What variant do you have? It should say in the bootloader.
It will look like "a5xx"

iam on 1.6 insertcoin ROM i wanted to upgrade firmware but due to restriction of s-OFF i cant upgrade , can i get RUU file for 1.40 ? any one have it yet?

If you're not s-off you need the ruu of your current firmware version. To help you we need more information. The phone provider (international, verizon...) The firmware version you currently have, branding operator and the cid would be helpful.

MY CID IS J15 , its unlocked version bought in iraq
my current firmware is 1.32.401.15 .
( i installed this firmware its stock i flashed the ROM by OPJAIMG but cant get OTA ) .
now i flashed RUU.exe 1.32.401.17 but get error /:
Code:
ERROR [155~159]: IMAGE ERROR
One of these error messages will appear when you use the incorrect RUU to update and the image file size is larger than the Flash ROM size. In this case, download the correct RUU version and try again.
Please flash 1.32.401.8 0PJAIMG.ZIP from sd card formatted in FAT32..
Then repeatedly update all way up to 1.40.401.8

Software number: 3.33.401.6
i downloaded OTA update 5.0.2 and installed it
After that i tried to root it but the phone stopped at htc logo
The device now unlocked and software status modified

Now your device on bootloader show OS-3.33.401.6 or OS-4.30.401.15 ?
I think the OTA version is 4.30.401.15

Do you use the right TWRP recovery for Dual SIM to install SuperSU zip ?
Normal Single SIM TWRP won't work.
There is no RUU for 4.30.401.15 as at today.
What you can do is restore 3.33.401.6 backup and its stock recovery and redo OTA
But try the first option -correct TWRP

Check that thread ... see page 12 (if I'm not wrong) .. you need to read that thread because you need the TWRP recovery for Dual SIM, it's there. It's only 18 pages thread, not too many to read.
I don't have your device, so I don't have backups but I have stock recovery image in my thread linked in my signature.
fyi, latest 2.8.7 TWRP for M8 supports single and dual sim, thats what I use on mine.

Your firmware doesn't match. Find a ROM that is based off of 1.32.401.17 , get it to boot up , then go get sunshine S-off and then you can update your firmware worry free.
Edit: or find the thread on how to update firmware being S-on after you boot up a ROM that matches your current firmware

I want to update my HTC M9 to Androied Nougat.First I try with full stock RUU firmware file(RUU_HIMA_UL_N70_SENSE80_ATT_MR_NA_Gen_Unlock_4.14.617.6.exe)
But it is fail.Then I root phone.But still can't update.
Can you tel how select correct file for update & how update.(custom ROM is ok)

Firmware doesn't match. You're trying to flash 617 over a 709. You need to find the correct region. X.xx.617.x vs x.xx.709.x
You cannot update your phone if it is rooted. It must be stock unless it is s-off.

My HTC desire 816 A5_UL was rooted and had unlocked bootloader with twrp but I have relocked it, I'm on stock ROM with root and can I do an ota update.
Also if you have a link to the Australian A5_UL RUU can you post a link because I can't find it.

Soff is necessary or not to flash the stock rom because my htc 816 a5dwg is bootloader unlocked but S-on so when i try to flash stock rom its saying signature varification failed...if anyonw have any idea please help...Thank you
