so.
At the moment I try to boot into CM again, but I think it has stucked in a bootloop...
What can I do here? The only thing what works is to boot into fastboot mode, but without the system.img I cant flash any roms there. How can I fix this?
Thanks!

Shut down your device and press volume up button while connecting it to your computer. Then it will boot into fastboot mode and you should be able to flash stock firmware in flashtool, and then you can start from scratch.

Another option is to follow this guide to install Recovery and When done you can boot into Recovery and flash a custom rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-z1-compact/general/fota-twrp-recovery-amami-t2909719

Try Rashr app from play store. It sounds to me like incompatible kernel/recovery combo. Download a recovery IMG, (latest TWRP, for example), then use Rashr to flash it. You can also use it for flashing a boot IMG. Its probably the same reason you had trouble flashing ROM.
Besides that, you can install real recovery, which works the same regardless of the kernel-

Okay, after flashing it with flashtool it starts again. I now put the RR rom with Android 5.1 on.
I have again the CM recovery, but at least it starts how it should.
I will try to flash the real recovery, thanks!
Update:
Currently running RR with Android 5.1.
I would now like to use RR with Android 6, but again, I can only boot into the Cyanogen recovery, which cant make a backup of the currently running OS. I have tried to flash the boot.img from RR 5.1 with fastboot, Rashr, but nothing seems to work, as it puts me back to the Cyanogen recovery every time. How can I replace the Cyanogen recovery?
And one more question: When the phone starts, the notification light turns into red before the Sonmy logo appears and then turns into pink. What does the red light mean?

You need a recovery img, not boot img. Try this one - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65361797&postcount=78 or this one - http://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-z1-compact/general/fota-twrp-recovery-amami-t2909719 Open Rashr, choose ' recovery from storage'.
Okay, i flashed the 2.8.6.0 version via Rashr and now Im stuck on the Sony logo...the notification light is orange all the time, but I cant restart the phone anymore...any suggestions?
Edit: Worked! Used the combination between power and Vol+ to reset, and now it starts!
You should disable CM Recovery Protection – On your phone go to Settings > Developer options. Then disable the ‘Update recovery with system updates’ option. Otherwise it will keep installing cm recovery itself.

[HELP] Mate SE in TWRP bootloop after installing openkirin lineageOS beta 4

Mate SE, installed TWRP 3.2.1-0 Pretorian80 Edition then installed openKirin lineageOS beta 4. Went to do a factory reset and now TWRP starts on startup but does not get past the loading page. Tried rebooting into bootloader, using the button combo or adb reboot bootloader only brings TWRP back up with the same issue. Any ideas?
From what I understand, you need to flash lineage via fastboot. Did you do that??

Yeah I launched the bootloader and used fastboot to flash it. The flash went through fine, then it rebooted and asked if I wanted to factory reset the device and I selected yes. Now it won't shut off, it only reboots into TWRP's loading page and sits there.
I should mention I have access to some ADB commands now but rebooting into bootloader won't work.
EDIT: got it working, just had to time rebooting it and plugging it in and holding vol- and power correctly, took me 30 or so tries, fml

Directly from OpenKirin's install guide:
"TWRP and other custom recoveries are not supported! Please ensure you have your device’s stock recovery installed. If you install the ROM with a custom recovery, we cannot assist you with any issues which may arise."

Yeah....I skipped over the sentence saying "please ensure you have your device's stock recovery installed" and thought installing it via fastboot without using TWRP it would be fine. It was not. IMO they should make the warning more dire.
All fixed and working now, thanks for your input.
How did you get it fixed?
