[Q]Battery question - Sony Smartwatch 3

Hello i have just received my sw3 3days ago and i want to improve my battery my sw3 drains 3,36 % per hour check (my battery stats ) .... Can i improve it? And how much its the normal draining ?

Try with stock face or if not resolve issue uninstall all app, try and install one by one.
On your snapshot you have a lot of install and BT transfert, so you need also reboot watch every day to avoid all memory lake on wear system. Wear is not a stable OS

if you put it in theatre mode you'll get less than 2% an hour.
But I very much doubt you'll get it lower than that.

You can get under 2 per hour if you low your screen brightness and do all the i mentioned before

Thanks. I just turned the brightness to 1 and the theatre mode is inconvience so i didnt turn it on.

Did you turn the watch in theatre mode over night? or just leave it alone without extra setting?

I haven't developed a consistent schedule yet but sometimes I do, and I sometimes I don't. Last couple nights I have been I believe I had it in theatre mode so I will test it out tonight with theatre mode off and post back. However, even with that mode off, I've noticed that if it sits in standby long enough, the screen turns off itself anyway so it appears it's almost entering into a variation of theatre mode itself.
I will say though, I do disconnect my watch from my phone over night. I believe that does help with battery drain over night.

Thanks for help investagation. On the other hand, What is the percentage battery drain per hour of your SW3 in day time?

Okay so last night(10 hours of sleep for me ) I had a drain of 5%. Started at 88% and woke up with 83%. This was with theatre mode OFF and the watch disconnected. So it appears that whether you're in theatre mode or not, it doesn't make much of a difference. I will have to trial this more but it seems to be the case.
I haven't paid much attention but to that statistic but I'd say each day takes roughly 30-35% battery each day. But here is the other thing, I don't always have it connected when at home. If I know I'm going to be sitting around home all day I usually just disconnect it but still leave the watch on. The range tends to cut out throughout my house so it's kinda annoying so instead I just take it off. But my watch still remains on all the time even if it's not connected.

Thanks for the detail description. I am always outside and connect to my phone, so I think Google Fit always spend much to calaculate my steps.
Besides, i found the watch always connected to my bluetooth headset( I tried the watch-only playing music function). Now i make it unpair off from the headset and hope this would decrease the battery drain.

This is my stats i have to charge it 1 day my setting ls tilt off , theater mode off screen always on and i rebooted once a day

Stop using the light and orientation sensors. So turn off auto-rotate and don't use auto-screen brightness. Also use wifi when possible; 3g will consume more power if your signal is weak.

It is not good for me either. I am loosing about 15% a hour with the screen off and not even using it. If I use the phone i can just watch it fall about 1% every 5 min. I don't get it. the only thing i have in the background running is weather, twitter and gmail. That is it nothing else. The Android OS sits about 86% use in the batter use screen. I have no idea what is causing this. Any help would be great.

Run the phone down completely, to the point where it shuts off. Then charge until the led turns blue(fully charged), then turn it on. I'll screenshot my battery status tonight.

Yes it is always posted that high. I have also already tried the suggestion of completely draining the battery and charging to 100% twice now. Doesn't seem to help. This is not my first android phone so I have tried all the typical turn stuff off. I started with the hero and then went to the evo. Then jumped to verizon for thunderbold and now back on sprint for this phone obviously. So far this is the worst battery life I have had yet. Seeing what you guys are getting though gives me hope.
I have tried using spareparts to get more battery information but get a force close when trying to do that.
Man I know that battery results range pretty wildly, but I'm averaging 10% loss per 2 hours.
On launch day I was on it from about 3:30pm until about 10pm and only lost about 40%. And when I say on it, I bet the screen on time was 95% of that time.
So far, the battery life is one of my favorite things about this phone. First time I've felt comfortable enough to run a live wallpaper.

You are lucky then, If i use the phone I will loose 40% in about 2 hours no problem. Also if you are loosing about 5% an hour that will only give you about 20 hours total before your dead. I see people reporting they are getting over a day. Just don't see how. Are they just not using their phone at all.

What I do is look at my active app widget to make sure I have no apps running. It is nice being there. Messaging sometimes hangs, I have noticed that.

You SHOULD always when you get a new battery fully Drain it and then fully charge the battery with the device OFF. Thats what I did with my phone. I kept using it once I got it, it lasted around 5 hours before the phone shut off during a phone call. then when I plugged it in to charge, I plugged it in and did not turn it on and waited till it fully charged with the Blue Light. I dont know about the normal thing now adays with lithium ion batteries but you were always warned in the packaging to let your battery fully cyle its first cycle with no use at all. The cells in the batteries have a memory type of design and if you dont fully charge the battery you can prevent it from knowing its full capacity.
Now I dont know if this is true anymore with the new battery production of the manufacturers now may power cycle the batteries before they seal the whole package so the customers dont have to do it. Maybe why when you get your device the battery is around 50% now like mine came. I remember older devices you could not use your device until you fully charged the battery the first time.
About Screen Brightness, I learned from a Epic user that the best way to conserve battry usage was to always keep your Screen Brightness at 10% (Gotta love the Touchwiz Brightness Changing with the Top Notification bar, this device will not show the slider bar like Touchwiz 3.0 on the Epic but IT STILL WORKS!!!!). I have noticed that at the lowest brightness setting I can still see everything vividly enough to work with it and im getting over 24 hours with moderate normal usage (like only 1-3 5-10 minute phone calls, surfing the net, surfing for new apps) This is my first android phone. I also have had 4G turned off and Wifi off all this time as I have no way to access those right now. I also have GPS turned off because I havent needed to use it yet. I pretty much have everything but Basic needs turned on besides all the Factory default presets. I also Turned my screen mode to DYNAMIC, which seems to show more vivid colors like I use on my Samsung TV for my computer usage.
Now I turned off Live wallpaper and im using one of the preinstall basic Grey ones (the one with the asfault looking spot light) (I have been trying to hit the crazy benchmarks people are getting trying to find out why I am not getting the 93+mflops mine keeps hitting 80's) So I dont know what heavy usage is doing to my phone.
but then again this is only under 48 hours of ownage. My first full night off the charger was 1 day and 3hours before it said I was 5% battery life and I plugged it in.

[Q] My Stand-By time is about 10 Hours

If I were to leave my phone on without using it, it would die in about 10 hours. Is this normal? It's been like this since stock. I don't think this is normal since my G2 had way better stand-by time.
Please, don't say it has something to do with your settings and stuff, because I had the same things turned on with the same apps on my G2 with way better Stand-by time. GPS and Auto-backup.
Im running bone stock. I recharged after 38 hrs. And still had a 30% chg left
These were 14 hrs after complete chg.

See? This is what I'm not getting. Even since stock my Standby time was horrible. So I rooted to get better battery life. Nothing is changing. I even did a battery calibration to see if the phone was just reading the battery wrong.
I have another question. After the phone is finished charging at 100%, as soon as I take it off the charger, it goes down to 99%. Is that normal? I thought the phone was supposed to stay charged at 100% for a little while.
I just unplugged mine from complete charge and as soon as I unplugged it went to 99. So, yes????

That is normal to drop to 99% immediately. I always charge to full before I go to sleep at night and for some reason if I leave wifi on, the drain is really low when not in use...

Ok. I have no idea what is going on, but my phone just randomly rebooted, froze and then reset my home screen replacement launcher (as if I hit set to default), and now when I went to check on the battery usage and this is what I get:
Android OS is now at about 2% along with other things.
Display is at about 50%.
This is new. Android OS used to ALWAYS be higher then display. That didn't make since.
Now things are different. It seems the display is using the most energy. That is normal. I expect that.
I don't know, but it seems that everything is back to normal. I am using the phone, so I'm expecting this battery drain, but I'll check to see how much battery is drained on stand-by when I go to work later on today.

If you want your phone to last you throughout the day, make sure that "Use Wireless Networks" in Settings -> Location is unchecked. That is the biggest battery guzzler this phone has next to 4G and Brightness. My battery loses 2% all night til I wake up (Thats 8 Hours!!)

I figured it was a Samsung thing. I leave GPS off if that's what you mean, but location services stay on. That's just a me thing.
///////////////////////////
Today after work, I lost 30% energy on standby. That's alright with me. It was about 6 hours of straight standby time. It seems to have gotten better. At times I'd lose at least half of my battery after at least 5 hours.
I don't know how the phone seemed to fix itself, but doing things doesn't just DRAIN the battery anymore. I was playing on the phone fixing my home screen launcher and my battery wasn't dying right in my face. I lost like 2% after having the screen on for about 20 minutes fixing up my settings compared to seeing 5+% in like 10 minutes.
I am satisfied.

Lol, your battery didn't fix itself, that sounds like somethings wrong with the battery cycle. Maybe you need to recalibrate it.
You see, sometimes if you overcharge a phone, especially when using a charger that isn't made for that specific phone (usually a charger thats too strong) it can throw of the charge cycle. Thus, it can take like 30 minutes to drop 50% and then another 3hrs for the other 50% (this is just an example). If you're rooted, I highly recommend doing a full battery calibration.
Secondly, the Use Wireless Networks thing in the location isn't really a samsung thing, i think of it more as a google thing. I noticed that when its on, Google is always sending information back to itself, thus keeping the phone awake longer. Thats why if you go to your graph, it show that your phone is awake more often then it should be. I personally uncheck it, because if i ever need it, I just quickly switch on the gps. Then turn it off when im done.Thats my recommendation to you. Yesterday, I personally got a full 24hr usage out of my battery, and it wasn't even all that light. I texted most of the day, made a few calls, browsed the web, and listened to music for a few hours on the subway. Pretty moderate usage.
See, I'm not exactly unhappy with my battery life... but seeing what other folks around here are getting MAKES me a little unhappy.
I mean, I went to bed at... I'll say around two AM last night at 90% battery. My audio book player ran for thirty minutes after that; woke up at about eleven AM, 53%. NOTHING CLOSE to what you folks are getting. All of the big culprits I've heard mentioned have been checked out, and I just calibrated, so I dunno where else to go with this.

Does anybody see anything unusual about my battery life?
My screen has basically been off, yet I'm still losing weird amounts of battery. Based on the hours, I took my phone off the charger at 4pm Dec. 04 (16:00) and it died at 6am (06:00) Dec. 05. That gap in WiFi was my time at work.
Those bars you see in display right before WiFi get's turned on is me texting and Facebooking. Apparently I wasn't using Facebook enough for it to actually get a place in my battery usage.
And of course those two little bars in the red was my phone telling me that it's dying. Too bad I was sleep.
Ignore the rise after the fall. That's it charging of course.
Also, if you notice, my WiFi apparently wasn't using anything to get a place as well. Those are all the apps that were listed. Why isn't WiFi there?
I calibrated my battery twice already. I can calibrated it again since it fully died. Let me make sure I understand how to calibrate it.
ROM: ACS Syndicated Ice
Kernel: LoS Kernel
1) Phone charged to 100%
2) Phone dies
3) Charge phone to 100%
4) CWM and wipe battery stats
That's what I do to calibrate it.

Add a 5th step which is using the battery calibration app from the market. Also, uncheck wireless networks from location settings (huge battery hog). I assume that's probably your biggest problem. Then, if you are rooted, do what I did, which is get a root explorer and go into system>apps, and move the social hub.apk and media hub.apk to a folder on your SD. It will essentially uninstall it. Those 2 apps are battery hogs as well even if you have never used them. They will always run in the background. Try those and lemme know if it helped.

Wireless network location settings is also mainly used by Google to send them data about your usage. I noticed a significant decrease in battery life whenever this is checked. I would rather just turn on my GPS whenever I need it than keep this function on at all times. Its just not worth it in my book.

Deep Sleep non rooted phone

Hi there, I got a random question concerning deep sleep on a non rooted phone.
Well my problem is that I know that my phone is not going in deep sleep (I saw it on cpu spy), I usually use betterbattery stat to know what app keeps my phone awake, but I just bought my phone yesterday and feel bad rooting it already.
Is there a way I can know what app is killing the battery of my phone? It is almost wasting more battery while my screen is off than on.
Thank you a lot

My phone wont go below 384 Mhz and Im loosing 1% every 15min or so (without using my phone). I tried rebooting, but wont help my case.
Why is 1 percent every 15 minutes a problem? I work a 10 hour day and my battery is 60 percent when I'm done I consider that good.

Nevermind; if you need more time on your phone you should task kill text messaging and any account syncs (email, calender, etc). You can even kill "phone" if you need to. I just think 24 hours is a reasonable amount of time for a charge to run out.The phone can run 3 days or so on absolute idle but that defeats the purpose. There are massive batteries available for this phone in the low $20 range in the accessories section. Maybe that's a better way if you need to go camping all weekend on a charge or something. I'm curious (nosey) what do you need so much time for?

So I'm just trying to understand why my phone is dying like this, what could possibly keep it awake all the time, Im deleting a couple of apps, but wont change anything.

Nop, cpu spy doesn't keep phone awake (at least on my s2 I was able to have deep sleep, but now on my s3 no) by deep sleep I mean there is nothing working on my phone, like no cpu. (I'm not good at explaining stuff )
You can still use betterbattery stats unrooted to check for rogue apps running in the background. Some of the options won't be available since they need root access but the app will still run. I installed it before I rooted my phone and was able to track down open apps causing battery drain.

Why is 1 percent every 15 minutes a problem? I work a 10 hour day and my battery is 60 percent when I'm done I consider that good.

1% every fifteen minutes is a problem!! That equates to 4% an hour while the phone is idle, not good.
@tenkaishy....When u install BBS someone will be able to better identify what is waking your phone.

Looks like the backup to Google servers is checked and constantly running. I don't have that option selected on mine. Maybe turn it off and see if the phone sleeps?

Normal battery drain?

Hey...android noob here. Got my first Android phone a couple of days ago after being an apple fanboy since the first iphone. Loving the note 2 so far. I have a question in regards to battery drain...unplugged last night after full charge and went to bed..woke this morning with about 82% left..it was idle the whole time except for checking the time a couple of times throughout the night. Does that seem to be on par for the typical battery drain? Thanks in advance. Loving the forums here so far.

Settings -> battery -> should show you what's been eating your battery. Tap on the graph for other details.
Could be anything from poor signal to an app you installed.

You can conserve you battery by stopping some of your apps
Eg : if you have youtube running this will help run your battery flat quicker
I turn off any apps that i'm not using even data ,gps ,location services etc....this can effect some widgets tho
Hope this helps
Ps some phones and tablets won't let you shut down apps so they will run constantly

Hi Mate,
Download an App called CPU Spy.
Power off the Note 2(do not restart) and turn it on.
Leave it for a few hours and make sure if the phone goes to deep sleep when not in use.
When u r charging the phone the state would be 200MHz so if you remove the Changer without turning on the screen it does not go to deep sleep.
So always turn on the Screen before removing this.....
Hope this helps
Regards,
Pravish
Not normal I'm afraid. I think most I've lost during a night is 3%, with wifi and 3g turned off but not in airplane mode. Most days I wake up with the same exact percentage as when I went to bed, i.e 0% loss during 7 hours.
Removing the charge with the screen off won't kick it in to deep sleep? Interesting, but sounds like a flaw somewhere. Where did you find this information?

That's not true! I remove the charger without turning on the screen most of the times and my phone does get deep sleep.
Not to mention the screen is automatically turned on when you unplug.

Battery life?

What sort of battery life are you all seeing with this years note? come from the ipad 3 where i usually saw 10-11 hours screen time and 2-3d standby, today is the first time ive had it from 100% and i only lasted 6 hours screentime with 7 hours overall on time, i still havent run it down completely yet but surely i should be getting more than this?
Its such a shame because i love it so much, but i cant deal with this short battery life
It's much better than that. I found it better after a couple of charges. I rooted mine and deleted or froze b.oatware and I get 13 hours heavy use

I came from an ipad 3 as well and had the same problem until I disabled several apps, turned off GPS, etc and over the long weekend I was getting ~12 hours of web surfing.
I haven't rooted yet so that should be a number that can improve. I'm sorta trying to wait for a root that doesn't trip knox. I don't want a custom rom so no reason to install a bootloader and lose my warranty if I can be patient. Tried Cydia Impactor but I had already upgraded to MK1. I'm wondering if the shipping rom (P600XXUAMIE) might have the 4.3 vulnerabilities unpatched.

What apps did you disable and how Exactly? Thanks alot

I've freezed all unnecessary apps and i am getting like 9 - 10 hours screen on time with 8 hours standby. Standby is great for me nearly no battery drain.

I thought it was more, but looking at the list.. go to settings, General, Application Manager, select the prinstalled apps you don't want running all the time and click Turn Off. I've turned off BlurbCheckout, Businessweek+, NYTimes, Polaris Office, Screen Saver and Twitter. I think more important was turning off GPS, Screen Rotation, Bluetooth, Reading Mode, Smart Stay, Smart Pause, Smart Scroll, Auto Brightness then adjusting the screen brightness to something a bit less retina searing than the default.

I've had mine since Saturday soooo, 5 days now. I get easily 10-11 hours of screen time. I loose about 1% per 8-9 hours in stand by and i loose about 9% per hour of video streaming from either my Netflix, HBO GO, or Slingbox account and that's with brightness about or just above 50%. I'm also NOT rooted yet. Totally stock with just certain apps turned off and i restrict a lot of the background data on individual apps that i don't need running background data
Have you guys try using this damn thing at 100% while indoors? It hurts the eyes with a white screen.

Hmm, I think I misspoke about the background data on this tablet. I do that religious with my phones (Bionic, GS4) but I went to look at what i did and there is no option to turn off background data. I would normally go to settings>data usage and tap whatever app and the check "restrict background data". I must have thought I did that on this tablet but obviously not.
i think the battery life is great on my tablet - i dont game with it - today it has been running for 13 hours 48 minutes with 5 hours and 48 minutes of screen on time and battery is at 52% - not rooted yet - i have everything i dont use turned off ( ie. smart stay/scroll, air view ) and running nova laucher prime and dont use power savings mode
Face it - it's nowhere near ipads. That's my biggest concern.
It lasts the day, charge it at night, what's the problem, as long as it lasts all day there's nothing to worry about

I dunno, doing pretty good over here. Rooted, but have no froze anything. Only rooted to get gameCIH installed screen is between 25% and 50% brightness depending on what im doing or where i am. I mostly just use it for playing a few games here and there, taking notes during lectures.. etc. This is about typical, sometimes I get a little less, screen brightness seems to play a huge role in battery drain (obviously) but ive never run it dead during the day.. ever. I start every day with 100% charge and dont usually plug it in till I go to bed. If I have a charger around and im not doing anything ill plug it in (I mean.. why not) but I don't ever have to "worry" about it going dead on me.
I'm currently on 9 hours of battery time, probably at least 4-5 hours of that is screen on time reading comics or doing sketchbook pro pictures.
Battery is on 46%.
So yeh, battery is fine. Brightness is about 30%.

Right... It's better then an IPad. I doubt the IPads beat 11-12 hours of screen time at roughly 50% brightness and an IPad has a smaller screen and less pixels to power.
freeze those mofos
I use app quarantine...
theres a dude that posted all the system apps u can freeze
and I followed his suggestions
cant find his post
when I do I will update this one...
Hi all, I just bought this tablet, I have not turn it on yet...
Do I have to charge the device fully before turning on like some cell phones are?! or I can just start using it right away?!
and what kind of battery it does?! how's the charging process?! should I wait for it to be fully discharged, and then charge it to 100 percent?! or should I keep it between 40 to 80 percent to save the battery life...
in a nut shell, if you have any forum or link or information that could help, please share

Dude, just turn it on and use it. The days of cycling a batter (let it drain and then charge to full) were over in the 90's with Ni-Cad batteries.. these do not develop a memory. From dead, the tab will take 5-6 hours to charge with supplied charger and in the wall. Using it while charging will still cause it to lose battery but a a much slower rate.
