So, I flashed a new kernel and I am unable to enter recovery. I can enter download mode just fine. The problem is that I have never had this phone plugged into a computer before because the charger was not working... I had hotwired an old broken phone to charge the battery so as not to damage this phone.
I'm pretty handy with a soldering iron and happened to have some junk phones laying around. Well, I managed to replace the charger port and it seems to be working fine. No celebration just yet...
The computer recognizes that I am plugging a device into it.... However, the drivers for the phone do not seem to be loading properly because it always shows up as some form of generic usb device.
I have tried using the samsung drivers. I reboot and all that. But it still says that it is just a usb hub device or something of that nature.
My question... What must I do to get Odin or Heimdall to recognize this device?
Is this impossible?
Uninstall old samsung drivers and uninstall Kies.
Reboot your PC
Download Odin 3.09 here, Kudo's to rwilco12 for mirror.
Download Samsung Drivers here v1.3.2360.0.exe, Kudo's again to rwilco12 for mirror, and Samsung for the drivers.
x Have your device waiting in Download Mode. ( Unplugged )
x Install the Samsung drivers ( No need for PC reboot, make sure your device is disconnected )
x Once driver installation finishes, you then open Odin, plug your device in. ( Optimal to use rear USB Ports )
xx Let PC read andinstall your device, wait for completion. ( Or Drivers have finished setting up )
x Make sure there's a blue box up top giving you a reading of [COM:##]
x Load in the .tar restore file into the " AP " Slot. ( Recommended to restore back to jelly bean GB27, Sprint )
xx Select Start, wait for it to finish.
xxx Once Box up top highlights Green with a reading of "PASS" unplug the device and exit odin.
It'll take time for the device to settle in so give it 5 minutes tops once your on Welcome Start screen.

When I try to flash a new ROM using the Mirage updater, after I connect the phone to the usb cable, Mirage show me the message " PDA Device not found". I have installed all samsung modem drivers, i have no firewall or antivirus program and still does not work to flash a new ROM. This behaviour appeared after I flashed the i780_DXHC4_Rev12 ROM. If anybody had this problem, please advice me what to do next. thanks
no experts here?
no this happen. Are you using XP?
First and only time when I succeded to flash the ROM (DXHC4 version), it was on win2k3 standard..Since then, I have tried to flash the ROM on various OS ( vista, xp, win2k3, win2k8..) with the same result each time: "PDA Device not found"...
Make sure to connect the phone to the USB cable when the phone is completely OFF. (take out battery and put it back in)
with the turned out phone connected to the cable, press DETECT,
and only then power up your phone.
I know some instructions tell you to go into bootloader mode, but I found that this is enough to successfully flash my device.
Make sure you run on XP and not on Vista.
Hope this helps.
thank you for your advice..unfortunately, it does not work also..after I press Detect and turn on the phone, Mirage send me the same message: "PDA Device not found"...if you can help me with other instructions, i would appreciate

Does your device succeed in connecting to the computer using ActiveSync?
Try disabling ActiveSync USB connection or altogether.
If you only want to install the PDA part try removing the USB modem drivers,
you don't need them for PDA only.
Try a different USB port maybe, Or maybe another cable.
I'm at a loss here...
Hi on this forum too!
You need to already have an active activesync relationship with the device.
I can make file transfer and PC sync with the phone.
I tried every USB port to flash the phone. But nothing works, only 'PDA Device not found' message. I think there is no solution for this problem...

u have to load the modem driver which is for i600... i had the same issue but as soon as u load the modem driver it works fine..
and u have to take out the batt and put back the batt then hold enter and Fn button while u press the power button.. and hold till the device is booted in emergency mode... then connect your USB cable..
nothing works...
Try to update your usb drivers...
gOOndu is right you must have the correct USB driver to recognize your phone. This is not the modem driver. You can test this by disabling Active sync USB connections and plugin your phone. If it has the right driver it should state hardware found (name of your device) and then hardware installed and ready for use. If you get a hardware not recognized then the driver is not correct.
Hope this helps you.
The problem is not with the OS drivers, which recognizes my hardware device. Also, I am able to make transfers from the device to the desktop and viceversa. The problem is with the Mirrage Updater, after I press Detect and plug in the device, it can not see my pda anymore ( PDA Device not found message). The only time when I was able to flash my device ( with Mirrage) was when I upgraded to DXHC4 version. Since then, Mirrage can not find my pda anymore, altough I use the same (operating) system as when I succesfully flashed DXHC4...

Hi guys,
I am trying to flash a ROM following the steps in the first post of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=388067 . I tried on Windows XP, Vista, 7 without any positive results. I installed the Samsung i600 drivers, started mirage, loaded the bin file in the PDA section, pressed detect, started the device using Fn+Enter+ON key, but mirage kept saying "PDA device not found". I tried the above steps in different orders,no luck whatsoever. I have the following 2 questions:
1. booting the phone in DETECT mode means that you get the message "Emergency mode - You must push Detect BUtton of the download application befor you connect the usb port".
2. Do you have another STEP-BY-STEP guide on how to do this? Or is there another tool besides Mirage (which in my opinion is quite old)?
Thanks a million.
Which USB connection do you use? Front panel? Use one which is connected directly to the mainboard (on the back).
There is an i780 flashing guide available. I cannot find (or post) the direct link but it acknowledges this original post.
I spent several hours at the weekend trying to find a way of flashing my phone including installing virtual PC, etc, etc.
Eventually I found this to my relief and it worked for me in Win7:

I too am having real trouble in getting Mirage to detect my Phone in Emergency Mode!
Windows Mobile device center connects fine but that's all,

i600 drivers?
In device manager/Mobile devices it says Samsung MITs USB Sync
Could someone plz post i600 drivers that have been used successfully in ROM flashing the i780
Thanks
Does anyone know why a win xp computer would recognize the debugging mode, I'm rooted and the one click root worked fine, but not recognize my phone when in download mode? I have the drivers installed and java sdk installed. Every time I go to download mode and plug in I get a pop up (on computer) that my device is malfunctioning and the device manager says unknown device.
I know it's not the cables because I used my brothers laptop to flash eb13 from the froyo install tool before installing syndicate. But three computers including mine have failed with this same message.
I'm confused why this one lowly laptop that is nothing special worked fine and my computer along with the other 2 give me this "usb device malfunction try connecting device again, if fails replace device". Not an exact quote.
It's a long drive to my brothers, and I would like to use odin with out having to wait a couple days til I can drive out their. It's been putting a cramp in my rom flashing mojo. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have done a bit of searching and haven't found a solution yet, among,
Trying different usb cables
Every usb port tried
Have it in download mode and plugged in while booting computer, (doesn't
Give message just doesn't connect. Then unplug replug gives message.)
Every combo of debug, unknown source on/off
Java sdk installed
Try downloading the XP drivers from Samsung and installing them fresh. I had a similiar problem. My computer took almost 10 minutes to connect all drivers the first time with new drivers. Then Odin worked fine after that.
BONSAI 4 and loving it!
Hi, I have a Samsung Galaxy Young S6310N - a flash CWM went wrong and now the screen is totally blank, no activity externally.
However if i plug it into the PC then it will install the Samsung
CDMA
Composite usb driver
Modem etc
Odin can see a com port on 1st try just not the correct one, if i unplug and replug it picks up two, the correct one and one port next to it (i.e correct was 10 so Odin loads 10 and 11)
Followed loads of guides (run as admin, try XP, make sure kies not running in task manager) but Odin will not load any firmware and just hangs at setup connection (firmware from relaiable source)
Antivirus off, firewall off, loading ODIN before phone plugged in.
Tried the button combo's
Clean install of Win 7
Damn phone, what am I doing wrong?
Firmware file is a one package type, tried other varients of ODIN.
I must be missing something, phone is loading drivers in windows so i'm hoping all is not lost
I put the note 8 in recovery mode, plug it into the laptop and Odin (3.09 and 3.07) cant see it...
If I plug it in while that note is booted up into android, Odin will see it... but obviously i cant flash stock 4.4.2 on it when its booted up.
Any suggestions?

Assuming you are not rooted and are not planning to root. Is this correct?
Do you have the Samsung Note 8 drivers installed on the PC? Are you following the steps listed HERE?

Yeah, not rooted, not looking to root.
I get as far as step 7 and the part where it says " Odin should show a yellow COM port in the second column. If you do not see a yellow COM port, you may need to run the Odin One-Click as Administrator and/or unplug/plugin the USB cable after starting Odin One-Click. "
I dont get *anything* in the COM port.
Also I've tried I watching the Device manager as i plug the tablet in and there is no change.
Its like the device isnt being detected.
BUT
If I plug the device in when the tablet is started normally the device *IS* detected, (and Odin can see the COM port)

What version of Windows are you running? It is best to use a PC with Windows 7 if possible because Win 8 is harder to get working with Odin.
Couple things you can try.....
- Try different USB port and USB cable (this is probably obvious and most likely you have done already)
- Make sure you are plugged directly into the PC and not a USB hub.
- While Odin is up boot the phone multiple times into download mode and see if Odin will find it. Sometimes it takes 3 or more times.
- Uninstall the Samsung drivers on the PC, reboot, and re-install.
- Try a different PC if you have that ability. Preferably one running Windows 7.
If all else fails, might be able to get Heimdall to work: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755265
Not sure if it is confirmed working on the Note 8 so might have to research it a bit before trying.

From what I have seen posted in XDA Heimdall does work on the Note 8.

I just want to check if you know the difference between recovery mode and download mode. You mentioned in your question that you booted to recovery mode. If you are planning to flash software using Odin you should boot to download mode instead.
- Volume Down, Home and Power buttons boot to download mode as mentioned in instructions linked by CCallahan
- Volume Up, Home and Power buttons boot to recovery mode

yeah sorry, bad use of words.. it was download mode. Recovery mode gives you format etc options.
Will try heimdal tonight, failing that i'll have to try and dig up a win7 machine :-/
I used odin on windows 8.1 without any problems.

Hopefully I can get some help here. I've tried everything. Specs: Galaxy Note 2 SPH-L900 Sprint phone
Flashed CF auto root a while back and a custom ROM. That's it. And even when the phone was working, the drivers just don't work right with this particular phone. So.... before you ask, here's what I know. I've tried everything listed here:
** IMPORTANT NOTE: KIES DOESN'T READ DEVICE AFTER FLASHING CUSTOM FIRMWARE VIA ODIN **
1. Use Windows 7, Install all windows updates.
2. Unplug all usb devices except mouse and keyboard, unplug device, Uninstall drivers, restart computer.
3. Install the correct drivers for the device from Samsung site "USB drivers for mobile phones v1.5.45.00"
4. (Device still unplugged) Open ODIN V3 1.85, restart into download mode (power, home, volume down, then volume up), PLUG IN. Still not recognizing, Take out battery, put in battery. Nothing? take out battery still plugged in, restart in download mode, put in battery. Tried everything.
5. Use a USB 2.0 port (not 3.0), try different ports in case a port is defective.
6. Change the cable to official samsung cable, try different cables in case one is inferior quality or defective,
7. Unplug device, Uninstall drivers, restart computer, install Kies or Kies 3 - kies NOT detecting phone at all. Keep connected. Under Tools, Reinstall Device Driver.
IMPORTANT NOTE: KIES DOES NOT RECOGNIZE DEVICES WITH CUSTOM FIRMWARE AFTER FLASHING!!!
8. REPEAT STEP 2, then run ODIN V3 1.85 with admin rights, PLUG IT IN, if it doesn't read it,
leave it plugged in, unplug the battery, put the battery back in, ODIN should read it. Try different versions of Odin to make sure.
9. Download Root Genius and see if that works.
I've also considered this, but my computer sees that I'm plugging something in, but it won't load the correct drivers.
I manually install and find the correct drivers in DEVICE MANAGER and it still malfunctions.
**10. Hardware: USB Connection on phone could be faulty. Try fixing/replacing the usb terminal on phone.
My phone went into a soft brick because superSU play store app kept telling me to update the SuperSU binary and when I clicked "update superSU binary" in the app, BOOT LOOP CITTY and i haven't fixed it since.
I'm so tired. Been at this for 3-4 days. Can I please get some help? Thanks
