I'm having problems with my Moto 360 when it doesn't vibrate when the phone is set on Vibrate mode. If the phone is on ringer/silent, the Moto 360 will vibrate. Not sure if it's a setting I'm missing but I prefer to have my phone on vibrate and as insurance if I missed an SMS, the Moto 360 will vibrate on the wrist. BTW I'm using a Galaxy Note 4 (T-mobile)

From what I've read, having the phone in silent/vibrate mode turns off notifications to the watch. Hopefully they will fix that in the future.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not having problem receiving the notification but problems with the vibrate function when I get an SMS (only on vibrate mode). I've been reading and it seems to be a problem with Samsung stock messenger or stock messenger in general. The only work around is using hangout; however, I prefer the stock because I can customize the chat bubbles.

You're right, vibration doesn't work with the stock Messages app. It does work with most other messaging apps though, so try Hangouts, Messenger, etc.

My GNex is running 4.2 now, and I've noticed that when the phone is on silent, the phone vibrates when new gmail messages come in. If I check the settings, it specifically says "Never" under vibrate settings.
Has Google changed Gmail's vibrate behavior in 4.2 so that Never actually means Sometimes?
Can anyone confirm?
I hope this gets fixed!

Yes, I have the same issue, for both Gmail and Calendar
It vibrates in ALL notifications. Someone knows how to disable it?
Regards!
Just a hunch, but I tried it and it worked. If you don't care about not having any notification for gmail (sound or vibrate) then set the notification sound to silent and vibrate never. Unfortunately you won't get sound if you want that, but at least it's not vibrating now.

I want to keep the vibration on for stuff like text messages, just not email. When I'm at work I can read my email on my computer, so I turn my phone to vibrate so that it's not beeping all day long. With 4.2, I've replaced beeping with vibrating. It's very annoying.
Google, never means NEVER!

This works for gmail, but not the email app that I use for my work email.

I'm having the same issue, and it's very annoying. I want to keep the image in the notification bar, but I don't want it to vibrate - like I had before the 4.2 update. I even tried toggling the notifications off and on and toggling between "only on silent" and "Never," but it continues to vibrate. I only want my phone to vibrate for text messages/google voice messages.
There is at least one bug ticket raised for this.

Star it to get it some attention.
Possible solution
Possible solution, for those of you who usually only run between sound and vibrate mode on your phone. Just go into the gmail settings and toggle the vibrate to "only in silent mode" you won't get a vibrating notification...
That's what I just set mine to do.

This didn't work for me. Always vibrates when in vibrate mode no matter what I have set. Funny enough, when I set the phone to silent mode there is no vibration even when it is set to 'Only in silent mode'.
I just hope this is identified as a bug and wasn't done on purpose. It's going to be an annoying few weeks while I wait for another OTA.
Any update to this? I'm having the same problem with text messages vibrating.
Same issue here. I have a custom 4.2 ROM flashed with this problem. I even tried reverting back to stock and reflashing. That did not solve the problem.
Same problem for me with official 4.2 OTA update, on a yakju galaxy nexus
That's no GMail bug, unfortunately it's a new "feature" introduced in Android 4.2. If you ar looking at the commits in AOSP, you can see it is a new system wide sound-to-vibrate conversion feature.
If you change the phone to vibrate mode, all applications which are playing notification sounds are then vibrating. Genious!
It should be possible to deactivate vibration therefor if you disable the notification sound in the specific app.

I want to punch whoever made this "feature" in the face!
I just got my Note 3 today and noticed that apps with vibration off still vibrate when notifications are received. Anyone else have this issue?
For those who might not understand what I mean:
When the phone is on vibrate mode, only the apps with vibration on are supposed to vibrate. However, the apps with vibration off are also vibrating.
I don't like this
Try to disable the vibration on the app itself and see what happens.
for me viber is doing this, even when set to silent I still have phone vibrate when receving messeges on viber and yes vibration is ticked off. I only fixed this via app info window>untick show notifications
Note 3 vibrate
I am having this same problem as well with my note 3. I have both my gmail and outlook app set not to vibrate, but when I put my phone on vibrate so it doesn't ring while I am at work my phone will still vibrate every time I get e-mail despite having vibrate un-check in both apps. It works fine when I have my volume on.
Now I can't turn vibrate off for notifications because I still need to be notified that I get text when my phone is on vibrate.
If anybody figures this out please do tell
Thanks,
An update on what I've discovered:
I took a guess that this might not be a bug but a feature (a really stupid one) and installed Android 4.3 leak on my old Note 2, which previously was on 4.1.2 and did not have this issue. On 4.3, it brings up this problem. Apps with vibration off will vibrate in vibrate mode. So I guess it is normal.. can anyone else with Android 4.3 on other devices confirm?
ALSO: The stock apps Email and Calendar do not do this. If vibrate is off, and the phone is in vibrate mode, then notifications from these apps won't vibrate.
I've seen a few posts about this, but never a definitive statement, and it's such odd default behavior that I want to check I have this right:
- If you have app notifications on the _phone_ on silent or vibrate, then the _watch_ notification will be silent; if it makes a noise on your phone then it will vibrate
- There is no way to override/workaround this on a per app basis
?
This is really annoying if true since I have most of my apps set to vibrate only, and I therefore want them to vibrate on my watch..

I don't experience this at all. No matter if my phone is on silent vibrate or ringer, the 360 still gets the notification. [VZW HTC M8 Stock.]

Do your notifications vibrate on your watch even when not making a sound on your phone?
Mine definitely don't (s3), but if I turn on sound on eg gmail, I'll then get watch vibrations

This is how mine works as well, I am using a Moto X running 4.4.4.
Hmm so strange ... It's not like there are billions of settings I could have misconfigured. And this is with gmail (and everything else), so not obscure apps
Fwiw I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...tion-watch-t2887718/post55687468#post55687468 with a potential solution.
Can someone test this for me. If I have my note 4 with the sound on or in silent mode I get the moto 360 to vibrate showing a new text. But If the note 4 is on vibrate, the moto 360 will not vibrate to let me know I have a new text via the stock messaging app. So frustrating! Please help
It is not dependant on the "Global" mode...it is dependant on the "In-App" setting.
i.e. Whatsapp: You need to set it to "vibration - on" in the app settings, so even if your "global" setting is total silence, you will still get vibrations on the watch.
Hope it makes sense.
Interesting, I have all vibration disabled on my Note 4, both globally and in-app, and I receive vibrations on the watch just fine when the phone is set to Silent.
I am talking about stock messaging app. Yes, you're getting notifcations when the phone is on silent or if the volume is on. But, if you put your phone to vibrate you will not get the moto 360 to vibrate from a new text message via the stock app
Thanks zhou for the response but I definitely have vibration on in the stock messaging app.

I have the same problem with the stock msg app on my Note 3 on VZW. I ended up using a 3rd party msg app and now it vibes and notifies on all three positions silent, sound, and vibe.
I have the Note 2 and the same thing happens when using stock messaging...Moto 360 will vibrate when phone is set to normal or silent, but when the phone is on vibrate the Moto 360 will get the notification but not vibrate. The stock messaging app is set to vibrate in settings.
I believe this is a problem for everybody but they just have not realized it yet

It's not a problem for everyone. It's a Samsung problem. Use a different SMS app.

I have the same problem with my Galaxy S5 and the stock messenger. My solution was switching to hangouts for sms.

Don't think everyone. I started a thread on AC and someone with a Note 3 claimed that it worked in all three positions. Silent, sound, and silent..

I am having the same problem, but with facebook and facebook messenger. Both have notification+vibration on.
My problem is that it doesnt even work on loud ringer

Hi
About a month ago my phone stopped vibrating when I received SMS or whatsapp messages if my Ringer was set to vibrate.
Strangely, the option for notification vibrate becomes disabled or "greyed out" if i switch the ringer to 'vibrate'. (see pics)
It does vibrate just fine for a call- just not for notifications.
I am stock rooted, I was on 5.1.1 then updated to Marshmallow 6.0.1 -- no difference.
I've played with all the settings I can think of, with no help.
Any thoughts?
Apparently I'm not the only one, as I found this guy asking the identical question with a S6 edge on a different forum.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...ion-vibrate-disabled-if-ringtone-vibrate.html
Nobody?
It's a strange glitch- no one has experienced a phone that vibrates fine for a call, but doesn't give the option to vibrate for a notification or text?
Some notification vibration settings must be set for that app. The screenshot you posted shows that notifications are set to vibrate.

Ah! Thank you so much for someone finally replying.
I must not have explained the screenshots correctly--- In the second screenshot-- I have set my RINGER to vibrate (as in for the phone).... and magically ALL NOTIFICATIONS GO SILENT (for every app and including SMS) -- not even vibrate--- and I lose the ability to change them to vibrate.
It used to be simple. Ringer set to ring, Notifications (whether for SMS, or any other app like calendar or whatsapp) would also ring. Ringer set to vibrate- notifications (again for all apps and SMS) would also go to vibrate.
Importantly I also would have control of the relative volumes/vibrations in both settings.
Now I only have that ability when the ringer is set to ring. If i set the ringer to VIBRATE--- then the notifications get totally silent-- -and are 'greyed out' so I can't change them.
It's weird.
Maybe I can't seem to explain it clearly, but I'm trying.
Thanks for the reply.
I am having the exact same issue. Have you ever figured out a solution?

Sorry for the delay.
The answer is .... sort of....
The graying out issue never resolved, but magically it DOES vibrate now with messages. Perhaps that started to work with one of the updates I've installed.
Still seems bizarre to me, but as long as the functionality returned... i guess that is good enough.
