I promise I'm not a noob to the G3! Perhaps I'm just losing my mind a little... When I first got the device I played around with it and added customs icons on the home screen just for fun (and soon removed them). I want to try some new ones out but it's not working like before. I obtained what I wanted from Icon Archive (as before). I threw them on my phone and they are showing up when I go to add custom icons. However, it goes to crop them (and it seems alright - the crop image is small when looking at it but the the entire image is selected. When I confirm, the new custom icons on the home screen are tiny. What am I doing wrong? I downloaded the icons from different icon packs so I highly doubt there's an issue with the dimensions of all of them. Am I missing a step? Thanks!
Figured it out. Needed higher resolution images after all.

Hadn't seen any themes that had even really changed the picture frame (maybe no one uses it?), but I took it into my own hands to modify it for my phone. I tinted it blue, and it turns out mostly transparent with a black wallpaper. I think it is pretty damn cool, and will share the file with people if they like it, of course it means you have to know how to add it to your current theme - which I take no responsibility for. In landscape mode it has more of a blue appearance, but how often do you view your phone in landscape mode? Anyway, here is how it looks. My phone has a very modded theme that has a lot of elements from other themes, and several that I have created myself.
Any interest and I can post the actual pictureframe.9.png.
Sorry, I didn't feel like rotating the landscape shot. Lazy, or tired, I guess.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing... when will somebody edit the picture frame. Good job, looks great! Can't wait to see actual picture frame.png. Your baby is very cute btw. Congratulations!
I was wondering the same; why no one edited the picture frame widget to match themes/skins. Maybe you are right and nobody uses it. I would love to see someone edit it to match theur skin/theme.
So theme/skin developers, now you know at least someone people would use it!
if you look at the last few post of my MoOn DUST theme you will see a pic of a pic with no frame that i added to my latest build.

There is no link, this is not an update you can apply. The image is attached to my last post, if you want to use it right click and save it, you will have to put it into your Launcher.apk, resign it and create an update.zip with an install script.
sorry, I misunderstood. I downloaded it. It'll take awhile before I can play around with it and get it installed into an apk.
But, thank you for the image! You ROCK!
Problem with picture frame widgets
Not really on topic here about the transparent frame but it's as close as I could find without having to start a new thread. With that said... I've always had issues adding a picture frame widget to my screen. I select Picture Frame from the widget list, I select my picture from Gallery, crop it, select Save and then it takes me back to Gallery again! Then repeats. Eventually it'll seem like it's saving and go back to the screen... but alas... no widget. Time wasted. Anyone have a solution?
Ok I have been looking everywhere and can't seem to find a app that will set the wallpaper as is without cropping or cutting the edges off. I know the best resolution is 960x800 but it still cuts off parts of the picture. I've tried wallpaper set and save and a host of other apps from market and various android freeware sites. None of them seem to set them right, any help would be highly appreciated. I have an HTC evo running cyanogen 6.1 stable and everything is so far so good and I want to thank this website because without it I was lost. This is my number 1 forum so I know ill get the answer, its out their please help me find it. Thanks in advance!!
flikie wallpapers hd is about the best ive seen at this. it still crops but i keeps most of the image quality
Only thing I can think of is to take the photo you want, make the actual photo whatever the screen resolution is (480x800 from what I've read) with black bars on the side to make the entire picture file 960x800. Then use launcher pro to freeze the background so it doesnt move when you swipe. Your picture should be centered.
When you select the image for a wallpaper, you see that little box in the center? Drag outwards on one of its edges.

Thank you all for the speedy replies, I see what your saying. I have my desktop set to have only one screen already, but I went and got launcherpro cause of its features. But yea I downloaded a few pictures before that were 480x800 and it had the black bars on the sides but when I set it, it cuts off the head and feet, 960x800 however does not, it only cuts just a little off the sides. I'm guessing now that the picture is to wide and I wanted to know if I could make a picture keep its height and change its width. I don't know maybe keep the height from the 960x800 setup and the width from the 480x800 setup if that's possible.
My friends, friend has his set up so that when he sets a wallpaper it gives him the option to set as is, to crop, and i think the other one was to cut it. I don't know if its a application or if its the firmware (like cyanogen i mean) he uses, I would ask but he lives very far a few cities over. I have been combing the internet for this app or whatever, and I'm fairly new to android phones, but I got a pretty good history with computers so that definitely helps. But this one seems to be a common problem with a somewhat easy fix. Any ideas?
Are you sure you didn't mix up the 2 sizes lol. 960x800, and not 800x960. Not trying to be a jerk or anything, but I've done that before using Photoshop.
Is there a way to, turning off wallpaper scrolling, set a wallpaper using portrait-oriention without having to use the cropping tool? The image I want isn't exactly setup for landscape...nor do I get the entire thing. It's kind of annoying. Any other device would just set it on it's own without having to crop it to a completely different size...
If you're using launcher pro, under appearance settings. As for no landscape, I'm not sure, other than to turn the whole feature off.
This epic reply brought to you by none other than my roxx'd out Evo.
The only ways I've found to do so is to use Multi-Picture Live Wallpaper or edit the image and turn off wallpaper scrolling if you're using a home replacement app.
For Multi-Picture LWP, go to common settings and select the image you want to use - for best results have the image sized at 480*800. If it's smaller it will look bad, and if it's larger it may also look pixelated and the app may only show a portion of the photo depending on what your settings are. Don't set any individual settings.
If you're using a home replacement that allows for turning wallpaper scrolling off, you can use Photoshop, Gimp, or another editing software to center the image. First crop/resize the image so it's 480*800. Then you will need to add 240 pixels to each side (left and right). In Photoshop, I do this by adjusting the canvas size (it's under "image", I think).
If you want to do it the second way, but don't have the software/knowledge to do so, you can send me the image & I'll do it for you. If you want to do it yourself, Gimp is a great free photo-editing software.

So ... I am going to try doing this without the ability to post links, so we will see how it goes.
add https:// to the bellow line, and I think it will work correctly
docs.google.com/folder/d/0B8E71a8hLgx1V3N3RlY0VmN3OGc/edit
This is a "link" to a goodle drive folder that contains a psd for laying out wallpaper graphics to work well with the Nexus 7. As a proviso, my current setup is using a combination of the Nova Launcher for good landscape access, and the app Wallpaper Changer for a rotating selection of images on my wallpaper.
Either one of these, MIGHT be slightly adjusting how it automatically crops/resizes to display on the screen, so ... your mileage may vary slightly.
The Use_Example is how my 3 screens appear as I scroll through them, and the LayoutGuide is where that image would fall using the guides that I created for horizontal & vertical alignment, with a separate guide to show where the Dock would be.
I hope this helps folks get creative with their displays, I tend to have a variety of artwork & characters showcasing my various interests, that are all on a uniformly branded backdrop, but thats just me.
So ever since I have had my 6 pro I notice that when I have a black wallpaper or a dark colour set the top last maybe centimetre from across the top of the display washes out/ fades out Into grey and I have noticed that changing between different colour profiles either makes it less apparent or more worse. I'd like to think it's software as I don't think it's doing it anywhere else but the home screen but I could be wrong.
I think this is a thing to show the QS panel, we had a bug on the betas where there was a line up at the top of the screen to show it too. IIRC that one occurred only on lockscreen though.
That's actually part of the pixel launcher. I hate it with a passion. My mod, which is available now, removes it by default. If you are not rooted you have to use a 3rd party launcher. If you are rooted but don't want to use my mod you can edit the image. Its called workspace_bg.9.png.
