The update to 4.1.2 on the AT&T S3 was released a few days ago and I am still unable to do the udpate. I have tried deleting the data from Google Services Framework, I have tried on Wifi or the data network, I've tried Kies (not on Kies yet apparently), I've done the clock trick, I've tried every conceivable idea I could think of to get the OTA update, but it just wont show up. I press software update and it checks and after a few minutes it says "Software Update Interrupted." I am rooted and on the stock ROM with stock recovery. Only superuser. Somebody please help! Thanks, Loren

I'm having the same problem!
Just use the update.zip in the general section. It works with stock recovery but you'll need an external SD.

Ok thanks. Will I keep my data or will it be like an Odin flash? I would like to not have to backup stuff...
It will wipe your apps and your internal sd card.

So there is no way to update without wiping my data other than the official OTA update which for some reason won't show up?
The ota can take some time to get to everyone. I tried going the official route, but it's a 200mb download and it seemed to be downloading on dial up speed. The update servers were def getting hammered. Just be patient. If you don't want to be patient, pull everything off your internal card, backup your apps on an external sd, use the update.zip method. Those are your choices.

So can you provide a link? I can't find it. The link here I keep finding on the internet says its for GS3, but then when you go to the link, it says GS4 on the top left corner: file ID 23060877489997375 on android file host (It wont let me post links here to show you)
I even called AT&T about this and they said my phone is an Unlocked version. .I'm like what are you talking about I have gotten OTA's before.. then I remembered I had to send it to Samsung for warranty repair.
A link to the STOCK I747UCDMG2 would be awesome. Even better if it didn't wipe the device, but no big deal I can just root and use titanium. Should I unroot before running the update? (And the problem started before I rooted.. It keeps saying software update interrupted,)
Thanks
If you just got to have the update.

Like mentioned, it's going to wipe the phone, so backup anything need first; pictures, apps, messages, etc.

s3 4.1.2 update interrupted. shows 4.1.1 version up to date ever since
So I tried to update my at&t s3 to 4.1.2 last week when I realized it was available, everything seemed to go well until it did not stop downloading the update when it reached the total file size, I let it keep going and do its thing and finally it stopped at 367 MB instead of 229 that it showed. Then it froze and showed that the update was interrupted, and ever since, when I tried to update it again, it tells me that my current version is up to date, it's been over a week and nothing has changed. I looked all over online and no one has really had this problem but me. Then I came across this site, it may be wishful thinking, but if anyone has any idea on what I can do to get this update, I'd be forever grateful! P.S. I have done factory reset and still with no luck..
If you are stock and have twrp flash the update zip in the original post here, then flash the other zip several pages in to update the bootloader and modem. I did it without wiping data and everything was just like before except I now have the update. Didn't lose any of my settings, apps, etc...I don't usually recommend a dirty flash but I have had zero problems with either my daughter's or my phone since doing this. Even my root was retained. Here's the link:

Oh, I also should mention that I've been running this way since that post first came out which has been a while. Plenty of time for side effects to show.

Just noticed they've put the other post with the bootloader update in the original post as well, so now it's all easily accessable on the first page.
Same issue. Cant update. Keeps saying update was interupted.
I'm not very good at Android technical stuffs as I'm new to it but learned decent basic knowledge before doing any rooting and flashing stuffs.
To start off, I installed ARHD 22.1 back in December and then upgraded to ARHD 30.1 just yesterday, successfully. I'm S-On, using Taiwan HTC One M8x 2.5 ghz unlocked.
I then decided to add the eXtremeBeats audio mod which is compatible to Android L. I followed the instruction there ( DL File, put to phone, flash via recovery, wipe cache & dalvik, reboot ). At the reboot the problem starts, after optimizing the apps, and then it says "starting apps" there it got stuck, I waited it for an hour and a half and decided to force shut my phone. So after turning it on again, it's now stuck on the HTC logo only. I decided to re-install ARHD 30.1 at that same day, successfully installed but when the phone starts, it says "Unfortunately, HTC Dot View has stopped" then followed by "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped". So yeah, I don't have any on screen bottons on my phone, no slide down notification, but can access apps ( no going back though ). I tried to wipe cache & dalvik again, tried re-installing the ARHD 30.1 again for the 3rd time, no luck.
I searched my problem at Google but mine's different. Their "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped" is like soldemly happening in the middle of phone usage and returning back to normal after some seconds, mine gets that problem at the very start up and the UI doesn't return.
What did I do wrong? What must I do? Thanks in advance!
Edit: I noticed that my OS is missing where it's supposed to say something like 3.28.xxx.x. I wiped everything including system at the time I install ARHD 30.1 the second time (where the problem occurred). I think this might have caused the problem? How do I fix this?

Yes, I'm currently trying to figure out on how to do this. I'm having problems.
I have a Nandroid backup file in my PC. But I don't know how to push it to /sdcard/TWRP/BACKUP/. I tried the pushing file tutorial via mini-sdk and some cmd commands from ARHD's website tutorial, it can push to /data but I can't get it to work on /sdcard ( I tried to >mount /sdcard == gives error ). The other way I know is to transfer the Nandroid backup file from PC to phone normally via the file copy pasting, my computer can recognize my phone having the ARHD 30.1 (w/ UI problem) installed and USB Debugging on, though I can't access the storage or transfer files.
How do I push my Nandroid backup file from PC to /sdcard/TWRP/BACKUP ... ? Any advice please? I think this will solve my issue.

Yes, the syntax for adb pushing a TWRP backup to internal storage can be challenging. If you have a removable SD available, that might be easier, change the save location in TWRP to that. Then make a "mock" backup, purely so that the TWRP folder is created on the SD card. Then either copy/paste your nandroid to the SD with your phone connected to your PC; or use a card reader connected to your PC.
Alternately, you can try to mount the internal storage in TWRP instead of in the OS. That might work better.

Amazing! I understand the first method, but the alternative... can you explain a bit further? As I tap the Mount button at the main page of TWRP, it says "Select Partitions to Mount:", having System, Cache, Data, Micro SDCard, USB-OTG as options. And then nothing else to do, I see no any other button. Clearly I didn't understood the practice, and I google "How to mount internal storage to TWRP" but somehow didn't get any good result. Could you please tell me how it is done or link me to a guide?
Edit: The first method is fine, though I'd like to know how the second one is done. I apologize if you find me cumbersome but I'd like to learn, might come in handy at some peculiar point. I'm curious as what you said that that might work better but I can't perform the latter, it got me really cheesy
EDIT 2: I managed to do the BACKUP. But now it got stuck to BOOT LOOP. I tried to wipe data, cache, and dalvik... but still it BOOT LOOP. What now?
I'm having a similar problem, did you manage to fix it? How? Thanks.
NOT flashing the correct firmware / Kernel is a most frequent cause of SystemUI crashes. Flash the correct firmware/Kernel to correct this.
wth is wrong with my backup?
alright is there a specific solution to this? me and my mother both have the same phone so i took the lollipop backup from her, renamed it like mines and restored it. once i finish the restore and boot up im greeted with ''unfortunately system ui has stopped''. what gets me crazy and confused is that it works perfectly sometimes when i erase the system and everything then when i restore the same lollipop backup and here we go again, system ui has freakin' stopped! this doesnt happen to any other kitkat backup only lollipop.
i have twrp recovery 2.8.02
my hboot is 2.49
i am currently having s on.
i am sick of htc and their stupid s off and on thing like why should we pay 25 dollars i mean android hacking should be open source right? convert 25 $ to riyals and i cold live for a week, happily!!!

Hboot should be 3.19 in Lollipop. 2.49 is Android4.4.2 KitKat
Also, update your recovery. 2.8.7.0 works wonderfully.
Bottom line is you need to update your firmware before you try to restore a Lollipop backup.

Why bash on HTC and sunshine s-off ? You unlocked it, flashed twrp.....that's something HTC didn't nor the guys from sunshine. And you don't need s-off, it's not mandatory but it can make it easier.
I would kindly suggest to drop the ignorant attitude towards the wrong people and focus on the problem you have to solve.

That is not a valid hboot number for the M8 (which this forum section is specific to). I think you have a One Max.
But as mentioned, you can't just migrate a nandroid from one phone to another. The firmware needs to match also. Running a LP nandroid with KK firmware is going to result in issues.

Agreed. S-off isn't the problem, and not needed to remedy the previous user's issue. Main problem is lack of research before messing with the phone.
found an awesome solution. i used to have a nandroid of android 4.4.3, so i restored it, didn't do any kind of wipe and then restored my moms nandroid backup of android L. its working great! i have the htc one m7 dual sim m7_cdug 802w

First off, sorry if this was answered before, I searched but there is little info to be found about the D852 in particular.
The phone is from Fido, which should be the same as Rogers since they are the same company. The original firmware was 20c, Lollipop 5.0.1. The phone is currently running TWRP 2.8.7.0 and CM12.1 nightlies.
The main issue is when I power off either in System or Recovery, SOMETIMES it will not power back on without pulling the battery. The odd thing is the randomness of it, I cannot figure out a pattern.
I also tried the CM recovery that ships with the CM nightlies. I tried several revisions of those CM nightlies. I tried several TWRP revisions as well. Same power off/on issue, which brings be to believe this may be a bootloader issue.
Any ideas what I should try next? I could try reflashing the original software that came with the phone, but I'd like that to be a last resort. I spent far too much time rooting, flashing TWRP and CM to revert.
Thanks for reading.
Mine did this too (D852G from videotron) You should try to flash the bootstack, that's what I did and now it boot everytime!

Thanks. I will look into it. A silly question, but do I have the D852 or D852g? My phone reports D852, so that is the TWRP I flashed Also, which bootstack do you recommend?
The CM12.1 very usable, at least over the past two days since I got the phone. No system crashes yet, although Firefox did restart once. I also use Open Camera over the stock CM one, and there is a long delay before the first picture is taken. There also seems to be a microphone issue, one person complained when I held the phone too far from my face. I am spoiled, coming from a Nexus 4 which has the best support possible. And even it had some quirks.

1- I don't use cm12.1, I had exodus rom for a month and its amazing (I prefer AOSP based rom), but it came back to the stock because of the vibration strength (feels weak on the custom rom not based on stock)
2- A bootstack is multiple file that tell your device how to boot

D852G is only with videotron and a bootstack is not a rom! Its multiple file that tell your device how to boot.
I'll try to find one for D852, I will post here when I find it.
So I did some looking around and I cannot figure out which boot loader to flash. I don't want to risk trying out untested bootloaders as they may revert the vulnerability or brick the phone.
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks.
Bumping for lack of answers.
So far CM12.1 has been very decent. I'd like to use a different camera app, and cool reader is crashing very often, but overall I am sticking with it. No overheating, and great battery life.

were you able to find a solution to the booting issue?
Not yet. I have not seen any new releases for the d852, at least not in a few quick searches. I just don't want to take risks in bricking a working device. At the moment I am simply never powering down my G3. Reboot straight into recovery, then back into system once the CM update flashes.
Lesson learned, I will never buy a non-nexus device, or at least a device that is not factory unlockable. Jumping through hoops to get access to the hardware you own is a silly endeavour.
I tried the following and it seems working:
1. My goal is to be able to flash Lollipop modem, once I flash Dene's modem, I got into battery pull problem.
2. I started looking at boot stack.
3. I noticed Dene's modem extraction includes 2 extra files: rpm.img and tz.img.
4. I removed them from Dene's zip and flash the modem file only.
5. I was on KK modem on AOSP rom, lollipop modem working.
Not sure will it work on Dene's rom, need to try.

Unfortunately I did that a couple times using Autorec, Imageprep, none worked. Are you using any one of the above to flash TWRP?
I don't recall how I got TWRP installed. I did a flash upgrade to v2.8.7.0 though. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
Soft bricked G3 with a lost IMEI number
Hey guys I have 2 major problems for my phone.
1) I was trying to flash Marshmallow 30B stock ROM yesterday, so I was told to install a few files. New system file, new modem file, new boot file and SuperSu BETA v2.65. I tried and tried many times yesterday, but unfortunately it didn't work. So I was like "okay fine, let's just use some custom ROM from XDA."
I chose the XenonHD 6.0 Experimental ROM and copied into my internal storage along with my gapps they recommended. I booted up into recovery mode, backed up the installed ROM and factory reset it. I went to flash my ROM first then my gapps. But then halfway flashing the log display showed this:
HTML:
unmount /system failed: No such volume found
updating partition details...
Then it ended saying it was successful and it continued on flashing the gapps and so on. Surprisingly no "unmount /data failed or anything, just the system that is acting up. After finishing flashing all the file, I went to reboot my device. At first it showed the LG logo as usual, then the screen became black. I went online and search all about this unmount system problem, and all they say is that I have to wait for about 10 minutes then the Android logo will come on. So I waited for 15 minutes? (I have an iPad mini beside me counting down the minutes). I came back the whole phone is still black screen, the whole screen is turned off, not idle blank screen. I started to freak out and I took out the battery and put it back again and went into recovery mode.
2) Another problem is this IMEI number loss, I don't know how I got lost this information. I'm not sure if my EFS file is corrupted or not. I realized it because I was receiving no cell signal while I was in the city central. Unfortunately I don't have a backup of the EFS file ( I don't even know if I have it ).
Please help me solve these problems. It's happened for a few days now.

i don't claim to be an expert in this field, but there are two things that come to mind that you could look into, maybe ask more experienced ppl on those threads.
it sounds like some sort of partition problem, or corrupt data, maybe you flashed a bad file or a file for another rom.
you could try manually formatting drives in command terminal without mounting them
also unbricking might work too but if your hopes and dreams are in this phone then talk to someone who knows more than me because i wouldn't bet my bankroll on these just suggestions for you to look into. I feel like the guys that write those guides probably can answer your question better and with more confidence.

This was the ROM I initially wanted to flash. I think something went at flashing the Modem causing my phone to have this unmount /system problem.
Hello. I have recently switched from Huawei to Samsung and I would like to know how I can root my Samsung A5 2017 on android nougat. I have to mention that I already flashed cwm. Oh and I'd want to root it without wiping data. Hope someone helps me!
There are already many rooting guides in the guides section. Please ask before posting!!!

Yes I know but I don't want to wipe data and use twrp, I want to root it without wiping anything. And yes, I know I can make a backup.
This no longer works, as of sometime this December. Can't even install magisk anymore. Something they changed in a 'stealth' update(I had ota disabled, and always reviewed all updates before I installed, but made the mistake of 'accepting' an update from magisk that caused a bootloop, after completely redoing phone, it now boots with a strange 'unlocking' animation, and I'm unable to alter anything anymore.
We will have to wait for someone who 'knows better' also faces this issue. (Can't even install TWRP anymore btw)

You just have to downgrade your rom. I've had encountered the same problem. Downgrading your bootloader will do just fine then you can do your mods without any problem.
Downgrade how lower??
I have a5 2017 and rooted without big issues.I got the file from youtube. But for data u should backup.
Hi all
just an information
if i install the Recovery TPRW and i have to make the 2 step ,
Turn the phone off
Hold power + home button and volume up to enter the recovery .
Dont swipe to allow modifcations!! use read only!
Flash Supersu and after that reboot to android.
it will flash/erase the internal data?
i know that would be always better to make a backup but i know that i cannot backup the apps for example (and some datas on some of them)
so i am just wondering if it a mandatory step or not
i see that if i install the patch
Also download the No-verity-no-encrypt Patch made by Ashyx and put it on your sdcard ( not internal )!!
i must make a backup
maybe i can do it after the root with Titanum ? (after the root)
where i can find infos on what is the pourpose of that patch?
maybe if i install only root i don't have to erase all datas
thank you for the help
i've tried to install CWR but i could not installa supersu becouse the operation get stucked on "cwm recovery stops to creating paths"
i've read lot of posts and maybe i undestood partially the question
the latest release of samsung stock firmware (i have also android 8) have so many "security tools" this is why at begging i could not see the flashed recovery... i had to not to reboot the phone ... then i did it ...but after some reboots ..again the stock recovery (in english is rebirth again)
so all the point to "flash and reflash" also the second patch is maybe becouse of that
and this is the same reason becouse we must format all datas ?!?! it wuold be intresting if it was specified in the main post
anyway just wondering if all this is necessary for gain only root permissions ,but i think the answer is yes becouse when i try to flash supersu ..the reason that it fails is becouse of that... but i am still not sure of it.
1) in the instructions here in the post noone tells that i have to avoid to boot the phone after flashing twrp (if i reboot it i loose the flashed recovery)
2) when i try to flash supersu i receive an error on signature (maybe is the question of encypted partitions after last august samsung update)
3) should i format before tring to flash supersu?!

First of all
this is not a place to ask
Then, use Odin 3.13 to flash twrp. If you can't, wait 1 week with the phone on and try again
stop asking the same think 45 times pls
Seamless rooting of Galaxy A5 2017
Dear experts,
I need to root my Galaxy A5 2017 in such a way that the end-user does not notice any difference between how the device used to be/work before the rooting and after, meaning that no additional applications (such as SuperSU, or similar) are installed and the boot animation and the general look and feel of the device stays the exactly the same.
What procedure do you recommend to achieve this?
Thank you for your advice
