[Q] Help with using Kindle Unbrick Utility - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Do I need to have something else installed on my windows 8.1 pro for this to work before installing this utility? I've done a full windows restore, which means I don't have any kindle softwares and drivers installed yet. I am using the very first kindle fire aka "incompleted version" that came out back in nov/dec 2011. Also, may I ask if someone can help with the process of restoring kf using this utility through the use of TeamViewer? I prefer an XDA Dev or a professional who is available asap. Thanks.
Note: I am assuming the problem is any of the 4 options, ruling out the stuck at logo.

Kindle Fire unbrick utility, likely will not work on any OS, if Kindle Fire system version 6.3.3 is installed.

That depends. If you are keeping stock OS I would upgrade first to 10.2.6 and then root using the tools in the dev section. That way you will have all the fixes and improvements before you root. Try running the Binary tool first and see if you have root, before trying the Qemu tool in case you don't need it.

[Root][Working 10.2.4]Kindle Fire 2 Root made easy
If you are going to flash other ROMs, then just try rooting using the tools in the dev section.
I would recommend backing up your partitions after you have rooted, so you can always put it back to stock.

This is what happens:
I download the driver, the installation wizard starts, about half way through it just stops and says that it failed. I have tried re-downloading it and re-installing but nothing works.

Is there an error message with the failure? Have you tried installing manually through device manager?

Yeah it says install failed. I have tried to install them manually through the device manager but it says it can't find the drivers.
If you are installing manually... Do it COMPLETELY manually. Don't have it look at the directory automatically like you are doing.

Rooting Kindle Fire 6.3.2

I just did it
1. Download KFU 0.9.9 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2192818)
2. Download TWRP (http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/blaze)
3. Download FFF (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1369405)
4. I rename them as "twrp" and "fff" respectively and place them in the "recovery" folder in KFU
5. I manually install the drivers
6. I check in the device manager to show me "Android Phone - Android Composite ADB interface"
7. I run the KFU
and that was all...
I check the root was complete with the https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...b290Y2hlY2siXQ..
It works fine, please tell me if you have any trouble
It only works with 1st gen btw
All of this could have been done just using option 2 KFU 0.9.9
You do know that right? This isn't exactly new information.

I've been trying last night and today, and it won't work. The version is 6.3.3. Drivers are fine, shows up as Android Composite ADB Interface in device manager on windows 7. I can access the Kindle as a drive on my PC. When I run Kindle Fire Utility 0.9.9, it reports
ADB Status: Online
Boot Status: Unknown.
If I try to either manually set fastboot with option 1 Bootmode Menu, or try to "Install Permanent Root with Superuser" option 2, it has
Installing Permanent Root
Activating Fastboot (4002)
5090 KB/s (510876 bytes in 0.09x) then this:
couldn't write bp1, panic!
finds twrp.img, and downloads fff.bin. Then the kindle reboots, KFU says "Installing FFF..." and <waiting for device>.
But then does nothing, even after I swipe the lock and go back into file transfer mode on the kindle.
Anything I try to do reports "couldn't write bp1, panic!" on KFU. I have another kindle that rooted fine, this one just refuses to.
Any ideas?

You have another kindle that has 6.3.3 that rooted with no issues? Just curious. Planning on rooting mine as well and looking for any insight as I don't want to brick my device since it updated to 6.3.3 on me.

Yes, I actually had 2 of them that rooted fine. They are all KF HD 7" First Generation. This one just won't. I'm now working with the KF First Aide tool kit, and I now get SU: ACCESS DENIED or something like that. Communication with ADB is fine, there's a permission issue somewhere I can't figure out.

Rooting Kindle running 6.3.3
so you have successfully rooted a kindle fire hd running 6.3.3? I have spent all day trying to figure out how to root mine and install a version of jelly bean. Could you point me in the direction of what versions of jellybean/kindle fire utility to use? i have tried using kf utility 0.9.9 and i have the same issue as you where it says the device is online but the boot status is unknown. Thx for the help.

Awww crapola. Nevermind. All I knew was that both of them were on 6.3.3, so I thought that was what they've always been on. Bzzzzt. The one that was working still has the adw launcher installed, but it doesn't have root any more. So THAT'S why KFU doesn't work on this new one.
They are my girlfriend's kids' kindles, and I told her not to ever update them, but I guess this one was pushed out.
So.... how long until theres a root kit for 6.3.3?

Didn't brick it, but didn't work either. The apk installs just fine, but when I click the "make it rain" button that says the device will reboot, nothing happens. The device does not reboot, and is not rooted. I tried rebooting the kindle and trying again with the same result. I guess I now fit the definition of insanity.

And... tried V2 of towelroot this morning. Still no worky-worky.
Somebody get a straitjacket.
Old rooting methods not working yah...
What I have done -
1. fastboot using factory cable
2. install TWRP+FFF with KFU
3.flash modified pre-rooted ROM
If Amazon continues updating 1st gen, not sure there are lots of enthusiasts, who would continue rooting it. Thus decided to switch to alternative ROM. Well, stock is better for battery etc... etc... but as I do also have HDX and most of time use it, having stock ROM on 1st gen is not as crucial for me.
According to this post (and the post above^^), if you have a factory cable (special cable used to power on in bootloader mode), you can revert to a custom recovery and bootloader and then flash a 6.3.2 ROM. Problem then is avoiding another OTA.

Same problem
I have the same issues @sd_shadow . My Twrp version is v2.8.1.0 . Bootloader version is v2.05. PC version is 8.1.
Also, the device manager on the PC labels the Kindle when mounted as 'Amazon Otterx'. I followed the steps up till wiping partitions in recovery. But when it comes to pushing cm or gapps, I am unable to do it.
Thanks in advance.
Try Flashing 2.7.1.0 twrp in bootloader

Convert my Kindle Fire Gen 1 to a android tablet w/google play?

I recently unrooted my Gen.1 and got it up to date, then of course I came across a deal on a Fire HD. Now that the HD fills my amazon needs I would like to just convert my old Gen.1 to a android device. Is there a current working ROM with an idiots guide on installing??
EDIT: I went ahead and rooted it, so it does now have twrp. But everything else is a little Greek to me.
Well I spent last night and this morning reading and attempting to install a ROM: SlimKat (unoffical) for the OtterX, no luck. Looks like a lot is out of date (dead links) and assumes I know what I'm doing. I really don't know what "system" I have and such. I did root my kindle and used adb last night but this morning when I attempted to install OtterX ROM/TWRP/Bootloader access denied.
My end goal is to run one program (DashMeterPro for iRacing) from google play on my kindle, that's all it will be used for. So if there is a easier way to accomplish this just let me know.
I really don't know where to start now.... My Kindle has 6.3.4 software, rooted with TWRP 2.2.2.1 installed.
